I'm glad you're making progress, at any pace! And thank you for the head's up. We'll see you in a couple of weeks!

Feyglade

Spoiler:

Grobradon nods at Ethulfel.

Though his mother being a bear wouldn't bother him as much as long as she was happy with it, might be difficult on her social life though.

He has other concerns, too and asks "Wyldlord, "Would you be willing to swear that you will reverse the changes and have the hairs returned if we were not satisfied with the bargain at anytime?"

Feyglade

Spoiler:

Grobradon looks over at Ethulfel

And shares in Orcish, remembering the bard knows that language as well, and wondering if the fae might be ignorant of it..."Zdá se, že je to pravda. Zdá se, že je ochoten udělat to, co říká, pokud přijmeme jeho podmínky. Necítím žádnou nenávist v jeho srdci vůči nám. A přesto jsem podezřívavý. Ty?"

Orc:
"SEEMS truthful,. SEEMS willing to do as he says if we accept his terms. I sense no hate in his heart towards us. And yet, I am suspicious. You?"

Feyglade:

Quote:
You regret how much raising you has cost your dear mother, and would do almost anything to give her another chance to live her life and her sight back, yes?"

Grobradon grows cautious even as he can't deny the pull of the offer, and he nods to Ethulfel. He too would do ALMOST anything. He waits for the other shoe to drop.

Quote:
"From three lovelies fair, gather a lock of their hair. One from Moon, Another from Meep, and a third from Talliree. Deliver them to the grove of thorn and oak and ash. There with the cures for your mothers shall my lovely partner wait and be."
Quote:
He tilts his head to examine the figure as he weighs the task set for them. "That seems... too easy..." he remarks hesitantly. "Please, sir, do not dangle hope before me unless you truly mean to give it. I don't begrudge anyone a prank, and under most circumstances I'd be glad to play a game for you, but if this is a deception there's little chance of any fun coming from it. Please, tell us plainly all that you really want so that we can do it for you with all haste, or be shattered now by our inability to do so and move on."

"Even if Moon agreed, I would not hand power over her to another lightly, Cousin. Why do you want them? What will you use them for?"

Sense Motive: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (12) + 10 = 22

Raven Rap:

His eyes narrow at the mention of orcs. "I've got a question, but either the answer is no, or I'll kill him with my bare hands." He doesn't explain, "Which I may do anyway. Thank you, Miss Raven."

Male Half Orc Druid 3 (HP: 17/22; AC 19, (t11, ff17); F+4,R+2,W+6; init +1/Per +10)

Ethulfel and Grobradon:
Grobradon looks to Ethulfel, "I'm going after, I think we both should, but your path is your choice."

And he follows.

Miss Raven:

Quote:

The raven is mollified by the apologies and accepts the ribbon before giving her report.

"Lots of small friends and big friends and bigger friends crossed the river two suns ago. Leave behind old friends and young friends. Scattered through forest. Head south."

"Big ones? Bigger than me?" asks the six foot six half orc. Even as he tries to place the movements.

Ethulfel, Grob, bunnies:

Grobradon scowled protective of his friends for a moment but tries to find his reserve and listens.

Then adds "우리가 당신을 따르기를 원하십니까??" [spoiler="Sylvan"]"Do you want us to follow you?"

Raven:

"Forgive, us, Nightwinged Raven, we're are creatures of the land, and that hinders us more than we expect sometimes."

Searching the trees around the camp, you do spot a couple of animals watching you and Ethulfel. They're not creatures that are likely to work with goblins, so who sent them?

He nudges the gnome, pointing out the hare whose dark coat seems to collect light like a raven's feather, "Fairie touched, or so I Suspect. I wonder who they're working for? You want to talk to one of them, or shall I?"

He coaxes the rabbit, not superclose, but to get its attention and show he means no harm.

So far, so good, Grobradon doesn't see a threat from outside. He could be missing something but.. still, so far so good.

He hears the haggling going on, and centers himself, fighting impatience. You can't rush a trees's growth, a season's change, or a Kassen goodbye between neighbors... no really, the last was super annoying. He remembered when he was a kid and his mother and he would go to visit some kind soul, and it took forEVER for folks to stop saying good bye. They'd say good bye as they start to rise from their hosts' table.

You'd think that would be it. But nooo...
they'd get to the door, then say more goodbyes.

They'd finally get OUTSIDE the door, there was yet more goodbyes though, the chains of gossip mixed with farewell and well wishes.

