With Roke's announcement, Kazmuk approaches the fey and pick the ring from his pouch, still wrapped in a piece of silk. "Come and see, little frriends..." he then unwraps the silk to reveal a ring made of gold and small precious stones. On the center, a small sapphire and emerald are circled by smaller stones. "The sapphirre rreprresents the sky ye fly and also Perrlivash's beautiful scales, vhile the emerrald rreprresents the forrest ye live in as vell as Tyg-Titterr-Tut's translucent wings... these six stones surrroundin the biggerr stones rreprresents us, makin' this a gift to seal ourr alliance and frriendship."

Will wait for them to answer Roke before Kazmuk gives them the ring... I imagine the will, like children gaining a new toy, completely forget everything else.

As Kazmuk finally finishes his work, he takes a moment to close his eyes and tries to absorb all the sounds around him, focusing mainly on the sound of his workers on the forge, the rhythm of the hammers and stone serving as focus for his prayers. He dedicates his work to the Forgefather, knowing that if he was able to finish such a fine work, it was only due to His grace and guidance.

He then wraps the ring in a piece of silk and stashes it in his pouch. If the others ask him to show the ring, he shows it, but he doesn't gloat about his work, even if he accepts compliments of his work.

Master Kazmuk...How fares the ring?...and the forge?

Already expecting such questions, Kazmuk shows the others his progress in his craft, starting with the detailed draft he had shown Akiros a couple days ago. "It is not finished yet, but I'm almost done... herre take a look." The ring is intricate and according to the draft it will bear 8 stones: two larger blue and green stones to represent Perlivash and Tyg respectively, and 6 smaller red stones to represent the party. The stones are already cut to the appropriate size and most of the ring is already shaped to hold them.

"About the forrge, ve have starrted the heavy vorrk thrree days ago and it vill take me men at least two morre veeks o' vorrk... most like two veeks and a half."

"Ahhh... that sounds like a good plan at least. What are you doing back here alone? Your forge is enough for you so you decided to stay?" Akiros says this to Kazmuk good naturedly, knowing that there must be a good reason he has stayed behind.

Kazmuk laughs at the man's joke. "It could be, it could be, forr I love to honorr Him vith me vorrk. No, me frriend, I'm forrging a beautiful rring, and the forrge is not finished yet, anyvays. Come, I'll show ye!" He invites Akiros to follow him to his improvised worktable. Once he does, he shows him a parchment with a very detailed draft of the jeweled ring he has been forging for the fey. "Ve have found currious fey frriends in the voods last veek and I have been able to make a alliance vith them and this verry rring vill symbolize such arrangement."

"In rreturrn forr this rring, they vill serrve as ourr eyes and earrs in the voods."

Kazmuk walks out into Oleg's courtyard. Akiros is talking to Oleg and his men are coming over to him. Looking up Akiros calls out to Kazmuk, "Master Kazmuk, where have Andreas and your companions gone?"

"They have venturred once morre into the vilds tovarrds the Sootscale kobold mine. They arre trryin' to convince an untrrustworrthy rrace to make and honorr a contrract... if this ends up vell, I'll have a tale of kobold honorr to tell me kin... if it does not, I'll have dozens of tales of kobold mischief to tell Sirr Andrreas instead." "I'll consult some books o' mine and ask arround. I'm surre ve'll be able to make it vorrk."

Once we level up, I intend for Kazmuk to take a level in Profession (architect) that might be helpful!

We have some decisions to make...We could travel to the Sootscale Tribe and finalize these negotiations. We know the area from here to their home and it would not take more than about three days travel. Maybe a day to talk of trade and then another three days back. This of course would be after Zade finishes his contracts. During that time we could get some work in on the defenses before leaving. Kazmuk could work on the ring while we are gone. We would take Master Henry and Mistress Yennifer with us of course. The rest of the guards and troops should remain behind to aid in the defense and could also help with repairs.

Kazmuk agrees with Andreas's plan. "This might indeed vorrk."

If Kazmuk stays behind to work on the ring while the rest of the party goes making the deal with the kobolds, they would indeed have to return to pick him once it is done, otherwise he would miss a lot in game terms if you keep exploring.

