Kayleigh dodges the receptionist's grapple and sticks out a foot, trying to trip her.

Kayleigh gives an uncharacteristic growl of frustration and anger as the receptionist cuts her off. "You don't care one bit what happens to those poor, sick people, do you?" she spits at the woman.

Kayleigh will try to judge the woman's reaction to her words before instigating any violence.

Kayleigh makes a sudden break for the leather curtain, shouting at the receptionist, "Someone cried out in pain just now! Didn't you hear that?" Not her best bluff attempt....

Kayleigh Fairwind Bluff Check: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9

I'll add an initiate check to see if Kayleigh can beat the woman to the curtain...or, I suppose, in the event that violence breaks out because of her action.

Kayleigh Fairwind Initiative Check: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19

Kayleigh plays the wide-eyed ditz, standing where she is as if still waiting for the woman's reply. She takes the time to casually examine the front room for doorways into the heart of the building, as well as looking for anything unusual or out-of-place in the area.

Kayleigh Fairwind Perception Check: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21

"Good day," Kayleigh says in greeting to the receptionist. "We're a couple of concerned citizens and were just wondering if the Queen's physicians have had any luck in terms of curbing the blood veil, because it's still quite prevalent throughout much of the city. I'm a healer and can cast remove disease spells, but if the Queen's physicians have learned any mundane methods of fighting the disease, I'd like to hear them so I can use them myself. Or...if my healing skills could be of help here, I'd be happy to pitch in and do my duty to aid Korvosa in its time of great need."

Kayleigh Fairwind Diplomacy Check: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 18

Kayleigh takes a deep breath, covers her nose and mouth with a folded kerchief, enters the Hospice of the Blessed Maiden, and looks around for someone to speak with. She tries her best to look friendly and naive (in other words, the normal Kayleigh).

"Hmm..., I'm a healer, so I could go inside and ask if perhaps my services might be required?" Kayleigh suggests to the others, not sounding sure of herself. "I might be able to pull it off, so long as I don't have to lie a lot. Then I'll report back to you all."

I've started the leveling up process as well.

"Well, I'll probably be a bit on the clanky side, but maybe I could use a silence spell or two to keep things relatively quiet."

The cleric then says she's willing to try if the others are up for it.

Kayleigh also tries to console Ausio, but there are a couple of nagging questions she needs answered. "Do you know who hired the elf to entertain at your party?" she gently asks the distraught nobleman. Then she adds, "Did she give any indication as to why she did this?"

Kayleigh looks everywhere except at the psychotic elf woman. But not very closely, in her flustered state.

Kayleigh Fairwind Perception Check: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12

Kayleigh nods and moves back into her usual rearguard position, trying her hardest not to meet the eyes of the kooky elf slung over Zahur's shoulder.

"We still need to find Ruan," Kayleigh whispers to the others. "Assuming she hasn't...." The cleric's voice trails off as she makes a cutting motion across her throat.

Looking vaguely offended at being called a "snoop," Kayleigh sets out toward relieving the elf of her magical treasures. She lets the others interrogate her, trying her best to decipher if the elf is being the least bit honest with her replies.

Kayleigh Fairwind preemptive Sense Motive Check: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (15) + 12 = 27

Unable to remove the elf's armor--since the captive has already been shackled--the cleric instead brings up detect magic again and tries to determine what types of magic the armor's enchanted with.

Kayleigh Fairwind Spellcraft Check: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24

Kayleigh takes a careful 5-foot step away from the scrum and again casts detect magic and scans the semi-captive elf for any magical items she might use to affect an escape. She also reports anything she discovers to her friends.

Kayleigh shouts to the others that she's found the troublemaker...sort of. Then she tries to to grapple the invisible figure she feels brushing past her. Her fingers find nothing, however.

Kayleigh Miss Chance: 1d100 ⇒ 27

After re-reading the last few posts and looking more closely at the map, I think Zahur, Ariadne, and possibly Vedika are lurking near the wrong room.

