Shaedeen M. Valzanar
Shaedeen arrives fashionably late at the murder scene...but fully armed and armored, should there be another attack! After nearly being knocked over by an irate Captain Veane, the teen rogue pokes around perfunctorily in the dead elf's cabin, looking for clues. Thurden seems to be on top of things, so Shae takes a more in-depth peek at the books to make sure there are no letters or other writings hidden in the pages or within the bindings.

When he examines the ashes, Reijo's gaze softens. His eyes then seem to look not at the ash, or the deck, but beyond them... into a dark memory.
In the room of the murder victim, he shrugs after the captain's departure.
When Thurden answers his question, he gruffly replies, "Thanks, Cap'n Obvious." Less gruffly, "I wonder who, more specifically..."
He also examines the door from behind Thurden. As if thinking the same thought, he nods approvingly of the dwarf's question.
Also taking note of the deck, he also seems to grunt his agreement.
He then walks over to the deceased's books. One at a time, he picks them up to briefly skim through for hand-written notes or other oddities of interest. He shakes each one as well, just enough to release any loose notes or other thin trinkets which might be hiding within the pages. He also checks the pockets of his clothes: both the clothes on the dead lord, as well as his spare attire. Finally, he takes a gander at the scrimshaw pipe, and sniffs the empty tobacco sack.

"Sunny"
Sunny does her best to try and... If not console the Captain. At least comfort the man.
The tanned, still naturally clad Elf lass, is from a seeming different world than the late Noble.
It's not just her demeanour nor bearing. Unlike the late Lord Sephiriel, Sunny's speach is primitive, but honest in its candour.
She does her best to show her confidence in Captain Veane and his crew with their handling of the sudden, surprise assault. Doing her best to let them all know she will stand beside them in any further trials they should face together.

"Hmpf. What have we here..." When Reijo sniffs the empty tobacco bag, his face shows recognition. He then frowns pensively.

If anyone's character knows anything about smoking, I see no reason why you can't read my spoiler in Camris's last post.

I would imagine a Know Nature or Survival check might also get me where you're going.
Dugan harrumphs at Reijo's revelation. 'We might want to speak with the captain.' He looks about the busy deck full of open ears. 'Maybe in his cabin?'
Shaedeen M. Valzanar
Shaedeen whispers her findings as well, though she's not sure what to make of them (see spoiler above). "If he were seasick, though, he might not have felt like writing letters."

Okay... not sure how above board this is... The Mate's cabin is on/in the way towards teh Captain's cabin, yes?
Should Sunny cross paths with another Elf, she'd of course seek to talk to said personage.
As she apporaches tha Captain's cabin Sunny notices the slumped figure of a fellow Elf crumpled besides a door frame. Gently kneeling she speaks quielty in lven.
"Here good Sir. How fairs you?"

She gently places a hand upon his shoulder,

Along with the others, the rough sailor pauses to hear what the elvish manservant has to say before heading for the captain's cabin. While the others question him, Reijo takes the time to light up his own pipe. The elvish goes over his head, but he seems darkly fascinated by the fluid words coming from Sunny's mouth.
Guess he can spot the elf when he sees others spot him first.

When you arrive at the Captain's cabin and knock, you hear a curt "Come!" from inside.
The relatively nicely furnished captain’s cabin is where Captain Veane can be found when not on deck giving orders.
You him busy at work at his desk, writing in a thick, leather–bound logbook. Veane is not alone, as the ship’s resident "yeoman" Azuretta lazes on his bed, reading an illustrated chapbook.

The elf mumbling to himself in Elvish while shaking his head and tears
;_; Awe... Tha poor feller.
Sunny skips into the Captain's room at his call. She nods and smiles to the lass reading the bound paper, the images glimpsed catching the tanned Elf's attention for a moment before she comes to stand near/besides the Captain's desk.
"Hey-ya there." She begins. "I jus' come ta offer some words a helpin'." She says politely.

Shaedeen M. Valzanar
Shaedeen considers just ignoring the blubbering elf but then decides to try to shake some sense into him.
"I know you elves think you've got plenty of time for everything and probably grieve for like four months, but that's not gonna cut it here! If you want justice done for your master--or just cold revenge--you need to do it before the trail gets cold and any clues are lost! Now get your wits together and tell me anything you know that might point us in the direction of whoever's responsible for the murder!"
Diplomacy Check: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21
Reijo Ilvonen
Before continuing on to the captain's cabin, Reijo pauses to hear what the grieving elf might reveal in response to Shaedeen. Depending on what the elf says, Reijo adds, "Looky here, mate. Ye gots me sympathy, but I know thar's more to the story than appearances would imply. And we best know the truth, if we wants ta know what we're up against."
Giving a knowing look, Reijo looks around to make sure noone else is within earshot before adding in a hushed tone, "He liked ta smoke Holt Valley leaf, so... yer master wasn't exactly a real nobleman now, was he?"