As far as I know, Kazmuk has the necessary tools to forge the ring even without the forge being finished (considering he has an anvil, artisan's tools and gold has a not so high melting temperature). However, to craft it he would not be able to do anything else during these 12 days.

The forge will take 20 days to be built, but Kazmuk does not need to be present, for his workers will do the job.

If we don't want to wait until Gozran 14 for Kazmuk to finish the ring, I believe we can divide this time in 3 4-days sessions of work and if we encounter our fey friends during this time, Kazmuk could perhaps do some diplomacy and show the work-in-progress of the ring to them.

Male LN dwarf cleric (forgemaster) of Torag 3 | HP: 30/30| AC: 20 (11 Tch, 19 Fl) | CMB: +4, CMD: 15 | F: +7, R: +2, W: +6 | Init: +1 | Perc: +6, SM +9 | Speed 20 ft. | Spells: 2nd - 3/3, 1st - 2/4 | Active conditions: aid, lead blades.

Kazmuk will send a word to then hire a team of craftspeople (miners) for 200gp, two teams of laborers for 70gp each and a team of guards for 100gp, for a total expense of 440gp. All of them will be dwarves from Brunderton!

The time it will take the letter to reach them (Brunderton is about 80 miles North from Restov) and for them to make the trip to Oleg's needs still to be determined by the GM. From the point they receive the letter, it will take at least 2 days for them to organize themselves (maximum recruiting time of these teams).

Also, how will we be spending before going out once more? It will take Kazmuk 12 days to forge the ring for the fairies, but if you wish to leave before that, I believe he can show his "progress" to them in order to prove he is working on it.

To Andreas

Kazmuk smiles, more than happy to talk about good and mundane work. "It vill yet take some good amount o' time. Me craftsmen have already done some preparations these last five days, but it vill take three morre days beforre the actual vorrk begins (still need 3 Labor units) and I have some arrrangements vith Oleg (to get 1 Influence and confirm he will provide the 9 Goods units)." He then rubs his beard, making some calculations. "After that, if everrythin' goes rright, the main forrge should be done in about three veeks (20 days)."

"A prroperr smithy vould still need at least an office and a couple storrage rroms, vhich vill take at least a month to be built, but the forrge vill be done in three veeks."

"The rring I'll make vill be a beautiful vorrk and considerring ve arre dealin' vith fey, I vant to be surre to prresent them vith a trrue vorrk of arrt in orrderr to not displease them. To make such a rring, I already have the tools and since I've brrought vith me me anvil, I need not to wait forr the forrge to be done beforre I starrt vith me vorrk." He once more strikes his beard making some calculations. "I believe I can finish such gift in less than two veeks, but such a fine vorrk is rrealy difficult to prrecise... (Taking 10, it will take him 12 days to finish it)"

Talking with everyone

Once Andreas talks about making deals with the kobold, Kazmuk is a bit reticent. "To us, dvarrves, kobolds arre on the same categorry as goblins and orrcs: crreaturres cerrtainly not to be trrusted and prreferrably to be killed if possible."

"I trrust the visdom o' me people, forr such knowledge vas not gained frrom isolated experriences, but frrom the continuity of the trreacherrousness o' such evil beings. Therreforre I'm against such arrrangement. I say ve use the varriors ve have and get those crreaturres out o' the mines as soon as possible... Hum... it appears I made a confusion!

The rules I'm speaking about are on the bottom of the Craft skill page under the name of "Making Craft Work [Alternative Crafting Rules]" and the I've always thought they from the unchained book, since these rules makes a lot of sense to me. However, I now checked again and discovered they are a 3rd party content.

The Unchained alternative crafting rules can be found HERE. Reading through them, it appears they streamlined the process a bit but not that much. Under these rules, Kazmuk would still take 12 days(!), which seems a lot, but I have no actual knowledge about how much time it really takes to make a nice ring.

Let me know your thoughts on these rules.

