M Keleshite Sor 1 (610 XP)

I am very sad to have to post this.

Some of you may have noticed that I have not been posting much during the past month or two, and not paying strict attention to others' posts when I do. During that time, a slew of factors have been turning up in my life, conspiring to prevent me from logging onto paizo.com, or spending much time on it when I do. Therefore, I have decided to quit all PBPs in which I've been participating. Please believe me when I say that I'm not happy about this, and that I haven't made this decision on a whim.

robin seems afraid that we are bored and want the game to stop. I hope that it doesn't. I'll never forget the time when the party was charmed and I was the only one who made the saving throw, and it was up to me to save the party. I'll treasure that memory.

Perhaps someone else can play my character until he can be neatly written out. Handle it however you like. I hope that the rest of you have a fun game. Maybe one day, my life will get back to normal and I'll check in to see how you're all doing in the game.

Until then, farewell.

M Keleshite Sor 1 (610 XP)

Hasim, not particularly brave, keeps his head low, trying to use the horse as cover.

...somewhere around I-17

M Keleshite Sor 1 (610 XP)

Stealth has never been Hasim's strong suit. He's certain that he will step on a twig or make some other noise, and prove more of a hindrance than a help, if he runs ahead. Instead, he hangs back with Heren and Paul.

And after having said all that, I'll be as stealthy as I can...

Stealth 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10

M Keleshite Sor 1 (610 XP)

"Is there anyone we can trust with the money? If not, then I should explain myself..." ...in case I can't post again for a while.

"Usually, in this sort of situation, I would entrust all the party funds to one person. But we've encountered an owlbear and a harpy. To be frank, I've never been on such a dangerous expedition before. That's why I brought this matter up."

M Keleshite Sor 1 (610 XP)

When it rains, it pours! Soon after paizo.com got blocked at work, my home PC got infected with a virus. My wife put overtime into getting this machine to work... but IE no longer gets any site at all, and Firefox crashes every now and then.

I'm posting this now message now, before doing my "main" posting, in case I'm stopped from posting any more...

M Keleshite Sor 1 (610 XP)

I was wrong. The one proxy site I found worked for a few minutes, but then it went cuckoo, and then it stopped working altogether. I found a couple of other proxy sites which let me VIEW paizo.com, but not POST to it. Now I'm stuck for ideas.

M Keleshite Sor 1 (610 XP)

Okay, I found a few ways around it... although the only proxy site I found that lets me post has so many annoying pop-up ads. Still, it works. At least, until they change the filtering software at work again.

M Keleshite Sor 1 (610 XP)

Bad news. My place at work seems to have put a web blocker in place today which doesn't let me get to paizo.com. This morning, I could get in. During lunch, I couldn't. I can try some ways around it, which might work. It's also possible that my work will change its web blocking software. (It does so from time to time.) But it's also possible that I won't be able to post except from home, which I can't do very often.

M Keleshite Sor 1 (610 XP)

Should we each subtract 7 gp, or will we draw it from the "petty cash?"

M Keleshite Sor 1 (610 XP)

I spoke for splitting it. Adjunta seemed to oppose the idea, and I gave up.

M Keleshite Sor 1 (610 XP)

Hasim isn't doing anything special.

M Keleshite Sor 1 (610 XP)
robin wrote:
And 160 xp for each of you

I don't remember ever getting XP before in this campaign. Did we get any for the owlbear? Or for anything else?

Adjunta Paul wrote:
"Also Hasim," Adjunta quickly adds, "splitting up the money would still have netted the same result as before. I don't necessarily disagree with you but I am curious why you bring this up?"

"I'm sure you remember when Malgasir was robbed of everything but his boots. Imagine if he had been the one carrying the party funds. What if Ianthé is the next one to be robbed of everything? If you truly believe that we make our own fate, you shouldn't let us put all our eggs in one basket."

M Keleshite Sor 1 (610 XP)

"Begging your pardon, friends, but I must say something that you may not like.

"The first time we chased off the bird-woman, I thought that we should cut our losses. How can we kill a monster we can't chase? But when you decided to try again, I stayed silent. I didn't want you to think that my defeatist attitude was ruining your fighting spirit, and that we lost for that reason.

"But surely you must see that it was the force of Destiny that brought us into this situation. I mean, the first time the bird-woman encountered us, I was the only one to resist. And the second time, when I was resigned to defeat, I was the only one to FAIL to resist! Surely it can't be a coincidence. The hand of Fate was writing us a clear message.

