Liberty's Edge

Tengu Rogue 7

"I admit, Captain. This mission turned out to have one of the most difficult encounters I've ever met. Those machines were extremely deadly and anyone who meets one down there is lucky to walk away from that place still alive. Had I known what was there, I would have sent for help, but by the time we met the danger, we were still trying to simpy escape. Oh well, captain. I guess I will have to live and learn. For our next mission, can you pease send us to some place where we don't have to fight machines and we can practice cooperation outside where it is sunny? Well, I thought it was at least worth asking."

Thanks, everyone! I had a great time with all of you. We'll have to adventure again sometime soon!

No day job : (

Thank you, Andrew, for a great adventure! I had lots of fun and I am glad we all survived. Let me know if you decide to offer anything else down the road. My next convention is February 19th and would need to have my characters free by then.

"Krawk! Indeed they even trust this old nut cracking feather brained bird. And look how strange I am." Lyklor says with a grin. "In truth, I think you would find life much more enjoyable when you are working with a team for the benefit of many others. As, Janira Gavix always use to always remind me, the Pathfinder's three tenets are to explore, report, and most importantly, cooperate! I do want to thank you for doing just that, because I don't think we would be standing here, if you hadn't woken me up to swing my blade against that nasty contraption. Thank you!"

Liberty's Edge

Tengu Rogue 7

Lyklor takes a five foot steps to flank with Zos and drives his elven curved blade down upon the wretched machine.

Elven Curved Blade: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17
Damage : 1d10 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
Additional Sneak Attack Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 4

"You are one tough nut, but I will crack you yet!"

Liberty's Edge

Tengu Rogue 7

Do you need a remove paralysis spell or can you simply wake him up with a move action?

Liberty's Edge

Tengu Rogue 7

Is Lyklor paralyzed for the rest of this battle? Is he allowed another saving throw to free himself or is there anything else that can be done?

Liberty's Edge

Tengu Rogue 7

I'm not sure if I am simply shaken or actually paralyzed, but Lyklor will attack if possible.

Round 2

Lyklor steps up and drives his Elven curved blade into the machine!

Elven Curved Blade: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24
Damage: 1d10 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Confirm Critical: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24

Round 1

Lyklor charges up and attacks the lone mechanical creature with his elven curved blade.

Elven Great Sword: 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 5 + 2 = 13
Damage: 1d10 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6

Sneak Damage (if applicable) : 1d6 ⇒ 2

"I don't remember this contraption before! Let's take it down to a scrap heap!"

Liberty's Edge

Tengu Rogue 7

"It looks like we have explored everything forward that we were able. Now, I'm getting tired of this place! Let's see if the doors we came through will get us out of here. Are we all ready to leave now?"

Lyklor checks out the door on the southern side of the map, trying to get out the way we came in.

Liberty's Edge

Tengu Rogue 7

I am happy to keep things moving, but I am not sure what to do. Please be advised that I am signed up to run this scenario on November 8th at Carnage on the Mountain. I am hoping we will be done before then so I can read up and prepare for the scenario.

Speaking of Carnage on the Mountain, are any of you fine Pathfinders coming up to Vermont's Premier Pathfinder Weekend on November 7 - 9 in Killington? I will be up there with a few others and I am happy to offer floor space in my hotel room.

Liberty's Edge

Tengu Rogue 7

"If you ask me, this training mission has turned into a trial by machine! We've got to figure out what all of those knobs and buttons do. Its like a puzzle where we have to stop the lights from flashing red. I think that we basically need to find a holographic interface and bring it downstairs."

Liberty's Edge

Tengu Rogue 7

"I am all for going back and complaining about this training mission. I certainly liked pushing buttons, but this was far more dangerous than a mere training mission. I am also not seeing the level of compensation normally associated with this level of risk. Are you two certain that you did not find anything else?"

I am wondering if we can take the 'elevator' to a different floor?

Liberty's Edge

Tengu Rogue 7

"So is this room now safe to explore? Does it give us any further insight into this strange place?"

Liberty's Edge

Tengu Rogue 7

"So can you explain to me why you are hurt? You didn't face any fighting machines did you? Is this place worth further exploration, or should we try and push more buttons?"

Liberty's Edge

Tengu Rogue 7

So what is the situation? Do we have Zosimos and Archimedicus back from the lift? Do we know what has happened yet? I try to only play in character and not metagame, but I am happy to keep things moving. By the way, I want to GM this adventure on November 8th at Carnage on the Mountain. Are we still on schedule to finish within the month?

Liberty's Edge

Tengu Rogue 7

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10

"I can imagine what that's been like. I once knew a rotten Tengu names Razorbeak who use to put caltrops in my boots when I wasn't looking. I learned to sleep with my boots on after that!"

