"A pot of tea. One cup." Tetsumaru says as he gives his order to the servant having decided to take a break in between events. He had come to one of the inns nearest the venue.

"No single clan can represent the entire culture of Rokugan though the Crane lead when it comes to setting trends. The Crab have defended the empire from the Shadowlands since the dawn of the empire. The First Hantei gave the Scorpion the duty of watching for internal threats though all clans are responsible for keeping the Emperor's peace in their own authority."
Tetsumaru states his answer in a less than flowery language than the Lion.

Ah, at least I did not fail horribly. Winning was a very longshot anyway. Tetsumaru shrugs at hearing the results.

When do we continue?

Mine was about staying true to one's duty even through the passage of time. Like Hachiko the dog who waited endlessly until he died.

At the end of his recital Tetsumaru makes way for the next contestant. Once out of sight he releases the breath he didn't realize he was holding.

Testumaru bows to his opponent as he enters the ring. At the judge's signal the Crab samurai draws his katana and clears his mind in preparation to strike.

In a blink of an eye he the Hida moves and strikes his opponent.

Tired after all the excitement Tetsumaru decides to have a pot of tea to relax before heading to bed.

Testumaru keeps silent to hopefully not embarrass himself in front of such high ranking people letting the Lion do the talking. The Crab samurai nods at Niko's words. "I agree. Let us rest well for tomorrow's activities. "

"Do you remember anything about the attacker Sugai-san? How tall was the attacker? Was the Badger clan daimyo the target or was it someone else and the daimyo was just an accident?" Tetsumaru asks the Scorpion.

"My lord! Tetsumaru starts with a bow to the Emerald Champion, " We heard the sounds of battle and came upon Bayushi-san surrounded by the corpses of the Badger daimyo and his guards." The Crab samurai said pointing to the corpses.

"Bayushi-san claims he killed the assassin after the assassin killed the daimyo and his guards but we have not found the body of the assassin unless Bayushi-san is saying one of the daimyo's guards killed the daimyo."

With the Lion samurai-ko attempting to grapple the Scorpion Testumaru looks around for any sort of authority he can all over, not wanting to leave the others.

Tetsumaru approaches cautiously, hand still on his katana. "An assassin? I see the bodies of four bushi and their daimyo. Which among them was the assassin?" he asked while trying to keep an eye on both the corpses and the Scorpion.

"Assassin!" Testumaru yells as he readies to draw his sword. "Attacking a daimyo? Here and now of all times and places? You will not get away with this!"

Spurned on by his curiosity Tetsumaru follows after the Lion samurai.

"It is always good to have more company!" Tetsumaru says in response to Shiko's question.

Tetsumaru's hand flies to his sword at the first sound of steel on steel though he does not draw yet. The Crab samurai nods at Kiyoko's words and approaches the source of the sound cautiously, on the look out for any surprises.

Somewhat curious, Tetsumaru moves a little closer but still far enough away to not be considered eavesdropping. He watches the happenings to see if there is anything interesting happening.

Hida Tetsumaru takes a deep breath as he glances at the Ichiro who seems to be the focus of the Lion Daimyo and the Crane negotiator. While wondering why a minor clan samurai would gather the attention of such high ranking samurai Tetsumaru is glad the attention is not on him.

Tetsumaru raises an eyebrow as he reads the invitation he received as soon as he arrived back at his place.
Did I really do well enough to attend such an event? he wonders to himself as he thinks back on his performance. I suppose little sister was right that I bring one of my better kimonos.

He proceeds to the onsen to take a bath and wash his sweat off.

Testumaru's forehead is drenched in sweat as he tries to make sense of the case presented before him.

Centering himself Tetsumaru attempts to work through the matter brought before him.

Sweat pouring down on him he is unable to make sense of the question.

Tetsumaru utters a short prayer as he approaches the venue of the next challenge. Not having a lot of experience working with horses he steels himself before mounting up.
Untrained Horsemanship 2k2: 2d10 ⇒ (3, 6) = 9
Starting up slow the Crab samurai unsheathes his katana and prepares to strike the first target.
Kenjutsu 4k2: 4d10 ⇒ (1, 9, 8, 8) = 26
With a kiai he slashes the first target. Happy at his success he turns his mount and sheathes his sword before preparing his bow.
Untrained Kyujutsu 2k2: 2d10 ⇒ (4, 1) = 5
Tetsumaru's lack of experience in riding and kyujutsu shows as he totally misses the target.
Untrained Horsemanship 2k2: 2d10 ⇒ (8, 8) = 16
Discouraged at his failure he turns back.

I don't see the results of the Heraldry role for my opponent. Did I do better?

Tetsumaru is off as soon as the signal was given. Coming up to the first obstacle the Crab tenses his legs as he attempts to jump the riverbed.