Male LN dwarf cleric (forgemaster) of Torag 3 | HP: 30/30| AC: 20 (11 Tch, 19 Fl) | CMB: +4, CMD: 15 | F: +7, R: +2, W: +6 | Init: +1 | Perc: +6, SM +9 | Speed 20 ft. | Spells: 2nd - 3/3, 1st - 2/4 | Active conditions: aid, lead blades.

Working on a post, but since Andreas asked how much it will take for Kazmuk to make the ring, I'd like to request for us to use the crafting rules presented on the unchained book, since the basic rules are poorly thought IMHO.

I'll explain. Let's say Kazmuk will be true to his word and will make the fey a really beautiful ring worth 100gp.

Normal crafting rules

First we transform the 100gp in silver pieces for determining the target number of 1000.

The ring's DC is 15 (high-quality item) and Kazmuk will try to craft it as fast as possible, adding +10 on the DC for an accelerated crafting. Every day he can cast crafter's fortune for a total of +16 on his check. Taking 10, it will get him a total of 26 against the DC of 25.

However, he can attempt a check once/week, so by the end of the first week his progress will be 650 (25x26) out of the 1000 so he will take roughly two full weeks of work to finish his work.

Unchained crafting rules

The first difference is that the final price of the item is irrelevant, only its complexity.

I believe a ring is probably simple or moderate in complexity, but let's say Kazmuk wants to make something remarkably detailed and say the item is complex. According to the table, a complex item has a 'time unit' of 4 days and a DC of 18.

If Kazmuk's check is a success, he will be able to craft the ring in 4 days. However, Kazmuk is pretty good in it and with his result of 26, he beats the DC by 5 and thus reduces the time required by half, so 2 days.

TLDR: Under the normal crafting rules, Kazmuk will take 2 weeks to make the ring, while under the unchained rules he will take only 2 days.

Following Gird, Kazmuk makes a quick prayer to the Forgefather in order for him to bless his companions, followed by another one, more rhythmic one that emulates the sounds of the forges as his hammer becomes heavier.

Casting bless on everyone and extended leaden blades on his hammer.

Kazmuk knees and cleans the head of his hammer on the orc's clothes before moving towards Gird, while securing his hammer on his waist. When he reaches Gird, Kazmuk makes a quick prayer to the Forgefather for a healing blessing. "Kärsivällinen, pyydän sinulta vielä kerran siunauksesi. Ole hyvä, paranna tämä mies vammoiltaan, sillä hän on taistellut sinun kansasi vannonut vihollisia vastaan."

Dwarven:
"Forgefather, I ask You once more for your blessing. Please, heal this man from his injuries, for he has been fighting the sworn enemies of Your people."

Since Kazmuk will act after both Pink and Yellow, I'll post two action, based on their action...

If they approach

Dropping his heavy crossbow on the ground, Kazmuk draws his hammer while moving towards the closest enemy (or draws and 5ft. step if thet are closer) and attacks.

Attack (warhammer), aid: 1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 5 + 1 = 18
Damage: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (6, 4) + 2 = 12

If they remain distant

Wishing to goat them into a fight, Kazmuk approaches them, dropping his crossbow and drawing his hammer in the process. He then assumes a defensive posture.

In this scenario, AC 24 until next round.

Much like Gird, Kazmuk steps out of his cover to fire from his heavy crossbow.

Attack (Heavy Crossbow), aid: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 4 + 1 = 13
Damage: 1d10 ⇒ 7

Temp HP from Aid: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8

As they wait for the orcs to come to them, Kazmuk asks the Forge Father his blessing in combat.

Will be casting Aid (lasts for 3 minutes) and extended lead blades (lasts for 8 minutes).

Sorry for the delay. I'm also in favor of option 2. I'm afraid that some of them might escape and having lots of trees would diminish our chances of hitting them in ranged combat. Kazmuk would like to cast some buffs before the combat begins... how many rounds would we have before the combat to cast (in a way not to give our position)?

Kazmuk nods in agreement. "This is too good an opporrtunity to pass, I think, even if somevhat rrisky. Ve need to be fast though."

Kazmuk also votes in ambushing the orcs.

Kazmuk nods in agreement to Gird's statement. "Indeed, Lorrd Medvyed. Ve should keep vatch in all dirrections: to the orrcs, to the outpost, and also to the dirrection a potential rreinforrcement to the orrcs is morre likely yo come..."

