ERRYL REYVAN II

Erryl, popped up and fired his stunner at Mr. Pink (in cover).
Stunner shot: 2d6 + 1 + 0 - 2 ⇒ (5, 3) + 1 + 0 - 2 = 7 for a possible 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (2, 5) + 3 = 10 stun damage.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Celebryn II

Celebryn prudently dives behind some luggage carts and peeks out to try to understand what's going on.
Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (7) + 10 = 17

CelebrynII Percep: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (15) + 10 = 25

"How well do you know Captain Veane? Have you traveled aboard the Throaty Mermaid before? If you did, are there any new crew members since you last sailed with him?"

Yhendorn shook his head again.

"I'm sorry. I never met anyone aboard here before this voyage."

Shaedeen wrote:
"Currently, our best clue seems to be the nature of the ashen invaders that suddenly appeared on the ship. I've never heard of such things; have you? Maybe if we learn where they came from, it'll point us toward your lord's killer."

Yhendorn turned his tearstained eyes to Shaedeen.

"What? What are you talking about, didn't you see?"
He looked back and forth between you all.
"The sawtoothed daggers. Surely you noticed they all had one, right? The signature weapon of the Red Mantis Assassins?"

You've all heard of the Red Mantis Assassins, but only as a myth. Kinda like being told that JFK had been whacked by HYDRA agents... They can't be real, right?

Shaedeen wrote:
"Also...you must have planned some measures of security to protect your lord. If you could share some of those--and we examine exactly how they were overcome--we might find some answers and a likely suspect."

Yhendorn shook his head sadly.

"I was his apprentice. His clerk and his bodyguard as well. He was an Arcanist of some note, but we had not come to more then the basic Alarm spell. In truth, I don't think he expected being attacked. Surely he would have told me! Would he not?" He asked plaintively.

The elf continued to weep.
Barely able to talk, he tells Shaedeen that his family served the Lord's family for generations, and now he is afraid they'll be ostracized.

Sense Motive DC15:
Depending on how deeply he believes in the nobility, and by all appearances he does, this guy is a candidate for suicide to expiate his failure sometime down the line.

Yhendorn staggered out of the passageway, tears streaming down his face.
"Master Sephriel is dead. Murdered." He said, dropping his bloody sword and crashing to the deck.

With that, the two figures in the loft stand up with relief and hop down agilely. They thank you effusively as they recover their bows.
"You didn't see that thing hammer those hobgobers." One said shuddering. "No way were we going to tangle with it."

Knowledge:Local DC12:
You recognize them as a couple of local half-elven hunters by the name of Lirosa and Taidel.

"“You can take care of the townsfolk now,” Taidel says.
Lirosa adds, “We’ve got hobgoblins to hunt.”

An elegantly dressed elf male who was otherwise unremarkable entered and bowed gracefully to the Captain.
"I am Yhendorn Cairora, Apprentice to my Lord Master Sephriel.
"He sends his regrets, but he is not yet acclimated to the motion of the ship and would be poor company tonight.
"He wishes to express confidence that he will be able to attend sometime in the days to come."
He said, then sat.
When offered rum, he reacted as if he had been offered cyanide, and vigorously waived it away.

Cynara wrote:
"Have you encountered any...peculiar elves? Pale hair, like mine, but dark grey skin?"

Master Eloquan's eyes unfocused as he thought.

"Hm. Well it is hard to tell. Elves are here from all over the world and beyond, with all their many shades of hair and skin and eyes... If the ones you seek came here, I might not have noticed.
"Many sages come to the Library here to research any information they can about the blot. The seers have predicted that the 'blot' will actually fall on Golarian, and soon."

He smiled wryly.
"And they also believe that the 'blot' is being brought down upon the world as punishment for the Azlanti empires' hubris before the gods."
He turned to you again.
"Hm. Perhaps if you want to speak to some of the sages, you could go see Ekardani or Talgoren. By a strange coincidence, they are the only two humans left in the city."

