Sovereign Court

Hmm, looks like I might have missed this.

This profile isn't quite up to date, but is 18, will be updating soon.
Happy to play Hard Mode

I also use Scout, Thug, Sap Master, Bludgeoner, Enforcer to very potent effect. Keep in mind this tactic will fail to work as intended against Undead, Constructs, and anything with Uncanny Dodge. You can click on the character to see a multiclassed Cavalier that rides a griffon in PFS version of this build.

Here is the profile for my entry. Entire Stat Block is posted. This is the first Mini that I have done any modding on. Started with the Order of the Pyre Hellknight, then I used the whip and shield from Order of the Scourge Hellknight. I molded the head of the flail to the end of the whip by hand with green stuff, and glued the shield on the back of the mini.

My Chelish PFS character (Sir Peter Harrumph) is likely to purchase a slave in the future, though he does not have one as of yet.

Then again, he has a somewhat "chivalric" view of master-slave relations, viewing it as "the burden of nobility", closer to the relationship between an Arthurian knight and the peasantry he serves than the relationship between a man and his property. He considers abuse and mistreatment morally repugnant, and a stain on the honor of the abuser and Cheliax alike.

This was a natural result of having been raised by an enslaved halfling referred to as "Nan" while his distant, uninterested parents frittered away the family fortune on frivolities. Nan has since retired to a small house in the country; he still visits her, between sessions.

He also uses "slip" as a term of endearment. The man's a little off his rocker.

Sir Peter would be welcome to join the Order of the Chain with this attitude. After all the Chain binds society together in both directions, those at the top have responsibility for those below.

Semi on-topic: I always liked the "other shoe" of the Hellknight Order of the Chain. They retrieve runaway slaves (which has its unfortunate parallels), but they also ensure the fair and decent treatment of slaves in many cases. (That's a pretty simplified summary, of course.)

The Hellknight orders tend to be very fascinating, philosophically.

There's an adventure scenario waiting to be written if it hasn't already...

'The Hellknight's Duty' (or some other)

Upshot, a Hellknight of the Chain has discovered that a particular slave owner may be mistreating the thralls in their charge. Unfortunately, due to location/politics/position/plot/etc they can't take action on it.

However, they do have ties to a certain organization (The PFS) who could do a proper investigation of the situation and then report back their findings in return for plot/story/etc....

I know what I'm writing if I ever do a scenario. ^_^

(I'll put in a credit for you.)

Wow, um, thanks!

I would love to give out such a briefing, as I am both a Venture Captain, and an Order of the Chain Hellknight ...

My duties to my Order also led to my being bestowed with the title: Eagle Knight but that is another story.

“Mr. Giovanni, it seems you have a talent for finding the unlawful. This is to be greatly commended, and we can always use such people in our Society. It is unfortunate, but many of our colleagues don’t seem to respect the law; I hope that you might aid some of them in their waywardness. If people don’t respect and honor the law, all of society breaks down, and we can’t have that.

If you ever need aid in upholding the law, or if you find the trail of some unlawful person or creature that you don’t think you could handle, let me know. I have quite a great deal of experience with such matters. I personally favor non-lethal tactics in the field to bring back the unjust and have them serve their sentences.

You were wise to decline the offer of the Aspis. While there maybe a moderate amount of unlawful members in our Society, I don’t believe that the Aspis Consortium could work within the law even if they wanted to.

It is unfortunate that your self defense prompted difficulties with your home government. I’ll see if father has any lawyers he might be able to send to assist you in repairing that difficulty.”

“This celestial order may have been mentioned in my dealings with the Way of the Kirin, but I don’t remember. While my name is quite well known in Tien Xia, I can’t say that I am overly familiar with the place or its people.”

Jasmine is a Champion of the very well known Ruby Phoenix Tournament

Turning to regard the new comer, Jasmine’s face lights up with a smile.

“Ah Victoria, it is great to see you. Please come in and make yourself comfortable; I believe refreshments should be here shortly. My father sent a letter along with my latest griffon, stating that you’d be joining us here in the Society. I have found the Society has provided me with a great many opportunities to bolster and enhance my reputation and power. I believe that it should provide you many opportunities as well, I will try to let you know of promising endeavors if possible. Further enhancing the Henderthane cause is always a priority of mine.

Oh and our cousin Eddington is about somewhere too. I used my influence with Zarta to get him access to the ancient Thassilonian secrets that I have delivered unto the society. He spends most of his time in the libraries I think. I think he just went on his first field assignment a short while ago.”

As Lady Jasmine starts talking about her mutual cousin Eddington, a handful of servants enter the room with tables and food. They quickly set up a feast with foods from various parts of the world.

”Good the refreshments have arrived. I must apologize for this modest affair. If any of you find yourselves on my island or in my lodge in the future, I assure you the accommodations will be much more complete than this.

Giovanni, I believe you were going to tell us how you came to our Society.”

Sovereign Court

"Taicho did you say your name was? While the vast majority of my House is indeed of superior stock, I believe you have mistaken were my duties to upholding social order comes from. I am a Hellknight of the Order of the Chain. Most believe that our only real duty is to return escaped slaves to their owners, but out duties go much deeper than this. Chains bind both ways, slaves to owners, serfs to lords, owners to slaves, and lords to serfs. Society is only as strong as the weakest link, so those links must be strengthen. A serf has a duty to work the land and provide their share to their lord, but the lord in return has a duty to ensure the availability of land to work and the safety of their serfs.

Forget not our duties as nobles to provide adequate accommodations for those that serve us, and our responsibilities to them.