Liberty's Edge

Tengu Rogue 7

Lyklor approaches Shechera and discusses adventuring with her.

"So tell me Shechera, what got you into this line of work in the first place? Do you like the life of adventure, risk and danger?"

Archimedicus wrote:

Hmm Perhaps there is no other route to possibly go but forward.

"Perhaps you are right. This is starting to feel like one giant trap that uses my love of pushing buttons as the bait. So, what do you suggest Archimedicus? Do you want to try and push forward, even if we can't breath so well?"

Liberty's Edge

Tengu Rogue 7

Well, we come to that time of year again where I head off for the weekend to play harp for the Highland Games. It will be interesting this year if the vote for independence goes yes. I won't be able to post until Monday. Have a great weekend!

"I'm not sure, my feathered friend. I wonder if that second message simply repeated the first, or if the two were different."

"You might be on to something, Polo. It may be giving directions to both dog creatures and to taldans. But then I wonder why it is expecting both sorts of creatures? This certainly is a mystery. I think we should try to find this negligible atmosphere as well. But first, are there any preparations that we need to make before we push that button?"

Liberty's Edge

Tengu Rogue 7

Lyklor joins the others for a ride in the "lift!"

"Kr-uk!" The tengu exclaims! "I think we are in a moving box and there are some invisible creatures telling us some information. I don't understand what the dog creature is saying, but other one seems to have found a negligible atmosphere. Do you think that is good news or bad?"

Liberty's Edge

Tengu Rogue 7

"I've seen that expression before. You look like you can understand that chicken scratch on that paper. So does it talk about this little set of numbers will do in that contraption?"

Liberty's Edge

Tengu Rogue 7

"Now that Arcimedicus mentions it, the writing does look a bild child like. Polo, should I take it from the shaking of your head that you can't read this either? Well, even without the message, we could still try this combination of numbers and see what happens. Come with me and let's see what happens."

Lyklor returns to the small room and prepares to enter the combination.

Liberty's Edge

Tengu Rogue 7

"Yes, they may be valuable if we sell them, but they are likely more valuable to us if we use them to get to the bottom of this mystery. These things may keep us alive!"

When Lyklor sees the numbers on the scrawled note, he becomes most excited.

"Look here! This must be the combination we are looking for! Let's give it a try. Well, first let's see what the note says. Can any of you read this language? Sadly, I'm not familiar with it, but the script does look rather vulgar. Do any of you recognize this language?"

Liberty's Edge

Tengu Rogue 7

Congratulations! That sounds like a great run! My brother has done that run before, but I have never been persuaded to do it. I've enjoying coaching soccer this fall.

Liberty's Edge

Tengu Rogue 7

"Good thinking, Payj! That was very clever to use a skeleton gauntlet. Green seems to be a better color!"

Lyklor checks the control panels to see if anything of the words have changed on them.

Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19

Liberty's Edge

Tengu Rogue 7

"I love opening these walls! This is a remarkable place. But look here folks, I see this strange blue hand here with numbers on it. Do any of you want to place your hand on the blue hand? I'm sure it will do something. I just don't know if its good or bad."

Intelligence Check: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12

Liberty's Edge

Tengu Rogue 7

"Well, let's try pushing some buttons. That always seems to help."

Lyklor goes up to the door in the center of the room and looks for a button to open it. He also gives it a quick glance to see if there are any traps connected with it.

Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8

If it looks safe, he will try to open it.

Liberty's Edge

Tengu Rogue 7

"Kr-rrr-uk!

Am I glad I didn't pull the lever this time!

"Zosimos, what did you do? What happened?"

The tengu moves around the room and reads the Taldane readouts.

"This message is in Taldane, but it almost seems like another language. It says here that the carousel has halted between positions. It says we need to realign the carousel to access the exits from the security sublevel. I'm not sure exactly what it means, but I have a feeling that we have more buttons to push if we want to get out of here. It says the 'manual realignment systems is offline', but I do not even see a line here!"

Lyklor inspects the control panel, looking for some indication of how to move the carousel.

Lyklor pulls out his wand of cure light wounds and tries to heal himself up, but is unable to activate the device.

"How do you guys make this thing work? It looks so easy when you do it!"

Once Zosimo puts the wand to good use, Lyklor is healed up to full strength.

"Ahh that feels much better!"

46 charges remain

Liberty's Edge

Tengu Rogue 7

I feel really bad about using people's charges on their CLW wands. I will happily purchase one. I just wasn't thinking when we started the campaign. GMTrex, I am not sure how you want me to handle it. Can I retroactively purchase one and use it now, or shall I rely on the generosity of my kind pathfinders? If this is not the time to make the purchase, I will plan on it for the end of the adventure.

