Since the group gets a good night's sleep before leaving Fort Rannick and they know that they'll be hustling to Turtleback Ferry the next day, Isabella strikes up a jaunty but staccato tune on the way. Something about the tune keeps feet up and spirits high during the lengthy slog through the mud.
Casting marching chant, which allows us to hustle without accumulating additional fatigue, which in turn should get us to Turtleback Ferry by nightfall without force marching.
By the time the group reaches the Turtle's Parlor, Isabella is well and truly done with keeping on the magical tune. Though the spell bolsters her to keep singing as long as she focuses on it, eight hours of walking concentration still isn't easy.
She gratefully accepts a mug of a local warm beverage to soothe her throat and nurses that for a while before she, too, decides that she'd best have a bath and a chance to clean her garments.
She heads for the baths just as Kizzy is getting out. Stifling a yawn, she says, "Kizzy, I'm a little worried about all this rain. It's going to come down the mountain and straight through the valley here. You or anyone know how to pilot a boat, just in case?"
Anyone else want a side RP scene?
"There are those who might believe that a Valdemar leaves his mother's breast straight into a life at the Rusty Dragon and the Pixie's Kitten. Not so. Noone sees the early mornings, fishing in the rain, the brutal cold of the end of season. Not sure that it makes me a fisher or a captain, but I logged the time. When my parents were taken from me, at least there was no talk that I hadn't earned my name."
Konrad pauses for just a moment, "My father used to say that a little tain was good fro the soul. As a child, I had always assumed he was speaking of the fish."

I needed to focus on my family and our employees, but you all focused on saving Sandpoint. All this group seems to do is save Varisians. There are far worse things to do with one's time, and I know this because I've done them, well, most of them. I would be proud to travel with you."

"I think you are correct, but the truth is, I should aslo go to Ilsurian; while my family will hear the news of Fort Rannick when it arrives in Magnimar, I should send them a note also."
Konrad smiles at the group
"Hard to say if my decision is opportunism or simply pragmatism, but that note will include my intention to accompany Sandpoint's friends and neighbors, the liberating force of the Fort, as they look to solve the threat to the area."
Konrad then looks a touch pensive, "So the real questions become what's after Ilsurian ... and will Zherxikas' familiar bring word from Magnimar."

LOL well I pretty immediately wrote to IP and asked if that included "me too"
But I also think that because it was only mentioned here in discussion, even though there were a few responses, it got lost in the discussion of the distance to Ilurian: LINK

They could also pick up the diamond dust and whatever else we need in the short term.
Yep, someone did. Spent a boatload of money on 4x Flying Ointments, 1 of which was already used in the battle. But yeah, Konrad has 3 left.

The library has important documents about the Black Arrows, atlases, and bestiaries of the hook mountains. (study in the library gives +2 history, nature, and geography checks for the Hook Mountain area)
Worth 50gp to a "merchant" also: Konrad will gladly part with 5pp to take the map of Riddleport if that is okay with everyone :)

So, yes, I would love anything that could raise Konrad's Dex, absolutely.
At the end of the day, Konrad is actually a rogue at heart, but he's hidden that behind the investigator class. His spellcasting is actually psychic (Psychic Detective Archetype), and THAT allowed him to meet the prerequisites for one of the two Prestige Class Archetypes: the Thought Thief. How cool is that!?
To me, it's outrageously cool, and while there is a little scrubbing I need to do when I export him from HeroLab (a couple abilities are not quite the same as an Arcane Trickster), it's possibly one of the coolest most useful builds I've ever put together.
Thanks for letting me try it out, I really appreciate it!

Popping a jawbreaker into her mouth she adds, "Much sweeter, and who doesn't like sweets?"
She offers a jawbreaker to Konrad with a raised eyebrow as if asking if he would like one. She has a mighty big bag full of them.
Runt is a small person. Very small. She has dwarfism.
She is about 3' tall, overly muscular, and has a pleasant face though her hair is a mess. Wearing a helmet and camping for days does something really scary to a perm.

Without a gesture being gestured or an incantation being incanted, the jawbreaker rises from Runt's outstretch hand and flies to the waiting lips of the Varisian.
"Probably couldn't have sold me on carry sweets into battle 20 minutes ago either, but after a month in the forest, I need to be honest, this is almost like being back in civilization. Thank you!"

