Hi everyone.
Migrating from an heavily houseruled 5E to PF2E and I have a question about PF2E Experience Point awards.

If the party is composed of six PCs, but the encounter is built for four PCs, is it OK to me to not add additional monsters to the encounter, but award fewer XP to each PC for the encounter?

Suppose that the party of six PCs had an encounter worth 40 XP for a four PC party. Would it be OK to award each of the six PCs 26 XP?

4 x 40 = 160 XP
160 XP / 6 = 26 XP

What are the rules concerning hiring mercenaries to accompany the party on (deadly) adventures?

Not considering magic items or ability scores, what is the best bonus to attacks with weapons a character can get? Is it +8 for Legendary Proficiency?

What else is there?

2 people marked this as a favorite.

Why is multi-classing only available via archetypes in PF2?

Why didn't PF2 keep PF1-Style multi-classing?

Hi, everyone.

I'm still trying to digest the basics of Pathfinder 2nd Edition.

Tonight, I was looking at the Barbarian class and I noticed something that seems odd, to me.

At level 7, the Barbarian gains Weapon Specialization and it notes that the Barbarian gains an additional 4 damage if he or she is legendary.

How can a barbarian become legendary in a weapon by 7th level?

... and other ranged weapons.

Is there any restriction against using a shortbow when standing right next to your target?

Just wondering.

Thanks in advance. :)

Hi, everyone.

What level is the average human in PF2?

And, how rare are higher level human NPCs?

Just wondering if the assumption that 95% of the population is 1st level is accurate?

And, maybe 2% are 2nd or 3rd level? And, another 1% are 4th or 5th level?

And, higher levels are even rarer?

Just wondering.

Thank you.

I like the Bulk rules for PF2. Really like them.

But, I seem to recall seeing something similar somewhere else.

Does anyone know what other d20 TRPG might also have Bulk rules?

Thanks.

Hi, everyone,

I've been looking around the site for pregenerated characters for Pathfinder Seconde Edition. So far, I haven't found what I'm looking for.

Is there a PDF file with some pregenerated characters available somewhere? If so, please provide a link as I cannot locate it at this time.

Thank you.

Do the rules allow for just taking another class when levelling up?

If I'm a first level fighter and I earn 2nd level, can that level be the first level of Wizard?

Hi, everyone.

I was not able to participate in the playtest, but now that PF2 is out, I've been looking at the PFRD for PF2 on Nethys and I like what I see.

My main issue is that our group has been playing an hybrid of several editions of the game based on the PF1 chassis. From what I've been able to digest of the PF2 chassis, the math appears much more streamlined while still allowing for optimum diversity between characters. And, from a very brief observation of some of the monsters, PF2 looks to be easier to GM (which is a definite strength, in my opinion).

The Rosetta Stone for conversion for me is to map out how the action economy converts from PF1 to PF2. Has this already been done? I'm not necessarily looking for a full conversion guide, just a conversion of the action economy.

Thank you.

Do weapons do different damage by size, like they did in PF1E?

Hi, everyone.

Just wondering if there was an official Pathfinder Koalinth.

From looking around, I haven't located one in the Bestiary or the SRD.

As best as I can determine, a Koalinth is an aquatic Hobgoblin.

If there is no official Koalinth, would adding the Aquatic Creature template to a regular Hobgoblin suffice? Or, would it leave something off?

Thank you.

1. How can a character gain extra feats without gaining levels?

2. Can a character train during downtime to learn an extra feat? If so, what timeframe is required and how much does it cost?

Having read a little about the new action economy of Pathfinder 2E, I'm left wondering why six second combat rounds are necessary?

Three actions and a reaction every six seconds. Why not shorter rounds? Perhaps, two seconds with just one action and possibly a reaction?

Why are six second combat rounds necessary?

I think this is the number one product for Pathfinder Second Edition that I will be looking forward to.

I don't know that it is even planned, but the original Beginner's Box was one of my favorite Pathfinder purchases during the first edition era.

1. What is the best way to speed up combat?

2. Would it be fair to cut monster hit points in half, but double monster damage output?

Hi, everyone.

I'm looking at the pre-generated 7th level barbarian for Pathfinder Society and I noticed something that seems very specific.

She has Weapon Focus (Large bastard sword).

Do characters that take the weapon focus feat have to specify the size of the weapon that it applies to if the weapon size doesn't match the character's size?

For instance, if this barbarian picked up a medium sized bastard sword, would she not be able to apply her weapon focus feat to it?

Thank you.

If Bear's Endurance were cast on a dead body, would it have it's normal effects upon that body (+4 enhancement bonus to Constitution) even though the target is dead?

