Init +3 | AC 16(13) | HP 26/26 | Saves: S+2/D+3/C+4/I+3/W+0/C-1 | Perc +2 | 2Wind: [X] | Surge: [X] | ArcRec: [ ] | Spells: 1st (1/2) | Insp: [ ]

I've got some bad news. For the past few months, my real-life circumstances have been shifting in such a way as to make it harder and harder to keep up with my PbP games. I kept thinking things would settle and I'd get back to the level of availability I had a year ago (or even six months ago), but it's become clear that my lack of regular availability is the new normal. It seems I can't even rely on my own lunch break as a chance to get my games updated (I'm actually pushing some things aside just to be able to tell you this).

Unfortunately, this means I'm taking a hiatus from all PbP gaming for the foreseeable future. I don't know if I'll get to try it again at all, let alone when that might be. Sorry I couldn't make it to the end. Thanks for the game; it was fun. :)

Init +3 | AC 16(13) | HP 26/26 | Saves: S+2/D+3/C+4/I+3/W+0/C-1 | Perc +2 | 2Wind: [X] | Surge: [X] | ArcRec: [ ] | Spells: 1st (1/2) | Insp: [ ]

Larissa advances, looking to finish off a wounded cultist if possible, or else move on to a weak-looking one.

Longblade: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21, Slashing Damage: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6

Init +3 | AC 16(13) | HP 26/26 | Saves: S+2/D+3/C+4/I+3/W+0/C-1 | Perc +2 | 2Wind: [X] | Surge: [X] | ArcRec: [ ] | Spells: 1st (1/2) | Insp: [ ]

Nice!

Going for a clean surprise, Larissa casts a spell in hopes of dropping the other guard.
Sleep: 5d8 ⇒ (5, 5, 5, 7, 4) = 26
So if the uninjured guard has 26 HP or less, he's asleep.

Larissa then advances toward her target.

Init +3 | AC 16(13) | HP 26/26 | Saves: S+2/D+3/C+4/I+3/W+0/C-1 | Perc +2 | 2Wind: [X] | Surge: [X] | ArcRec: [ ] | Spells: 1st (1/2) | Insp: [ ]

Definitely start with the two on watch.

Init +3 | AC 16(13) | HP 26/26 | Saves: S+2/D+3/C+4/I+3/W+0/C-1 | Perc +2 | 2Wind: [X] | Surge: [X] | ArcRec: [ ] | Spells: 1st (1/2) | Insp: [ ]

"Speaking of watches," Larissa replies, "I'll take second. First I need to rest and replenish my magic, which I can achieve in only a few hours."

I'll do my four-hour trance, then keep watch. Unless something changes, I'll then cast mage armor an hour before we're scheduled to leave and then take a short rest.

Init +3 | AC 16(13) | HP 26/26 | Saves: S+2/D+3/C+4/I+3/W+0/C-1 | Perc +2 | 2Wind: [X] | Surge: [X] | ArcRec: [ ] | Spells: 1st (1/2) | Insp: [ ]

"Are there many elves among them?" Larissa responds. "I would reach full strength hours before any human cultists, after all."

I figure that elf-trance ability has to be in the book for a reason, right? :D

Init +3 | AC 16(13) | HP 26/26 | Saves: S+2/D+3/C+4/I+3/W+0/C-1 | Perc +2 | 2Wind: [X] | Surge: [X] | ArcRec: [ ] | Spells: 1st (1/2) | Insp: [ ]

"I'm still drained of magic for the day," Larissa announces. "If it looks like they'll have to stop for the night before they reach cover, we could follow from a distance and then ambush them in the early morning after I've recovered my spells."

If feasible, my suggestion is that once night falls and they're camped out on the plains, I do my 4-hour elf-sleep to get spells back, then cast mage armor, then rest another hour to get that slot back via arcane recollection. Then we attack their camp at like 3-4am.

Init +3 | AC 16(13) | HP 26/26 | Saves: S+2/D+3/C+4/I+3/W+0/C-1 | Perc +2 | 2Wind: [X] | Surge: [X] | ArcRec: [ ] | Spells: 1st (1/2) | Insp: [ ]

I'm a bit confused as to the details of this plan, I'm afraid. Can we have a recap?

I'll take the cash too, just in case.

"Right then, thank you," Larissa says. She scoops up the scroll, orb, and jelly; then opens the chest, crate, and pouches to check their contents.

Init +3 | AC 16(13) | HP 26/26 | Saves: S+2/D+3/C+4/I+3/W+0/C-1 | Perc +2 | 2Wind: [X] | Surge: [X] | ArcRec: [ ] | Spells: 1st (1/2) | Insp: [ ]

Larissa's eyes scan over the uninspiring contents of the lady's vault. "Is any of this magical?" she asks bluntly. "And what is that green jelly?"