Perhaps you should view expanding your palate as the beginning of your Explorations, Giovanni. Remember well the three tenants of the Society you have come to serve: Explore, Report, Cooperate.

I agree with Torquat here that you should be wary of speaking ill of the Society. You may just find that your work here will provide you with many avenues for expanding your influence and renown. My work as a pathfinder have led me to add many titles to the ones I was born with, and paved the way to making allies with many well connected people. One thing you should strive for in your work is also upholding and improving the reputation of the Society, for only with a strong reputation will we continue to gather influential allies.

Lord Veskel, it is a pleasure to meet you. I believe these folks from Tien might be sharing some Sake with us, and Giovanni is going to tell us how he came to our Society. I will ensure a fine meal is brought forth for this tale."

Turning away from the fine company to her slave that introduced her, and brought her wine:
"Renald, go fetch us a fine meal. Show this to anyone that objects to your appropriating servants and food."

Lady Henderthane tosses her slave a Silver Filigreed Wayfinder stamped with both the symbol of the Open Road, and the sigil of House Henderthane.

Acknowledging the newcomer,
"Welcome, though I don't believe that we have met. A pleasure to make your acquaintance"
Turning back toward Naomi and Ayaki,
"Yes, do have a bit of disdain for some, but I have sworn to uphold the ideals of Explore, Report, and most importantly for this discussion, Cooperate. I have at many times worked with fellow pathfinders that I have found distasteful, but I always get the job done. I have also found that our Court benefits greatly from a diverse group. You will find, that even if my prejudices incline me against you, that I will always be a stanch ally do to my oaths.

The ones in our society to be most careful about would probably be those that work for Colson Maldris, they are mostly dangerous rebels prone to violent outburst, while I have earned honors from Andoran, all of them have been earned in combating criminals, such as slavers that were dodging tariffs and performing vile and illegal experiments on the slaves. My order does much more than just bring home wayward escapees. We ensure that the social order is upheld, both upwards and downwards."

Debuffing can work very well.

This character specializes in Intimidate and Non-Lethal attacks, but can also stack other debuffs, and a fall back to great skills and UMD to maintain useful utility even when things are immune to non-lethal damage and fear/mind-effecting.

The build is a little unusual, but on a charge I can add 6d6+12 sneak attack, a free demoralize (lasts rounds=damage dealt +1 round, options to reduce to frightened for 1 round instead of shaken that long, or will DC 23 or panicked for 1 round, or frightened for 1d4, shaken afterword), sickened for 3 rounds, and debilitating injury, follow up with a swift action attack (hurtful), no sneak attack, but shatter defenses makes them flat-footed for 1 round.

So in addition to damage I can make them Panicked (save neg), Shaken, Sickened, Flat-Footed, and apply a debilitating injury.

Alternatively I can use Braggart (Dazzling Display) to potentially panic/shaken all enemies within 30 ft.

Debuffing works fine, and the unchained rogue is great at it.

Lady Jasmine frowns briefly when she sees a tiefling enter.
Knowledge Planes: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17+2 vs. devils and demons
Her frown disappears after she takes a moment to asses this tiefling's ancestry.

"Renald, get the door, and place a heavy curtain over it. Jonas is very loud. My fellow Venture Captain is always bellowing this or that about fighting and iron, some find it invigorating, but it just gets obnoxious to me. Though I wouldn't worry much about their health out there, he is a cleric of some power.

Yes we were helping instruct Ayaki on some of the more common fine drinks that she may encounter here in the Inner Sea. A necessary skill for our group to ensure we make favorable impressions on those that would be best to recruit to our court.

As far as training in the rain; training in adverse conditions is a good way to be prepared for the dangerous things you might encounter during your field duties. I am no stranger to such things. I train usually do my training with summoned or bound devils, and no blunted swords or other such things during such activities. Well, I generally use non-lethal tactics, but that is because I find them most effective to incapacitating foes, and striking fear into their hearts.

Oh and as to my frown when you entered, my family has had some impurities in the bloodline, though they have all ... disappeared."

Knowledge Local DC 15, 5 from Cheliax:
Cheliaxians hold humans to be superior to non-humans and it is quite frowned upon to taint one's bloodline with devils. Tieflings, while fairly common, are held in very low regard.

Barely acknowledging the bowing Tengu, and rather obviously not following the conversation in Tien. Lady Henderthane turns to the others addressing Lord Greymore just before his departure.

"I have not yet fully settled on a location for my new lodge. I was thinking about trying to acquire a nice private island in the Bay of Solva, and perhaps establish a Lodge there, in an attempt to try and help start smoothing relations between our society and House Thrune. My family and my deeds make me quite well suited to the task of helping our reputation with the Chelish Government."

Joining the conversation as it turns back to Taldan

"Champagne is a bit different from wine, it is bubbly and somewhat sweet. I much prefer a nice dark Chelish red, if anyone is interested I'll have my slave go fetch some more.

You are wise to carry protection, especially if you plan a trip the the grand bazaar. Absalom's city guard are mostly adequate, but they are certainly not as effective as Hellknights.

While I do not know the origins of Champagne, I find most of Galt is best avoided for people like us. The one place in Galt I visit with any frequency is Petelungro's Lodge in Woodsedge. Her friendship is quite important to me, and her lodge is surprisingly lovely for its location in that bed of Anarchy."

A man in noble’s livery steps out and pulls out a scroll to read from.

Knowledge Nobility DC 15 (10 from Cheliax):
The livery is of House Henderthane of Cheliax. House Henderthane is a powerful Chelish noble house that supplies House Thrune with arms and armor.

