Knowing that she's the slowest member of the party (except, possibly, Ariadne), Kayleigh clanks to the southern staircase leading to the catwalk, allowing her swifter friends easier and more direct access to the escaping cultist. Only when she reaches the top of the stairs does the healer realize there is a pair of unexplored side rooms nearby.

Double move.

Kayleigh resista the spell. When she sees the strange man pop out of a room momentarily, she's not sure exactly what he is...but he's no wererat. She thumps purple a bit harder this time, and if he falls, she closes on yellow. (If not, she'll take another swing at purple, which I'll put in a spoiler.)

Kayleigh shifts a bit and tries to thump the cultist before her. She lets out a sigh of relief when she notices Zahur starting to move again. Even though she connects with her target...it's still a pretty weak strike.

Gee...I thought I was pretty strong, at least for a woman. Maybe there's an unwritten rule that a healer's not supposed to cause serious harm to another living creature?

Seeing Zahur held by a spell, Kayleigh detours to engage the cultist who cast the spell.

Glad I mentioned that option beforehand! I've shifted Kayleigh's position on the map.

Kayleigh will be doing a double-move. Where to depends on if she sees Zahur get held. If so, she'll move to engage Red. Otherwise, she'll head to the steps, hoping to eventually engage yellow.

Kayleigh takes a 5-foot step closer to the frightful chamber and then casts shield of faith on Brigita. "Alchemize...pulverize.... Do what you do best."

+3 deflection bonus to AC. Duration: 8 minutes.

Kayleigh shakes her head at Zahur's words. "Why don't I open the doors, step back, and cast shield of faith on Zahur if we see any resistance?" The healer pauses a moment, thinking she's made a good plan but wanting to run it past the others before executing it. She comes up with a potential stickling point herself.

"Um...has Vedika checked these doors for traps yet?"

If not, Kayleigh will spam Vedika with guidance spells as needed.

Does anyone want/need the ring of protection +1? A boost to AC isn't something I'd turn down.

An alchemist! That's funny! :)

Kayleigh nods, equal parts angry and nervous. Turning to Vedika, she says quietly, "If we run into a lot of foes at once, I can cast a spell--shield of faith--that will make you tougher to hit, if you can delay long enough for me to cast it."

It'd give a +3 deflection bonus for 8 minutes.

Kayleigh could cast it on someone else if preferred; Vedika's the squishiest of the party, though.

Kayleigh could use any of the magic items listed (save for the cloak--already has one), though she doesn't need any of them. I've already added the "fine mortician's tools" to her character sheet in the belief that she might very well need them to help the city in the aftermath of the blood veil plague. The tools are all I'll claim for her, for now.

Kayleigh is taken aback by the unconscionable scene before her. "This is an abomination...," the young Milanite whispers as she examines the captives/test subjects. "How could anyone do such a thing?"

The healer forces her thoughts back into the here-and-now. Digging out the spare plaguebringer's masks the party has found in the secret complex, Kayleigh sets them out near four of the five still-living captives strapped to the medical tables. Telling her friends to gather close and move the dying bodies of the doctors and cultists out of range, the merciful healer twice channels positive energy, healing everyone and using her built-in mercy to cure the disease currently wracking four of the five prisoners. (Let's say she removes disease from the two patients drifting in and out of consciousness and two of the other three who yet live.)

Assuming that her actions bring all four around to consciousness, Kayleigh gently explains the dire situation to them and tells them to put on the spare plaguebringer's helms the party has collected.

@GM: I'm going to assume (unless you rule otherwise) that Kayleigh's already used two of her healing channels after some of the challenges you hand-waved earlier inside the clinic, using the remove disease mercy on her friends, to keep them disease-free during the party's incursion into the comlex. This will still leave her two channels for the day to have for any other encounters that may still lie ahead.

I'm pretty sure that 30 points of healing should bring everyone back to full hps; if not, let me know and I'll have Kayleigh top you off with other healing spells or taps from the wand of CLW Vedika gifted her.

