It was wonderful playing with you all. I had a wonderful time with what encounters we faced, and while I usually don't like dwarves, had a wonderful time playing one. I'll take my experiences with Korbin to future games at the table, and for that I thank you all.

With the matter of Grayst largely sorted, the dwarf remembered Midori had dropped unconscious over the fight. "Oh gods, forgive me, won'tcha?" Korbin's beard dances as he recites the words his patron had taught him.

Stabilize on Midori.

Korbin casts a second spell as she comes back to consciousness. "Ain't even seen a dwarven lass take hits like that before. Gods, on ya feet. Up for fightin' another, bigger ghoulie?" he says with a smile. The spell ends, and Midori's wounds begin to heal, the pain begins to alleviate.

Cure Moderate Wounds: 2d8 + 5 ⇒ (7, 2) + 5 = 14

The Dwarf rustled a large, stubby hand into his bag, pulling out a couple potion. "Take 'em, I got plenty."

Two CLW with a CL of 1, take them, I got seven more.

He leans in to inspect the body, removing King Crab from his shoulders. The Dwarf looks at Grayst, touching his flesh, giving a look to his ears, giving the man a small whiff. "Well, it ain't pretty, but the boy ain't lost yet." The dwarf looks to his Crab, checking his diagnosis with the familar. The crab bubbles softly, agreeing. "Keep the boy from flesh and we can keep 'em steady."

Korbin weighs his options for a cure. Hags and necromancers ain't too far and could fix this, but I hardly trust 'em far as I can throw 'em. There must be somethin'... King Crab bubbles, offering a solution to his master. Korbin pops up his brows, grinning slightly as he nods his head. "That'll work, me thinks.

"Short of killin' the boy, we gots another option. Find what did this to the boy, slay it, and keep Grayst on restoration in the mean time." Korbin smiles to Brin. "Full Ghoul is what we huntin'. Can all get behind a ghoul slayin', no? Save the boy, stop this happening to others, deliver a wee bit of Dwarven Justice?"

Nearest Temple we could have a Cleric sent here from? Does Sandpoint have a cleric good enough for that?

No worries, I actually learned grapple rules just for this Character. Wasn't too optimized so I figured I had to know how to use it.

What I don't know is if the CMB is my grapple CMB or just normal CMB. I'm away from home and don't have my books, so it's either +16, my grapple, or + whatever my CMB is (which I can calculate if you need, DM)

Conceivably, OoC, Grayst could only break out of a DC 36 on a twenty on his side. That is meta gaming, and not something Korbin or how I play Korbin will account for. Theoretically, I am stalling his rise only, and suggest we figure out what to do in the meantime.

I'd rather not kill him if we can avoid it. It might be part of the AP that he dies, but there is something to gain for having Grayst live.

As to not clutter up the gameplay thread, tie up does use a cmb+20. Hopefully this is proof enough as I don't have the books in front of me. Grayst is supposedly downed, so it isn't opposed by anything.

Right on the hair call, I was largely doing it for flavor. Regardless, tie up rules call for 20+my CMB, so 36. Correct me if anytihng is off, GM. And as he is unconscious, it is unopposed and don't call for Grapple to pin to tie up. As for if they are undead or not, probably, but it's not something I'd know. My previous check revealed late stages for ghoul fever, but not gone yet. Perhaps they passed, but it is OoC knowledge if so.

"If you or the others are worried for yerselves, then leave me with my patient. Ya found yerself a stubborn dwarf, and I ain't letting him die or ghoul without a fight. If you wanna stike him again, blade better go through my chest first." Korbin looks to Brin with an almost desperate look in his eyes. He had developed a respect for the half-giant over their brief adventures, but Korbin felt a need to halt this madness at least here. Korbin shifted his glance around the room. "Restoration potions, things for his health, anything you got hand 'em here."

Taking 10 on Heal, Familiar Aid Another

Heal: 10 + 12 = 22

Korbin unlatches his familiar's bag, spilling a bit of sea water onto the floor by Grayst. The dwarf puts King Crab on his shoulder. "Boy is regeneratin', ain't dead. Should be up in a few minutes or so. Kill 'em Brin and we got a problem, boys in my care now." Korbin looks over to the doctor. "Get me what you got for improvin' his resistance to ghoulification. Now, or we'll have you here next to 'em. And I doubt you can regenerate."

Korbin's hair begins to wind around Grayst, subduing the body. The hair wraps around him tightly, and ties itself into knots. He throws a coil of rope out to the floor, and begins to tie him proper.

Tie Up, DC 36 to Escape. Checking Grayst, diagnosing with a Take-Ten Heal (Total 22) for how far gone he is, when his next check is, current ability score damage if I can determine those.

Korbin cuts the hair off from his body with a foot-long metal device. Slowly, his hair extends back out. Korbin examines the man and hopes that it isn't too late for intervention. "We can question the boy like a man 'stead of a ghost or ghoul. Ain'tcha s'posed to be heroes of Sandpoint?"