Long Winded Introduction:
“I present to you the Marquise d'Railford, Venture Captain Jasmine Henderthane. World Renowned, Favored of House Thrune, Respected by the Nail, Hellknight of the Order of the Chain, Student of Scrolls, Blaispear Hero, Savior of the Master of Blades, Scholar of the Gates Ajar, Student of Thassilon, The Evenhanded Investigator, Captor of Tancred Desmire, Captor of the Spider, Honored by the Twilight Talons, Eagle Knight of Andoran, Lion Blade of Taldor, Leidang of the Ulfen Gaurd, Pashsa of Qadira, Bearer of a Mendevian Commendation, Hero of the Five Kings, Exemplar of Falcon's Hollow, Hero of the Fey, Bearer of the Rune of Life, Commander of Fangwood Keep, and Honorable Member of the Order of the Coaktrice.”

He is followed by a Chelish woman wearing the a very fashionable Chelish evening gown, accented with gold and emerald earrings and a gold pentacle amulet. The cut of the gown reveals both a curious brand of a seven pointed star, and a resplendent Phoenix Tattoo.
Knowledge Local DC 10:
The Tattoo marks her as a champion of the Ruby Phoenix Tournament.

Knowledge Religion DC 10:
The pentacle is an unholy symbol of Asmodeous.

Knowledge Religion DC 25:
The brand is a mark of Lissala.

She is followed by another man in livery carring a resplendent bronze shield in the shape of a lion’s head, and a silver flail.

”Renald, go see if there is anything of quality to eat and drink.” After this address, the man in livery rolls up his scroll and heads into the building in search of some Chelish Red.

Turning towards the rest of the folk assembled, “Ah, some of my other servants are setting up my quarters in Arliss Hall, so I thought I’d stop by and see how the refined portion of our society is today. I bring great news for our Court, my most recent activities have recruited some prominent people in Tien and more recently in Ustalav.”

Looking around the room and seeing a mix of familiar and unfamiliar faces.
“Lord Greymore, always a pleasure to be in your company. Reynard and Volgnaer, it is good to see both of you again. Baroness Blakros, it is a pleasure to meet you. I am sorry that I don’t seem to know any of the rest of you, but I’ll be happy to make your acquaintance. I have sometime to socialize, as I won’t be meeting with others to discuss the establishment of my Lodge for a few days.”

Renald returns with a glass of chelish red.

“About time, keep yourself handy incase I need something, Suli is still missing.”

Having successfully rescued an Ustalavic Diva, and showing the Pathfinder Society in positive light, my achievements have been noted quite highly by the ten and I have been given the Title Venture Captain (Held Eyes of the Ten GM credit applied).

Lady Jasmine Henderthane is now level 13.

Sovereign Court

I not only strike my enemies in vital places to knock them unconscious, I strike fear into their hearts.

Enforcer and Intimidate pairs very well with sap master. (Thug/Scout archetypes also help this type of build).
Skill Unlock from unchained rogue makes this even more ridiculous.
Scout helps with treating enemies as flat-footed for sap master, and eventually you can take shatter defenses to help with your later attacks.

This profile has a very unusual sap master build (didn't get sap master till 9th).

Sovereign Court

Don't over look Rogue's Edge from unchained rogue, 5 rogue levels can get you Skill Unlock for Intimidate, very powerful for a demoralizing build. You also get enough sneak attack for sap master.

I have a Cav 4/Rogue 5/Hellknight 2 that has bludgeoneer, enforcer, dazzling display, shatter defense, she doesn't have hurtful yet as the build was already level 11 when Monster Codex came out, but I will grab it at 13th. Probably level in Rogue from here to get that extra 11 dmg per 2 levels.

You can check this profile.

the 4 cav levels are for Horsemaster to have a fully leveled mount (Griffon with monstrous mount, and monstrous mount mastery)

To get the build off as soon as possible:
Human Gendarme Cavalier 2/Unchained Scout, Thug Rogue 6
Level 1: Power Attack (Gendarme), Bludgeoneer, Challenge, Order, Mount
Level 2: Order Ability: Braggart: Dazzling Display
Level 3: Hurtful, Sneak Attack +1d6, Finesse Training (just ignore this), Frightening
Level 4: Evasion, Rogue Talent: Combat Trick: Sap Adept
Level 5: Sneak Attack +2d6, Weapon Focus: Choose your bludgeoning weapon of choice, Brutal Beating, Finesse Training
Level 6: Debilitating Injury, Rogue Talent: Strong Impression: Intimidating Prowess , Scout's Charge
Level 7: Sap Master, Rogue's Edge: Intimidate, Sneak Attack +3d6
Level 8: Rogue Talent: Ninja Trick: Combat Trick: Shatter Defenses
Level as you like, 2 more cav levels +horse master gets you an at character level mount, more rogue gives more sneak attack to get 2d6+4 for each 1d6 you actually have with sap master + sap adept,

I spent some time freeing slaves or whatnot with some poor addled Andoran fellows. I dare say they spend so much energy whacking away at chains with adamantine items, that s simple key could resolve. But rather than spoil their fun I drank some wine and clapped whenever they succeeded. I was the least I could do.

"I do find such folks to be quite droll myself, this kind of activity just leads to more work for me outside of my duties as a pathfinder. Work involving the return of property wrongfully released..."

Lady Jasmine is wearing obvious Order of the Chain Hellknight plate.

