![]() Music is playing, the drinks are flowing and everyone has been having a real good time. Tony "The Tiger" Ruggiero sits behind a curtain away from the crowd, as he normally does, presumably entertaining whatever guests that he has back there. But the service is good, and the place is under his protection, so the cops tend to know not to show up. There has been, however, the rumblings of a rumour about Police Chief Leone sending undercover police officers to meddle in Ruggiero's affairs. Some of Ruggiero's men and patrons have even gone missing in the past couple of days. But surely they'll turn up, right? The police force would not resort to murder. Would they? This thought may be on everyone's mind as one of the bouncers quietly locks the door. Tonight, it's not the usual crew. Seems like fewer people about than usual, but there's still all the standard entertainment. So why not enjoy yourselves? Sometimes it pays to live every day like it's your last. Round 0 starts now! Round 0 will end Monday at 6pm MST, 0:00:00 Paizo time. Round 0 has no roles assigned, so that everyone can get familiar with their character and post in, and so I will have a hard number for participants. At the end of Round 0, I will post what roles are in the game and secretly send each player their secret role. I hope you all enjoy Meowselsworth's Speakeasy! ![]()
![]() I killed Chin the Conqueror. A horrible tyrant, Chin was expanding his army to all corners of the continent. When they came to the neck of the peninsula where we lived, he demanded our immediate surrender. I warned him that I would not sit passively while he took our home. But he did not back down. On that day, we split from the mainland.
It's Avatar Day in Republic City! Once a festival that painted the former Avatars in a negative light in memory of Kyoshi splitting Kyoshi island from the Earth Kingdom mainland, it has since evolved into a celebration enjoyed by thousands in the colonies all year round. Though many faces are smiling as they enjoy their traditional Avatar unfried dough and watch the many performers imitate the acts of the Avatars and tell their story, there is another more somber note. This is also the 16th anniversary of Avatar Korra's death. Nearly sixty years ago, while she was helping Prince Wu to establish a democratic system in the Earth Kingdom, she brought the idea of the festival to her home in Republic City. This was both to remember the past Avatars who she could no longer connect to and to bring traditions from the Earth Kingdom into a place that the four great nations could enjoy together. Sixteen years ago, though her health was failing, she held onto life to make the event a success before passing quietly in her sleep that night. While in life, Korra did not care for the celebration including her image, this year there are plenty of prizes, puppets and actors bearing her likeness in memory of the most recent Avatar. The Order of the White Lotus has shown up to this celebration en mass as well, since it would be the sixteenth birthday of the new Avatar, and the day that his or her identity would be revealed to the world. Jian Beifong, a Grand Lotus from the Order of the White Lotus, is present today to make that revelation. However, due to the contents of the letters that you have received from her, you know that things are not going to be going quite according to plan. You need to meet up with her soon, but you still have some time to look around at the festival. You have heard that there are figures attending who you may have heard about from your childhood, like the former Team Avatar: Asami Sato, the head of Future Industries and widow to Avatar Korra), Bolin, a powerful lavabender and former mover star, and Mako, Bolin's brother and retired chief of police. This is mostly so that you can dot the thread, but also to allow some initial roleplay if you wish to get the feel for your characters. I will play any NPCs or events that you feel like attending, and there are plenty of stories to hear from the performers and storytellers that are around. ![]()
![]() For some, prohibition has caused dampened spirits and economic hardship, but for others who are willing to skirt the law in the name of entrepreneurial spirit it has allowed them to amass a great fortune. Tony "The Tiger" Ruggiero is one of the bosses in this city who has become the wealthiest and the most unhinged. The cops have started an undercover investigation, but Police Chief Leone is in the pocket of another crime head. The chief has given his best crooked undercover cops some money to make sure that the rival crime family is taken out and all the rest in town are sent a message. Ruggiero caught wind of this, and has narrowed down who these undercover cops might be. Rather than simply kill all those with questionable loyalties, The Tiger likes to play with his prey. So they're going to play a little game... This is a mafia game. The mechanics of a mafia game is that every cycle, one member of the town (in this case, the criminals) is lynched by a democratic vote. One member of the town is killed by mafia (in this case, the undercover cops) every cycle based on a secret mafia vote. This continues until there is only mafia left, or all the mafia is dead. The special roles are assigned at random with no preference given. Roles (not finalized and I need to determine proportions in the population, though the Undercover Cop team will be 1/4 of the total population, rounded up): Criminals: This is the regular 'village' role in this