I made a spoiler especially for Adjunta since he was the only one who had recognized the type of creatures your allies had . Heren had no reason to know what they were . You can of course read other players spoilers but try not to repeat the information given therein.
I take some efforts to present the situation as you characters should see it and seeing the result spoilt does not make me real happy.
Oh and Heren did see the ghouls attacking the owlbear since he had just been healed
Heren Andercrote |
Oh. I didn't read the spoiler, but Adjunta just said this:
"One body ghouls," Adjunta says chanelling energy to heal, "my companions aren't dead and this monster will keep you fed for weeks. I am a man of my word but I will not abide greed or unfair dealing. Heren watch the bear for the moment."
don't attack the ghouls until we have healed our friends. Adjunta doesn't have turn undead.
So Heren and myself both know they're ghouls.
Melissa Evendale |
Mel begins a quick series of side steps to put himself into a flanking position on the creatures if it turns nasty ..Thankful for the darness hiding the look of fear that creeps over his face at Adjunta's naming of them as Ghouls

End of round three
Heren had finished the owlbear and did stand up
Mel's moving to go discretly behind the ghouls 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28
Round Four
Adjunta heal the owlbear and his friends
Malgasir is at 1 hp , delays
Ianthe casting protection of chaos on Heren
Hasim inconscious
Ghouls
Owlbear alive and prone due to Adjunta
Mel
Heren
ghouls perception 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27
Seeing the owl bear twitching , Ghoul1 strike it
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 31d6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 21d20 ⇒ 171d3 ⇒ 11d20 ⇒ 131d3 ⇒ 3
and ghoul2 does the same
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 51d6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 21d20 ⇒ 181d3 ⇒ 21d20 ⇒ 61d3 ⇒ 1
The owlbear goes down again and one ghoul says spitefully
"stoopiiid priest ! kill enemy before ! " while the other says 'ok , ok if they are not dead, they are not meat .
Mel , Heren , Adjunta , Ianthe to act now!
Ianthé Jack |
Ianthé regarded the situation given everything that she had come across in reports about ghouls, remembering that to a one, they had been destroyed as they were found. Suspicious, she looked at everyone, and declared in a decisive tone of voice. "Then it is time to go."
Most of them needed to heal, and they most certainly needed to be away. Perhaps the Owlbear would be sufficient for the two for now, enough time for the rest of them to be on their way, but what about after? Were these not the same two that had attacked them earlier? It was hard to tell, but Ianthé could not and would not guarantee that they would not hurt the next travelers to come down this road.
Was she willing to risk the group by not letting the pair of ghouls live? Was the rest of the group willing to let them live? Did they want to turn their backs on these undead? She looked at Adjunta, recalling that he made the agreement, then at Malgasir. She was willing to trust the tracker over the priest in this instance.
Delaying Action as well.
Adjunta Paul |
Channel positive energy: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
"Is everyone alright?" Adjunta asks, "Those things in the woods were ghouls by the way. Not that I could have known that, but when I agreed to their help we were in dire straits, and would have taken aid from almost anyone. Quite frankly, despite my earlier bravado, I'm actually surprised that we came out of that alive. Good work everyone."
Heren Andercrote |
'Ghouls, the Keleshites on the borders would talk of ghouls, cursed beings who hunger for the flesh of men. Where did they come from?'
Heren is quite shaken having come so close to death, and talks more queitly than usual.
'Should we leave them out in the dark? What if they find a farmstead? We may be able to defend ourselves... but...'
At this he grows darkly silent.
Ianthé Jack |
Setting her staff, Ianthé nodded, coming to stand next to Heren in support of his views, the sound of the grass under her feet sounding very loud now that the night air was not filled with the sounds of combat. "Those were my thoughts as well", she said softly, frowning into the low campfire. "I suspect that those were the same two that attacked earlier." Judging by the expression on her face, she was having difficulty accepting the thought that those two would likely be preying upon others in the future. Still, word was given, and she would abide by it, as they were at a disadvantage currently.
Troubled, she looked to Mel, to see what he thought of their situation.
Melissa Evendale |
Home service resumed..thank the gods
Mel watched the ghouls drag the bear-owl away into the shadows then returned to the others fighting back the desire to suggest they pack up and run now.
"Horrible things those weren't they...I agree that something should be done about them..but I have no insight into how to deal with the undead. We do seem to have picked a somewhat busy spot for our campsite though"
Bluff to appear calm and collected..1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23

Two days without posts : I'll move things along then
After adjunta's healing , you pass a nervous night but the ghouls do not come back . In the morning , you continue your travel prudently
Happily , the rest of the travel goes without problems till the forest . You camp near the end of the canal and you enter the forest
in the morning .