Finally that would seem to end, but then, Gozreh bless, just as they thought they were off the grounds, either his mother, who was normally a sensible woman, or the lady who was hosting would remember 'one more thing' and bam, another fifteen minutes to a half hour of his young life lost.

He loved and loves the forest around it, but small town good byes? The worst!

Grobradon notices Meep's dislike of the idea. Telling her to buck up and hand it over for the good of the pack is tempting, but Meep's at a delicate stage and this new tribe isn't supposed to be so autocratic. Also.. Moon might kill him, or at least shun.

"How about something shiny to impress other ravens?" He suggests as the feed in his hands is being devoured, "Meep, show him a single silver coin, and a single copper coin. See if he likes either. If you don't have them, reach into my poach and get them."

Team Corvid! I don’t have wild empathy but I do have speak with animals and charm animal, and I’m willing to use both (my plan was to charm one and then use speak with animals to give it clear instruction; and speak with animals again when it returns to learn what it saw).

If we could find something fast like a falcon or a hawk, they could make it--and have the sharp eyes to see what the goblins are up to--but birds aren't very clever, so their report will be limited." The gnome absentmindedly reaches down and scratches the neck of the bobcat that followed him inside while continuing, "I mean, any animal's report is limited, except Sir Whiskers, but a cat or a dog might do a better job than a bird if we can afford to wait longer for their return. How soon are you hoping to set out?"

If this is part of a Bugwump alliance, then we must ask if this is a separate attack, a second prong of a single attack... or if they crossed the river so early to join forces with the Bugwumps before a joint attack. And if this is coordinated - in any sense - then the Bugwumps are on the move as well... possibly with one or two other tribes."

Grobradon frowns as he considers the ramifications of tribes uniting in harmony against Kassen. Then he says "If we go with birds, I would suggest ravens and crows, though I recently pissed one off. Been giving out bread to make up for it. They're smart. But like Moon says, they may have moved."

At Meep's full debriefing , Grobradon gives an impressed whistle. He knew Meep was not an idiot, but this IS smart. Suddenly the little goblin is the experti n the room.
He listens, and finds himself a bit chilled by the Bloodmoon in particular.
Then the talk turns to the Voice in the Log, "looks like we need the voice then?"

There were literally scores of archers, so if that wasn't a warparty headed somewhere on purpose then their numbers would have to be troublingly high. They did seem to be opportunistic though- They were more than happy to attack our boat when they were confident we were well outnumbered, but they fled quickly when they heard it might be a fair fight."

He leans in and sniffs the mug's inside. "I hate to impose, but is there any tea? After a chilly boat ride up here, I could really go for a nice cup of hot tea, and some of that local honey that I haven't had in ages?"

Grobradon's gaze is caught by a chair that he recognizes from a few years ago as his mother had been working on finishing the pieces for it for one of the furniture makers in Kassen. From what he can see, Mayor Uptal keeps it well and has been using it regularly if the wear marks are anything to go by.

Grobradon mutters to Meep "This is where human chiefs live, but not all human chiefs are kind like Uptal. If you ever find yourself in the lair of a rich man, be cautious, and wonder what they may have done to get the treasures around them. Be it dragons or humans, the greater the hoard they keep about them, if that dragon or man be evil, the greater power they likely have to bear upon those about them and they can not just protect it ruthlessly, but use it so as well. If they be good, then that too is power, and hopefully they'll use it for others and not just themselves. One never is sure with dragons.. or the humans who envy them."

She did practice a lot, though, and that counted for something. Like Mister Jahdi used to say, you practice until you don't miss anymore, not only until you hit it once. "Would it be better to talk about this where there aren't a lot of people," she asks quietly.

"The Stickfoot tribe." He grunts memorizing it. Then others suggest finding a place in private to talk and he nods at Moon's suggestion

""Erigga , Ethulfel, why don't you come with us in case you remember more details." The pathfinder doesn't interest him as much. He's heard about them both good and bad, but Dale can come too he supposes.

Grobradon winces and he looks around as if to make sure NO one heard that, and gives narrowed eyes to show how he would like it to NOT be used again within earshot of.. oh anyone, "Just Grobradon now. And yeah, Mom struggled, but I never went without a meal."

In addition to about half a dozen lizard riders, they had a unit of scores of archers that fired a coordinated volley. Thankfully, they were gullible or things might have gone much worse for us."

Grobradon makes a mental note of the forces mentioned. They maybe facing them soon here.