Liberty's Edge

Tengu Rogue 7

Lyklor looks around at Polo and the wounded dog.

"I don't know what to do! The halfliing and the dog look like they are going to bleed to death. Can one of you tap heal them? While you are at it, can one of you heal me? I was not expecting to get quite so hurt on this training run!"

Round 2

Lyklor beats his feathery arms and makes a hasty retreat.

Withdraw!

Round 1

Lykor moves up and swings his two handed blade directly at the right hand skeleton.

Move action: move diagonally right one up one.
Standard action: attack the baddies with the Elven Curved Blade.

Liberty's Edge

Tengu Rogue 7

Lyklor searches for traps on the door.

Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16 (+1 traps)

"Archimedicus, you know you should let me push the button to the door! These portals have so many deadly traps in them, that it is much better if I check them out first!"

Liberty's Edge

Tengu Rogue 7

That's a really good idea. I will consider that. This may be a better post for the discussion thread, but is there a way to earn extra treasure with pick pocketing in PFS? I never really thought that would be an option.

Shechera wrote:
"No way. This place looks clean --" she gestures at the room you're standing in "-- not picked over like everything else. There migh' be somethin' worth all this death down here."

"I'm not sure why you think there is something worth dying for down here. These machine contraptions don't look like the treasure hoarding type. Is that the reason you folks are down here. . . to loot this place? If you want great risk and reward, you might consider looking for a dragon. I think this is the risk only dungeon."

Lyklor is reluctant to include these bandits in this adventure. He is not very trusting and he is not going to be as inclined to share treasure with them. However, he will try to keep this opinion to himself and simply encourage them to find their way out when the right opportunity comes.

Liberty's Edge

Tengu Rogue 7

"Kr-r-uk! That is still a mystery to us, but maybe if we share what we both know, we can figure it out. We were sent down here on a training mission. It was suppose to be a simple affair where we tested our skills. However, we began finding strange doors, deadly contraptions, different colored dye traps, and finally victims. We've been tracking footprints, trying to make sense of it, but we've only found more traps, contraptions, and victims. You are the first survivors we've found. Please, tell us your names and what you know about this place."

Liberty's Edge

Tengu Rogue 7

"We are here completing a training mission and we see that some things have gone wrong. Is anybody in your company hurt? Honestly, we mean no harm. What can we do to help you?"

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22

Liberty's Edge

Tengu Rogue 7

Thanks for the CLW tap!

"Please, don't shoot! Don't be afraid. We are adventurers. We notice there has been some trouble down here and we would trying to figure out what went wrong down here. Are you ok? What brings you down here?"

GMTrex wrote:
Lyklor, do you have a wand for yourself? Failing the UMD check doesn't expend a charge, you'd just have to try again.

In truth, I do not have a wand of CLW yet. I am happy to purchase one, but I was not sure that I had the prestige to allow such a big purchase. Besides, it is probably not good to make that purchase at this time. If I could get a few hits from somebody's wand this adventure, I would be most grateful.

"Well, I don't think those contraptions will be giving us any trouble anytime soon. This place seems like the room for their reject constructions. Shall we proceed north through the next door?"

Lyklor examines the door to the north carefully, looking for any traps.

Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23 (+1 for traps)

If it has a button to open, Lyklor politely asks for permission to push it.

"Zosimos, do you mind if I take a turn and try this fancy wall opener?"

Liberty's Edge

Tengu Rogue 7

I am a few hits points down with nonlethal damage as well. I can use magic device if necessary, but it would likely be better for someone familiar with the spell to use it.

"Let's hope none of these mechanical contraptions come alive or we are all in serious trouble!"

Lyklor looks around the room for traps and some means of activating the construction. (So he can figure out what not to do.)

Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10 (+1 traps)

"This is great! Somebody has stolen the amulet that proves we passed the trial! Now how are we to show we have accomplished our mission? I think something has gone amiss here, but I'm not sure what has gone wrong."

Is there any evidence on these bodies that they are pathfinders?

Liberty's Edge

Tengu Rogue 7

A smile comes across Lykor's beak as he looks at his handiwork.

"One nut, two wires. I wonder what comes next for this blade?"

Are we out of initiative now?

Liberty's Edge

Tengu Rogue 7

Posting while I have a minute. I will be rather busy all afternoon.

"We are down to the wire, my friends!"

Round 2

Lyklor swings his elven curved blade with full fury into the wire.

Liberty's Edge

Tengu Rogue 7

"Kr-r-uk! One wire cut! One to go! This blade has gone from nuts to wires. Maybe I will be able to take down something menacing some day. The crazy construct looks like it might do the trick!"

Liberty's Edge

Tengu Rogue 7

I've been waiting for this opportunity! I'm tired of just attacking walnuts!