I've repositioned Kayleigh in the hope that the room to the north is where we ought to be gathering.

Kayleigh scoots to back up Zahur.

Kayleigh yelps suddenly in pain, spinning to try to pinpoint whomever attacked her.

Kayleigh Fairwind Perception Check: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15

If she can, Kayleigh would also cast a CLW spell on herself to heal a bit and stop the bleed damage.

Kayleigh Fairwind cure light wounds (self): 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13

I'll vote left. Kayleigh's at the back.

Sounds good to me. Kayleigh will continue to scan for magical emanations and act as rearguard--occasionally scanning behind the party as well--just in case someone tries to sneak up behind the group.

Kayleigh continues to scan for any magical emanations--unless her comrades need her to brain an undead or two with her morningstar. She herds Vedika before her, if necessary, as she heads downstairs to join the others.

I'll vote for checking out E1b next.

Unless we're in a big rush and can't spare 5 rounds, Kayleigh will cast guidance on each PC to give them a +1 bonus on their choice of a skill check.

The first floor map had the section we're about to enter still blacked-out, so I figure Kayleigh's at her usual rearguard position, probably still on the staircase, I'll roll a Perception check to determine if she might see anything out-of-the-ordinary while scanning for magic.

Kayleigh Fairwind Perception Check (guidance): 1d20 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 3 + 1 = 18

Kayleigh casts another detect magic cantrip in the off chance the mystery woman has an item or ongoing spell that might betray her location. She takes her familiar position as rearguard (unless someone asks her to move toward the front to do her scanning) and follows the others downstairs.

Kayleigh's about to report her findings to the others when she hears the creak and curse from below. Thinking quickly--for her at least--the cleric calls out, "Don't worry--we're here to save you!" She looks at the others, shrugs, and whispers, "Maybe she'll buy that; who knows? The zombies don't seem to be attacking whoever she is, though...."

I suppose I ought to make a Bluff check for that....

Kayleigh Fairwind Bluff Check: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9

Kayleigh does a quick scan of the zombies' corpses, looking for any obvious signs of the blood veil on their faces or other exposed skin. She also casts a detect magic cantrip while in the bedroom and scans for any emanations as she slowly makes her way to the others to head downstairs.

Kayleigh moves to the northwest corner of the railed opening overlooking the floor below, both to protect the group in case something hostile emerges through either of the doors to the north and to peer below to see if any more threats are present. She relays any intel she might discover.

Kayleigh follows Ariadne's directions, fanning out to the left as she gets inside the room.

Kayleigh stands stock-still, afraid that any movement in her armor might give away the group's presence.

When Kayleigh's turn to climb comes around, she nervously takes the rope in her hands. "Milani--I could really use your help with this...," she says softly, casting a guidance spell upon herself.

Kayleigh Fairwind Climb Check(guidance): 1d20 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 + 1 = 20

She can cast guidance on anyone else who makes the climb before her.

Kayleigh nods at Ariadne's suggestion but that's about it: the cleric is aware that she's no master when it comes to stealth and infiltration.

Unsure as to what may have transpired inside the manor proper, Kayleigh decides to investigate the servants' quarters first. Maybe there's some clue there....

Of course, this assumes no one is opposed to heading to the manor after Brig's brewed her potion. Also, Kayleigh casts Milani's blessing upon herself before investigating.

Kayleigh Fairwind Perception Check (guidance): 1d20 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 3 + 1 = 24

Kayleigh gives the mystery some thought. "Maybe the party's hosts succumbed to the blood veil; that would perhaps explain the smell you detected coming from within the manor," the cleric hypothesizes. "Perhaps your brother caught the blood veil at the party and is now recuperating at a healer's place or near a temple." Realizing that her words likely don't allay the woman's fears and may, in fact, worsen them, Kayleigh smiles and says, "Don't worry. We'll find him, and if he's sick, I should be able to heal him."