game. Enforcer: This role is able to protect another criminal from an attack by the undercover cops. The Enforcer cannot protect his or herself. Scout: This criminal role is able to watch one person every turn. If that person is targeted by another person with a targeting role, the scout receives information on who targeted that individual, but does not receive role information. Targeting includes unsuccessful votes from the undercover cops. Bloodhound: This criminal role can deduce based on evidence what role another person is at 75% accuracy. Undercover Cop: This is the regular 'mafia' role in this game. Dirty Sleuth: This is an Undercover Cop who also possesses the Bloodhound power. Silencer: This is an Undercover Cop who also is able to target one other person and nullify all of their powers for one night round. ![]()
![]() From my recent-ish Beginner Box purchase, I've looked through the box just recently, and I've discovered that the Ogre on the sheet is bisected, and two troglodytes are cozying up with each other. I suspect that this is a printing error, where the ogre was supposed to be in the place the troglodytes are and the troglodytes found themselves on the ogre's roomy picture. I can provide photographic evidence of this if required. ![]()

![]() Any research or work in the station has screeched to a halt with Marco's body so thoroughly ripped to shreds. The recording that he left has made you believe that it's a good idea to lock the station down. Nobody will be able to get in or out until these... creatures are taken care of. It's hard to push back that lingering question, though... what should happen to humanity if the creatures take care of you first? Round 0 is a no lynch round. Please post at least one time before Monday, July 25, in order to qualify for role assignment. ![]()

![]() This is for Discussion of "Who Goes There?" Do not use this thread for strategy or to try and convince anyone of anything. If you ask me a question in PM, I will answer that question in this discussion thread so that everyone is playing with the same information on how the roles work. Since no roles will be posted until the end of Round 0, you can just ask in Discussion too. Since you don't know what role you're going to get, any questions you ask are not going to give anything away. ![]()

![]() Fire. Air. Water. Earth. When I was a child, my father told me of his travels with Avatar Korra. He told us that the age of Korra was one of great change and about how she brought back the Air Nation, defeated the dark spirit Vaatu and restored the connection to the spirit world. Even in the last decades of her life, Korra and her friends traveled across the nations in order to keep peace and to help their leaders make it a better place for benders and non-benders alike. As with all things, her time in this world has come to an end, and the cycle of the Avatar continues. It is now our responsibility to find and make sure the new Avatar has the guidance to grow into a legend. -Jian Beifong ![]()
![]() The research you've been assigned to do was not particularly glamorous, but you were part of an expedition to Antarctica, but you've found something in the ice that could really put your name in the history books! Evidence of life that has never been seen before! But after the ice was thawed, the biological matter within was no longer anywhere to be found. It's only been hours since, and the communications to the outside have been silenced. There is not enough time to repair them, as one among you has already been killed. Marco Rogers, a lab assistant, was found dead in the laboratory, body maimed beyond recognition. Only his name tag and a recording, starting with a one-sided conversation with someone he thought was another member of the expedition and ending in his screams of horror, remain to preserve his memory. You have reason to believe that whatever did this is impersonating a member (or members?) of the crew. The Thing that did this must be stopped. This is a mafia game. The mechanics of a mafia game is that every cycle, one member of the town (in this case, the researchers) is lynched by a democratic vote. One member of the town is killed by mafia every cycle based on a secret mafia vote. This continues until there is only mafia left, or all the mafia is dead. The special roles are assigned at random with no preference given. The geneticist: Thank goodness you took that option in university. Unfortunately, you don't have access to all the tools you need. Every cycle, the geneticist can test one person for their role. Only the geneticist knows the results of this. There is only a 75% chance of success. College roommates: You get on each other's nerves, to the point where you pick up on all of the other's idiosyncrasies without fail just to be annoyed by them. These members of the town know and can communicate with one another. If the number of players is equal to or less than 10, there are no roommates. 11-20: 2 roommates. 21-30: 3 roommates. Etc. Combat trained: You picked up some self-defense classes. You were g%+&~+n good at them. The combat trained person chooses one person per cycle to protect. That individual cannot be killed by creatures. The combat trained does not learn who was attacking, but does learn that an attack occured when defending. The combat trained individuals can protect themselves, but cannot protect the same individual twice in a row. There is one combat trained person if there is more than 6 but less than 15. There are two combat trained if there is more than 15. The creature: They make up 1/4 of the population, rounded up. They impersonate former members of the crew and are trying to murder them. The creature geneticist: Thank goodness that person who you are impersonating took that option in university. This character has all the powers of the creature plus the ability to use the geneticist's powers. This role only exists if there are three or more creatures. I'll mention more about nitty gritty later, because I'm all about nitty gritty. The players make up the world except for my flavour posts for the intro here! Have fun, your roles will be assigned quietly and randomly once recruitment closes. ![]()

