So, is Veshtahz our friend now? What was he looking for? I vote to explore the rest of the temple and learn as much as we can. (But I also understand that this scenario has been long.) We need to take back the Onyx Sage Jewel for sure though.

Then, upon seeing the scene in southern room:

”What terrible events happened here? Did they turn against each other, or were they slaughtered by some outside foe? The Black Moon, Ahriman, and the House of Oblivion? All sound terrible if I were to say a word about them. Sometimes knowledge leads not to enlightenment, but to madness.”

Is there a check to recognize any of these names. I don’t think we’ve heard them before.

What do the robes look like? Are they religious robes, or the robes of a cultist perhaps? Not that Mafisadi has any knowledge anyway.

”Could this be one of the chanters we heard, perhaps strayed too from the crowd? What is going on down here, in this strange place where no one has supposedly been for hundreds of years?”

Mafisadi flexes his toes in disappointment.

As Hansee goes to try the door, Mafisadi give him a hardy thumbs up, but then frowns upon discovery that the door is locked.

”If Teehax can’t pick it, I will humbly kick it open,”he says, flexing his opposable big toes.

I don’t think I have the gold for any purchases before we go, but if the dungeons were cleared out by the priests we should be fine anyway, right?

Mafisadi nods in agreement with Kelevan’s conditions.

Then to Hansee he says, ”Eeek eek ook ook op eeek!”

”Forgove me but I can’t say I’ve heard good things about this Grandmaster Torch. Perhaps we’re better off without his help.”

I don’t mind trying to figure this out on our own, but given our skill checks this game...

Mafisadi glares at Hansee’s variously sized sticks. ”What were you hoping to do with those, dear cousin?”

”I’m not enthused about the name, I must say to you all, but it seems we are now one step closer to finding this Dungeon of the Ever-Dying.

From the corner of his mouth, Mafisadi whispers to his friends, ”He’s lying!”

Mafisadi greets the young man with a nod, both palms pressed together at the center of his chest. ”Peace and light, I am Mafiasadi. My colleagues and I are investigating a spirit that is causing problems across Merab. Have you by any chance encountered such a thing as it?”

Mafisadi puts a hand to Mauta’s cheek, but is unable to calm her.

”Shall we go to the temple first and speak to the woman? Can any of us speak ancient Osirian?”

It just seems easiest to do them in order, but I’ve no real preference.

Does the woman in the visions match the woman in the murals?

Mafisadi explains the woman and the vision he saw.

”She was creating a terrible plague, I’m telling you, this poor horned creature suffered terribly. If this ghost we’re looking for is the ghost of this creature, it has a right to be so angry.”

Is this the last room? If so, should we head back to the front?

Mafisadi, ever seeking enlightenment, and not wanting to be out done by his cousin, picks up a horn too.

Does the spiral on the chest match at all what we saw on the floor when we first entered?

”Does any of it detect as magical?” Mafisadi asks his more magically skilled friends. ”And what are we to make of these images? Who is this woman?”

”If my eyes are to believe what I am seeing, it looks like there was quite the fight here,” Mafisadi says, surveying the room. And then upon noticing the spitballs: ”Please tell me no, but could this be the handiwork of goblins?”

Mafisadi shakes out his hands and hops from one foot to the other, grimacing in pain.

”The journey to self-perfection isn’t without some agony, am I right cousin? But at least we’re not the ones broken in two.”

”Don’t you clobber my cousin! Believe you me, you won’t be able to knock any sense into him anyway.”

Mafisadi unleashes a flury of blows on the statue, painful as it might be.

Mafisadi doesn’t have knowledge arcana, but we saw broken statues in the other room, right? So, he can assume this one may be some kind of guardian and may animate.

”Most patient and vigilant guardian, we seek only enlightenment in this place.” Mafisadi bows to the statue and attempts to tumble past.

Is there any kind of check we can make to identify this statue? Does it look to be threatening us?

Do we see another exit from this room? Are the broken stairs to the platform climbable, or are they too broken?

Mafisadi blows the dust off his nuckles, then presses his palms together and bows respectfully toward the pile of bones that was once a skeletal champion.

Mafisadi steps over to the skeletons and gives them a closer look.

”Clearly these were humanoids of some sort. From the discoloration on their bones, they suffered from many and several horrific and fatal diseases all at one time. Not even an elf could live long enough to suffer through so many diseases at one time. Some sort of magic or divine energy must have keep them alive.”

He scratches his chin with his lizard-like tail, thinking.

”They may not have been prisoners so much as test subjects. What an even more horrible thought.”

”Poor souls indeed. I do have to say I am relieved to know you hear the voices too, Teehax. But that’s the only thing pleasant to me about this place so far as I’m seeing it.”

He turns to Hansee. ”What say you dear cousin?”

Sadly Mafisadi does’t have Heal or Kn: Religion. I should put a point in religion next level. Note to self!

”Still you mock my kurta after all these years?! Mafisadi snaps.

Then he calmly closes his eyes, places his palms together at the center of his chest, and repeats his mantra.

“Om mani Ragdya hum... Om mani Ragdya hum...” Occasionally opening an eye to check on Hansee.

”More ancient writing on these scraps of parchment, but alas, I can’t read this language.”

Mafisadi gestures toward the alchemist fires. ”Perhaps these are for you?” he says to Mogok. ”Best take them before my dear cousin blows himself up.”

Mafisadi scratches one of his big round ears as he studies the writing at Teehax’s feet.

”Immortality and dark magic are an ominous combination.”

Perhaps up the stairs to the north, since Mogok already looked up there?

Mafisadi feigns a deep meditative trance.

”Ohmmm...” he intones while Hansee chatters on. Quickly realizing Hansee is not going to stop chattering, Mafisadi opens an eye.

”Oh, if it isn’t Hansee, favorite cousin. So nice of you to join us. And you’ve brought that humble staff I see. Perhaps you can help Teehax bust open that chest over there? I think he’s having some trouble.”
