I know this is off topic, but what if an undead creature has a claw, claw, bite? Would you deal 1d6 + 1CL per attack?

Well they were throwing rocks at us (which I now realize would have done nothing to us) but it felt hostile at first, so I just reacted. I swear I thought the collateral damage was the chaotic part of her alignment but she really does feel bad if innocent people are hurt. She wont seek and destroy innocent people on purpose is what I'm saying.

I do agree there could have been better communication through the DM to give a hint they were not hostile, but hey they threw rocks. Thing is how many "accidents" does it take before an alignment change is in order?

Okay my sorc is like Reese Witherspoon on Legally Blonde, like pink fireballs and a lot of oops I did it agains.

So basically in and out of character I have a hard time determining what is evil. You could say she fireballs first asks questions later. Anyways here are a couple of examples I'm not pleased with:

Room full of deadly spiders, we kill them all but I thought (in and out of character) the moving cocoons still had spiders in them, so I nuked them. Turned out to be still living innocents, I felt bad and got scolded by the paladin. My character cared a little but not enough to hold a ceremony for them.

Next (this just happened last session) we walked through a temple full of Murlocks that were being possessed by evil brain things and seemed to come accross them often, the paladin says they are evil, so naturally when we open the door to 15 children and one adult female they started throwing rocks. Instead of thinking wait rocks, why? I fireballed the room and didnt realize until it was to late they were innocent. Oops I did it again and feel bad, but not really...

My int is 14 my cha is 24 wis is 12 alignment Chaotic/Good (or is it?)

I need advice on if me myself is just not smart enough to know the difference or should my PC know better... Halp!

I missed that, where was his eidlon?

Where were the other party members?

All we hear about is this assimar, the revenant and the wizard that orbed him out the window...

So the fighter didn't pound on it, the cleric didn't turn it, everyone just watched it crush their buddy unit he shouted "Blow me away Wizzy!"

It just seems like something more is missing?

IF he was a synthesist, doesn't it seem odd he couldnt have done more about the situation? Most of these builds are half way to the house of broken, and he couldnt get out of a grapple?

Usually, when something grapples someone in our group it just makes it an easy target for us to pound on.... would think there would have been more options here... just saying

Synthesist summoner, so he WAS the eidolon. The zen archer and ranger (dps) both got hit with her fear affect and had to bail out of the fight. The wiz is mostly crowd control and the cleric mostly support buffs. That leaves just the three. Cleric, wiz, summoner. And yes their were more options, they just chose the poopy one.

Oh, do you mean killing the player or killing the PC ? Careful here, the former might be construed as BADWRONGFUN ;-)

I do not know that anyone said that you killed the PC because you did not like the player. I stated that I believed you let the PC die because you did not like the PC.

I believe that a PC's death should be an important event and should respect the player's choice as much as possible. If only because a player spends hours (even days) of RL time creating and playing his/her PC.

Yeah I wasn't a fan of his aasimar to begin with, but it grew on me and I really enjoyed his PC in a RP sense. The overpowered part got a little frustrating for a couple of the players and myself as well. Fact is I didn't purposely do anything to take his PC out of the game.

How do you know that? I mean... besides from the POV of one of the sides of the argument?

By the rules, he is dead, but the GM will allow to revive to everybody, except him.

He was offered a raise or re-roll. He insists he is entitled to "5 more rounds of reflex saves (for orb), grapple checks, and open wings to fly" all while falling a mere 300ft. He is indeed a synthesist summoner who extremely overshadows the other players, and the game has been nothing but fun until this first death occurred. The player blames me for not spending 20 min in game looking for rules (which they did have 20 min to meta game, again more than fair on my end) instead of looking at his mechanics, numbers, and rules went with "okay wiz, throw us out the window I have a plan"

I did not kill this guy because I dont like him. He's a good person. He's just not very good at dying I guess?

When I say numerous emails, I mean like 5 50 page essay emails. He pissed of the owner of the house who has been more than generous letting us use his home, picking up this particular PC every week from the other side of town, and he thanks him with accusations of cheating and being on a power trip.

I'm sorry it went down the way it did but it was just more damaging than it was constructive.

Thanks you all for your feedback.

