Do we notice if things (anything) is tied down, such as to avoid loss from a storm?

Is my Detect Magic still available? If so, I would like to move just close enough to encompass the plants, though if possible I'd like to remain in the air. I will not fly directly overhead however.

If the Detect Magic is no longer available I will rely upon my Knowledge skill (nature) and attempt to discern worthy fact of the plant in question.

"Tis seems the building is free of enchantments yet I detect a lingering foulness in the air itself. I say knock three times and if no one be home then enter. If someone opens the door, I'll tell i'm it was your idea" (speaking to no-one specific but to the group in general).

I will then flitter straight above the door to watch the action.

Detect Magic has a range of 60', cone shaped, duration of 1 minute per level, so 3 minutes provide I continue to concentrate; also picks up lingering magic.....Faint 1d6 rounds, Moderate 1d6 minutes, Strong 1d6x10 minutes, Overwhelming 1d6 days. I will continue to concentrate until someone or something breaks it. Depending upon how you do spells in your campaign, I will plan on walking to the next location the dwarf vists and continue to exercise the spell, maintaining concentration as I do so.

I didn't want to snoop. Your characters are your characters.

I shall cast detect magic and attempt to avoid getting any other party members within the area of effect. If I can cast from the air with ease I shall, if that makes casting difficult I shall do it from the rear of the building.

Erkholt, I most humbly offers ye my detect magic to assists you in this dangerous endeavor you appear to be considerin. I would truly feel most terrible should something horiffic happen to you. If their be any lingering magic effects or an unseen advisary, me spell will certainly notice any magic they tis carry or spell effects they has cast prior to our arrival. What you say? Less of coarse you feels that such magic might be thrown about in an attempt to seduce ye....or worse....question ye dwarfhood and sturdiness in battle. Be that the case, then I says what ya waitin fer....go in, coarse the polite thing to do is ta knock first. Surely you tis not a dwarf without manners?

The Search check called for results in: 9 + 3 = 14. Once complete, I would like to fly about 30 feet in the air providing nothing obscures my vision and get a fey eye's view of the majority of the area. I'm looking for anything unusual or interesting.

Do I see any paths leading out of the village, such as an indication of which direction people may have gone or something arrived by?

How tall are the buildings?

I shall just flitter about, following the others for the time being.

Erkhlot also looks around for the little fey who cast the glitterdust that possibly saved some of them. "Well Lshay, seems like yer a might handy lass to have around in a scrap. Me thanks to ye lass." he bows low to the flighty little woman. "But don't ye go tryin' none of yer feminine wiles and magics on me, ye hear!" he says with a frown.

"Well now, I deeply appreciates yer sentiment of gratitude. Certianly tis most kind of ye to express yourself. Not all men are able to do that ya know. Now as far as me womanly wiles is concerned, I appreciates the fact that you realize I could make ye mine if I so chose but as far as magic is concerned, I assures you, none would be needed, though it certainly makes the chase more interesting.

Now then, let us see about these here three on the beach."

With that, I fly towards them at a relatively slow speed in order to be able to appear non-threatening and at the same time judge their actions should they take any. I then turn and shout back at Caran Lith Draug....

"There's nothing wrong with mother nature, after all, I'm part of it, so I guess it must be perfect. C'mon!"

As long as the opponents are fleeing I will withhold casting Mage Armor. When the opportunity arises, I would like to rise into the air a bit higher in order to get a better view of who is left and who has fallen or may be injured.

Glitterdust has a duration of 1 round/level, so a total of 3 rounds.

Once I am behind the ship I cast Mage Armor on myself.

Balance check 5 + 4 = 9.

Once I am on my feet and can prepare for battle, I will begin by casting Glitterdust in the most condensed area of foes within range range is 130 ft, and it affects a 10' radius spread.

After that my plan is to fly behind the ship and then cast Mage Armor on myself, giving me an AC of 18 (10 + 4 for Mage Armor, +4 for Dex).

My initiative is 9 + 4 (Dex) = 13.

Glitterdust is a standard action, so if possible, I'll fly as well if time and the situation permits within the first round.