I believe we have little to do until we get some signal from Andreas/Roke. With a diminished party, we have nothing to do but wait.

Kazmuk steps forward hoping to avoid the situation to escalate. "Ya should forr surre talk about this, forr I've notice ya two have strrong opinions about each otherr, but herre and now is neitherr the place norr the time forr it!"

"If ve arre to be discoverred by the orrcs, I'd be ashamed if the rreason is that ve'rre bickerrin' to each otherr..." He then turns to Andreas first. "Sirr Eisfalke, along vith Lorrd Medvyed and Lorrd Lebeda, ya have the birrthrrigh to lead us, so I humbly advise ya to do so. If ya have a plan, I'll follow it, but ya can't ask us to follow you and then turrn yarr back and say ve should come up vith somethin'." Then, he turns to Rillka. "Miss Rrillka, as me motherr taught me, ya can't have yarr cake and eat it too. If ya vish forr Sirr Eisfalke to lead us, ya can't challenge all his plans and orrderrs and underrmine his authorrity. "It is not my place to lead. I'm forr surre no leaderr, neitherr by rright norr by vocation. I'm an adviserr and this is vhat I do. If I disagrree vith a courrse o' action, I advise against it, orr about a better vay to do it, but in the end, I'll follow vhat me leaderr have decided."

"Past experriences could be an advantage, but also could blind us to neverr solutions. Kazmuk explained their options as the others talked.

"Ve can not, howeverr, be bound and blinded by ourr lack o' options. If ve believe therre is an arrmy closin' by, ve need to do somethin' now, forr not doin' so vould be to doom all those inside." He then turns to Gird. "Lorrd Medvyed... do ye believe ye could sneak the orrc camp and contact Oleg? Ve vould be vatchin' ye, so if ye arre discoverred, ve'd also join and rrescue ye. Kazmuk ponders for a couple minutes before offering his advice. "Frrom the trracks ve have alrready learrnt that these orrcs have arrrived herre at least one or two days ago... and have not attacked yet. This is not the vay o' the orrcs. Therre is a rreason forr the delay... orr they arre vaiting forr morre o' their kind, orr Oleg's is just too forrtified forr this small band to attack."

"The decision we'll be makin' vill be based in vhat is ourr objective. Do ve vant to eliminate the orrcs once and forr all? Do ve vant to ensure none in Oleg's get hurt? Vhat do ve vant? By cirrcumventing the camp and joinin' Oleg, ve'll rreinforrce the post, but perrhaps it'll scarre the orrcs and ve'll have to hunt them once morre, perrhaps in disadvantage." He points out. "Howeverr, if ve attack them now, ve we'll pincerr them between us and Oleg. Kazmuk smiles and nods. Unsure where to bow, he does so in three different directions. "Verry vell, the next time ve rreturrn to Oleg's, I shall forrge such rring, a symbol of ourr frriendship."

Approaching Rillka, Kazmuk decides to offer her some advice, measuring his words in order not to offend her. "Ve, dvarrves, see a couple things differrently than the humans orr even ya, the small folk, and certainly a lot o' things differrently than the elves. Many say ve arre like stone: blunt, and they arre not vrrong. One thing that is very clear to us, is the idea that absolutely nothin' is frree, even if seems to be. I'll explain, if ya allow me..."

"Ve believe ve alvays have to pay somethin' in orrderr forr us to gain somethin', and the visdom lies in knovin' if vhat ya arre paying is vorrth vhat ya arre receivin'." He makes a pause before continuing. "If ya have feelin's forr someone, ya give herr gifts, orr attention, orr love, in rreturrn o' herr love and attention... if ya vant a house, ya vorrk forr it... if ya vant frriends, ya give yarr time, and so on and so forrth."