A couple things that cross my mind ... have your group been playing these characters for a long time? Is there some sort of expansive history with the characters? Or were they just rolled up as Epic characters a relatively short time ago? If there's a long history with the characters, I could see trying to help the fella out a bit and let a divine intervention happen, any chance any of your guys had hero points to use? If these are relatively newish characters and he just doesn't want to lose this 'awesome dude' of a character, I would probably be a bit more bullheaded about making him re-roll a new character. After all, you don't really sound like you were wanting to let that particular combo of character in the game to start with.

Lastly, while being as mature as possible, be a man! Stand behind your decisions! Explain to your players that they should strive for the same thing. Dieing isn't the end, it is simply the beginning of a new chapter.

Good Luck

Yes, I allowed a roll for a divine intervention from his god. It's not like I said their is no absolute way for you to live. I tried coming to an agreement with him but he simply wont meet me half way. Its his way or the highway and that crap wont fly just like he wont in the next game session. And no they have not been gaming for long, they were all barely lvl 6.

ciretose wrote:

If I were GM, the e-mail would go something like this.

Dude...you had the wizard throw you out of a window overlooking a 300 foot cliff while you were grappled. That was a choice you made, and a risk you decided to take. I didn't tell you to do it. In fact, you had to get other players to participate in the plan.

It isn't unfair. It is the outcome of choices. I hope you will roll a new character and keep playing, but I shouldn't have to explain to you why your character died when you asked to be thrown out of a 300 ft window.

If you are arguing about this, I can't imagine a scenario where you would think it would be "fair" for your character to die. I'm sorry you are upset, but it is over and the game is going forward at this point.

If you want to make a new character, we can talk about ways to intigrate them into the story.

That is almost exactly what I wrote lol!

Also, an Aqueous orb would make both the PC and the undead "entangled" which would add an additional -4 to dex checks and a -2 to attack rolls (which includes CMB rolls). Since these are different than the grappled minuses, they would apply when trying to get out of grapple while entangled.

(Ugly combo for escaping out of).

Also, since they are grappled by an undead and entangled in a 10' diameter sphere of water, their wings might not have helped much for slowing them down.

Excellent I forgot about the entangled condition. I knew I was missing something. So since he said he did his math wrong and would have hit the CMD of 28 right on the money, I forgot to calculate the entangle. So MY math was wrong too.

I'm guessing his plan was to escape the grapple while falling and after the aquatic orb dissapeared at 150 ft. activate his eidolon wings (he's a synthesist summoner) and fly back up.
That was a really dumb plan. If I had that plan, and it failed, I would roll a new character as quickly as possible in the hopes everyone would forget what a dumb thing I did.

While you posted this on the rules forum, I'm going to answer it with some advice.

While this player might be annoying you with his bugging, keep in mind that he didn't (as far as you told us), throw a fit or argue with you insessently at game. If you take the "You should have brought it up before the game was over" approach, you're encouraging to disrupt your game at a later date.

When I look at this, I see a greased character, in a grapple, being thrown out the window and falling a great distance into water. This character has access to something that would give him wings.

I think it would be completely reasonable for you to rule that revanent wasn't able to maintain his hold on the slipperly little bugger while falling at terminal velocity, and the PC has a change to use his wings to break some of his fall. He still hit the water extremely hard, probably passed out, but awakening on a beach in a couple hours is not beyond suspension of disbeleif. It certainly would be easier on you than justifying why a new character shows up all of a sudden next session.

If you do this, be sure to explain to the player that it was not due to his rules arguements, which ended up being unfounded. Explain that it is because you think it is reasonable and it helps the game for him to narrowly avoid death this time. Maybe offer other characters a similar get out of jail free card in the future, if it's reasonable.

All fair and well, except the get out of jail free card was eatin up when he complained when I said an Aasimar synthesist summoner might overshadow everyone and let him do it anyway.

Also would 150ft be enough time to turn 45 degrees and how much less damage would that really be?

( Actual questions last paragraph )

So I have a player in my RotR campaign that got grappled by a revenent. He failed his CMB check to escape the grapple. Wizard cast grease on him to get +10 to his CMB check and failed again. Revenent continued to deal damage to the point where he asked the wizard to cast aquitic orb and hurl them both out the window 300 ft to the crashing waves below. Both went hurling out the window and he took the 20d6 falling along with her.