Almost making it, the Crab samurai slides into the riverbed. He takes some time to find his sandal before catching up during the run.
Run 2(2 raise) 4k3: 4d10 ⇒ (6, 10, 7, 1) = 24
Thankful that he took some time to retrieve his sandal Tetsumaru again tries to jump the next obstacle.
Obstacle 2:3k2: 3d10 ⇒ (7, 2, 7) = 16
Once past the needles Tetsumaru again runs full out in an attempt to make up for lost time.
Run 3(2 raise) 4k3: 4d10 ⇒ (1, 8, 7, 9) = 25
He weaves through the wasps before arriving at the wall.
Obstacle 3:3k2: 3d10 ⇒ (5, 6, 8) = 19
Unsuccessful in his first attempt Testumaru takes a few deep breaths and tries to climb again pulling himself up faster.

Finally over the wall Testumaru runs full out the last stretch.

Hopefully I did enough. Tetsumaru thinks to himself as he wipes the sweat from his forehead and proceeding to the next challenge. Ready

Tetsumaru tries to remember which family the mon belongs but comes up blank. He gives his best guess.

Tetsumaru bows as he is declared winner of his match. Taking a few moments to drink some water he steels himself for the next challenge.

Tetsumaru takes a deep breath before stepping into the ring and bowing to his opponent. Taking a wide stance he braces himself and moves to push his opponent out.

Having confirmed that the rumor is still a rumor Tetsumaru asks around the Crab estates to see if there is anyone or anything, beyond the usual, he should be on the look out for.

With no other event after the emperor's arrival Tetsumaru decides to check in at the Crab estate to see if the rumours of a war between Lion and Crane are true.

Tetsumaru barely makes it in time to see the ship dock. As he watches the passengers disembark he notices the emperor. Awed that he is able to see the emperor he kneels in respect.

"Thank you uncle." Tetsumaru gratefully accepts the cup with both hands and takes a sip, deciding to delay going to his rooms to have lunch first.

Once done with his meal Tetsumaru is lead to his room where he situates himself before again joining his uncle.

"I should probably take a look around for myself and familiarize myself with all the venues for the competition. Any place you recommend I look at uncle?"

"It is too early for that. Maybe for my evening meal." Tetsumaru declines the inn keepers offer.

"How long have you been here uncle? Have you taken a look around? he asks as he waits for the ink to dry on his application form.

What time did we arrive at the inn? Is it night time?

Hida Tetsumaru looks towards Emerald Champion to see if he has any other orders. The Crab samurai calls the innkeeper for a room.

"Innkeeper, I would like a room. I am Hida Tetsumaru, a participant of the Topaz Championship."

Tetsumaru takes the accepts the registration form with both hands and a bow before returning to his uncle.

"So uncle, did anyone else from the family accompany you?" he asks as he start preparing to fill out the form.

Upon Hida Tetsumaru's entrance he immediately sees a familiar face by the door. "Uncle!" The Crab samurai says in surprise. He had not expected to see his uncle here. "What brings you here?"

Tetsumaru turns around at the welcome to see someone who looks highly ranked greeting his companion. Standing at attention he introduces himself with a bow.

"My lord! Hida Tetsumaru of the Crab clan!"

Tetsumaru cocks his head as he takes in the sight of the temple. Though he has seen more impressive sights in Crab lands he had to admit the temple looked pretty good.

"Ah, I am Hida Tetsumaru." Tetsumaru says with a bow to the merchant. [b]"You have some really beautiful charms Yasuki-san. Unfortunately I think I am not worthy enough to own one of these. I must decline." Tetsumaru says as he moves back with a bow to excuse himself.

For the honor roll I would need to roll 3k3 and hope it beats 30?

"A fellow Crab! What do you have here Yasuki-san?" Tetsumaru asks as he walks up to the merchant. At the sight of the good luck charms an intense look appears on the Crab samurai's face as he appears to consider which one to pick.

Being from the same clan Tetsumaru would recognize which family the merchant is from.

"Ha! See? Bayushi-san is a reasonable man. Did your lord ask you to do anything else?" Tetsumaru looks at the peasant to see if he has any further business with the gathered samurai.

"So you are on your way to Tsuma as well? What good fortune! My journey takes me to Tsuma as well! I am heading there for the Topaz Championship. Are you participating as well?" he asks the others.

A giant man in Crab colors joins the others as the Isawa introduces himself. The Crab samurai looks around when the Phoenix greet a Hiruma in search of a clan mate.

Seeing no Hiruma nearby the man decides to introduce himself. "Greetings! I am Hida Tetsumaru!"

"Isawa-san is correct, you could've been in grave danger. If I wished, I could have you executed for harboring a samurai's weapon." Tentatively, he took the blade and inspected it carefully. It was not his grandfather's blade but, with a careful eye, he could inspect it and learn more of the weapon's history.

"Come now Bayushi-san. This man is a peasant. What else could he do if his lord commanded him to bring the sword to you?" the Hida says in defense of the old man. "It is not like he can refuse his lord, eh?"

Blissfully betrothed but her best friend has the hots for her. Tetsumaru does not even know he exists but he considers me his sworn enemy for: 1) His ancestor's dishonor for being defeated in a duel and 2) stealing his "true love" away.

Test of weapon skill for demonstration I think can use skill rolls with weapons outside of combat.
My betrothed has a childhood friend in love with her who is a descendant of a commander my ancestor killed in a duel.