She offers a bow with the flourish only a stage performer can give, While there are no more ogres, there do seem to more of "us", she looks at the newcomer. Greetings, I am Kizzy Ilionescu. Who might you be, and more interestingly, how did you wind up here helping us? Then she adds with her usual impish grin as an aside to Z, I assume he is helping and you aren't a hostage or something right?
"Funny thing that ... here I was, on my way home, got turned about in the rain, and then suddenly there was a beacon!
The young man smiles at what was clearly a jest. He appears to be in his mid-twenties and there is absolutely something naggingly familiar about him, like a regular you'd know from the bar but never met. His dark brown hair, even wet from the downpour, seems to want to cover his eyes, which have an odd glimmer like enchanted amber.
"Truth be told, it wasn't a beacon, I think it was a fireball, and I wasn't actually on my way home, I was asleep, having decided for about the 27th time that I would NOT in fact, go home to Sandpoint just yet." He smiles again.
"Konrad Valdemar, at your service Miss Ilionescu, and no, not a hostage of your colleague, only of my family. My being here has been a punishment, a banishment, and most certainly a lesson; but my grandfather would tell you it is a trade investigation. I am glad that you are here. The attack was sudden and overwhelming; the Black Arrows deserved better than this."

oh you mean Konrad ? cuz I was scanning back through looking for an enemy mage.... or ogre magic. If so, not really... he hasn't fired at me, nor the team, and did fire at some ogres with magic missiles, so he must be down to almost no magic left too..
3 strikes and we're out, right?
If it isn't a thing, then it isn't a thing.
Combat can end at some point and Konrad can either fly back to Sandpoint or introduce himself again. The character is cool even if only for a cameo ;)

@Konrad: Z cast fly after the fireball, you theoretically cast fly after the fireball. Therefore I made them equal. Since we hand waved your movement from the woods into the fort I thought it a close approximation.
Ah, okay, I didn't think it was a hand=wave.
I thought we discussed it was Overland Flight and was going to last 9 hours or so ...

I am going to add names to the tokens to help Konrad see who is who.
Thank you!
Just FYI - Ointment is based on Overland Flight so duration should be 9hrs, not 5min
Let me just find the casting level for MM
EDIT - Konrad sees an Ogre attacking someone who looks like they're about to cast a spell; he stops in mid-air to cast Magic Missle at it.

Spoiler:
27 days.
27 days, holed up hoping against hope that Fort Rannick could be liberated.
27 days of shitty rations, shittier weather, and the ongoing casting of prestidigitation so that he didn’t have to smell like s*^t on top of everything.
27 days of hard times to be sure.
But Valdemars tough it out, and they sure as hell don’t show weakness.
Sure as hell don’t show it in front of each other either, but the point was to uphold the family name.
The blissful ignorance of the masses belied life’s basic truth; being from a "family" in Sandpoint wasn't always sunshine & rainbows.
Heading back to Turtle Ferry would have been a tail-between-the-legs move, no way that was happening; he wanted to, but he hadn’t yet. This mission was the best smokescreen he would never have thought of, so a little longer away from Magnimar & Sandpoint wasn’t going to hurt him.
Well, the time away wouldn’t hurt, the rations might.
Fireballs created a LOT of noise and Konrad woke … to a LOT of noise.
Someone had made a lot of noise over in the Fort, and it sounded very much like a fireball.
Actually, it sounded like 2 of them.
It was time!
He quickly glimmered away the sleeves of his bodysuit and applied the ointment up and down his arms; he took flight as soon as his shoulders were coated. He sighted the smoke rising from the fort, and sped towards the flames hopeful to help. Many had died here, but not in vain …

I am "fellow player" - and my character, Konrad, is from Sandpoint.
This is possibly one of the coolest characters I have ever developed, and there have been a few, but I actually had no idea there were Prestige Class Archetypes until I started working on this. There are only TWO.
Konrad is a Thought Thief, an Arcane Trickster based on Psychic Magic.
Not a bad guy overall, any of you could have met him already. Friends with Amiko, generally fun, if a little cranky about how weird his grandfather is, and generally a little pompous about Magnimar, even if everyone knows he's a much bigger fish in a much smaller pond when he's in Sandpoint. His "specialized" skills aren't common knowledge in Sandpoint though.