In Ultimate Campaign, one of the downtime activities is Earning XP for what seems to be off-camera adventures that are too easy to need to play out for the PC.

Have any of you used it? Does it create problems? What are your experiences with it? Do you recommend allowing it?

Do ability score bonuses ever apply to Caster Level Checks (such as to overcome Spell Resistance)?

Hi, everyone.

When creating new classes (or converting classes from other editions of the Game), are there any guidelines as to when a class should have Fly as a class skill?

So far, as best as I can determine, Fly should be a class skill if that class grants some means of flying. For instance, the druid might transform into a flying animal. While the wizard or sorcerer might cast the Fly spell.

Are there any other guidelines I should be award of?

Does this look correct? Am I missing anything?

1. Decipher spell. DC 20+ Spell Level. 1 hour per spell level.

2. Study spell. 1 hour. DC 15+ spell level.

3. Write spell into spellbook. 1 hour per spell level.

Thank you.

Are the Ability Score Increases that are received at character levels 4, 8, 12, 16, and 20 untyped bonuses? Or, are they typed? If so, what type of bonus are they?

I vaguely remember them being typed in 3.5, but I don't remember what type they were or if the typing carried over.

I also think I remember there being a limit to no more than 5 such bonuses to a single ability score. Is this still true in Pathfinder?

Hi, everyone.

1. I just want to confirm that a Monk's AC Bonus would stack with the Draconic Bloodline Sorcerer's Draconic Resistances' natural armor bonus?

I'm thinking yes, because they are different types of bonuses.

2. If such a character were to somehow gain the ability to apply a different ability modifier to armor class, would that stack with the Monk's Wisdom bonus to armor class, too?

Greetings, Pathfinders!

My players have built up a roster of characters and have become fascinated with the idea of having a seagoing vessel for shipping and/or piracy. And, they have the gold to buy one.

In looking at Ultimate Campaign, I see the rules for downtime for various businesses, but I'm not seeing anything that looks like it directly relates to a ship. Some of the pieces appear to be there, but I'm still learning those rules.

Is Ultimate Campaign the best place to look for the rules on running a business with a sea going vessel? Especially, income and expenses?

If not, where else should I look?

What feat or other rule would allow an elf (or a non-elf with Exotic Weapon Proficiency (Elven Curve Blade)) with one hand?

Thank you.

Good morning, everyone.

Does the Augment Summoning feat affect a summoners eidolon?

One of the things I like about the Starfinder Roleplaying Game is that anyone can make two attacks at -4/-4 instead of their normal attack bonus for a single attack.

Our group added that rule to our house rules for Pathfinder, this past weekend and it worked great. Ultimately, only one character used it, but he was the character with the highest effective attack bonus in the group.

So, I got to thinking, what would the modifier need to be for it to be balanced against normal iterative attacks while allowing a character to get 3 or 4 attacks?

Two attacks at -4/-4 versus an iterative (+0/-5) seems balanced.

Would three attacks at -6/-6/-6 be balanced against iteratives of +0/-5/-10 ???

How about four attacks at -8/-8/-8/-8 against iteratives of +0/-5/-10/-15 ???

Hi, everyone.

I'm working on an area set underground in an inactive volcano (that will not become active, any time soon) that used to be ruled by Kopru (an aquatic race from 3X DnD), but it is now semi controlled by ettercaps with a link to the underdark.

The characters are between 1st and 7th level, with most falling toward the higher end.

I would like some suggestions for some spider-themed encounters that don't utilize drow (for now), perhaps utilizing ettercaps.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you.

PRD-Counterspells:
Counterspells
It is possible to cast any spell as a counterspell. By doing so, you are using the spell's energy to disrupt the casting of the same spell by another character. Counterspelling works even if one spell is divine and the other arcane.

How Counterspells Work: To use a counterspell, you must select an opponent as the target of the counterspell. You do this by choosing to ready an action. In doing so, you elect to wait to complete your action until your opponent tries to cast a spell. You may still move at your normal speed, since ready is a standard action.

If the target of your counterspell tries to cast a spell, make a Spellcraft check (DC 15 + the spell's level). This check is a free action. If the check succeeds, you correctly identify the opponent's spell and can attempt to counter it. If the check fails, you can't do either of these things.

To complete the action, you must then cast an appropriate spell. As a general rule, a spell can only counter itself. If you are able to cast the same spell and you have it prepared (or have a slot of the appropriate level available), you cast it, creating a counterspell effect. If the target is within range, both spells automatically negate each other with no other results.