"If and when kismet decrees it's time for us to defeat that monster, it will provide us with some means of flying, or of fighting it in some other way. But for now, it's time for us to plan to find the temple... on foot, with only the equipment we can carry ourselves. I suppose you could ask if anyone here has suitable animals, but I doubt it. We should wait for Edgral the hunter to come to town, or else find some other way to the temple.

"Oh, and one other thing: I think that we should divide the money, in case one of us is robbed again."

M Keleshite Sor 1 (610 XP)

"Thank you."

M Keleshite Sor 1 (610 XP)

Hasim tries the Sleep spell a second time.

M Keleshite Sor 1 (610 XP)

Hasim takes a pinch of sand from his pouch, throws it into the air, makes a quick but complicated gesture, and mutters some words (some of them nonsense, disguising the true words of power that ignite the Sleep spell. The sand disappears before it can settle. Hasim watches Mel expectantly.

M Keleshite Sor 1 (610 XP)

Can I see Mel from where I'm standing? If so, I'll cast Sleep on Mel. The Will save DC is 14... but maybe Mel could oblige us and voluntarily forego the saving throw.

If I CAN'T see Mel, I'll climb the rope. What's the Climb DC, and may I take 10 for it?

Dang it! I posted in haste that time. Believe it or not, the first time I posted that, I got the gender right. And now it's just too late to edit. Well, you get the idea. I meant, of course, "Could you carry HIM down if HE were asleep?"

M Keleshite Sor 1 (610 XP)

What the...? I posted here a while ago, and my post disappeared. In case it doesn't reappear, here's my post again.

Hasim calls to Heren: "Could you carry her down if she were asleep?"

M Keleshite Sor 1 (610 XP)

"Would you believe I was attacked by a tree? A really nasty specimen of one, too."

M Keleshite Sor 1 (610 XP)
Heren Andercrote wrote:
'I'll go up, someone help me out of my armor.'

Hasim gives Heren the rope BEFORE Heren climbs.

M Keleshite Sor 1 (610 XP)

Okay, I give up.

Hasim tries to climb the tree.

Climb = 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 = 20
That's 15'.
Climb = 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 1 = 10
Still 15'.
Climb = 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
Hasim falls, and takes 1d6 ⇒ 4 damage.
Climb = 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Nothing.
Climb = 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 = 19
15'.
Climb = 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Hasim falls, and takes 1d6 ⇒ 3 damage.
Okay, I just took 7 points damage because of this. Can anyone help me out here?

M Keleshite Sor 1 (610 XP)

Hasim watches the rope hit Mel in the chest and fall back to the ground. He stares in silence for a moment, then calls: "Sorry. My fault. Bad throw. Mel, listen to me. I need you to catch the rope. Can you do that, Mel?"

M Keleshite Sor 1 (610 XP)

I assume that Hasim is free of the Captivating Song effect.

Hasim tries to speak in a reassuring but commanding voice. "Mel, I'll help you, but we need you to put yourself together. Be a man!"

Diplomacy = 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25

Then Hasim adds "Now catch this!" and throws his rope up to Mel.

M Keleshite Sor 1 (610 XP)

Am I free of the Captivating Song yet?

M Keleshite Sor 1 (610 XP)

Hasim stuffs the scrolls into his robe pocket (assuming he has one) and plugs his ears.

Will save = 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9 + the plug factor

M Keleshite Sor 1 (610 XP)

I'll assume the 25 gp for my scrolls comes from the fund, because if I have to pay for them myself, I would only buy one scroll for 12.5. 25 would be too deep a bite from my pocket.

M Keleshite Sor 1 (610 XP)

Sorry? How does WHO do WHAT?

robin wrote:
A question : Ianthe , If I remember rightly , you gave everyone his share of the money . Am I right ?

The last time I heard this matter being discussed was in this post, when Ianthe asked "would you all rather it be held by one or divvied up to be held individually?" I don't think we ever resolved the matter, did we? If we didn't, maybe we should.

M Keleshite Sor 1 (610 XP)

To Heren: I'm a pretty good liar - please believe me when I say that - but I think I'd better stay in reserve in case you need more Sleep spells.

To Alberic: How much for the "Message" scrolls?