Master Eloquan frowned slightly as he turned to Nakoda.
"Celwynvian, the City of Emerals Rains? Hmm. I am not sure I can give you a definitive number young woman.
"You are human, yes? Well, I have come to understand that time flows differently for you than for us the Eldri. It could be thousands of years, or hundreds of thousands."
He said, his eyes drifting.
"This was one of our peoples first dwelling places after we had traversed the void from the First World." He mused aloud.
He blinked and turned back to Nakoda.
"Or did you mean this Library?"

Zephram wrote:
"Perhaps we could inquire with Master Eloquan about our quarry?"

The distinguished elven man's eyes look up to you as you approach his desk.

"I greet you, ladies and gentlemen. You have the look of foreigners visiting our fair city. I am Eloquan, Master Libriarian here in Celwynvian. How may I help you?" He said, looking you over with mild curiosity.

Again the elf noble seemed to have trouble drawing his attention away from the titanic blot in the sky.
"Hm? Oh, the shadow folk? They scurried away up the avenue." He said, waiving his hand generally the same way you are going, if you intend to visit the Library of Reenai.

The elf noble turned from watching the blot to Cynara.
"Hm? Oh yes. It was just noticed a month ago."
He turned back to gazing raptly at the blot again.
"Magnificent is it not?" He said, raptly staring into the sky. "The Celestial ramifications are incredible! The Celestial Mechanics texts will have to be rewritten...
"But you are new here, and clearly have more questions.
"Your best font of information is the Library of Reenai."
He gestured vaguely to his right.
"Down the boulevard, on your right. Master Eloquan is who you need."

The elf noble turned and nodded in your direction.
"Greetings newcomers. That in the sky? That is a very good question strangers. We call it "The Occlusion"; an astronomical event never before seen on Golarion. Or indeed anywhere in this planetary system!
"Some wags have informally nicknamed it 'The Inkblot', or just 'The Blot', but I think that is overly crude for such a magnificent sight, don't you think?"

Following Sephriel up the gangplank and aboard the ship came an young looking elf. He has his hands (and even his teeth) full carrying bags, duffels and purses, as well as dragging two large trunks that somehow float through the air.
You guesstimate that this is a servant of some kind to Sephriel as he follows the lord and yeoman below.

Out of time to search and several squads of drow bearing down on you, you quickly make your escape along the preplanned routes.
Eventually you make your way back to base camp, where you are debriefed at the command tent.

Kaerishiel nodded at you cooly.
"Congratulations on a successful mission. The Drow alchemical production has been stopped, and there is no chance they can resume producing their special hand crossbow bolts.
"I should point out that your solution, however effective, has released a vast cloud of horrible vapor that is currently drifting about the city..."

Kaerishiel spoke up, motioning for a brown and green clad elf to step forward.
"This is Sylvianna, one of our most experienced scouts. She has been assigned as our liaison with your mercenary company and will lead you to your initial start positions.
"When you start your infiltration is up to you, but our full force will attack when sunlight touches the tallest spire in Celwynvian.
"Needless to say, if you start too early and fumble it, you risk warning the enemy. If you start too late, you won't be able to take the building in time to clear the approach for our regular forces."

He does not sound very hopeful that you will perform adequately.
He turns and exits the tent.

When the flash popped, the startled elf had his sword halfway out of its sheath.
Infuriated, he responded to Nakoda.
"Word will spread how the Elven nation dealt with a threat to the world DESPITE your incompetence!"
And to Zane; "Which only occurred with your CONSIDERABLE and WILLING ASSISTANCE..." He began hotly.

Kaerishiel spoke up, "I did say these mercenaries wouldn't be able to handle this duty.
"Their incompetence allowed a drow sorcerer to spy on our most confidential strategic discussions!
"Let the Shin'Rakorath assault all of the initial locations. We do not need help from these outsiders.
"This is an elven conflict, no matter the implications for the rest of the world!"
He said urgently.