I fly at a speed of 40'.

If Glitterdust is successful, it will blind create a visible outline around they and any invisible creatures within the area of effect. A Will saving throw negates the spells effect. My DC is 16 (10 + 2 for spell level + 4 for charisma bonus).

Are Padded armor and cloth armor the same thing?

ok combat fluidity.

it would be preferable to not have combats lag waiting for an individual; how long would you guys like to have to post for a combat round? it doesnt matter to me so much, I want you guys to be comfortable. I think a week is to long; I am thinking a few days or so but I have some ideas.

at the beginning of a combat; everyone could state their general goals; ie; my character is going to defend the priest and follow where he goes; then whenever you want to do something else; just say so. but as we dont really have a good way to plot out where everyone stands; we will have to have some general caviats; usually in table games; everyone brings a miniture and they are the only ones that move them so they are where they put themselves.

I liked this idea. Basically it provides a backup plan for those unable to post within a few days. On weekends I work 3 days which makes it difficult to post until the stretch is over. So for me, 4 days would be a good wait. We could maybe give you die rolls in advance as well which you could use to "fill in the moments" when folks can't post in time. You would have to make individual adjustments from the character sheets but this still might be better than nothing happening.

Also, I can't find any stats on cloth armor so I'm wondering about AC, armor check penalty, and whether or not it would interfere with spells.

With the ocean turbulence, I shall try and find something to grab on to in order to anchor myself as much as possible. I will look around the best I can and see if everyone near me seems to be as safe as they can be, if not I may consider attempting to help them reach safety (though with my small size I find it unlikely that I could do anything).

Sorry Valegrim, been at work which makes it difficult to post.

Here are my spot and balance roll results if still applicable.

Spot: 7 + 3 = 10

Balance: 19 + 4 = 23 (uncertain about cloth armor adj. so it isn't figured in).

I will fly upwards in an attempt to get an idea how the people on board those ships are acting. I don't really know how far away they are but my intent is not to close in and draw myself as a target, so at this point I will fly directly upwards staying above our ship. Does this improve my ability to see what is going on on the others ships?

I look around quickly to see if perhaps the captain or 1st mate is utilizing an instrument of some kind which would allow greater vision. If you feel it is questionable that I would be aware of such tools I wonder if a skill check of some sorts would be appropriate. If one such instrument is available I will quickly go over to that individiual. If you deem this beyond my knowledge I shall take to the sky.

Shrugging because I virtually understand nothing that the man has said thus far, I decide to go up on deck. Once I arrive, I'll fly up and look around. If anyone looks at me in an odd or friendly I'll just wave at them like a little kid might to a stranger. This sailing is a new experience and as long as I don't get ill, I expect to enjoy it. After looking around briefly, I'll fly to the front of the ship and settle down on my feet. I'll stick my head out into the breeze and take a strong inhale of the salt air. I'll look around in the sky for birds, then down in the water for fish, then back up in the air, then in the water. I'll then fly to the back of the ship and do the same thing. After that I'll go to both sides of the ship and repeat my curiousity. If anyone appears interested in me, I'll talk to them along the way.

I shall give the mattresses lying on the outer ends a looksie and select whichever one I think is in the best conditon. I'll place my belongings down on that mattress, look at the others and say:

"So any ye have an idea how longs its gonna takes us to get where we's goin?"

I turn to the Bosun and ask him....

"Exactly how many days a travellin will we have sir and can ye tell me exactly where we's headin? Will these be treacherous waters or sunny days ta follow? Are these waters full of dreaded sea monsters or the skies filled with avian lovely?

Satisfied that all is well, I shall flitter down to the ship and make my claim on a comfortable spot below deck.

Valegrim wrote:

Sure; you can take a 20 sometimes and you have the time; but my impression is that you were only going to look for a few seconds from your original post. It is nearly an hour before the tide goes out and the ship is very nearly loaded; they are just rolling on casts of fresh water and bins of charcoal at this point.

you see a large block of somewhat orderly mean wearing the ships colors coming towards the ship; about a hundred of them. They are about a 15 minute walk in the sand away from the ship.