As to what that bird was discussing, sometimes it is best to use a less then ideal tool, an unwanted daughter, for a less than ideal match, to honor favors freely given. When one has an abundance of a resource, sometimes it becomes necessary to use this resource in less than ideal ways."

Sovereign Court

Dazzling Display (Via Braggart- Order of the Cockatrice Cavalier Ability) as a standard action, with Skill Unlock Intimidate +10 ranks is really powerful when you can get up to +47 to intimidate at level 11.

This character is one of my PFS characters, and got a free rebuild into unchained rogue. I got to play her the first time since the rebuild last night. I was able to force a DC 21 will save vs panic +shaken for several rounds after (or if you passed the save). The most amusing time this happened was with 6 enlarged mooks and an ettin boss. I managed to panic all of the mooks, and make the boss shaken for like 5 or 6 rounds with one standard action. The enlarged mooks dropped their falchions, which then shrunk.

You can click on the profile if you want to see the build, it is fairly up to date.

Sovereign Court

So, I finally played my level 11 PFS character last night that has 5 levels in rogue (unchained now). She is a Cavalier (Gendarme) 4/Unchained Rogue (Thug, Scout) 5/Hellknight 2, built to use Sap Master, Enforcer and Dazzling Display. The Skill Unlock for Intimidate was very powerful. She has a +47 to intimidate with 300gp of 1 hour consumables used, and was pretty much auto success on the beat the DC by 10. So 1 Standard Action (Braggart) to DC 21 Panic all enemies within 30ft. was very powerful. Debilitating Injury never really got to shine, most things died during my sneak attack or just after. Panicking 6 enlarge enemies was the most fun, they dropped their falchions, which then shrunk.

Jasmine while also sipping wine provided from her slave, ”You are correct that Glorymane has unfortunately been quite silent since I brought him forth into the world. He does sometimes impart some of his feelings, and helps warn me of liars, and has been quite marvelous both in battle and in fashion. I take no offence over your precautions; it is wise to guard oneself. I have found that the longer one is with the Society the more enemies that one gathers.

I will gladly join you in putting on public displays of power, as I too handle myself quite well in danger, and would gladly shield other agents with my own displays. I prefer my enemies to know of me that they might quake with fear when I actually encounter them.

Fata, I agree that manipulating the other factions within the society for our own ends could prove quite advantageous for our group, and should help us influence those we wish to add to this group.

Scaramanga, if any wine I provided to a friend proved to be dangerous, I would personally pay for any healing expenses and track down and punish those responsible for it. The punishment for such a thing, would go on for quite some time I would think ... ”

A large Suli quite the physical specimen, wearing little more than some ragged shorts holding an envelope walks in. ”I have filigree for you Lady Henderthane.” He presents the envelope to Jasmine. She takes it, and after examining the seal briefly opens it and reads the letter.

”It is called a letter you idiot, head back to the archives to see what Paracountess Dralneen needs of you, I have other business to attend to.” Jasmine then turns to the others present. ”It appears that Venture Captain Norden Balentiir has need of me in Sothis. I will see what allies I might be able to find for us there while I am away. I was quite successful in my last outing showing our worth to the Way of the Kirin in Tian Xia. Enjoy the rest of the wine.”

Jasmine once again taps her armor in a particular fashion, and the griffon she rode in upon once again appears before everyone.

A man in noble’s livery steps out and pulls out a scroll to read from.

He is followed by a woman in deep red hellknight plate that appears to be made mostly of chains, astride a griffon, also wearing deep red hellknight plate of a similar appearance.

Knowledge Local DC 15:
Her hellknight plate marks her as a member of the Order of the Chain

When she arrives, she dismounts and taps her armor. The griffon paces back and forth getting smaller and smaller until it walks into the armor. The lady’s hellknight plate, now takes on the appearance of a griffon bound in chains.

Perception: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (3) + 13 = 16

“That is enough Renald, go fetch us some of the Chelish red, we have some things to discuss. Ozymandias and Scaramanga, it is good to see both of you again. While an official constitution was not constructed at your meeting Ozymandias, I do believe there was some great discussion held.

Gnome, I don't believe we have met. You speak true about not be revealing our association as it is, but I do believe that it is not that hard to discuss such things in a manner that can get our point across without being obvious. As far as slipping away from your fellow pathfinders, I find it is not so difficult to request a moment for myself, or to tell them that I have private business with an individual. I don't pry into their affairs, and they tend to return the favor.

Miss, Morgana. Be wary in what you perceive as withering. House Thrune is quite capable of hiding their true strength and goals. It is my belief, and hope that they remain poised to take over the farce that has proven to be Andoran. Though I agree that the real goal of our association is power, over show or wealth, and this is why I have joined. I have already gathered what power I could from association with Paracountess Zarta, and seek to further my influence elsewhere. Show however can be quite useful as well. WIth the proper show it is not hard to cow others to your bidding."

" It appears there are no more forth coming bids, so I bid you congratulations Meridoc.

Marcellus, thank you for your honesty about your connections. If you are in need of magical assistance, my cousin Eddington will soon be finishing his training as a wizard and a pathfinder. When I achieve the title of Venture Captain, something that I believe will be added to the list rather soon, I will have enough leverage to get him appointed to advantageous field assignments.

My cousin is by all accounts a brilliant mind, and with my resources he has procured some very old texts to aid in his arcane training. I have encouraged him to join the Archive as he should be quite well suited to such work. Most of my field service was with the Paracountess, though my talents lie in the field of politics, not books, so I have fairly recently begun work elsewhere.