When Grayst broke from the grapple, Korbin betrayed a bit of anger. Never had the dwarf failed to hold another down like this. He took a step back, concentrated his ki, and lunged forward. While he would prefer to do this without force, an unconscious Grayst was better than a dead one or a raging one.

The attacks ebbed and flowed like waves. As a hairy fist was sent towards Grayst, another was reared. As a fist recoiled, another launched.

Flurry+Ki, Declaring all attacks as Punishing Kicks. Each hit has a DC 16 Fortitude Save or he is knocked prone.

Korbin refuses the strike the man. His hair falls to the floor, crawling and forming almost rune-like circles beneath Grayst. With a flex of his core, the hair strikes upward, attempting to grab and subdue. Korbin braces himself and gives some slack to his beard. The dwarf didn't want to be sent swinging.

"No we don't, no he ain't! Boy ain't wicked yet!" Korbin retracts his hair and takes a solid stance. He takes sand from his spell pouch, holding it in his open palm. A voice of wisdom comes to his head and speaks in a language long forgotten. Korbin recites the words and blows the sand, casting his spell.

Korbin gives a glare to the two orderlies, jerking his head to beckon them. "Ya gonna help or just sit there?!" The dwarf thinks that the party should have it under control, but a couple more holding down the to-be Ghoul would assist in helping him look over the man and determine how long he has as a human.

Korbin immeadiantly lets go of the orderly. He attempts to give him a glare before rushing to Grayst. "Stand down, boy."

"Arms down, we can still help him!" Korbin grabs at the man, attempting to secure him with his beard. His hair stretches out, wrapping around the man. He attempts to hold back the arms of Grayst, trying to secure him without injury, trying to hold him back from Midori. The small dwarf tries to hold his ground against Ghoul-to-be.

Korbin gives a look to Midori. His eyebrows rise and his eyes widen. The dwarf looks for an answer to the man's response. Korbin edges forward, careful to try not to agitate the to-be-Ghoul. He moves with a strange, undulating fluidity. Like calm waves, Korbins ebbs forward taking short, nibbling advances. His hair flows with a cautious rippling. While his movements are calm, his eyes dart sporadically. He eyes Grayst, shoots to Habe, back to Grayst, to Grotus, back to Grayst. King Krab foams wildly, trying to communicate with Korbin to no success.

Starting Kracken Style, careful advancement to L14, Readying Action. Assuming combat isn't starting yet and this could be surprise round stuff.

"OI! AIN'TCHA A DOCTOR?!" Korbin's eyes are wild. His teeth are gritted together. His beard frenzies out upon seeing Grayst. "Boy has Ghoul Fever, ain't gonna last long." His beard shapes into two large fists.

Korbin makes steps towards Grayst. "Won't hear ya, Raf, close to being a ghoul now. Ghast maybe even, kid's big... Someone fetch a priest. Need someone to heal what's been done to him. Boy's under my care now, step aside." He gives glares to anyone that makes a step towards him.

"Grayst be the one we lookin' for." Korbin flashes his pin and a smile at the doctor. The pin is far shinier and cleaner than his teeth. "Only need a few words. Promise they'll be quick an' kind. Don't wanna be here longer than we need to." His beard is motionless and unassuming, aware of its place here. Korbin's eyes dart around the room, searching for anything off. Have ta check fer any signs of magic when he gives us a moment. Don't 'magine he'll be too kind for spells and chants...

"Never one fer rain," Korbin mutters, walking as quickly as his stubby legs take him. His beard returns to him, shooting out and grooming itself to look presentable. It bends around the Deputy Pin, knowing that the importance of the object. "Never say what ya just saw a second ago. Hairless dwarves bring bad luck, like thirteen black cats in a house o' broken mirrors," he says with a wink. He looks around briefly before spotting the sign. Korbin locates the cord and gives it a tug. He doesn't wait long before he pulls it second, third, fourth time. He lets go, taking a step back.

With his beard wet, he appears almost like a drenched dog. He retracts his beard completely, spraying a mist of water all around him as the hairs retreat back into his chin. He looks to his friends. "Sorry 'bout that."

At the sanatorium, Korbin waits for a response after Brin knocks.

The monk ensures that his deputy pin is polished and visible while reaching for the doors, hardly reaching them. He pushes on them. "Sheriff won't mind, we're on 'fficial business after all."

Korbin does not share the same nonchalant mood as Brin. Perhaps his time at the abbey made him all too disjointed with the terrors outside its walls. Soft even, he thinks. There was once a time when such horrors would be seen by the monk, acts by monsters and men that would keep him restless, wary, guarded. But these are fresh, in his mind, close to home. A wandering monk can keep to the road in the views of such acts, hide in his Abbey and meditate it away. A hero cannot. After a quick cast of Detect Magic and Detect Poison, Korbin turns from the bodies.