Now that it is all said and done with he has sent me numerous emails complaining that he did his math wrong and wasn't denied his Dex bonus counted the CMB wrong ect ect. He is being a pain in the butt and I would normally make a more than fair call if he wasn't such a whiner and calling me unfair. So now he's claiming that he gets another 3 rounds to break the grapple on the way down 300ft to activate his wings and even out.

Any other member would have accepted an epic hero dieing in an epic way and I wouldn't have to make this decision because they would just reroll.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1:I assume falling 300 ft. would take about 5 seconds (less than a round) is it true he would get a turn every 60ft like he says?
2:Does grease apply +10 to escape artist check only or CMB to escape grapple as well?
3:Would aquatic orb wash away the grease?
4:If he said he failed but later recalled saying he would have just barely made it, would you recall it?
5: Being grappled he loses -4 to dex does that give him -2 to escape grapple?
Again my synthesist is pushing the rules to the limit. He wanted to know if he gets the + (x) bonus to his craft skill when his eidolon is on. Problem is he goes from 2 feet to four feet. So is this just my call as a gm or is there some fact i'm missing somewhere?
Thanks!
Aasimar favored class for summoner says:
Summoner: Add DR 1/evil to the summoner's eidolon. Each additional time the summoner selects this benefit, the DR/evil increases by +1/2 (maximum DR 10/evil).
So is that 1 DR every other level, max 10 DR at lvl 20?
Excellent. Thanks.
Although Lobolusk brings up a good point. The PC explained to me that summoner/eidolon share same slots and want to equip the ring giving his eidolon a +1 deflection bonus. Is this viable?
Can a Synthesist eidolon where a ring of protection +1 and gain the deflection bonus.
Can a Synthesist eidolon be healed by anything other than rejuvenate eidolon, like channel energy from the cleric?
Hello hello!
My sorc recently got bit by a spider and poisoned me for 10 int dmg. So we were able to delay the poison thx to our wonderful alchemist. But we are all low on resources.
I have a rod of well deserved rest (found in the adventure path) and when I sleep with it I get "well rested" bonus. I was just wondering if this heals any additional ability damage when we rest.
Thanks!
I think I will be over-ruling the augment on the eidlon. Most of the other rules are very clear.
However it looks like it IS possible to augment his eidlon if he casts the actual spell, "summon Eidolon"
http://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic/all-spells/s/summon-eidolon
I cast "Wall of Text"
You're all dead. Lol
Hey guys and gals,
I am a new DM, and not familiar with summoners and druids. Basically I have a PC who wants to augment summon his eidolon (which is living armor) and soon at lvl 5 (4lvl's of druid) be able to beast shape. Will he be getting all the bonuses +6 str +4 con +1 natural armor all on his X temperary hit point living armor eidolon.
I'm concerned I will be unable to even scratch this guy. Although he is reduced to making only his eidolons lvl 1 natural attacks.
Advice what do I do PLEASE!!
Nice Engrish Lobo :P J/K .. Thanks for posting this for us! I'm nervous my sorc is gonna be worthless since we found out all my dc's suck. I dont wanna cast just magic missle and scorching ray for then next 9 lvl's
I'm not sure exactly what you're asking, but yes you can use higher level slots to cast lower level spells even without metamagic. So if you have 5 4th level and 4 5th level slots you could use all of them to cast enervation, it would just take you nine rounds to cast it that many times. You don't even need metamagic to do that.
Wow this is amazing news!!! So what your saying to me is I have 8 Lvl 1 slots 8 Lvl 2 slots 6 Lvl 3 slots 5 Lvl 4 slots and 3 Lvl 5 slots, I can cast magic missle 30 times? (Once Per Round Ofc) YES!!!
We just found a rod of metamagic enlarge spell. Which is a +1, but I'm pretty sure you dont use the + descripter when using rods right? I'm looking to cast enervation in a boss fight every single round even after I'm out of that spell slot. ( I have higher spell slots )
Oh I didnt know that. So I could use a 5th lvl spell slot to cast fireball (3rd lvl spell) if I was out of lvl 3 spell slots without using meta magic?
So say I have 5 lvl 4 spell slots. I cast evervation 5 times. Then I use metamagic of a +1 to cast evervation at a lvl 5 spell slot. Does this work? So I could potentially give something 1d4 x 9 negative lvls?