![]() The town hall is in session, and the doors are locked. Nobody leaves until the mafia is gone for good... Sheriff Rastley is dead, and nobody knows who knows what, suspicion is thick in the air. Your best friend may want to stab you in the back, and the man you hate may be your greatest ally. This is what the mafia want, for you to be suspicious. But what choices do you have? You must be suspicious... or dead. Welcome to Meowselsworth's Mafia! The game is now in session! Roles will be sent shortly. ![]()
![]() Your town is under attack. What's worse, it's an attack from within. Some of your friends from the same tiny town might just be mafia. Mafia with a grudge against the town of Scrafton. You see, a generation back, one of the most highly skilled detectives lived in this town, and he had managed to get all of these criminals up in a noose. Now, you have to find a way to purge these criminals from the town as they seek revenge. There are rumours that before his death, Detective Rastley managed to pass all of his learnings down to a new generation of crime fighters. Hopefully they will be able to nip this problem in the bud... If not, it's rumoured that the town will be wiped out in this mafia rampage. Every day, the members of the town assemble in the town square to convict one of its members of membership in the mafia... a crime punishable by death. The mechanics of a mafia game is that every cycle, one member of the town is lynched by a democratic vote. One member of the town is killed by mafia every night based on a secret mafia vote. This continues until there is only mafia left, or all the mafia is dead. The special roles are assigned at complete random. The Detective: Every night, the Detective can investigate one person from the town. They have a 75% chance of finding out that person's identity correctly. 25% of the time, they find misleading planted evidence, and an innocent will investigate as a mafia member, or a mafia member will investigate as a member of the town. (There is one Detective plus one for every 11 players in the game.) The Blood Brothers: These members of the town know each other immediately upon sight. They know that they can trust their blood brothers (or sisters) not to be mafia. They have sworn an oath of loyalty to each other, but in public, may pretend not to know each other at all. (If there are less than or equal to 10 players, there are no Blood Brothers. At 11 players, there are 2. 21 players, there are 3.) The Vigilante: This masked individual makes sure others in the town are safe at night. The vigilante checks on one home every night, and if there are any unwanted visitors, the vigilante wards them off. If this happens, the vigilante does not learn the attacker's identity, but does know that an attack was made on that person. There are two vigilantes if there are 15 or more members of the town to start. The vigilante cannot protect themselves, but they can protect each other. The Mafia: The mafia makes up about a quarter of the town's population, rounded up. At night, they secretly decide on one person to kill. The Crime Boss: If there are three or more members of mafia, there is a Crime Boss who can break ties. The Butcher: The Butcher killed Detective Rastley in the first place, and was one of his secret apprentices. After being paid off handsomely by the mafia, he or she betrayed the Detective, but retained all of the learned skills... The butcher can investigate one person every cycle in the same way the Detective does, with a 75% chance of success. There is only a Butcher if there are 3 or more mafia. ![]()

![]() All of the guests are herded into the Meowselsworth Stadium for the time being, and there are many little kiosks and activity centers set up. There is also plenty of menacing looking machinery. There are many people in the crowd who are watching the present competition live, on the edge of their seats. The eyes of millions are upon you all. A pillar raises from underground, on the top of it is Mittens von Meowselsworth behind unbreakable glass. "Ladies and gentlemen and all other gender categories not included therein, this is the time you have been waiting for! IT IS TIME FOR MEOWSELSWORTH'S PRISONER DEATHMATCH EXTRAVAGANZA!" calls the Helmet Cat high up in the booth overlooking the arena. "Remember, anything goes in the Deathmatch, and most of all, entertain the viewers during this horrible blood and-slash-or gearbath!" Mittens leans into the microphone. "Welcome to our guests! In Alphabetical order:" Aaron Lockley
"Wowee, that is quite an impressive lineup of contestants that we have here! Among these contestants, we have the following composition!" 2 scanbots