Kayleigh knows nothing about the young woman's brother, Ruan, so she merely offers Deyanira a supportive smile and assures her, "We'll do our very best to find your brother."

Kayleigh Fairwind Intelligence Check (Ocarina?): 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

Once Deyanira's attention turns elsewhere, the culturally-challenged cleric whispers to Brigita, "What's an ocarina?"

I'm pretty sure I recall Kayleigh failing the Knowledge (local) check; I'm guessing I got sidetracked or distracted and never actually submitted that post, so I'm sticking with that.

"Why don't you outline this mission to us now?" she asks the field marshal with one of her simple yet disarming smiles. "I'm ready to go now, but if any of the others needs to rest up and recover resources, we could always talk things over and head out tomorrow with a plan already in place."

Once the party is outside and a fair distance from the shop, Kayleigh offers her thoughts on the suspicious man in the shop. "He definitely seemed interested in the proprietor," she begins, "but I'm not sure if he was another guard working undercover or maybe someone investigating the 'miracle cure' like us."

Klueless Kayleigh eventually catches Brigita's signal and tries to surreptitiously watch the man and try to figure out his intent in the shop.

Kayleigh looks around a bit, trying to get a read on the vendor and her two shop guards.

Kayleigh Fairwind Sense Motive Check (Guards): 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (9) + 12 = 21

Trying to get a feeling as to whether Vendra's a con woman and if the guards seem more like her bodyguards or more like guardians of her precious cure.

"Of course there would be a line," Kayleigh comments glumly. "Even if this alleged cure does work--which I seriously doubt--everyone, sick or just scared of becoming sick, is waiting together in the same line, which only helps spread the blood veil."

Turning to Brigita, the cleric asks, "Do you suppose if we spoke to the healer and pointed out this problem, that they'd do something to at least try to alleviate it? Or do you think that us cutting to the head of the line is more likely to cause a riot?"

I'm assuming the others are nearby as well, if they'd like to chip in their opinions/ideas.

"I'll come with," Kayleigh tells Brigita, flashing yet another of her seemingly inexhaustible happy-go-lucky smiles. "While I'm not very good at fighting the undead, I am pretty decent at reading people's intents and can usually tell when they're lying through their teeth."

Once the first two are staked and stealth presumably goes out the window, Kayleigh will move in to help out, brandishing her holy symbol. Then she'll see what there is to see and do what she needs to do. :)

Kayleigh gives Ariadne a grim (possibly terrified) nod and grabs the chain of her holy symbol with her buckler arm's hand, the better to present it forcefully to the vampire spawn. Her right hand clutches her silver morningstar in a white-knuckled grasp.

A silence spell would be the absolute best thing imaginable right now

And, of course, Kayleigh doesn't generally prepare silence. Want me to have her prep that daily instead of align weapon going forward? That second spell's super-specialized and the party usually doesn't need it...until they do and it's not prepared.

Due to her lack of Stealth, I was planning on having Kayleigh hang back while others do the initial reconnaissance so she wouldn't ruin their chance of success. The light spell was for Zahur's weapon or some other item he carries.

After shrugging sheepishly in reply to Brigita's question, Kayleigh casts a light spell as directed by Zahur.

Kayleigh tells the others what she's heard about vampire spawn. "We might want to find these creatures before the sun goes down."

Thanks for the reminder! I wasn't even sure I'd put a single rank into Knowledge (religion) since Kayleigh can't affect them with her positive energy channels, but it turns out I did (probably for this very reason).

"Uh...umm...I can't really battle undead very well, but here's what I know about them...."

Before Zahur creeps off to investigate, Kayleigh temporarily removes the heavy kerchief that covers her nose and mouth, then quietly informs the others of a potential handicap if undead have found and/or overtaken the body dump.

"As part of my calling as a healer, I took a holy oath. Part of the trade-off for my enhanced healing capabilities is that I can't use my positive energy channels to harm undead...so let's hope there aren't any lurking about!" That said, she replaces the kerchief and prepares for trouble.