I'm pretty sure this has already been discussed,but i don't find what i really need.
Soon i could need a home rule to prevent a couple of spellcasters from casting their spells,a magus and a sorcerer.
It is still hypothetical,but i'm pondering the possibility of having my party captured/enslaved soon or in upcoming quests,but now the problems i'm having is how to do it.
I know a GM must be extra careful when handling such situations,and the real concern isn't to arrange for a cool escape,but how to keep the spellcasters imprisoned for awhile.
When a player asked me, i told him "of course there are ways of keeping you from casting your spells...or else when a BBEG captures the PCs,and it happens sometimes,the only other possible choice to be sure you won't cast the spells you still have memorized is outright killing you"
When and if it will happen however i'll need to know what such ways are;
a sorcerer (draconic bloodline if this is important)is a pain in this regard,since she already has Eschew materials and if he takes Still spells and Silence spells....i don't want to think at that;for the magus it should be enough to strip her (female elf) of spellbook/components bags,but she will still have memorized slots, and can still take the aforementioned feats.
I thought of maybe some necklace that casts a personal anti-magic field and is person-specific,so it wouldn't work on other spellcasters,but maybe i'm overacting with designing such an item? Isn't it too powerful?
I know a Beholder is copyrighted by D&D but I'm sure you could convert one over to Pathfinder. Depending on what level your party is ofc you dont want an unavoidable TPK.
He lied to you and then knowingly roasted helpless humans rather than try to save them and you dont think he was being a jerk? As a person who plays Paladins a bit I would explain to his character why what he did was wrong, request he pay restitution to the families of those he has slain, perform contrition for his sinful acts, and watch him closely.
Any more lapses in judgement would be settled with the sword.
Hey guys, I am playing a LvL 9 Sorc "Ray Specialist" 20 Dex 16 Cha. My DPS is pretty good but I'm starting to get bored standing/flying around nuking from the back lines. I've already taken starsoul bloodline, my question is... Is there a way to find more adrenaline in combat as a sorc with a high dex?
Haste,Animal growth(sad that it's only one person),Fly, Invisibility, Enlarge person mass, Polymorph, Heroism, and Rage.
Also remember slow and grease are nice to have. Grease will help give extra attacks for your melee guys and slow will just gimp enemies. So bad that half of your party will be able to kite some of them.
NICE!! Totally forgot about grease and invisiblity. Those should give me some decent kudos.
Okay so what would you guys say are the best BUFFS!! For a sorc to cast on his/her team... I'm looking for the coolest/best buffs and combo buffs. Also good mass buffs that I can hit the whole party with if they exist ( I play a lot of DDO )... My favorites are:
Rage
Heroism
Haste
Blur
Also thinking maybe Enlarge Person for our grappler!
P.S. Our DM makes us vote at the end of each night who we thought was the best player of the night and drops SWEET bonuses on whoever gets the most votes.. Like 1d4 hp permanent or +1 initiative permanent or +1 skill permanent. SO IM TRYING TO GET FAVORITISM HERE!
THANKS!!!
CASTING
Casting Time 1 standard action
Components V, S
EFFECT
Range medium (100 ft. + 10 ft./level)
Effect ray
Duration instantaneous
Saving Throw none; Spell Resistance yes
DESCRIPTION
Focusing divine power like a ray of the sun, you project a blast of light from your open palm. You must succeed on a ranged touch attack to strike your target.
A creature struck by this ray of light takes 1d8 points of damage per two caster levels (maximum 5d8).
An undead creature takes 1d6 points of damage per caster level (maximum 10d6), and an undead creature particularly vulnerable to bright light takes 1d8 points of damage per caster level (maximum 10d8).
A construct or inanimate object takes only 1d6 points of damage per two caster levels (maximum 5d6).
No save makes it a good candidate for a blast-y based sorcerer (Orc bloodline maybe) spell perfection selection to boost the spell pen feat bonuses make it long range with reach, quickens, etc.
I wonder if, generally speaking, a cleric or oracle might have better ray options between the domain/ mystery spells and their base list?
There is a prestige class I might be able to take that is arcane/divine.. cant remember what they are called, but would that give me a better variaty of ray spells?
