I know how to change the battery on boats but I am not really good with electronics. True about JoJo's keys. We think we know where those are too. Do you want to maybe grab the keys off him and get in the car later? Someone else might loot it before we get back but if we did that we would draw any attention.

Sure I'll help you Marcus what do you need me to do.
Greg is untrained in disable device so he unfortunately can't do the aid another check. The above is just roleplaying your request for aid. Looks like a roll attempt with 50% chance of success or failure. You could always leave it alone for now and maybe it won't have been scavenged by someone else when you come back to later with an electronic kit or a level of experience. Speaking of XP you both got 300 XP from the Civic Center Combat.

Ely has one school bus I think finding it might be a bit difficult. Why exactly would we want a bus though? In my opinion we should be looking for something much more fuel efficient.

Greg nods slowly. The one time my date brought me to a dance class there I did notice they had both protein powder jars and some refrigerated pre-made stuff in plastic bottles. Guessing most of that stuff has gone bad. 4 weeks without power. In fact thinking about any looting we are going to do we are going to smell some horrible stuff. I think we should search this place more thoroughly first though.

Search: 1d20 - 1 + 5 ⇒ (11) - 1 + 5 = 15 A quick search by Greg doesn't uncover anything new.
I am using one of the remaining +5 searches. Greg is not the best at searching so maybe Richard should do the remaining 10 search attempts possible for this room. I detailed those attempts several posts ago in a spoiler. Richard's 15 roll had a +15 modifier in that Backwoods office was being treated as never scavenged. After some thought I will repost the most efficient way to search the remaining 10 searches below.

Search(Scavenge)Rules and Efficiency:

So each building has a random size that I will determine for every 1000
ft^2 a search/scavenge attempt is possible. One of the chief modifiers is how scavenged the building is already.
Never Scavenged: +15 (Only applies to first scavenge attempt on buildings that have not been looted)
Very Lightly Scavenged: +5 (Could be starting level or level after 1 scavenge attempt until at least 1/4 of scavenge attempts have been rolled)
Lightly Scavenged:+0 (Either starting level or level once 1/4 attempts made)
Moderately Scavenged:-5 (Either starting level or after 1/2 attempts made)
Heavily Scavenged:-15 (After Taking 20 on 1/2 attempts)
A result of 20 nets some items with more for every 5 over that.
That being said it is probably best to take 20 for several rolls at the beginning of searching but not exceeding half. Then do all the other rolls before ending with the final taking 20. To take a 20 on the roll means 3 hours and 20 minutes so only do this when you deem it safe.

SuggestedApproachForBackwoodsOnly:

Backwoods is 12000 ft^2 office/warehouse. Meaning 12 attempts before exhausted. Richard did 1. Greg did 1. No 20s taken yet. 5 are allowed before penalty.
Search3: Take 20 with +5 modifier (Very Lightly Scavenged)
Search4: Take 20 with 0 modifier (Lightly Scavenged)
Search5: Take 20 with 0 modifier (Lightly Scavenged)
Search6: Take 20 with 0 modifier (Lightly Scavenged)
Search7: Roll with -5 modifier if someone has Search modifier greater than +5. Otherwise stop here. If someone has Search +5 or greater roll 5 results and last one Search12 take 20.
This would equate to a total time of 17.5 man-hours would be consider retroactive time for Richard. I just need to know that's what you want to do. Also just checked no-one in the party has search greater than +4 so the searching wouldn't give you anything past Search6. That would be 13 hours 20 minutes of searching for Richard. Since there is no rolling involved here and you expressed that you wanted to search the place and nothing else.

LootGeneration:

Search3: 1d4 - 1 ⇒ (1) - 1 = 0electrical and 1d2 - 1 ⇒ (1) - 1 = 0 mechanical parts
Search4: 1d2 - 1 ⇒ (2) - 1 = 1 misc items
Search5: 1d2 - 1 ⇒ (2) - 1 = 1 misc items
Search6: 1d2 - 1 ⇒ (2) - 1 = 1 misc items
Search2: 1d4 - 1 ⇒ (2) - 1 = 1electrical and 1d2 - 1 ⇒ (1) - 1 = 0 mechanical parts
Misc1: 1d100 ⇒ 77Since both you and Marcus have Multipurpose Tools going to cheat and give you Mechanical Kit, Basic
Misc2: 1d100 ⇒ 5Battery
Misc3: 1d100 ⇒ 27Chemical Light Sticks 5

Judging from what Marcus discovered from the Internet it's been about 4 weeks since the start of all this. So I guess you are right the grocery stores would have been looted already. Not sure about every house though. We can probably search a few to get an idea of how picked over they would be. We need to think outside the box like you suggested with the fitness center idea. Ely has a small dance and fitness center called Studio North. Oh and you had a question about home improvement stores. Ely is too small to have a Home Depot or Menards but we do have a local hardware store. As for food we can try restaurants. If we get desperate there is a pet store. I doubt people would think about looting it. What do you all think we should search first dance studio, house, restaurant, pet store or hardware store? Greg paused and waited for input from the other survivors. consult the Google map linked above for local Ely locations. Let me know which destination you want to go to and how you want to get there walk or car.