If you weren't so damn good at fighting and good looking, I'd probably have sold you long ago Sulii; but as it stands when I retire from active field work, I will be giving you to my cousin to ensure his well being.

Asher, I am quite embarrassed by Sulii's scribblings that I overlooked before I handed that to you. I'd give Zephrus, my griffon, a writing assignment before I gave one to Sulii, though I find that their intellects are actually quite comparable. If you would be so kind as to help me find my way out of here I would not like to even accidentally violate my invitation and relying upon Sulii to get me out seems not overly wise. Also Meridoc doesn't wish me to beat Sulii over much, and should he lead me astray too many times, well ... perhaps that is best left unsaid."

I just now read the line about the Thrune tokens and Taldan nobility, must have just Ninja'd my post, otherwise I would have replied to it, seems a little late to address now, oh and she expects to become a Venture Captain due to held GM credit awaiting her at level 12.

”I do indeed understand, that any of the folk that are bidding, including myself if I choose to, would employ this slip with the Archive. As my slave does work here, he was given permission to guide me to this particular place. And no, before you ask, this does not grant my access to other parts of the Archive, perhaps when this business is concluded you could assist me in leaving, as the suli yet again has shown his limits. Unless Lord Thrune wishes me to bid on his behalf and present him with a gift, I do not intend to bid against Hellknight Meridoc, though I would gladly bid against Asher for the honor of giving such a gift.”

"Damn it Suli, we are late due to your bumbling about. I did not task you to work for the lovely Zarta to lead me into dead ends about this place. Sorry to all of you for my tardiness, while Suli is quite the physical specimen he lacks a great deal in the area of intellect which makes him a bit unsuited as a guide. I would have sent forward my herald to announce my arrival, but I did not receive permission to bring him with me into the Archive. Ah, Meridoc I trust your business is quite well. She then turns toward Asher. “Ah Asher, come to admire the beauty to be found at an auction. I would not have thought to see you in such a place, I mean I know you ‘watch’ over the Archive, but this type of thing doesn’t seem to be your style, even given your unusualness for someone of your persuasion.

Venture Captain Dza’Thrune, I am pleased to make your acquaintance. I admire your reputation for getting people to do as you wish from your words alone; I too endeavor to ensure that my words are heeded in much the same way.

Anyway to the task at hand; 7,000gp for a slip? What makes her so valuable? Lord Thrune, if you desire such a one as this, I will bid on your behalf, but I don’t see what makes her so valuable. If you don’t I do believe that Hellknight Meridoc to be a man of honor, and will treat the slip fairly.

Be known that whosoever wins this bid shall, like all slave owners be beholden to treat their property in a fashion that befits their station. The person shall be adequately fed, clothed, and housed. As a member in good standing of the Order of the Chain, I will ensure this is done. Remember always that chains bind both ways from slave to master and master to slave. Should one link fail, so will the chain. For the good of the Society, if you choose to send this slip on missions, it behooves you to outfit them properly for their missions as I do with Suli here.”

Jasmine stands to the side to see how the proceedings continue, looking at Marcellus to see if he wishes to take up her offer.

Sense Motive DC 10:
Jasmine doesn’t really try to hide her motivation, of making an ally of anyone from House Thrune. She is clearly quite ambitious.

Lord Ozuman, there is no need for forgiveness, we are having a civil discourse and it is normal to disagree at times.

I see that you have misunderstood some of my point, perhaps I was not clear enough in my previous statements. I decry the Taldan nobility as they have shown that they are unwilling to take action when necessary and have tried to take credit for actions that are not their own. For example I know that several Taldan nobles that refused to aid the 5th Mendevian Crusade, tried to take credit for Lady Morilla’s work there.

Expansion of one’s own power and wealth upon the backs of others is the natural order of life, thus my support for these new Andoran “nobles.” However the chains upon which one pulls them-selves up also bind them to those underneath. Requiring those in power to take care of and support those underneath them, something I think that most of the Taldans seem to have forgotten. It remains to be seen I believe whether this Andorans will lead with any responsibility, I certainly hope they do. And perhaps they may see the benefit of more strict law and order and rejoin the empire, but I suppose that is not necessarily a goal of this organization.

My order teaches that there is a strict social order where everyone has their place just as every link in a chain serves the whole. All must fulfill their duties for the sake of society or the whole will weaken and crumble such as a chain with a weak link. Nobles must lead their people, not just stand on their backs, but peasants, servants, and slaves also must support society with their labor. The chains that bind us bind in both directions.

I hope this clarifies my position and I do believe that we actually agree on a fair margin.

Lord Greymore I think it matters not whether our nobility is derived from some divine power or not, as long as we all recognize that we have responsibilities to our positions and those in our charge. I certainly do not require my allies or associates to worship the same deities that I worship, and I feel arguing about such things is likely quite counterproductive. If some nobles feel a divine mandate or a mundane one, as long as they recognize their duties that is of the most importance.

Sovereign Court

Lady Henderthane returns from a long trip, her Order of the Chain Hellknight plate now bearing some imagery of a griffon bound in the chains. After reviewing notes about how the conversation continued in her absence she speaks.

”Lady d’Apcher is correct that Lady Morilla has instructed us to abandon the Taldan front. Her experiences there show that most of the Taldan nobility care only for their own self aggrandizement and many tried to take credit for her work fighting the hordes of the Worldwound. We need to think more globally. I know some agents that have had the opportunity to work with nobles from Alkenstar, and I hope to be making a trip to Tian Xia to see what opportunities may await us there in the near future.