"Good stuff properly prepped," He nods, then seems surprised by the offer of the hand coupled with the bluntness. Grobradon listens to the update, "Swimming lizards? Huh. I believe you mind you, just never heard of it. We got a friend who is a goblin. Her name's Meep. Maybe she knows what tribe uses that." In his new location everyone can see that Ethulfel stands just a hair over three feet tall with a straw hat so wide it makes him look like a big mushroom. His bright, teal-blue hair and beard are wiry and always seem windswept, and his oversized eyes are the same bright color. He wears a nice cotton frock, dyed a similar color, beneath his chainmail, and a burgundy velvet vest over it. Currently, he also wears a buckler on his left arm, and he carries a little rapier.

Do I know/recognize any of the PCs? I was under the impression that Kassen is pretty small so I'd probably have at least a passing familiarity with other natives?

Fine by me if he and Grobradon have met now and then. Grob's probably bigger now than then. Half orcs grow fast.

As the gnome talks to Olmira by name, Grobradon glances over at the gnome, "Hey, I remember you. Ethulfel? Did I pronounce that right? It's me, Grobradon. Olmira's my mentor. Though I guess I technically ended my apprenticeship." He shrugs

Grobradon sees that no one seems to need healilng, not anyone that can be helped. He's about to shrug it off then blinks as his eyes fall on the halfling, or rather, Erigga's shield!

Okay. Week 2 was earning coin by WOodcutting.. which netted 8 gp

Woot! Rolling in it and.. wait, a hundred lost when week one's results are realized? Oh dear. This may not work in the long run ;)

Week 2 of Downtime:

Woodcutter Profession Roll for cash 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17
So eight gold, maybe eight and a half

Coin has to be earned, and Grobradon is no longer a fan of wood cutting normally... but, now he can put it to good use for not just the coin, but the town, and yes, the forest.

"Okay, you may think this is only for firewood and scrap, but by clearing out these areas here.. .here, and here... if goblins do raid and start fires... it will act as breaks. AND with winter coming on, Firewood will be in high demand anyway." His expertise as much as his muscle is worth something and he applies it.

Father Prasst and and Olmira are called to aid the injured and Ulka Grimtooth is called tend to the dead. Many of the townsfolk are drawn by morbid curiosity as news of the barge's arrival spreads. Soon, the Heroes of Kassen arrive and find themselves at the front of the crowd around the barge's crew and their three passengers. A young woman dressed as a ranger with a bow and quiver on her back and a short blade at her hip looking very grim and two of the smaller folk, a halfling woman and a gnomish man.

Now, in Kassen

What a bummer. Erigga was sit cross-legged on the ground, carefully removing the three arrows that got stuck on her shield. On her brand new shield. "I mean, of course this would happen, like shields are for this, but... what a bummer. Same thing as stepping on s@!* with brand new boots." As it happens, the damage was actually minimal, probably thanks to the shield being made of darkwood, but still, what a bummer. Once she is done, she rests her face on its edge and looks at Ethulfel. "Popped its cherry I guess."

Erigga is a pretty ordinary halfling girl, past her twenties for those savvy enough to know halflings. Brown hair, brown eyes, dimples, tiny amount of freckles. Not too pretty, not too high, not too thin, pretty average all over the place. Her eyes, though, seem bottomless, as if they were deep pools... anyway, she wears a form-fitting breastplate, specially designed for her size and even to allow greater mobility, and her wooden shield covered in leather and depicting a mighty bear.

Grobradon is one of the first on the scene. Rushing out to aid in the healing as well. He's not a comforting nursemaid type. A Six and a half feet of slightly green tinged but tanned man with enlarged canine teeth, slightly pointed ears and green eyes that have red pupils in the right light can be intimidating. The half orc's long hair is wild this morning. He is armed with Sickle and sling but right now he's loping up to see the newcomers of shorter stature, "Who needs healing?" He asks brusquely.

No reply needed. This is just a fun bit of fiction in Grob's use of Knowledge Nature, Survival, and a few spells as he gathers resources for later building ala Downtime now. DM Salsa may wish to discount this entirely and that's fine too. I am NOT trying to create more work when a request for less has been made.

How Grobradon's next week or two MIGHT go when he's not with other PCS:

With Winter approaching, and resources to be gathered, Grobradon becomes far more 'central' to Kassen than anyone has seen before. In the past, he preferred the woods and save for time with his mother, would often not be seen for days at a time inside the village, at least not its public square. Save for Culver, he did not interact often socially with folks his own age.
It must be said, all that has changed.
His cousin, Caroline, gets shown around to the various mentors of Kassen. Not just Olmira , or Arnama either but to Jocyn, and Ring. She meets others as well, though a few of Grobradon's friends may find themselves having his cousin put on their door, with a request for introductions to Holgast and others.
The half orc also tends to getting the resources now that he'll need in the Spring for construction of Moon's new domain and he soon shows just valuable the skills of a dedicated druid can be.