M Keleshite Sor 1 (610 XP)

Ah. When I read the description of the Message spell, particularly the line "When you whisper, the whispered message is audible to all targeted creatures within range," I thought it meant despite any obstacles, short of magical silence, 1 foot of stone, 1 inch of common metal, a thin sheet of lead, or 3 feet of wood or dirt. Clearly, robin, you interpret it differently. Thanks for clarifying.

In that case, I guess I'm not in the market for a scroll after all.

BTW, I'm curious, since I've never bought a spell scroll in my life. Is Ianthe allowed, before purchasing the scroll, to cast Read Magic to verify that the spell on the scroll is, indeed, True Strike? Or do I have a misconception about how these things work (which is always a distinct possibility.)

M Keleshite Sor 1 (610 XP)

Yes, I ought to get some Magic Missile scrolls as well, if possible.

(I can't believe I just wrote that. I NEVER buy scrolls, and when I play a sorcerer/wizard type, I ALWAYS take Magic Missile first! I don't know what possessed me to choose differently this time.)

M Keleshite Sor 1 (610 XP)

Could I ask around to find out if there are any scrolls with the Message spell for sale? Or if anyone would be willing to scribe some for us? (Thanks, Heren, for the idea. I don't know if it will be useful, but it MIGHT.)

M Keleshite Sor 1 (610 XP)

After Paul - and whoever else - is done with that particular merchant, Hasim pipes up "Excuse me, sir, but if you don't mind my asking, who are these druids of whom you speak? How is it that these druids command such respect that the government of Taldor 'lets you be,' as you say?"

M Keleshite Sor 1 (610 XP)

Okay, I'm going now. There's a slim chance I might post just once in another day or two, but other than that, you won't hear from me for another 4-5 days. See you then.

M Keleshite Sor 1 (610 XP)
Melissa Evendale wrote:
yes Hasim should get a DC 17 perception check..Mel takes 10 on disguise every morning. Adjunta just beat it so it's fairly nebulous..depending on how well Hasim does he might discover something else. As for the spell as long as we get Malgasir out off singing range we can get him back to normal so I wouldn't bother

Perception = 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (18) - 1 = 17

Heh. I guess it's nebulous for me too.

Hasim helps Adjunta and Ianthe, as well as he can, to keep Malgasir under control.

M Keleshite Sor 1 (610 XP)

Well, I'm back... for a day or two, then my availability will be limited / nonexistant AGAIN for another 4 days. After that, I hope to be available for good.

BTW Mel, I grappled with you earlier, when you were captivated by the song. Do I get a Perception check too?

Anyhoo, I can only think of one contribution at the moment: I can still cast 1 more 1st-level spell today. Should I use it to put Malgasir to sleep, to give him one last chance at a Will save?

M Keleshite Sor 1 (610 XP)

When Hasim catches up with the others, he says "Maybe we should grab Malgasir and carry him away. But Heren won't be one of those who carries him - if the bird-thing follows us, Heren should shoot at it."

This is not a final decision, but maybe an idea we can discuss. My availability is still limited, by the way.

M Keleshite Sor 1 (610 XP)

I must tell you that my availability will be very limited soon. I'll be able to post freely for another day or two. Then for the next 5 days, I will be able to post very seldom. Then for the next 2 or 3 days after THAT, I won't be able to post at all. The GM might have to take over my PC now and then during that time. (And hey, the GM did a good job carrying out my wishes so far.) Or maybe the GM might pass control of my character to another player during that time.

M Keleshite Sor 1 (610 XP)

After taking a look around, Hasim turns around and runs right back to Heren.

Here's my thinking: I don't know why casting a Sleep spell should give someone another chance at a saving throw, but it evidently does. I'll want to cast another Sleep spell on Heren, then slap him awake, and hope he makes the save this time around. If he does, I can untie him and he can do the shooting. (Of course, by the time I get done all of that, the battle might well be over, but Heren ought to be a better shot than I.)

robin wrote:
Ianthe uou can't see you belt anywhere . While most of Malgasir clothes are off in the ground , his belt is also missing

Do I see Malgasir's longbow anywhere? Is it possible that the birdwoman is using Malgasir's longbow? If I don't see the bow, is it possible that it might be hidden in the bundle of Malgasir's clothes, or something? Would a Perception roll be called for in this situation?