While there may still be some Taldan nobles worth recruiting to our cause, our focus should not be upon those that have in general turned their backs upon the world. Great deeds are always in need of doing and this society of ours will be one to help influence these deeds throughout Golarion. When another crises like that at the Worldwound arises I hope that we will have enough allies to guide the outcome in the way that will best benefit us.

Considering such actions as overthrowing regimes should be dismissed outright from this group, we aren’t seeking to create new Galts or Andorans. We seek to be able to influence those that already wield power, perhaps even in places like Galt or Andoran. I have heard some encouraging news that there may be rising players of power in Andoran, I believe some have referred to them as career politicians, though I know Major Maldris is looking to try and keep them down with accusations of corruption, they may be of use to us.

So in all I say we should look outward moreso than inward at an outdated and increasingly irrelevant nation.”

While philosophical discussion on religion may be interesting it is leading us off topic. I apologize for the points that I have made that helped to lead us away from our more pertinent discussion. I do completely agree with Ivy Underfoot, that it is the duty of the aristocracy to protect the common folk. As I quoted the creed of my order earlier, we are also taught that the chain binds in both directions and creates duties and responsibilities for those with power. If you had heard my earlier discussions with Ozymandias, the one who organized this discussion, you will see that I have supported such notions quite strongly. Perhaps an eighth point to be added to the register of duties, something along the lines of:

8. We shall endeavor to protect and provided suitable infrastructure for those common folk under our authority. It is our duty to provide for those who look up to us for leadership.

I also have no objections to working with others to unite this group of aristocracy, regardless of religion. I just urge that lawfulness is more useful than chaos for organizing society and maintaining power. Working together will help us achieve much more than what we can accomplish individually. Also we are all members of the Pathfinder Society and thus have a Duty to Cooperate with one another already.

"Lord Ozuman, The Prince of Darkness, does not lie. He may deceive if one does not examine a bargain or contract carefully, but he does not lie.

Varkiss, indeed one of my first points was in regards to the ignorance of the differences of Devils and Demons, and as a Child of the Temple I was quite appalled to think someone would think my countryfolk associate with such as Demons.

As for preferring the Prince of Darkness, over The Inheritor, I must say this is for a few reasons. First the mercy that The Inheritor suggests one have in their hearts for the weak, is somewhat antithetical to the teachings of Hellknights in that through mercy chaos can grow. I do admire her bravery and her willingness to combat the demonic hordes of the Worldwound, and I even wear a ring emblazoned with her symbol upon it. This ring was given to me by the Paracountess Zarta Dralneen as a personal gift and helps me keep myself presentable even in the most despicable places. I believe such a ring is known as a Knight Inheritor's Ring, and I certainly feel no shame in bearing The Inheritor's sword upon my hand, while I bear The Prince of Law's pentacle upon my chest.

I also respect Abadar and his followers. Ultimatly though only Asmodeous teaches the supremacy of law and order and hierarchy without regard for so called good and evil. I shall leave you with the creed of my Order: 'All men lift themselves up upon the backs of others.' It is only through order that society will be able to maintain power, someday order maybe so well established that people such as me may no longer be needed to enforce such upon the world."

”Cheliax is ruled by law, we utilize the model of Hell, and bend devils to do our work, only traitors such as Algorn or Tancred Desmire traffic with Demons. Traffic with Demons will only lead to anarchy, through chaos can society crumble. It is my duty and those of all Hellknights to fight anarchy and chaos whenever possible. The only time I would ever work with someone associated with demons, would be through my duty to cooperate as a member of the Society, and I have had to do so in the past.

I believe that as people who have a potential for power and influence it is our duty in the Sovereign Court to work together regardless of nation of origin, I have purposefully held my tongue upon opinions of some nations such as Andoran, though I do believe their ideals of democracy may threaten our way of life, and of course at all costs we must try and avoid the fate of Galt in any of our dealings. As nobles we should be wary of those that would suggest nobility as a target to be abolished.

Lord Greymane raised perhaps the most valid point that this organization was not formed to determine ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ and we should continue to focus our attention to obtaining allies and solidifying our base of power.”

"I see that we have been joined by another very prestigious member of the society, welcome Master Solail. I would like to point out that Lady Gabrielle d'Apcher is also an extremely famous member of our Society as well, and it would be my honor, and the honor of the rest of us, to follow in the footsteps of these two famous individuals.

Lady Violetta and Dorian Dryden raise very poignant and valid points to this discussion and I too agree that we have taken things beyond what might be reasonable. I support Ozymandias's motion to remove the Bill of Rights. Contracts are extremely important to the proper function of society and I too believe that the Register of Duties still has merit. Even if we find some land that doesn't honor a contract, the Prince of Law himself values their upholding. I can think of nothing else to add to the Register of Duties at this time, but I am certainly happy to hear more suggestions from others."

Lady Jasmine looks quite annoyed to be interrupted, and obviously upset by one of the interlopers lack of respect. She does not object to the polite interruptions, nor to their being offered tea.
"Well I may have to have words with Xaratos later, after our work is concluded. He may not like the fact that my attention has been brought to him This statement while not directly threatening to him is very sinister in its delivery (take 10 on Intimidate for 41).

Jasmine then takes a cup of tea delicately from one of the servants.
"Well back to business then, the duties discussed are looking quite well done, so I propose going over Baron Francisco de La Scaramanga's work. Here are some proposed changes to his outline. I believe that while it is quite obvious that we are better than the common rabble, it should not be so rampant in our constitution as appearances must be maintained, and it is our duty to ensure their well being, after all unhealthy and abused commoners cannot provide the labor required to support us.