The skritching of the Captain's pen stops. Slowly Captain Vean's eyes turn towards you all.
"You can help," He says clearly "By finding the murderer. For everyone's sake." He pauses setting his quill aside.
"Especially yours."
Sunny stands and, for the moment, blinks her large blue eyes at hte captain's words. She glances towards the cabion's door seeking her travelling companions, her gave again breifly alighting on Azuretta.
She absently scratches at her blond mop, a frown beginning to from upon her fair features.

The elf continued to weep.
Barely able to talk, he tells Shaedeen that his family served the Lord's family for generations, and now he is afraid they'll be ostracized.
Shaedeen M. Valzanar
"That's...unfortunate," Shaedeen replies, uncertain of how to proceed with the intensely distraught elf. After pausing for several seconds, she comes up with a new plan.
"It's clear you cared deeply for your lord," she begins. "But he's gone now. The best you can do at the moment is to bring his murderers to justice. Currently, our best clue seems to be the nature of the ashen invaders that suddenly appeared on the ship. I've never heard of such things; have you? Maybe if we learn where they came from, it'll point us toward your lord's killer."
"Also...you must have planned some measures of security to protect your lord. If you could share some of those--and we examine exactly how they were overcome--we might find some answers and a likely suspect."
"How well do you know Captain Veane? Have you traveled aboard the Throaty Mermaid before? If you did, are there any new crew members since you last sailed with him?"

Veane fixed Sunny with cold eyes.
"Was there something else?" he asked, clearly willing you to leave now.
Sunny shakes her blond mop, "Nuh-uh." She replies succinctly. She does offer a freindly smile.
"I'll be askin' folks question along with me freinds." She nods before skipping off with a nod and a wave. She stops, wriggling out past the door as her freinds enter. She nods in greeting as they move past.

Reijo Ilvonen
Reijo fails to fully realize the extent of the elf's dark mood. Allowing Shaedeen to continue on her roll, he interjects only once to add, "I've seen this ash-and-disappearin' act before. Once..."
Looking around over his shoulders with suspicion, "Best ta becalm meself til we've some privacy." He nods to Thurden's suggestion, and waits for the others to follow.

"Currently, our best clue seems to be the nature of the ashen invaders that suddenly appeared on the ship. I've never heard of such things; have you? Maybe if we learn where they came from, it'll point us toward your lord's killer."
Yhendorn turned his tearstained eyes to Shaedeen.
"What? What are you talking about, didn't you see?"He looked back and forth between you all.
"The sawtoothed daggers. Surely you noticed they all had one, right? The signature weapon of the Red Mantis Assassins?"
You've all heard of the Red Mantis Assassins, but only as a myth. Kinda like being told that JFK had been whacked by HYDRA agents... They can't be real, right?
"Also...you must have planned some measures of security to protect your lord. If you could share some of those--and we examine exactly how they were overcome--we might find some answers and a likely suspect."
Yhendorn shook his head sadly.
"I was his apprentice. His clerk and his bodyguard as well. He was an Arcanist of some note, but we had not come to more then the basic Alarm spell. In truth, I don't think he expected being attacked. Surely he would have told me! Would he not?" He asked plaintively.| MaleNPC5 |

Finally he grunted assent."Very well then. If you think it will help." He stated.

Sunny wrote:When people are ready to move along Sunny will try and get the poor fellow to her room and thence try and keep him company...I'm afraid that Yhendorn is simply not in the mood at the moment.

Whut other room would tha' feller be wantin' ta' be in? Tha' desceased feller's space? That wouldn't be right comfy. Sunny is jus' offerin' tha' feller some place ta' be.

At Thurden's comment Sunny does little more than tilt her head but nods.
Reijo Ilvonen
Unlike the others, Reijo is unphased by Yhendorn's revelation about the near-mythical assassins. He nods his head with a grunt, as if confirming his own suspicion.
Looking over his shoulder to ensure no one else besides Yhendorn and party members are within hearing distance, he whispers gruffly, "Aye. I seen them, once before. The ashen disappearin' act be their callin' card, too."
He adds, "Best ye not say that aloud again, lest ye be wantin' ta scare the crew s#!^less..."
Thurden 'Salt' Leadbeard
'So, as I see it, we got waylaid by a crew of cloaked men trying to seem like Red Mantis assassins. Meanwhile, someone who smokes a peculiar brand of tobacco stabbed the elf to death inside his locked and maybe alarmed cabin. Anything I missed?' Thurden counts off points on his thick fingers as he speaks.
"Sunny"
Sunny huddles closer.
"But.. them folks? They all disappearded, like?" She seems a little unsure about some of Thurden's ideas.
"Whut's tha' smoky smell about? Were it fresh like? Maybe ta' be hidin' somat else?" She frowns and shakes her blond mop.
"Is all so... cop-lee-kate-ed." (>_<)
Before brightening some what.
"Least ways. All we's got'a do now is be sniffin' about fer that smell, right?" (^_^)