Counterspelling Metamagic Spells: Metamagic feats are not taken into account when determining whether a spell can be countered.

Specific Exceptions: Some spells can counter other specific spells, often those with diametrically opposed effects.

Dispel Magic as a Counterspell: You can usually use dispel magic to counterspell another spell being cast without needing to identify the spell being cast. Dispel magic doesn't always work as a counterspell (see the spell description).

If a spell has no somatic, verbal, or material components, how does one know that the opponent is trying to cast a spell? Are there telltale signs (such as the glow on the caster's wand and in the caster's eyes on page 207 of the Core Rulebook) that would give away that a spell is being cast?

Just wondering why the mail it has doesn't get iterative with all six of her swords? And, how would she have to be modified to do so?

Hi, everyone...

Just thinking about Pathfinder and 3.X in general and about the linear warrior versus quadratic spellcaster issue...

I think I may have read about this houserule in some strange past aeon...

Casters advance must earn two levels to advance one level. Thus non-casters advance twice as fast.

Has anyone had any experience with this? Would it be a good or a bad change for a new campaign (perhaps set in a world somewhat like Conan's, or Primeval Thule, or the Hyperborea of Astonishing Swordsmen and Sorcerors)?

Is anyone else having issues accessing the PF Adventure Path page from an android tablet?

Most other pages on the site work fine, but couldn't get that one to load, at all.

Thank you.

Are there any abilities which grant an extra melee weapon attack through the use of a swift or immediate action?

Is there any way for a character to gain a bonus to a skill that effectively doubles the skill points put into it?

For instance, if I wanted to put one point per level into disable device, what would allow me to treat it as if I'd put two points into it?

Having spent some time looking into this, yesterday, it seems that Dex to damage is very hard to get in the PF RPG. I read some discussions about how allowing it can make Strength a dump stat.

Although there are a few ways to get it, mostly related to being a dervish swashbuckler (not sure of the official archetype name), the purest way to get it with all finesse weapons would be via Mythic Weapon Finesse (which is only available to characters when the Mythic Rules are in play and the character has somehow become mythic). Mythic Pathfinder is still an unknown to me. So, I'm not sure how hard that is to get.

Ultimately, for this, I may settle upon a house-ruled feat that requires Weapon Finesse as a pre-requisite and probably only open to fighters of 4th level and higher.

Greater Weapon Finesse
You're an expert with weapons that rely on your agility.
Prerequisite: Weapon Finesse, fighter level 4th or base attack bonus +6.
Benefit: When using Weapon Finesse, you may also use your Dexterity modifier instead of your Strength modifier on your damage rolls. If you carry a shield, its armor check penalty doesn't apply to either the attack rolls or the damage rolls.

Would that be fair enough?

Hi, everyone.

I don't think there's an official rule allowing a character to have more than one archetype of a class, so I was wondering how allowing a character to somehow gain a second class archetype would affect things?

I'm guessing that in most cases, it won't increase the character's power level to greatly, but it may improve their flexibility.

Have you tried this? If so, how was it?

If not, would you consider allowing it in your game? What drawbacks do you think it might bring?

Hi, everyone.

I've been looking over the retraining rules from Ultimate Campaign and a question occurred to me...

Is it possible to retrain a class archetype? If so, what are the rules?

Would Primeval Thule fit anywhere in Golarion?

Specifically, I'm interested in the 5E Warlock... But, any conversion guidelines might be helpful.

Also, how much are 5E feats worth compared to PF feats? I'm guesstimating them at about the value of 2 PF feats. Any thoughts?

One of my goals would be to be able to convert from 5E to PF and from PF to 5E.

How much of a CR adjustment should be made for monsters with half of their normal XP?

(Assuming all other statistics remain the same.)

Any advice on converting AE classes to PFRPG?

I'm especially concerned about the 21st to 25th levels, since PFRPG only goes to 20th. Would these classes just lose them? Or, are the PFRPG core classes strong enough to stand side-by-side with 25 level classes?

Also, could the class features from the AE 21st to 25th level be moved down to 16th through 20th without making the classes too strong next to PFRPG classes?

Just read a review of 13th Age on Enworld.org.

The playtester explained that that game uses an escalation die. A great big d6 that sits on the table and is used by the GM to count up after the first round (maxing out at +6). In 13th Age, the PC's get to add that number to their to hit rolls (and other things).

What if Pathfinder had an escalation die for critical threat ranges? It would make combat more dangerous as the fights wore on. By the 7th round of combat and beyond, the chances of getting a critical threat would be 30% higher.

Thoughts/Comments?