My thought is to start with getting the hostages out safely, then we can track/assassinate the guy later.

I could go either way, honestly.

We've gotten some healing, but I don't think we've actually managed to complete a short rest yet.

Larissa answers, "He split off on his own. We haven't seen him since then either." Is that right? Memory's fuzzy.

Happy to go eat and rest, if everyone else is.

Init +3 | AC 16(13) | HP 26/26 | Saves: S+2/D+3/C+4/I+3/W+0/C-1 | Perc +2 | 2Wind: [X] | Surge: [X] | ArcRec: [ ] | Spells: 1st (1/2) | Insp: [ ]

Larissa quietly begins removing the prisoners' weapons. When finished, she sits back against a wall and closes her eyes for a bit.

Are there bushes or something we could quickly hide behind, and that wouldn't be too far to drag Amber toward in time to evade notice from whoever's approaching?

Hoping she can trust her comrades to handle the fighting, Larissa rushes to Amber's aid.

I'll provoke an AoO to move to Amber, then use my action to try and stabilize her.

Medicine: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (11) + 0 = 11

Init +3 | AC 16(13) | HP 26/26 | Saves: S+2/D+3/C+4/I+3/W+0/C-1 | Perc +2 | 2Wind: [X] | Surge: [X] | ArcRec: [ ] | Spells: 1st (1/2) | Insp: [ ]

Can I in any way perceive that Amber is as close to death as she is?

Larissa joins in on the melee:

Longblade: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6, Slashing Damage: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13

...in spirit.

Same song, second verse: fire bolt and advance.

Fire Bolt: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22, Fire Damage: 1d10 ⇒ 1

ONLY LIKE 20 MORE HITS LIKE THAT AND YOU'RE DEAD MOTHERF#@&%R WHAT ARE YOU GONNA DO NOW

Damn, Conner's a machine!

Larissa stands up (again) and advances on the leader (again) and fires off a bolt of flame at him (again).

Fire Bolt: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14, Fire Damage: 1d10 ⇒ 3

Init +3 | AC 16(13) | HP 26/26 | Saves: S+2/D+3/C+4/I+3/W+0/C-1 | Perc +2 | 2Wind: [X] | Surge: [X] | ArcRec: [ ] | Spells: 1st (1/2) | Insp: [ ]

Larissa stands up, then begins advancing on the melee while she fires off a bolt of fire at the male leader in an attempt to end his spell.

Fire Bolt: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20, Fire Damage: 1d10 ⇒ 1

Okay, damage could've been better, but hey, the goal was a concentration check. :D

Init +3 | AC 16(13) | HP 26/26 | Saves: S+2/D+3/C+4/I+3/W+0/C-1 | Perc +2 | 2Wind: [X] | Surge: [X] | ArcRec: [ ] | Spells: 1st (1/2) | Insp: [ ]

Strength, eh? Alright, gonna try it. I'll try to land just past her, hemming her in.

Larissa, from her perch on the ladder, puts her feet to the granary and pushes

2d20 ⇒ (5, 14) = 19

Init +3 | AC 16(13) | HP 26/26 | Saves: S+2/D+3/C+4/I+3/W+0/C-1 | Perc +2 | 2Wind: [X] | Surge: [X] | ArcRec: [ ] | Spells: 1st (1/2) | Insp: [ ]

What would it take for me, from my perch up here on the ladder, to send it crashing down onto the lady?

Init +3 | AC 16(13) | HP 26/26 | Saves: S+2/D+3/C+4/I+3/W+0/C-1 | Perc +2 | 2Wind: [X] | Surge: [X] | ArcRec: [ ] | Spells: 1st (1/2) | Insp: [ ]

Larissa hustles up the ladder after the leader, trying not to let her get away.

Dash and climb up after her, getting as physically close as possible.

Init +3 | AC 16(13) | HP 26/26 | Saves: S+2/D+3/C+4/I+3/W+0/C-1 | Perc +2 | 2Wind: [X] | Surge: [X] | ArcRec: [ ] | Spells: 1st (1/2) | Insp: [ ]

I'm not sure if I get an action this round; was the spell during the leader's turn an ongoing thing, or just something long enough to keep me from getting an AoO as she left?

Init +3 | AC 16(13) | HP 26/26 | Saves: S+2/D+3/C+4/I+3/W+0/C-1 | Perc +2 | 2Wind: [X] | Surge: [X] | ArcRec: [ ] | Spells: 1st (1/2) | Insp: [ ]
Quote:
You used her shove to have her fall prone, and she fell 10 feet to the ground while you landed on your feet.

Wait, so she used half her movement to stand up from prone, used her action to cast a spell, then still had enough movement to half-speed-move up the ladder 25ft? So her move speed is 100ft? Or did I misunderstand something?