Mindful that it's quite possible the group has an invisible foe within earshot or is currently scrying on the party's progress as they all delve deeper into this den of disease and iniquity, the healer has a whispered conversation with her friends. "Should we tell the survivors to just hide for now or try to get out of this place--if they even can--immediately? I wouldn't want anyone to stay in this awful place a moment longer than needed, but...they might make important witnesses once we expose these horrors to Field Marshal Kroft. Gee--they might even know who's in charge of this travesty or maybe who ordered all this...the queen, perhaps?"

Once she sees the other captives in the next room, the cleric asks them, "Did you overhear anything regarding who's in charge of this secret laboratory or who's giving the ultimate orders regarding its operation?"

Kayleigh manages one satisfying THUMP in her next two swings at the doctor; not a ton of damage is dealt, though.

Kayleigh tries to thump the last doctor standing. Frustrated by her own futility, the young cleric tries something she's never tried before--making two attacks in rapid succession! She grimaces as she learns she's twice as bad at hand-to-hand combat than she thought she was.

"I'm no expert on the undead, but those look like plague zombies to me!" Kayleigh shouts to the others. "They explode and spread disease when they're destroyed!"

Kayleigh follows Brig into the room, wincing at the carnage her friend causes with but a single swing of her mighty weapon.

I',m assuming that the Purple Doctor is killed by that whack; if not, Kayleigh wouldn't risk an AoO to move where I have her on the map.

Trying to use Brigita's fighting skill as an inspiration and blueprint for how it's down, Kayleigh targets another doctor (Blue) with her morningstar.

OK, I've finally got Kayleigh updated through 8th level. The only thing missing is her 7th-level feat. I'm thinking of going with Craft Magic Arms and Armor.

Before the group proceeds further, Kayleigh takes a moment to heal Zahur a bit. Then, finally using one of her pearls of power, recalls the CLW spell to cast it upon herself.

Vedika's suggestion sounds like a really good idea, so Kayleigh grants her Milani's blessing (guidance) as often as needed while she looks for such a control. In between castings, Kayleigh looks around some herself. Try as she might, the healer can't help but stare at the monstrous display time and again rather than hunt for a control mechanism.

"Eww! I don't want to know what this abhorrent mess is supposed to mean!" comes the hollow voice of Darth Kayleigh from within her mask.

Kayleigh's not sure who informed her about the monstrous goddess Urgathoa and her twisted cult-like following during her formative years spent at the Pantheon of Many, but that info--paired with Ariadne's words--causes many of the pieces of the puzzle that is the blood veil plague fall neatly into place. The one crucial piece that remains out-of-place in the young healer's mind is: WHY would Queen Ileosa do such a thing to her own subjects?

Another thought hits her with the force of one of Brigita's earthbreaker slams, and Kayleigh voices it to the others: "If Urgathoa and her minions are involved in all this, then maybe the old king's death was actually...murder."

Kayleigh gets splattered with blood and gore from Brigita's devastating smash into the cultist they flank. Kayleigh's voice emanates from beneath the physician's mask she wears: "Never thought I'd be thankful to be wearing one of these things! What a smash you gave that fellow, Brigita!"

In answer to Vedika's question, the healer points out, "Hopefully, we'll be able to come back here and loot more thoroughly, but for now...."

Kayleigh again casts detect magic and gives the room a quick scan for emanations.

Kayleigh cries out in pain as the scythe opens her upper arm, inches above the defense offered by her buckler. In anger, she strikes back, trying for a head shot on her fellow who injured her. Hand-to-hand combat just isn't her thing, though, and after a weak swing she steps cautiously to the south to help Brigita, flanking one of her foes.

Kayleigh scurries into the room, raising her buckler to defend against any attack as she bypasses a cultist (Red) to help Brig battle the evil doctors.

Hearing Ariadne's command and seeing someone fleeing south, Kayleigh casts sound burst into the next room, centering it deep enough that her friends won't get caught in the spell's radius.

Here's the problem, though: from where she is, Kayleigh wouldn't be able to know that the guy Ariadne wants to stop is in an alcove out of range of where she'd center her spell (the intersection one block right of the bottom of Light Blue's token).

Maybe it'll stun another foe so someone in the room already can stop the guy from raising an alarm?

To quote Hooper from "Jaws"...I got that beat. TWO level-ups behind. Gotta get that finished. Most of it's on paper, but....