Article 1 - The nobility, gifted by the divine and affirmed by the gods with certain unalienable rights notably property, servants, good wine, and fine horses. It is the right and duty of the local nobility to protect the populace, and sort out any banditry, for further duties see the Register of Duties.
Article 2 - The sovereign court does not abide lawlessness, piracy, or poor fashion sense.
Article 3 - The sovereign court hereby deems all powers not covered by this document to be held in trust to the local nobles, who may by their affirmation grant limited powers upon others. That trust is of course temporary (see article 4).
Article 4 - To guarantee the role of interstate trade, any power deemed necessary by a simple majority of the nobility will be rendered to the sovereign court.
Article 5 - The sovereign court does not openly endorse any religion, although it perfectly within the realms of Articles 3 and 4 to do so at leisure.
Article 6 - The right to yield in combat must be adhered to strictly, unless an accident happens, especially in regards to nobles on either side of the conflict.
Article 7 - The right to a trial by combat is given only to those landed nobles accused of a crime. The realm shall choose a champion, the noble may choose a champion if the field is muddy.

These I think propose a good start to this list."

A beautiful Chelaxian woman with fiery red hair and striking emerald green eyes enters behind the young man. She is wearing deep red Hellknight armor when she enters. Her bronze shield is stylized with a magnificent lion's head. She dismisses the man in the livery with a wave of her hand.

"Ah, while I no longer work for Zarta Dralneen, primarily due to her no longer working for Cheliax, I don't feel that she did anything to betray her country of origin. Trancred Desmire led Cheliax into betraying Zarta, through the use of falsified documents. You should probably be able to question him, as I am fairly certain Zarta would keep him around to torment after I delivered him to her loving embrace. I would gladly stand by the members of Zarta's Dark Archive to protect her if any Red Mantis came after her, but I doubt that it will be necessary as Her Infernal Magistrix surly realizes the truth of the matter. "Oh, I am sure that Lord Deacon and I could have quite a discussion, but this is not the place for it. Of course our first duty is to always impress influential folks at any opportunity, there is no reason that we cannot also pursue creating a document to guide this organization while not on active duty.

I propose the following additional duty toward the goals of increasing the influence of this organization:
6. We shall attempt to always impress any influential member of society whether their position of power comes from appointment, birth, election, or earned. By impressing those that we come across our own influence shall grow.

I look forward to hearing everyone's thoughts about this."

Lady Jasmine turns toward Lord Deacon "I am quite interested in the title you wish to reclaim, I would be happy to help reestablish nobles in Andoran, and together we might wield considerable influence, as I am also an Eagle Knight and I hold a writ of appreciation from The People's Council. If you are interested in pursuing this discussion we might continue it elsewhere as it isn't pertinent to the discussion at hand"

Jasmine is not really interested in helping the interests of Andoran as it currently stands, nor is she really interested in hiding her thoughts on the matter.

"Constantine, dear. Laws are binding in all directions, not just downward. As are chains, perhaps you should come learn about the Order of the Chain. Every person plays an important and distinct role for preserving the fabric of society. Society will only be as strong as the weakest link. Your message of using strength only to determine authority would likely lead to chaos, having well defined laws are necessary for society to function. Servants must be treated fairly enough or they will not be able to continue serving their function for society, anyone who thinks otherwise will have my order to face."

Jasmine nods to Ozymandias. "Ah yes, Glorymane is quite the companion, it is a shame he cannot speak in this form. My good Marquis, I would like to point out that my order not only seeks out escaped slaves, it is our duty to make sure slave owners treat their property fairly and obey the laws regarding the institution. For instance, I would not think to take any slaves with me while traveling in Andoran. It is in punishing illegal slavery that I won my honoring by the Twilight Talons and earned the rank of Eagle Knight."

Jasmine turns toward the new comer. "Mr Reynard, I completely agree with you that being a noble gives one responsibility to ensure the safety and prosperity of the people we govern and should be reflected in our charter or constitution. Ozymandias makes very good points about allowing for alternative interpretations of various use of text to help a diverse group like ours come together under a single banner. I think that we can proceed with either the Bill of Rights or the Register of Duties, though it does seem like some here may wish to start with the Register of Duties."

I think using a model of the Magna Carta would work fine.

Her bronze shield is stylized with a magnificent lion's head. With a wave of her hand her armor changes into a lovely red ball gown that matches her plentiful jewelry. The young man that introduced her leaves as it is obvious that that wave of her hand also dismissed him.

"I believe that Ozymandias makes several good points, and his preamble seems to be well written. A strong contract is the foundation of all civilization, when they are broken only chaos ensues. I support this idea of creating a constitution for our organization, but we should not endeavor to place ourselves beyond the laws that govern the nations of the Inner Seas, respect for law and authority will help us gather allies.
I don't think our organization has any reason to hide itself my friends. We can strength our own power and standing as well as supporting rulers of various nations. The true heart of my nobility lies with Cheliax, and until recently I worked with the Paracountess Zarta Dralneen, but my influence extends throughout the Inner Sea. I hope to use this organization to gather influential friends to help increase my families standing with House Thrune. I do not see why others might not do the same in their home nations and together we will have the ears of all of the powerful rules in Golarion. I have long sought to bring honor to the name of my house, and raise its esteem in the eyes of House Thrune. I feel that my goals will be better met by working with fellow nobles rather than in a Dark Archive. I am also happy that I succeeded in tracking down your disappearance, freeing you from Hell, and most recently bring the dog Tancred Desmire to justice and your tender care. While I value my service to you and the boons you have brought me, I must say I do not believe that my talents will serve you well in your current pursuits.