Taking a few seconds was the original idea, I thought you were giving me the option of taking 10 or 20, sorry for any confusion. I'm assuming you meant "Men" not "Mean".

Do they look like they are armed? Are they walking in formation or rather casually? Do they appear to be soldiers or some other sort of people? Do they look like sailors? If so I'm expecting they are here to row the ship.

Okey Dokey then. I shall add those abilities to my character sheet. Thanks for the clarification. Any other things I am missing that your wondering about?

Sorry, I thought I emailed you the character. Maybe I didn't? I can fill out the profile either way.

There wasn't any mention of seeing invisible objects/creatures in the Half-Fey template so I assume not, it just mentioned low light vision along with these Half-fey abilities...

HD
1-2.........Charm Person at will, hypnotism 1/day, faerie fire or glitterdust 1/day

3-4.........Detect law 3/day, sleep or enthrall 1/day

5-6.........Protection from law 3/day, Tasha's hideous laughter r suggestion 1/day

I assume I have the abilities listed under HD 1-2 and 3-4 but not 5-6 correct? We never finished up some last minute questions or details. Of the abilities listed above apparently I get everything except when it says "or" then I choose. If you understand it the same way then I will take....

HD
1-2..........Charm Person at will, hypnotism 1/day and then between faerie fire and glitterdust I would rather have Glitterdust.

3-4..........Detect law 3/day, between sleep or enthrall 1/day, I would rather have sleep.

Is this allright?

hmm; would it be better if you take a 10? you can always take a 10 in these situations and sometimes a 20 if you take extra time; can you see invisible; please fill out your character profile sometime.

I left a post for you on the discussion thread so as not to go into rule questions here.

Its been so long since I have even thought about D&D much less look at a book that I forgot about those rules. Its also easy to forget when you not sitting at the table playing like normal.

Ok, I'll take 20 if I have the time. If the sailors are rushing to quickly to get our equipment onboard, then I will make it 10. My bonus if you need it is +3 for Spot.

Spot roll result is a 13.

If I understood you correctly we could make a Knowledge check even if we don't have the skill and it is trained only. If this is the case, I roll a 16 +3 for Int bonus = 19.

I hand the men my backpack and spear so they can carry it for me.

"Tis most kind of ye to carry me belongin's. Might I get a clean and open area on board ta make me'self comfortable?"

I then take flight and encircle the area from about 50' up just to look around to a several seconds. Do I see anything interesting or unusual that might catch my attention?

"Ugggg.....Well I should say I don't feel particularly well. Most definently not a proper way ta travel. Excuse me.....I thinks I'm going to be ill."

"I tis most honored and thanks ye kind sir for these gifts indeed shall bring about the end of such vile and ghastly creatures as well as keep ye party safe from the terrible trials and trubulations most certain to come. With that, let ye journey begin."

"Now Baelinor surely you wouldn't be expect'n the worse from someone so wee as me? Tsk, me feelings are hurt that ye feel the need ta tell the others ta be on guard."

"And Amber, now ye ain't got no get tough and all ruffled with me. Perhaps we could be best friends, No?" (places hand behind her back).

"ThoronHen, I say, never have I seen such a group of mistrustin mortals. Surely ye faith be misplaced. Looks like ye off to war are ye? And a nimble warrier I bet ye be."

"So tell me, what all has me Blarney Joe told ya? Something about I quest I hear."

Spins around twice, stops, stands on her toes and then down, whisks away some hair from her face, courtseys in her lovely purple and white dress, nods, and speaks......

"Alas, I have arrived. Greetings and the top of the day to ya all. Tis most honored to meet ye. Lshay be mine name. (Quickly places one hand behind her back) I tis most honored to meet ye all. Blarney Joe, would ye be kind enough to introduce these fine chaps to me so as I may become a bit more acquinted with them. I'm most anxious to get to know the lot of them."

Twirls her necklace around her finger, eyes each guest in turn as if she's considering them for something, gives a half smile and says in a quick and slightly snotty tone....

"What, ya never seen a girl before? Ye eyes are as big as buggers!"