For her action in the surprise round, Kayleigh will wait until everyone else has gone and then move up to the doorway to get a lay of the land (and a view of the enemies in the next room).

Kayleigh hangs in back, keeping watch on the double doors to the east. Feeling that the element of surprise is pretty moot at this point, she casts guidance on herself to help out with the task. (And on Vedika, if she's looking for traps and/or picking a lock.)

Kayleigh collects the plague-bringer masks, handing one to each of her friends. Though she feels silly and is certain she looks goofy, the healer puts on one of the masks for the rest of the exploration.

Kayleigh's dumbfounded by the thought that the someone(s) would be so irredeemably evil as to use the blood veil to eliminate otherwise innocent 'undesirables' that Vedika has to save her bacon by bringing the cleric back into the here-and-now with a subtle tap and point of her dagger.

Since Kayleigh lacks a whole lot of subtlety, she'll probably spin around to engage the incoming baddies. I also moved her into the northern room, since she was last seen giving guidance to Vedika.

Seeing Vedika having some difficulty with the lock of the display case, Kayleigh moves next to her to continually grant her Milani's Blessing (guidance) while Vedika works her lockpicking magic.

Kayleigh tags along quietly. It's clear that she's horrified that the people in charge of fighting the spread of the blood veil are criminally shirking their duty.

Kayleigh replaces the morningstar back onto her hip so she'll have two hands available for the climb down. "I suppose I ought to go first, just in case I fall. Don't want to land on anyone else, right?" With a nervous chuckle, the young woman tries her luck and descends the lift shaft, after muttering a quick prayer to Milani.

Kayleigh is about to hand her morningstar to Zahur when her comrade swiftly reduces the door to splinters. Not saying a word, she casually withdraws the offered weapon and tries to act like nothing happened. She does give Zahur a quick nod and smile, complimenting him of the thoroughness of his destructive work.

Here, but unable to do much.

Kayleigh can use guidance to give a +1 to the check of either Vedika or to whoever wants to try to break the doors, but that's about it.

Rest up. Have a healing channel, courtesy of Milani and her servant. ;)

"I'll bet Vedika can make the lift come back up with those little lockpick things she uses!" Kayleigh blurts out excitedly.

I misunderstood. For some reason I thought there was a mix of sick and immune citizens used in whatever experiments have been going on here.

Kayleigh returns to the infirmary to help Brigita after nabbing the interesting notes. Looking to find the two patients who look the healthiest (relatively speaking), Kayleigh ask Brig (assuming the others chase after the invisible person) to carry one of the two to the doctor's office while she carries the second. There she burns one of her channels to use merciful healing to remove the diseased condition from them.

"Hopefully, this way they'll be able to recover while the drugs wear off without being re-infected by other patients."

"Ooh! Found some notes here about some Varisians' immunity to the blood veil! I didn't even realize that was the case...." Kayleigh puts the documents into her backpack for future perusal, blissfully unaware that someone slipped past invisibly.

Having run part of CotCT before, I'm pretty sure the grid squares have a scale of 10 feet, which would help to reduce some of the bottlenecking going on.

Kayleigh casts bless on the group (duration 7 mins., +1 on attacks and saves vs. fear) and lets the more martially inclined do their thing on the Grey Maidens blocking the doorway.

Kayleigh gets ready to cast bless on her allies if more than one foe is revealed when Ariadne pushes open the door.

Kayleigh holds off casting bless until the group actually has someone or something to fight. Instead, she spams Brigita (if we're trying to break down the doors) or Vedika (if she tries to disable the bar on the door, if possible) with guidance orisons to boost her friends' chance of success.

"I can cast a bless spell on us all as soon as we hit resistance and save my stronger spells for later," Kayleigh chimes in.

Sorry about my recent silence. Crazy busy with work and a few other things. I'm hoping to get caught up before the GM posts tonight.

"I know that!" Kayleigh yells at the physician. (This is likely the first time Brigita has seen Kayleigh angry; heck, it's probably one of the few times Kayleigh's seen herself get angry!) "I came in here to ask for advice on how to contain the spread of blood veil out in the city streets and even offered my services as a healer, and this bi--birch tree ignored me! While hundreds of people are dying throughout the city! Can you believe it??!!"