"We gots a couple stops more, ain't got the time to give a pause for the dead. We'll visit that Scarnettle bunch if these thread ain't takin' us somewhere."

Korbin's beard rustles, but he quells any other movements it tries. A pouch at his side hums lightly, King Crab is sensing it too. Somethin' is off, and playin' nice ain't doing what we need. Korbin takes a step forward, eyeing up at the man, gaze unwavering.

"Spit it out boy, I ain't got the patience like the others. Either ya tell us it all, or the Sheriff'll have ya without meals and we'll see how ya fare in a few days."

As his focus on halting the beard stops. the hair begins to crawl slowly, winding around Korbin like auburn ivy. It's twists into small braids is gradual, almost unnoticeable if not being actively observed.

Korbin smiles widely, beard wiggling as his smile stretches. He turns back to the party, popping his brow up. His eyebrows grow longer, independent of his will. "I understand." Korbin flashes his deputy badge to the guard as he takes a step into the cell. "Let's get a coupla' things steady though. Ain't one of these ones here. Know ya angry, but ya know it to be true. Barkin' threats ain't gonna make this right."

He takes a squat in the cell, placing himself between the party and Ven Vinder just in case. "We gotta right these wrongs before it happens to someone else. Katrine ain't alone. We need to find the bastard who did this an' make 'em pay. Vengeance ain't gonna bring her back, but it makes swallowin' it a bit easier."

He nods his head to the others. "My friends've been here a bit longer, know more of Sandpoint than I. I know they ain't who did this, if they were I'd have'em hangin' by now." Truth to these words, Korbin has seemed to gain a fair amount of trust for the party in the last few days. "Let 'em ask ya a few questions, we'll be on our way. And when we find this sonuvab!~$~, he'll face yer justice."

META: As for the diplomacy roll, as Vinder is dropping the highest, he has a pretty good shot of fudging this. He should average a 7.1 on his roll now, and unless he has a +5 to diplomacy (possible, though doesn't seem charismatic or too high leveled), I'd say even your natural 1 has a pretty good chance of success here for Diplomacy or Influencing him to Helpful if charm person works.

Korbin reaches into a pouch as he words of curses leave his tongue. He flicks a small bundle of black-hair to the ground, and it burns up as it falls. His patron tells him what words to say, what gestures to make, and Korbin merely follows.

Ill Omen on Vinder

Korbin starts a chant, planting his feet down, reaching his arms to the sky. As they come down together, his beard splits into two branches, rising at sharp angle. They hook downward, forming some crude, heart-shaped outline around Korbin's face. He finishes his spell.

DC 14 to Resist, Charm person on Mr. VInder. He rolls twice, taking the worst result. In addition, over the next 24 seconds, he has one more roll in which he must roll twice and take the worst result.

Korbin pauses, waiting to see if his spell was successful.

Korbin eyes the hanging body after examining the ax. "Poor son'uva... Ain't seen claw marks like this in me travels. And I've been the unwelcomed guest in many a cave. Man sized claws, too small fer a bear, too big fer a rodent... Five fingers too..." He inspects the tattoo on the hanging body. Poor taste in ink if ya ask me.

He goes outside and follows the tracks, eyeing the path that he believes to belong to the assailant. He approaches a footprint, removing a notched iron bar and rope from his bag.

Korbin twists the bar, snapping off pieces of it and reattaching to create a shear-like device. He places the rope next to the footprint, and cuts a little larger than the foot. He takes apart his tool, returning it once more to a straight, notched bar. From his bag he removes a torch now, lighting it. He lets it burn for a little while before quelling it out on the ground.

With the burnt-out torch, Korbin sears both ends of the rope, ensuring it will not untangle and stay fixed to its current length. "Less we got a shifter, this may prove useful."

Dun' need to be a braggart, folks already recognize us. Korbin speaks in murmurs to himself, moving his arms and hands. Afterwards he keeps his concentration, looking around the mill. He does it again, different words this time. While he casts his spells he is largely silent.

Gained Iron Mountain Ability:
At 5th level, a monk of the iron mountain can deflect blows with an active defense that complements his bastion stance. If the monk starts and ends his turn in the same space, he gains a +2 shield bonus to AC and CMD until the start of his next turn. As a swift action, he can spend 1 ki point to increase this bonus to +4.

Gained Hungry Ghost Ability:
At 5th level, a hungry ghost monk can steal ki from other creatures, though this ability is controversial in some circles of monks, who see it as nothing less than a form of vampirism. If the monk scores a confirmed critical hit against a living enemy or reduces a living enemy to 0 or fewer hit points, he can steal some of that creature’s ki. This ability replenishes 1 spent ki point to the monk’s ki pool, as long as the monk has at least 1 ki point in his pool. He cannot exceed his ki pool’s maximum. At 11th level, each time the monk successfully steals ki, he can make an immediate saving throw against one disease he is suffering from. There is no penalty for failing this saving throw. The monk gains a bonus equal to his Wisdom modifier on the saving throw.