"For our first round, this is a bit of a warm-up, a half practice round where nobody dies!" There is a collective groan of disapproval from the audience. "But there will still be fighting, you better bet your pants on it, cause everyone loves free pants from Hiney Jeans! First round Team Leader Competition: Petty Popularity Contest. Who can become the most popular the fastest? Let's find out!" In the first half-round, there will only be the Team Leader election. Vote for Team Leader as follows: Mittens votes Belugabreath for Team Leader For the first half-round, which ends on Monday at 6:00pm MST, there will be no vote for lynch. I will be posting the unabridged rules for each role in the Game info area when I am not super sleepy. If there are any rules questions, PM me, and I will answer them in discussion. ![]()
![]() "Hello ladies and gentlemen!" Mittens von Meowselsworth III nearly shouts into the microphone from a booth high above the competition grounds, the tiny helmet tuxedo cat having a booming voice that is known across planets as the announcer for all kinds of zany new reality television schemes. "It is my pleasure to bring you for the first time ever on television, Meowselsworth's Prisoner Deathmatch Extravaganza! Here's how it works: Our contestants, all death row inmates, are vying for their survival for the entertainment of you, our lovely viewers! Every deathmatch round, when the bell rings, our happy contestants start a competition, the end of which decides who gets to be the Team Leader, and who gets to be Team Loser! And not just that, but some of these prisoners are not prisoners at all. Some of these prisoners are, wait for it," and indeed, here Mittens pauses before enthusiastically almost singing into the microphone, "KIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIILLER ROOOOOOOOBOOOOOOOTS!" The crowd goes wild with applause. After the success of The Real World with Killer Robots, Killer Robot Shore and Big Killer Robot, popular demand has demanded more and more killer robots in their television. "Who could have asked for better reality television?" The opening credits start to roll showing the various roles involved, Mittens's voice played over the footage. This is a mafia type game, where each round the players vote to lynch one person, and at night, the killer robots kill one person. The goal is to eliminate all of the killer robots and earn your life back! Here are the roles that I'm thinking of including: "The Team Leader: Every round, the team leader is voted on by all the contestants as the one who exemplifies leadership for whatever task our darling friends are assigned! The Team Leader gets two votes and is immune to killer robot attacks! Wowee, now that's a title worth fighting for!" "The Snitch: The snitch is good at finding things out and ratting guys out. While he or she's not popular among our contestants at any other time, since the Snitch has been estimated 75% effective at figuring out a criminal's dirtiest secret, the Snitch might be able to eat like a king rather than sleep with them fishes!" "The Cat Burglar: Meow! You gotta love those sweet sweet felin- Wait, not actually feline?! What a crock of sh- Ahem, I mean. What a crock of lollipops, viewers! The cat burglar is stealthy as any feline, and can choose to watch someone every round. The cat burglar will see exactly who chose to use their powers on their target, but not what those powers are!" "The Hired Muscle: This guy or gal is tough as nails, but is he or she tough enough to tangle with a KILLER ROOOOOOOOOBOOOOOOOOT!? I don't know? Maybe? If the Hired Muscle decides to protect someone else from a Killer Robot attack, though, the person under his or her protection is as good as safe! Baralabaloom!" The crowd goes wild at the buzz word coined by Mittens in other reality television shows as it's exclaimed. "The Heisters: These people know each other from all those crazy capers that they got sent to death row for. OH YOU SILLY CONTESTANTS! Since they're buddy buddy, they are aware that neither one of them is a robot, and can speak in their secret buddy code. How neat!" "The Itchy Trigger Finger: I've never seen such a nervous nellie in my life! If startled, the Itchy Trigger Finger will shoot you in the face with a gun until you are dead! That's right, folks, don't try to protect, examine, or even killer robot this maniac, because this person is crazy crazy crazy about making sure all you privacy invaders are filled full of looking holes!" "And now, for what you've all been waiting for. It's time to tell you about our friends. THE KILLER ROBOTS!" "The Scanbot 6000: This bot can give you one filthy look and know what you're up to, up to a 75% success rate. Well, 75.04% according to the manual, but who the heck is counting, am I right? This robot is a dangerous opponent WHO KNOWS WHERE YOU SLEEP!" "The Sneakbot Model 2.0: The sneakbot can watch one person without being detected. If anyone investigates or protects the person that the sneakbot is sneaking on, SNEAKBOT WILL BLOW THEIR HEAD OFF WITH A FRIGGIN' ROCKET BARALABALOOM!" "Deathbot: The deathbot is just your standard ho-hum run of the mill deadly robot with an arsenal of covert weapons that can take a human being apart in 4 seconds or less, money back guarantee." "SO WHO IS READY FOR SOME SWEET SWEET MEOWSELSWORTH'S PRISONER DEATHMATCH EXTRAVAGANZA?" This roles list is tentative, and I will be balancing it according to the number of players who decide to join. No private messages will be allowed except for the Heisters, or the Killer Robots if they try to attack one another. Any violation of this rule will result in brutal dismemberment (but really, it's the honour system). |