M Keleshite Sor 1 (610 XP)
Adjunta Paul wrote:
"...but I thought we might form an attack plan."

Good point, but since our characters technically don't know what they're up against, I don't think they could form much of a plan until they get more info.

Also, I felt like I was abandoning Heren - that was the REAL reason for my hesitation - but I assume that Heren comes to his senses at the same time that Ianthe and Malgasir do, so that shouldn't be an issue now.

M Keleshite Sor 1 (610 XP)

Meanwhile, Hasim looks restless. "Mr Adjunta, we can't leave Mel to face that genie alone. I hesitated for a minute because I was reluctant to leave Mr Andercrote defenseless while he's genie-possessed, but I guess the worst that will happen is that he might break free of his bonds and start heading toward the singing again. There's a chance someone might come and attack Heren, but I think the rest of our friends are in much graver danger.

"If you really want, you could carry Mr Andercrote out of singing range, and see if he recovers his senses, but I for one intend to see to the rest of our friends. I'm sure it's been long enough that I won't blow Mr Evendale's cover, even though I can't move stealthily to save my life."

He starts to head toward the singing.

M Keleshite Sor 1 (610 XP)

Is Heren securely tied up? Are Ianthe, Malgasir, and the oxen and wagon out of sight?

Regardless of your answers, this is my last chance to post. I'll see you in a day or two.

M Keleshite Sor 1 (610 XP)

"Friends? Are you all right? Do you understand me?"

M Keleshite Sor 1 (610 XP)

Another expletive. Okay, I'm guessing that if I try to whip the oxen into turning around, that will accomplish nothing. It looks like I'll be lucky to save even...

There is no luck, there's only Desti-...

Oh hush. New plan: I'll cast Sleep one more time, trying to put Mel to sleep. (I assume that Mel is more than 20 feet away from Ianthe and Malgasir, or else I'll target Malgasir as well.)

Then I'll tie up Heren and Paul, like I said before - and possibly someone else, depending upon who else is asleep - but then I'll drag them across the road, in the opposite direction of the singing. (I can drag up to 750 pounds.) Hopefully, when they wake up, they'll still be kept busy trying to get out of the rope. Hopefully, I can keep them under control until I drag them out of hearing range of the singing.

Of course, if getting out of the "singing" range doesn't make Heren and Paul come to their senses, then we're REALLY screwed.

One more thing. Robin, maybe YOU could roll the Will save(s), and take a -2 penalty, in order to speed it up? Once I leave, in about an hour, I'll be unable to post again for well over a day.

M Keleshite Sor 1 (610 XP)

Uh oh. Do the oxen have glazed looks in their eyes, like the humans? Are they walking like they normally walk, or with a rhythmic tread, as if hypnotized? Here I assumed the singing affected only humanoids. If the oxen are controlled too, then we're REALLY up the creek.

M Keleshite Sor 1 (610 XP)

Expletive.

Hasim runs up to Heren's and Adjunta's sleeping forms. He ties Heren's hands behind his back and ties his feet together. Then he gives the rope a good amount of slack, and ties the Adjunta's feet and hands in much the same manner.

As he works, he says "You know, Mel, if I were a true hero, I would keep trying to put you, Malgasir, and Ianthe to sleep, so I could save you too. But if I'm too ambitious, I'll lose ALL of you. It's nothing personal."

Then Hasim runs back to the oxen...

Boy, do I hope they haven't run away during all this!

...and drives the cart up to Heren and Adjunta. He places each of them into the cart, one at a time.

That's why I gave the rope some slack between them.

Then Hasim looks around.

Robin, can I do all of that successfully? And by the time I'm done, has anything else changed? Are my friends still in range so that I can try another Sleep spell? Or has the fey, or whatever, caught up to us?

M Keleshite Sor 1 (610 XP)

Okay, I'll cast a Sleep spell on A, I, and H. The Save DC is 14... (or are they allowed to forgo their saves even though they're being controlled?)

M Keleshite Sor 1 (610 XP)

I'm sorry, but what are you saying? If you mean that Adjunta, Ianthe, and Heren are walking further from me every round, then yes, I know that, but I can't save them ALL.

Or maybe you mean that A, I and H are coming up to me to attack me, now that I'm stopping Mel's progress?

Or maybe you mean that I'm wrong to try to split the party like this. Maybe I am... but I have to do SOMETHING. I can't leave them all to the mercy of the fey.
