Boy, do I hope they haven't run away during all this!

You mean the wagon which the oxen have strangely been continuing to pull in your direction ?

Since they are moving twice as slow as any of you, they are still a bit behind

If you want to do your actions
Moving towards Herens and Adjunta : 1 round
Tying Heren : 1 round
Tying Adjunta : 1 round
Moving back to the wagon :1 round
Moving the wagon towards Heren and Adjunta : 2 rounds
Putting both into the wagon : 1 round
By this time , the rest of your friends will be out of sight and almost certainly will have encountered the singer

M Keleshite Sor 1 (610 XP)

Uh oh. Do the oxen have glazed looks in their eyes, like the humans? Are they walking like they normally walk, or with a rhythmic tread, as if hypnotized? Here I assumed the singing affected only humanoids. If the oxen are controlled too, then we're REALLY up the creek.

Yes they do have glazed eyes...

M Keleshite Sor 1 (610 XP)

Another expletive. Okay, I'm guessing that if I try to whip the oxen into turning around, that will accomplish nothing. It looks like I'll be lucky to save even...

There is no luck, there's only Desti-...

Oh hush. New plan: I'll cast Sleep one more time, trying to put Mel to sleep. (I assume that Mel is more than 20 feet away from Ianthe and Malgasir, or else I'll target Malgasir as well.)

Then I'll tie up Heren and Paul, like I said before - and possibly someone else, depending upon who else is asleep - but then I'll drag them across the road, in the opposite direction of the singing. (I can drag up to 750 pounds.) Hopefully, when they wake up, they'll still be kept busy trying to get out of the rope. Hopefully, I can keep them under control until I drag them out of hearing range of the singing.

Of course, if getting out of the "singing" range doesn't make Heren and Paul come to their senses, then we're REALLY screwed.

One more thing. Robin, maybe YOU could roll the Will save(s), and take a -2 penalty, in order to speed it up? Once I leave, in about an hour, I'll be unable to post again for well over a day.

Mel save 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (9) - 2 = 7

Mel falls asleep .
You begin to tie and drag them when both Adjunta and Heren wake up
while heren is still in the same state , Adjunta seems lucid and while you are untying him , Mel awakes and is lucide too
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
1d20 ⇒ 17

M Keleshite Sor 1 (610 XP)

"Friends? Are you all right? Do you understand me?"

'The song... The beautiful song.'

M Keleshite Sor 1 (610 XP)

Is Heren securely tied up? Are Ianthe, Malgasir, and the oxen and wagon out of sight?

Regardless of your answers, this is my last chance to post. I'll see you in a day or two.

Heren is securely tied . the others are indeed out of sight

Adjunta and Mel have a faint recollection of what happened till they fell asleep . This was the most beautiful song you ever heard but now it just does not seem the same ...

"Well," Adjunta says rubbing his hand across his head, "I think we know know why people have avoided the road. My question is what do we do about it?"

Female (posing as male) Human Swashbuckler Rogue 2 (favoured class)/Urban Ranger 2

"Uh..my head.."Mel shakes his head to clear it"...and why has that song changed?"

to Adjunta's comment he gives a typically common sense answer..

"Well first off we need to stop the others getting any closer to it..whatever it is"

Mel draws his rapier and moves towards the sound.

The noise in question should ne about 120 feet ahead for your information. Are you going straight ahead or are you trying to be more discreet ?

Female (posing as male) Human Swashbuckler Rogue 2 (favoured class)/Urban Ranger 2

Moving quietly trying to use cover as best he can Mel approaches the source of the singing

stealth1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23

He surprises himself by being far quieter than he had thought possible in an outdoors situation

Mel move through a corpse of trees .
Before him is a unusual situation .
He sees Ianthe , Malgasir , several animals (a deer , a hare , several rabbits and some birds in circle around a winged woman (half bird , half woman) who has just finished removed the armor off Malgasir . Both Malgasir and Ianthe also do not have their weapons anymore . The woman is in the course of cutting the clothes off Malgasir while still crooning. The two oxen are also there

Female (posing as male) Human Swashbuckler Rogue 2 (favoured class)/Urban Ranger 2

Continuing his stealthy movement Mel draws a throwing knife and launches it at the strange hybrid hoping to disrupt it's song. The dagger flies true and sinks into a hopefully vital spot on the creature

stealth1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25

attack 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20 needs to be modified for range and the fact that target is flat footed

Damage1d4 ⇒ 3

sneak attack 1d4 ⇒ 3

Mel moves stealthily using the concealment of the creatures around the bird woman to conceal him . When he is 30' from the creature, his knife flies true and strike the thigh of the creature . Surprised , she let an cry of pain escaping her which is just enough to let Heren , Ianthe and Malgasir reroll a save

Heren's will save : 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Malgasir will save : 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Ianthe' will save : 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
The oxen stay captivated

Initiative for Ianthe , Mel and the creature (the others are too far back and don't yet know what is happening)
Creature : 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5 Damage 6hp , Still flat footed
Mel : 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20
Ianthe : 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20

Mel to act then Ianthe ...
Ianthe, the creature has taken your belt which means you no longer have your dagger but also miss your spell pouch .

