"What about that 'crystal compass' Gerta made? If she could find Arabella's crystals, maybe we can use it to find her mines again?"

You can tell that Katana has not had much interaction with children, as she says "That was VERY good, Connor! I'm...um, proud of you. But when you don't...when you have to not tell the whole truth, it's best to keep it simple, and stick to the truth as much as possible.

So rather than lie about the guns, and make up some strange confusion machine, wouldn't it be better to just use the aircart as proof, which is the truth? Because later on we don't want to be caught in a lie, then no one would ever believe us again. Always try to be as honorable as possible. Does that make sense?"

Katana walks over to Connor, squats down in front of him so they're eye-to-eye, and in a very uncharacteristic gesture, grabs his shoulders and squeezes gently (the closet she can bring herself to a hug).

"Connor, it's ok to feel hurt right now, but when you act childish, you're no good to us. We *will* get the people that are responsible for killing your uncle, but we need you to start becoming the man your uncle wanted you to be. Only then will you be able to revenge him.

Now : take a minute, and think about all the things we've suggested about what to tell the mayor. Can you think of *any* reason why one might be better or worse than the other?"

"Yes, Connor, you need to start making decisions, that's what makes you grow up. What do *you* think we should tell the Mayor?"

"Perhaps we should show the mayor Gerta's air-cart, that should back up our story some."

Two-Fisted.

I guess Connor and WindDancer wouldn't care, and Xvark doesn't know enough about this new planet to choose, so...

"We *should* find Gerta's partner and stop him, but if you are not willing to do that then we should notify the authorities in WeMadeIt as soon as possible that something evil is brewing deep in the heart of Keltica."

FYI to all - please don't take what Katana says as "messages from the GM" - I try to play her independently, as I imagine she would react.

Katana's Fear check :
Smarts: 1d4 ⇒ 3 -2 = 1

Fright Table: 1d12 ⇒ 12 WORST possible result!

Katana Runs away and is Shaken
Running: 1d6 ⇒ 1 + 2(houserule) = 3 squares extra

9 squares total, can only move 4 (map updated)

Everyone suddenly hears Katana scream in terror, and she runs to the farthest corner of the room, screaming incoherently all the way. She claws at the walls with her bare hands as if trying to dig her way thru the solid metal.

Katana continues to attack Validus :
Fighting & Wild: 1d10 ⇒ 41d6 ⇒ 4 She's not having a good day.

Spending a Bennie
Fighting & Wild: 1d10 ⇒ 101d6 ⇒ 4
Explode: 1d10 ⇒ 5 = 15 +1(gangup) = 16 vs. Parry=8 is 2 Raises

Now if she can only do as well on the damage...
Damage: 1d8 + 1d4 + 2 + 1d6 ⇒ (6) + (3) + 2 + (1) = 12 vs. 8 is a Raise!

Validus takes a Wound and is Shaken

Katana moves swiftly thru the room, slides past K'Don and gets close enough to Validus to attack :

Fighting & Wild: 1d10 ⇒ 81d6 ⇒ 5 = 8 vs. Parry=8 is a Success

Damage: 1d8 + 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (6) + (3) + 2 = 11 vs. Toughness=8 is a Success

Validus is Shaken

A tiny little retcon, so I can have some fun too...

Connor wrote:
"She understands. She'll do it. Who tells her who?"

Katana says "If anyone shouts out that they need healing, send it to them. And it would be quicker if you held up the potion in your hand for WindDancer to pick up. If you see someone fall, you'll have to go over to them yourself, if you can do so safely, and pour the potion down their throat. WindDancer probably cannot do that. Understood?"

Connor wrote:
"But I should still use this thing, right?" he asks, indicating his wrist.

Katana says "Yes, always keep it on in there, and always hold your arm so that the little disk is between you and anyone attacking you."

She grabs Connors arm and moves it and twists it into the proper position, and makes several fake karate-chop-like attacks with her arm to show him how to use it.

"Didn't Gerta have some potions on her that we took? Seems like now might be a good time to use them."