Hunters live in Kassen, not all make their whole living on it, inded, only a few do, but to hunt successfully you have to find game. Some few think a druid would never use his knowledge of nature to hunt the animals. Those few would be wrong. It has to be the right sort of animal at the right sort of time. Wild boars are very dangerous, not just to people and beasts who cross their paths, but to the roots of trees. They can, if left to grow too numerous, despoil a place. Those Hunters that agree to follow Grobadon's rules find that he is willing to lead them to where the Wild boars might be found, and get his advice in the best way to cull them, winnowing their numbers to acceptable levels so other life can thrive without the boars being gone entirely. Further more, when one hunter is hurt , as is not atypical against these dangerous creatures, said hunter maybe glad a druid can heal the worst of the wound in a moment's notice.
For a little while, there is a surplus of delicious pork in Kassen thanks to this.
****

Where there are pigs of any sort, there is a good chance mushrooms might be found. Here too, the druid sells his services within reason. Not only does he track where the most delicious mushrooms might be located, he also points out which ones are edible truffles, and which ones will kill you. He is happy to work with local Alchemists, such as Tang or Maidie, to make sure they get ones with less cullinary but exotic effets. Apparently there is a rare blue stripped one that can make you see the faces of the gods... or at least send you on a really bendy trip.
****

Of course, the druid's greatest aid is with wood. Here he is, if anything, even more protective. Folks have heard his arguements for preserving the forest and restricting some areas from cutting. He'll talk to anyone who listens why old forest is not the same as just new forest grown like a crop. However, few are better at finding suitable dead wood to use for this or that. More than this, with his ablity to mend broken wood whole again, and shape existing wood roughly. Grobradon is happy to work with Jasper in this, or anyone else who will pay it forward to the new construction plans come spring. A few might be insulted he insists on promisory notes, but when Colbin has power over so many in the town, most agree it is just prudent. Wood shaped by druidic magic is often rough, but if you yourself don't have that talent, you know who could smooth that for you? Coldana, Grobradon's mother, and she'll do it for a fair price. HINT HINT!

After awhile, word gets out that a druid is willing to help you today for goods or services tomorrow. This leads to some interesting situations where Grobradon finds someone actually seeking HIM out for ...well, odd stuff.

Leading to conversations he never thought he would have in his life "Honestly, Miss Julworth, I know you had plans for breeding pure blooded Isgerian Springer Spaniels and now that's been ruined, but I've cast speak with animals and asked Roseypaw who the sire is, and she refuses to rat him out. My guess would be that Varisian spotted Mastiff at the guardhouse but you'll just have to wait and see how the puppies look as they get older, and no, I don't think you can demand satisfaction on her behalf or sue but you can ask the Mayor. Really though? They're perfectly fine puppies."

Suffice to say, the client on that one was NOT happy, and Roseypaw told him he was a squealer.

Grob and his mother:

Quote:

"I won't," she assures you after you warn her what will happen if she does go through with suicide. "But, don't you go blaming yourself for how hard life's been for both of us. You were just a baby and a boy. You have brought me so much joy, Grob. Please don't blame yourself for something that happened before you were even born." Her voice is pleading, despite the strength she tries to give it. She drains the rest of her tea and gets up after she finishes.

"You are a fine young man, and don't let anyone else tell you different, especially yourself," she says as she walks around the table and gives you a hug. "And no, that isn't the whiskey talking. I didn't even pull it out."

"Fine. You don't blame yourself for stuff, and i won't blame MYself for stuff. It's a deal."

Quote:

She stands there with you, just holding you tight for a long moment.

He holds her gently just as long.

Quote:

"I love you, Grobradon. I love you as only a mother could. I hope you'll see that for yourself one day," she says before giving you a kiss on the cheek. "Good night, and I hope you have pleasant dreams."

She disappears into the small section of the shack that gives her some privacy, leaving you to think on what she has said.

He watches her go, "I do see it mom." He puts the last of the things to clean up, the cups they just used mostly, and works I just hope when you get your sight back, I don't look anything like the monster who hurt you. If you're seeing his face in your nightmares, you're already plagued by it too much