Female (posing as male) Human Swashbuckler Rogue 2 (favoured class)/Urban Ranger 2

Mel closes the distance quickly his rapier thrusting for the Bird womans vitals. The blade slices into the hybrid just above where a humans kidneys should be

Full movement action to close with the harpy(not a Charge)and attack

attack1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25 woot!

critical confirmation1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26 double woot!!!

damage3d6 ⇒ (6, 1, 2) = 9 bleh ;{

still 15 damage and it hasnt even acted yet...

sniff , you said the H word

M Keleshite Sor 1 (610 XP)

Meanwhile, Hasim looks restless. "Mr Adjunta, we can't leave Mel to face that genie alone. I hesitated for a minute because I was reluctant to leave Mr Andercrote defenseless while he's genie-possessed, but I guess the worst that will happen is that he might break free of his bonds and start heading toward the singing again. There's a chance someone might come and attack Heren, but I think the rest of our friends are in much graver danger.

"If you really want, you could carry Mr Andercrote out of singing range, and see if he recovers his senses, but I for one intend to see to the rest of our friends. I'm sure it's been long enough that I won't blow Mr Evendale's cover, even though I can't move stealthily to save my life."

He starts to head toward the singing.

don't worry , I'll roll your initiative next round

Ianthe ?

Female Dwarf Unchained Rogue 5

Ah, I hadn't seen that I was actually free

Coming back to her senses in a place that she didn't really remember wandering into, though it did not look so different from the last place she remembered being, which was the road, Ianthé starts, her hand going to her belt, which was missing, though she still had her staff, for what good it did.

Still, it was something. Hefting her staff, she moved so that she was in line with Mel, making sure that the creature would have to focus on one or the other of them, and made as if she was going to attack, so it would be forced to split its attention. Was it sentient? Was it hostile? Without taking her attention away, she took a glance around the area they were in.

taking 10 on a Spot check, Fighting Defensively, and looking for an opening to get her belt back.

Okay this is strange, apparently a post of mine has been eaten, but I could have sworn that I saw it posted before I signed off.

Adjunta nods as he follows Hasim, "I have no intention of abandoning our friends," he says, "but I thought we might form an attack plan. But in a pinch run in and club everything that attacks you is a solid back up strategy."

M Keleshite Sor 1 (610 XP)
Adjunta Paul wrote:
"...but I thought we might form an attack plan."

Good point, but since our characters technically don't know what they're up against, I don't think they could form much of a plan until they get more info.

Also, I felt like I was abandoning Heren - that was the REAL reason for my hesitation - but I assume that Heren comes to his senses at the same time that Ianthe and Malgasir do, so that shouldn't be an issue now.

Malgasir and Heren have failed their second save so they are still captivated
Ianthe wakes up . Happily she spots her staff still in the wagon.
She picks it up and move to support Mel

The bird woman seeing this opposition prefers to retreat this round taking flight and finishing her move about 60' up in a tree where you can spot a sort of platform . She is still singing

Adjunta 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
Hasim 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10

Round 1 :
Mel
Ianthe
Birdwoman
Hasim
Adjunta

Mel and Ianthe can act ...

Female Dwarf Unchained Rogue 5

Taking the time to locate her belt, Ianthé was already sorting through her (limited) spells, searching for what may be appropriate in this situation, and lamented the lack of a silencing spell. "Just shut up already!" she yelled at the bird-woman in a fit of exasperation. "Begone!" Scowling, she looked up at the thing.

Ianthe uou can't see you belt anywhere . While most of Malgasir clothes are off in the ground , his belt is also missing

Female (posing as male) Human Swashbuckler Rogue 2 (favoured class)/Urban Ranger 2

Did the Harpy withdraw or was it just a standard move away ..if the latter we both get AoOs against it

"Hah your squawking doesn't bother us, you scrawny old hen" Mel cries out his voice ringing light and clear through the glade( perform orate take 10 for a total off 16) The lad sheaths his rapier and slips his light crossbow from his shoulder as he speaks, reaching for a bolt.

Move action to sheath rapier, standard action to unsling crossbow.

He whispers to Ianthe.."Any idea what that is and if you do does it have any other wierd things it can do to us""

note to self..quickdraw is a useful feat in these situations

It was a withdraw action (she is no dummy)

Female Dwarf Unchained Rogue 5

"I'd have thought she'd have done it by now.." Ianthé shrugs, frowning up at the thing. "..where's my belt?" Trusting Mel to cover her if it tried anything, she looked around a little harder, wondering where it might be.. She remembered having it on before she.. 'woke up', so it had to be somewhere nearby. Had to be.

Round 1
Mel : pick up his crossbow and load it
Ianthe : looks desesperately around for her belt without success
The birdwoman picks up a bow from the platform and let fly at Mel without success
1d20 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 121d8 ⇒ 7

Hasim , Adjunta , Mel and Ianthe can Act

Do I see Malgasir's longbow anywhere? Is it possible that the birdwoman is using Malgasir's longbow? If I don't see the bow, is it possible that it might be hidden in the bundle of Malgasir's clothes, or something? Would a Perception roll be called for in this situation?