Dammit, I had an edit to my previous post where Katana attacked the Rigellian with a "shuriken", got a Raise on the attack, but the damage did not get thru Toughness.

But I forgot to Submit, and the web page not only timed out, but wouldn't go back to my edit page to copy-and-paste the results. So I'm just stating here that's what happened.

Katana switches her attack to the Velantian, since it is doing the most damage :

Throwing & Wild: 1d8 ⇒ 81d6 ⇒ 2
Explode: 1d8 ⇒ 8
Explode: 1d8 ⇒ 7 = 23 vs. Velantian's Parry of 8 is 3 Raises

Damage: 2d6 + 1d6 ⇒ (3, 4) + (6) = 13
Explode: 1d6 ⇒ 6 Sheesh!
Explode: 1d6 ⇒ 6 OMG!
Explode: 1d6 ⇒ 2 = 27 vs. Toughness=10 is 4 Wounds

Trying to Soak :
Vigor & Wild: 1d10 ⇒ 11d6 ⇒ 3 Doesn't even soak a single one

Katana's "shuriken" hits the hideous dragon-snake nightmare right smack in the middle of his forehead, cracking his skull and splattering brains all over Connor and Marko.

What a pity the Velantian got the Joker, or Katana could've prevented Connor's and Marko's wounds...

DM has 7 Bennies

Spirit & Wild: 1d6 ⇒ 61d6 ⇒ 2 = 6 + 2 = 8
No need to roll the Ace

After a minute of sitting in darkness, Katana curses softly and you hear the ripping of cloth.

She says "This won't last long, everybody keep alert!"

You hear the sound of flint-on-steel. In a few seconds, she holds up a tightly-wound "wick" of cloth that's rapidly burning down to her fingers.

In the dim light, you see a large room, completely made of metal. The aircart is right next to one of the walls, which is bare, smooth metal with what looks like large runes carved in the metal. The side walls of the room have bumps and holes all over them. You see what *might* be a door in the wall farthest from you (it's an indentation in the metal wall, about the right size and shape), but it has no doorknob of any kind. There's a "counter" sticking out from the side walls, running the length of them, with more bumps and holes. There are legless chairs held up by single posts running along the counter. Otherwise, the room is empty.

The light goes out, and Katana says "I'm not burning up the rest of my clothes - anyone else have any ideas?"

"Did anyone think to bring a *torch*?" Katana asks rather sarcastically, one of the few times you've heard any emotion in her voice. Probably because she's annoyed that she didn't either...

"Marko, can you make light? Connor, can you or WindDancer?"

"My past is dead to me, and I have no future. I go where I want, and where I end up is where I'm needed." She gestures with her hand in an arc at the building you're in, as if that explains everything.

Katana helps out wherever needed, without being asked. Making chairs, helping Arabella disable machinery, cooking, walking the grounds (guard duty), etc.

She doesn't say much except regarding how to get a job done, doesn't offer any info about herself or her history, but answers questions pleasantly enough.

She asks K'Don if he would be willing to be her hand-to-hand sparring partner, requesting about an hour's workout a day. He finds that despite his significant size over her, she manages to keep him a little exhausted and slightly bruised here and there after each workout.

"No offense to WindDancer, but it would probably take her days to cover an area we could in hours with the aircart. However, she could scout *from* the aircart, and dive down to investigate anything that looks interesting or odd.

So, shall we begin to load up the cart? Are we trying to take everything we want to keep in case someone attacks this place while we're gone, or are we just taking some food and leaving most of this stuff here to come back to?"

"It sounds like Tomei has never come here - so far, Gerta always went to him. Altho I suppose he might visit if he has a working aircart and doesn't hear from her after long enough. But I agree we should scout out the other X on the map all together."

Boosting Agility to d10. So next time, I can boost Fighting AND Throwing to d10 (both are d8 now).

"I for one repeat that it is our duty to take down this Tomei before he can unleash his army upon the world.
Think of the needless destruction, the loss of innocent lives."
