Jak turns from tying the goblin … only to see the fight is already over.

”Woah! Nice work, boys!”

He looks at the now-bound goblin, shrugs, and jogs towards the house. ”Let’s keep our eyes peeled. I hear goblins can be sneaky little buggers.”

Remind me, this was the farmstead we were supposed to come ask about the previous goblin attacks?

Jak stops near the door, looking around for further threats before giving his winningest grin at the group. ”You folks look like you could use a hand or four. Food can wait. Thanks. What happened here?”

Perception check for any remaining threats or oddities about the situation.

"Agreed. We should expect more in either the house or with the horse." Jak casts around for a way to tie his little captive in spot, preparing for the upcoming fight. He looks at all the distance between themselves and the mounted goblin, "I'm not really the sneaky sort, and that little dog looks fast."

He shrugs, "Bum rush it and hit it with some kind of Daze again?"

Jak wants to find a tree or bush or fence post to tie the goblin to during our surprise round, if that's possible. If one is not available, he'll just lay it on the ground (which I guess would be his action?)

Yeah, let's hang onto the potions, in case you guys need to get Jak back on his feet.

Jak quickly applies healing to Theo.

CLW charges, x2: 2d8 + 2 ⇒ (1, 7) + 2 = 10
That should top you off.

He looks around, checking the area quickly for any last minute needs. "Everyone ready to roll?"

So the one remaining goblin is bound? Jak will actually grab that one up and bring it with us. I don't think it's weight would make Jak encumbered or anything.

He sets off towards the screaming at a jog.

Liberty's Edge

Jak shakes his head, pulling out his wand and putting it to good use. "Anyone else have wands to use?"

I'l go ahead and use the previous healing rolls for Jak. Anyone else need hits off mine?

As he waits for a response, he begins moves to the only not-dead goblin, pulls out his rope, and binds it.

Jak stands panting, grimacing at the pain from various cuts. "Maybe we can catch it. Maybe not. But we can't go running through goblin-infested woods in our condition."

Keeping his shield ready, he stows his morningstar before pulling a crooked wand from his pack. "Do any of you also have healing wands or abilities?"

Jak is able to activate any CLW wands we have. If Jak has the only one, he'll make sure everyone is topped off so we can continue.

Starting with himself...
Wand of CLW, 4 charges: 9 + 4d8 + 4 ⇒ 9 + (1, 7, 3, 3) + 4 = 27

As he employs the wand, he surveys the field. "So, what now? Do we press on? I mean, I'm guessing he ran off in the direction we're actually headed, right?"

"I see your point," Jak grunts as two more attacks bang off his shield.

He sidesteps to keep the goblin squarely between himself and Theo then smashes his morningstar down again. "Gotta even these odds, though," he grunts through clenched teeth ... the mounting damage was taking its toll.

So, Theo's a fighter. Eurkar's a monk. Drin's a wizard. Does that mean Jak is the only one of us capable of healing?

This is getting closer than I had expected, and I may need to make some smart decisions in the next round or two.

True, but I was thinking maybe everything up until this point was pretty much self-defense. And from this point forward, I saw an opportunity to let them stand down. Oh well, it was worth a shot. :)

Jak scowls down at his arrow-scarred shield, then over at Drin and Eurkar. "You heard me offer peace." He jogs north along the river, looking for a good place to jump across.

"Whatever else happens is on them," he mutters as he gets a running start and leaps across the river, closing on one of the goblins harassing Theo.

Trying to jump across the river without provoking AoO's. I put lines on the map to show his route to get that done. Aaaaand the jump check (+10 for his 40ft speed, -2 for the added ACP of his shield).

If that drops the Red dog-thing, Jak will then circle clock-wise around the remaining threat(s) to take a potential flanking position for the next attacker. Id’ like him to end directly below their square, so someone can step up next to Eurkar and make a flanking attack attempt (I believe his 40 speed is enough to accomplish that without provoking AoO’s.

Jak's song reaches a crescendo, the young brawler roaring the latest verse as if it's a challenge directly to their little disguised attackers. This verse is about the unfortunate turn the story takes, where the wolf-in-sheepskins meets the town's executioner, whose blade swings with such finality. As he spits out each word at the goblins, he takes a circling step, bringing one of the goblins directly between himself and Theo.

Then the morningstar falls once more.

Maintain Performance. 5' step south, then attack Green (w/ flank)

The second verse of the song continues, and the wolf-in-sheep's clothing infiltrates the party, mixing in with the Taldan nobles and sewing chaos with his lies. Jak belts it out in his deep tenor voice as he swats at the nearest goblin.

Assessing the numbers remaining, he slings his shield into place.

Maintain Performance (free; 2 of fame 6 used), then 2-handed attack on Green.

I would have mentioned it in-character when Drin asked, but Jak does have a cold iron morningstar, should it be useful.

Jak lights up at the prospect of some action. With a wink at his group, he rushes forward, pulling a notably dull-gray morningstar from his hip. As he rushes forward, he begins yelling out a song … a song about a wolf in sheep’s clothing trying to sneak into a Taldan dance. His energy with the lyrics is contagious, and you feel yourself energized with every shouted word.

Jak moves into position (map updated), drawing his cold iron morninstar on the way. He also activates Inspire Courage +1.

Knowledge: History: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
Knowledge: Local: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24

I won’t complain about those rolls. O.o

Two weeks can be a long time traveling, but Jak seems to be in his element. The young man laughs often, smiles constantly, draws his fellow travelers into whatever conversations they seem interested in, and he is always ready to spin a tale to pass the time.

And as the group of you all stand waiting for your interview with the Mayor, he lowers his voice, pitching it so only you can hear. ”Ya know,” he mutters quietly as he nods respectfully at a passing local trader, ”the ferrymen and boat workers from our trip actually had quite a bit to say about this place, once you got them to open up…”

He goes on to tell you guys everything he’s heard, pausing only when someone comes close enough to overhear. And any time a local does pass by, the tall Taldan doesn’t give his usual hearty smile and ‘hello’, but instead gives a conservative, respectful nod.

Basiclly, I hit all the DC’s for those spoilers. Instead of copy/pasting them all again, feel free to read through them and pretend that they were re-told in Jak’s words. :)
That should save us all some time (and maybe some mis-information should I misrepresent anything).

A tall, athletic human struts out behind you guys. His mismatched clothes looked rumpled and slept-in, but somehow he makes it all work. He’s handsome enough in a rugged sort of way, though he seems to be sporting an only-mostly-healed black eye.

He grins as he follows you all out, rubbing his hands in anticipation. ”Goblin wars. Strange activity. Something called a Chitterwood.” He breaks into a massive, friendly grin, ”This should be a blast!”

He nods at each of the others as they introduce themselves. ”Nice to meetcha Drin. Theo. Eurkar. Call me Jak.” He winks over at Eurkar, ”And I’m happy to rub elbows with some locals. Never know what fun tales regular folks might be able to tell.”

He settles his backpack, adjusting his greatsword so it doesn’t get in the way. ”We better hurry. I hear there’s a boat waiting for us.”