Female (posing as male) Human Swashbuckler Rogue 2 (favoured class)/Urban Ranger 2

Mel takes aim and shoots at the creature..he misses, the bolt drilling into the tree.

Light crossbow 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10

Sovereign Court

Adjunta will take a quick look for another club he could throw

Female Dwarf Unchained Rogue 5

Her options rather limited, Ianthé continues to look for her belt, wondering how hard it would be to maintain a second spell component pouch.

1d20 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7

Female (posing as male) Human Swashbuckler Rogue 2 (favoured class)/Urban Ranger 2

Mel takes note off Ianthe's searching as he continues to spa his crossbow for the next shot.."Pardon me for asking Mistress Ianthe but would any of your spells actually reach that thing?"

Female Dwarf Unchained Rogue 5

Ianthé spares a glance up at the woman-bird thing, returning to searching for her belt. "No, but neither will any defensive magic I know help protect us without it." She gives a gesture at the harpy, her numerous silver bracelets jingling. "That harpy has either taken it or hidden it, and hells if I know which."
Knowledge check for the creature's name:1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15

Female (posing as male) Human Swashbuckler Rogue 2 (favoured class)/Urban Ranger 2

"Well then the quickest way to find it will be to dispose off that thing or drive her off so one off us can get up there"

Mel looks up into the tree and swallows hard hoping nobody sees through his bravado..he hates heights

The chances are indeed really good she is using Malgasir's longbow.
There are no weapon usable on the ground .

Ianthe , the lack of the belt only handicapes you for spells with a material component .

M Keleshite Sor 1 (610 XP)

After taking a look around, Hasim turns around and runs right back to Heren.

Here's my thinking: I don't know why casting a Sleep spell should give someone another chance at a saving throw, but it evidently does. I'll want to cast another Sleep spell on Heren, then slap him awake, and hope he makes the save this time around. If he does, I can untie him and he can do the shooting. (Of course, by the time I get done all of that, the battle might well be over, but Heren ought to be a better shot than I.)

Round 1
Birdwoman miss her attacks
Hasim runs back to Heren (double move) and reach him
Adjunta looks for something to throw . there are some rocks ...

Round 2 :
Mel miss
Ianthe looks for her belt without success
Birdwoman fires an arrow again at Meland hits his shoulder ...
1d20 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 191d8 ⇒ 4

Hasim cast sleep at Heren who fall asleep and is instantly awakened by a kick.
1d20 ⇒ 11 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18
Heren's initiative 1d20 ⇒ 9

Heren can react instantly if he want but he is actually prone and must get rid of his bonds ...
Otherwise Mel , Ianthe and Adjunta can act . I took the liberty of assuming Hasim would act as he intended .

Female (posing as male) Human Swashbuckler Rogue 2 (favoured class)/Urban Ranger 2

Mel lets out an almost girlish cry off pain as the arrow sinks into his shoulder..gritting his teeth he takes aim and shoots

Attack1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20

Damage1d8 ⇒ 6

"Ha..take that chicken girl " he cries as the bolt sinks deep his voice cracking.

Female Dwarf Unchained Rogue 5

Ianthé's head snapped up at seeing Mel get hurt, and bares her teeth at the harpy still up in the tree. Her search for the belt was abandoned, and she moved nearer to him, concentrating. "I cannot provide a better defense, but this.." frowning harder, Ianthe grit her teeth as her hands described pulling a something up, a very faint shimmer warping the air around her ever so slightly and springing outwards as she positioned herself behind Mel.

"Do not move more than two steps from me or you leave what little protection I can give.", she said, her eyes unfocused as she examined the minor barrier she was capable of without her materials.

Protective Ward, 1st use, 3rnds, +1 to AC(deflection)

Female (posing as male) Human Swashbuckler Rogue 2 (favoured class)/Urban Ranger 2

Mel nods and sets his foot to the crossbows stirrup wincing as the arrow moves in his shoulder..he begins the difficult task of spanning it one handed

Female Dwarf Unchained Rogue 5

Maintaining her focus was easy enough, and seeing Mel struggle with the bowstring was not going to help them resolve this situation any faster, so Ianthé gives him a hand with reloading. "It doesn't require all my focus", she said with a slight smile.

Female (posing as male) Human Swashbuckler Rogue 2 (favoured class)/Urban Ranger 2

to do that Ianthe has to get close....if she makes a DC17 perception check she'll notice something not quite right about Mel

Mel stiffens slightly as the Mage moves in closer but smiles as she helps load..

"If we had two off these it would be easier..didn't you have one?"

She looked chagrined as Mel asks. "My first lesson in overconfidence. I had not expected to contend with these ranges. Within twenty-five paces, I am fine indefinitely, but this.." The crossbow loaded, she glared up at the harpy. "..I'm getting a Heavy Crossbow."

She's too annoyed, and taking 10 does not beat it.