As you know I seek to bring glory and honor to my family's name and to help return them to Thrune's Favor. Lord Drear, it is good to consider joining a hellknight order. I have found joining the Order of the Chain to have granted me a great deal of respect and fear from my enemies. I favor the flail as a weapon and find that chains are evocative and useful in so many ways so the order of the chain was a natural fit. I have even found my duties as a member of the order to coincide with a particular Eagle Knight mission (They even named me an Eagle Knight afterward, quite amusing). The slavers were avoiding tariffs, and we found the slavers to be forcing rituals of chaos onto the slaves. We in the order of the chain like to emphasis that chains bind both ways. While slaves may have their place, those in power also have responsibilities to the law for those under them. In the right circumstances chains can also lead to quite a lot of fun, if you wish to know more about this aspect of chains, tell the Paracountess that Marquise d'Railford, Lady Jasmine Henderthane sends her regards.

Sovereign Court

I have loved my time working with Paracountess Zarta Dralneen, but it seems her aims may be moving away for the type of power and influence I wish to wield. I will treasure working with allies of the Paracountess though, especially if they deliver messages to her for me. Zarta has been quite helpful for me achieving much of my success, including joining the Order of the Chain and becoming a Marquise among other titles, that my herald would love to share. I will always care for the Paracountess, and remember fondly her embrace after I rescued her from hell. I also look forward to the day that I can return the traitor Desmire to Cheliax in chains. My goals however, seem to be more closely aligned with The Sovereign Host and I think I shall be joining them. I wish to extend my influence as much as possible, and I think that using my noble ties will be the most effective avenue for this.

Sovereign Court

I am quite amused that I have been given membership in your organization. I performed a task for your Twilight Talons, I was first drawn to the task as the slavers under investigation seemed to be dodging tarifs. I discovered that they were mistreating the slaves quite heavily, involved in some dark Lamashtan rituals. As was my duty as an Order of th Chain Hellknight, I punished those slavers for their transgresions. Know that while I hold title in your group, I will not be party to any unlawful actions and am duty bound to return escaped slaves to their owners.

1. Why are you a Pathfinder?

To gain fame and power, and restore some glory to the name Henderthane.

2. Do you have a name and surname that is not ripped straight out of existing Earth mythology or popular culture?

My surname especially is a name with some pedigree in Cheliax. My family, the Henderthanes, were once the primary arms suppliers of House Thrune. The misfortune that has fallen on the primary patriarch of our House and his offspring is one of the reasons I joined the Pathfinder Society. My father raises mounts for the Chelish army, and is one reason that my training started as a cavalry soldier, and he still helps send me a new mount when something happens to my current one. I have since joining the society added many titles to my name including: Marquise of Taldor, Hellknight of the Order of the Chain, and Eagle Knight of Andoran. I plan to one day add Venture-Captain to my growing list of titles.

3. Which nation did you grow up in? How did this nation influence you?

Cheliax, my early education was provided by the Church of Asmodeus. My education has influenced my desire to join the Hellknights greatly, as well as influencing my world views on many points.

4. What do you look like? What are your wearing? How does this vary when you’re stalking through forests, sewers, deserts or in glittering cities?

I am a beautiful Cheliaxian woman of average height and weight with fiery red hair and green eyes. I am most commonly found wearing my blood-red Hellknight Plate, though it sometimes appears without its spikes or as a wonderful evening gown, as it is glamoured. I also wear a lavish gold unholy symbol of Asmodeus. I also enjoy wearing my extremely fashionable noble's finery when in a more relaxed environment. Much of my wardrobe is designed to work with my very lovely boots of the cat.

5. What do you love? (Treasure and experience doesn’t count)

I love myself first, my fame second, and power third. I also love seeing fear in my enemies eyes, and lust in the eyes of those that might enjoy my company.

6. What do you hate? (Unclear and irritating darkness level rules don’t count)

I hate losing, being shamed, or having to flee. I hate when people don't acknowledge my breeding and my deeds. I hate being dirty or un-presentable, though Zarta has recently given me something to help with this.[/i[

7. Which other Pathfinders (PCs) do you rely on for teamwork, survival and butt-kicking? Do you have a bro? a mentor? a father figure? maybe a rival?

[i]I have many stanch allies that I have worked with during my time as a pathfinder. First Zarta has brought me in and provided many opportunities for increasing my fame and prestige, and I have repaid her with rescue from Hell. Rarty a mystic thurge has accompanied me on many missions and we have certainly enjoyed our time afterward as well, though I find it strange that she seems to always want to include my horses in such activities. She saved my life in perhaps my most difficult encounter to date, by making a mighty sacrifice. Most of those I work with don't really respect me as much as I would expect, but they have proven to be stanch companions many times.

8. How does your race influence your views? Are you a stereotype of a certain race? How are you different from most humans/elves/gnomes/orcs/tengu?

I was raised to believe that humans are the most deserving of respect and have lived much of my life with this belief, though many of my companions in the Society have proven to be stanch allies despite their often less than pure blood.

9. What are you afraid of? Do you have any phobias or worries?

My biggest fear is being forgotten. I worry about not being remembered after I die, or suffering a pointless death without glory.

10. What is your most treasured possession?

My most treasured possession is my life, but after that it would be my command of Fangwood Keep. Physical possesions that I treasure include my shield, Glorymane, my Hellknight Plate, and my Knight-Inheritor's Ring (a gift from my beloved Paracountess).