Two days following a path in the forest and one hour after the start of the third day , Malgasir will stop you .
"Strange , the normal path continue straight on but non one seems to have taken it in some days . There is a secondary path crossing here and it has been used more recently . Now we are speaking in terms of heavy traffic there . I would guess last persons to cross about one week ago . "
Heren Andercrote |
'The side track may be bandits, there are plenty just on the edge of the Verduran. And likely the people of Brandon's Bridge don't leave that much, by all accounts.'
'I say we follow the road less travelled, and see if we get to the village, if we don't within a day or two, we can always backtrack to here.'
Ianthé Jack |
Ianthé was regarding the two paths with interest. "Now why would most travelers not use the main road, and settle for a side path?" There were more questions she had, but none of them had answers, so she did not voice them. Instead, she looked at Heren when he voiced his opinion, and gave a shrug. It was a sound suggestion.
"I don't see anything wrong with that." She was well and truly getting tired of riding in the cart. Perhaps it was nice to be able to not have to walk or ride anywhere she went, but ye gods was it boring. She was getting a horse the next chance she got. Or a spell. Or both!
Adjunta Paul |
"The Road would be my preference," Adjunta finally decides, "the path might lead anywhere, but we know where this road leads. Why this road sees so little use is a mystery we will need to solve at another time."
Adjunta scans both the road and path again before he turns back to Heren.
"I better ask for clarification as to your opinion Heren. You are aware that in this case the road less traveled is the actual road right?"
robin |
You progress about one hour along the road when you hear beautiful fey voice singing ahead.
For everyone but Hasim
Mel 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (15) + 0 = 15
Malgasir 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
Hasim 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 1 = 17
Heren 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Ianthe 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14
Adjunta 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
you are captivated and for the moment under my control
Hasim
you can't help notice that your friends don't react normally to this drone . Some even leave the wagon where it is to move faster toward it .
Hasim Bin Omar |
"Um... friends? What are you doing?"
I assume I get only senseless answers, if any at all.
Hasim walks up to Paul, slaps him hard in the face, and calls "Mr Adjunta! Think of what you're doing! Following that voice is not standard procedure! Check your legal documents if you don't believe me!"
It's a long shot, but does that do any good whatsoever?
Hasim Bin Omar |
At least does anyone say anything in response to my words (e.g. "I must follow the singing?") Does Paul show any sign that he's even aware I hit him?
Okay, I'm an idiot for doing this, but I want to try to grab Mel and prevent him (really her, but you know what I mean) from going any further.
Grapple = 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 1 = 17
Does (s)he resist? Attack me when I provoke the AoO? Anything?
robin |
none of them seem aware of your words and while Adjunta did have a little reaction of avoidance when you did slap him , it was only temporary.
At first, when you grab Mel , he does struggle to get free but without hitting you (more of an escape artist roll than a opposed grapple check) .
Meanwhile the others are continuing donw the road ...
[and the rest will have to wait one hour or two for me to get home...)
Hasim Bin Omar |
Sorry to take advantage of your "offline time" robin, but I figure this probably won't work anyway. I'll try using Diplomacy.
"Listen to me, Mel! Your strings are being pulled by genies... or whatever you have in Taldor instead of genies. Fight it! Control yourself!"
Diplomacy = 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19
Hasim Bin Omar |
I'm sorry, but what are you saying? If you mean that Adjunta, Ianthe, and Heren are walking further from me every round, then yes, I know that, but I can't save them ALL.
Or maybe you mean that A, I and H are coming up to me to attack me, now that I'm stopping Mel's progress?
Or maybe you mean that I'm wrong to try to split the party like this. Maybe I am... but I have to do SOMETHING. I can't leave them all to the mercy of the fey.
Hasim Bin Omar |
Expletive.
Hasim runs up to Heren's and Adjunta's sleeping forms. He ties Heren's hands behind his back and ties his feet together. Then he gives the rope a good amount of slack, and ties the Adjunta's feet and hands in much the same manner.
As he works, he says "You know, Mel, if I were a true hero, I would keep trying to put you, Malgasir, and Ianthe to sleep, so I could save you too. But if I'm too ambitious, I'll lose ALL of you. It's nothing personal."
Then Hasim runs back to the oxen...
Boy, do I hope they haven't run away during all this!
...and drives the cart up to Heren and Adjunta. He places each of them into the cart, one at a time.
That's why I gave the rope some slack between them.
Then Hasim looks around.
Robin, can I do all of that successfully? And by the time I'm done, has anything else changed? Are my friends still in range so that I can try another Sleep spell? Or has the fey, or whatever, caught up to us?