Init +3 | AC 16(13) | HP 26/26 | Saves: S+2/D+3/C+4/I+3/W+0/C-1 | Perc +2 | 2Wind: [X] | Surge: [X] | ArcRec: [ ] | Spells: 1st (1/2) | Insp: [ ]

Alright. I'll burn my Inspiration on this as well.

Athletics: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Advantage: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7

Balls.

Am I close enough to do a running jump-tackle on the leader, to try and body-clobber her off the ladder?

Init +3 | AC 16(13) | HP 26/26 | Saves: S+2/D+3/C+4/I+3/W+0/C-1 | Perc +2 | 2Wind: [X] | Surge: [X] | ArcRec: [ ] | Spells: 1st (1/2) | Insp: [ ]

Larissa pops out of her hiding place, launching a bolt of fire toward one of the kobolds. Working under the assumption of gaining advantage due to being unseen. Adjust if necessary.

Fire Bolt (ADV+5): 2d20 ⇒ (3, 17) = 20= 22
Fire damage: 1d10 ⇒ 10

Also, sorry for the delay. First I waited to see what others would do, then I had a pair of long posts in the games I'm running. :/

The hope here is that the enemy sees Amber coming and moves to engage, helping to close the distance faster while others among us sneak forward while their attention is focused on what they think is a small threat.

"Well, Amber," Larissa says quietly, "We could send you in screaming and flailing, providing a distraction while the rest of us advance."

Wait, I'm confused. We started at 3pm and it's now 6pm, which means we've spent three hours. Since no more than three minutes of that was actual action, we've basically done almost three hours of travel montages. Even if we were at normal walking pace (not running/hurrying), that means we've already covered several miles of distance. (Consequently, I concluded that each "segment" of town was a few miles across.) But now a quarter-mile walk risks tiring us out if we don't take it slow? Did I miss an important detail somewhere? Is this town a lot smaller than I thought it was?

Init +3 | AC 16(13) | HP 26/26 | Saves: S+2/D+3/C+4/I+3/W+0/C-1 | Perc +2 | 2Wind: [X] | Surge: [X] | ArcRec: [ ] | Spells: 1st (1/2) | Insp: [ ]

You can, and in many cases it will have a stronger effect. For instance, Cure Wounds heals an extra 1d8 for every extra level of the spell.

Init +3 | AC 16(13) | HP 26/26 | Saves: S+2/D+3/C+4/I+3/W+0/C-1 | Perc +2 | 2Wind: [X] | Surge: [X] | ArcRec: [ ] | Spells: 1st (1/2) | Insp: [ ]

"We don't have time to rest. I do at least still have these," Larissa says, pulling out her last two healing potions.

Unless someone protests our lack of resting, I'll chug the potions before leaving.
2d4 + 2 ⇒ (1, 3) + 2 = 6
2d4 + 2 ⇒ (2, 4) + 2 = 8

Init +3 | AC 16(13) | HP 26/26 | Saves: S+2/D+3/C+4/I+3/W+0/C-1 | Perc +2 | 2Wind: [X] | Surge: [X] | ArcRec: [ ] | Spells: 1st (1/2) | Insp: [ ]

Larissa's face darkens at the mention of cultists attacking the people's food supply. She wordlessly looks to her companions for assent.

If it's 6pm now, does that mean we've managed a short rest in there somewhere?

Init +3 | AC 16(13) | HP 26/26 | Saves: S+2/D+3/C+4/I+3/W+0/C-1 | Perc +2 | 2Wind: [X] | Surge: [X] | ArcRec: [ ] | Spells: 1st (1/2) | Insp: [ ]

Larissa quickly scans the bodies of the fallen, hoping to see one or two who might not yet be dead and could still be treated.

Anybody I could try to stabilize?

No worries; I hope whoever it is gets better soon.

Larissa closes in on the kobolds and swings her sword.

I guess I'm just shy of being able to reach the kobolds, so...

Larissa rushes in and hurls a bolt of flame at one of the kobolds.
Fire Bolt: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18, Fire Damage: 1d10 ⇒ 2

Init +3 | AC 16(13) | HP 26/26 | Saves: S+2/D+3/C+4/I+3/W+0/C-1 | Perc +2 | 2Wind: [X] | Surge: [X] | ArcRec: [ ] | Spells: 1st (1/2) | Insp: [ ]

Remember waaaaay back during the night when we spotted that guy asking if we'd killed the cultists? I was on watch because, as an elf, I had already finished my long rest after only 4 hours. I blew a spell on mage armor right then, but then when nothing came of it and everybody went back to bed to finish their long rests. But I'd already finished my long rest, so for me the second half of the night was basically just a short rest. So arcane recovery got my spell slot back that morning. (And as you know, I have since spent my two spell slots: one on a fresh mage armor at 3pm, and one to roast that rat swarm.)