"Applying this thought to ourr situation, I believe a rring is a fairr prrice forr these fey crreaturres. Ve do not know these lands. They could be alone herre, a minorr thrreat, orr who knows, citizens o' a huge faerrie kingdom hidden in the voods. Since ve do not know, it is betterr to choose to be frriends vith them, and to be frriends, ya need to give them yarr attention, yarr time. If they vill accept a gift, in me case, a rring, it is a fairr prrice, is it not?" He smiles, thinking he had made his point. "By ecomin' theirr frriends, vill ve only rreceive safe passage, orr somethin' morre? Inforrmation, perrhaps... or a tip o' grreaterr trreasurre that might be important to us yet irrelevant to them?" He poses these questions before adding some more. "On the other hand, if ve attack them, vhat vill be the prrice ve'll have to pay in the futurre? Vill it be cheaperr than a rring?"

"I'm in agrreement vith givin' the potions as gifts... gifts, not brribe, forr ve arre trryin' to make frriends, arre ve not?"

He then ponders before making another offer. "Mysterrious fey... me name is Kazmuk, a gifted arrtist of metal, if ya vill allow the self compliment. If ya accept, I'll make ya a beautiful rring, even if it vill take me some time. Tell me vhat you like and the size ya vant. The next time ve meet, I'll gladly give it to you, but in exchange ve arre frriends, so no trricks and no play vith us. How that sounds?"

"And vhat such offerrin' should ve offerr?" Kazmuk asks unhappily. As a member of a more stern race, Kazmuk was generally not fond of jokes involving himself and he imagined 'fey play' was equally distasteful.

He then takes 2 coins of each metal from his purse and places it besides Gird's offered food. "Perrhaps some shinnin' metal?"

Having no stand in the agreement made between Akiros and some of the others, Kazmuk left Sir Andreas with the decision. Instead, he followed Jhod, offering his advice and help.

"Masterr Jhod, as me people use to say, it is betterr to 'build a rroof beforre buyin' the furrniturres', vhich means that some things need to be done firrst. As farr as I underrstand, the Forrgefatherr and the Stag God arre allies also in their belief about the safety o' theirr people and ve can't guarrantee the safety o' anyone in this parrt beforre ve get rrid o' these orrcs and the Stag Lorrd... vhen ve've done that, it vill be me pleasurre to help ya vith the rrebuildin'."

Astonished by the miracle he witnessed, Kazmuk mused about its significance, while thanking the Father for the blessing. "I wish to thank Ya, Forrgefatherr, forr the blessin' Ya bestoved us. As prromissed, ve did some serrvice in the name o' Yarr ally, the Stag God."

"I believe both the Stag God and the Forrgefatherr guided ourr hands this day, forr even vhile fightin' such a mighty foe, none o' us got any scrratch!"

GM, I've moved Rillka and Kazmuk closer to the bear. Rillka voiced her desire to be closer in the spoiler, but we both forgot to move our tokens forward. I put ourselves close to Akiros.

Kazmuk rushes forward while grabbing his hammer holy symbol. "Kärsivällinen, kysyn teiltä jälleen kerran avunne. Autamme palauttamaan yhden suurimmista liittolaisistasi, Erastil!"

Dwarven:
"Forgefather, I ask You once more for Your assistance. We are helping to restore the glory of one of Your greatest allies, Erastil!"

Kazmuk smiles, replying in dwarven. "Isä opettaa meitä suojelemaan kaikkia niitä, jotka tarvitsevat ... ja vaikka uskon, että olet rohkea ja kykenevä suojelemaan itseäni, sydämeni on levoton ajattelemalla sinua vahingoittamalla. Niin kauan kuin henkeä, suojelen sinua elämäni, Rouva Rillka."

Kazmuk curses as the orc he shot was still fleeing. Sadly his crossbow would take too much time to reload. Turning to Roke, he yelled. "Misterr Rroke, I von't be able to shoot at that bastarrd in time, but I have an idea... come closerr to me if ya can! I need to prrep an arrrow o' yarrs..."

My intention is for Roke to move towards Kazmuk and ready an action to shoot the orc once Kazmuk has done his trick. In Kazmuk's action, he will 5ft step towards Roke and inscribe three runes at one of Roke's arrows as a full-round action. These will be tracking runes. If Roke then is able to hit the orc, but the pesky bastard is still alive, we'll be able to track him easily.