So the link I previously posted had North to the left. The Zombies are coming up the road from Sandy Point they must have been deep in the woods and drawn to the sound of dry heaving. They are still a bit away. I have 2 people voting for making your way to the Civic Center and 1 person voting for staying on the road. JoJo and Greg are out for 7 more rounds at the current pace of things with the sickos gaining 10' on you every 6 seconds they would be pretty close after 7 rounds. You would be another 210 feet down the road so have left the map below at the bottom. You can see ahead that the road opens to either side you can't quite make out if its a cross street or not.
In between gagging Greg squeezes out a brief wheezing The Civic center has a turn-about about 150' ahead. Maybe we stay on the road till then and then head over there in the open instead of making a path through the underbrush to get? You get the feeling he wanted to say more but his gagging returned.

Greg shakes Marcus hand and says
Yeah not sure if Geoffrey is that good or just lucky. But the man hasn't missed and actually may have saved two people from catching whatever these Sick People got. Kinda hard to yell at that. As for being a leader I think that everyone is still in that default mode since I was just their guide. All I want isome for all of us to get along until we figure out where we can go to return to a life as close as it used to be.
Greg returns to the rest of the group and then says Ok guys its a short trip to the office and lets see what the situation is there.

Greg pulls Marcus off to the side and talks to the man softly. We need you man. But we need you to hide your g~& d@*n end of the world erection from us for a bit. I know you think this means you were right along despite all the people misunderstanding you before whatever triggered this mess we are dealing with. But that force multiplier you keep talking about you need to stop coming across as commandant if you won't it to stick around. How about you give JoJo some time off and we switch places you and I.

Very confused on timeline here it seems like some of this interpersonal communication happened back on the island. But also Marcus posted a reaction to the truck being gone after returning. So in the proper order of thing let's assume conversation between party occurred on island and the party is now at the parking lot with the truck gone. Marcus said his last line about "movement being safety" and Richard responded with "And by the way movement is not safety. I think there is no safety anywhere". And space here for any other reactions to the truck being gone and being at the parking lot. I will be posting in about 5-6 hours what happens along the walk.

Marcus what do you mean by "your viewpoint"? I still think what they did was treachery they left us unguarded and with the sickos able to reach us we were in an unsafe spot. I just think they did so because they were scared of you. Let's hope the truck is there but if it isn't it wouldn't be that far of a walk to Backwoods from Sandy Point.
Greg takes a second to look around at the group. I think that is what the consensus is. We try to see what of your gear and stuff remains at the parking lot. We will be walking past the resort so we can check it out from the road. For now I suggest staying to the road. We would be able to see anyone approaching more easily. I also think we have our weapons at the ready at this time.

Well gee Marcus let's see. Barking orders at everyone. Yelling at everyone. Waving a gun around at all times. To mention just a few things. Hell you worry me sometimes. Not shocked a young couple of Yankees ran from ya when they saw their chance. Greg had to remind himself not to raise his voice.

Think I am happy that they left us in the state they did. Bull$^%1! I am pissed off to0. You're right if Edwin hadn't heard them we would have woke up and our canoes would have been scattered about the lake. It's a 500 yard swim to shore at the very least. But have you stopped to think about why they ran? AND WHAT YOUR ACTIONS LAST NIGHT MIGHT HAVE HAD TO DO WITH IT! Greg realizes that he is yelling and that is stupid under the current situation he continues much quieter. They were probably scarred for the their lives. Your immediate reaction to shoot the fools' boat might mean that they weren't wrong. I get why they pushed our canoes out into the lake they wanted to buy some time for separation. IF they wanted to leave us stranded here Arlo could have just stabbed a hole in each canoe. You are right they may try to hot-wire the truck. So what. It's not like we have any more right to it than they do except that the keys are in your hands. Greg stops his rant and looks around at the camp what he can see of it. Since it is still pre-dawn and there limited light being shed from the groups flashlights and headlamps.
I suggest we check our stuff to make sure nothing was stolen. And then try to get more sleep but if anyone wants to try and chase those two down (pointing out towards the lake in the direction the canoe was last seen. you'd best go quickly. It is still about 90 minutes to dawn.

So it sounds like we are all leaning towards paddling back out to an island for the evening. The closest one is only a thousand feet or so away from here we should be there in a matter of a few minutes. So we are agreed then to the boats and back to an Island for safety?
Greg waits for any objections and then continues.
Let's do our watches by our canoes today. I'll take the first watch alone I doubt I'll get much sleep anyway.

So a watch order of the following is proposed.
9-10 ready campsite for sleeping.
10-11:30 Greg
11:30-1 Marcus and JoJo
1-2:30 Richard and Geoffrey
2:30-4 Yael and Edwin
4-5:30 Arlo and Piper
5:30-7 Brian and Schmitty
7 Rise and shine and to the resort.

How the hell am I supposed to know Marcus is there one there. I haven't been riding around with the guy after all. There is not a CB.
Greg thinks for a second and from the bed of the truck says to everyone
One of the islands we passed not too far back, maybe a 15 minute row, would be big enough for us all to sleep there. It does have a shallow shoreline as you can canoe right up to a sandy beach. Maybe we all spend the night there and try to scout out the resort in the morning when it is light. Not sure if we should be splitting up at this point. But whatever you all think is best. The resort also isn't far from here. Like a 2 minute drive. We can all go and check the perimeter as you suggest and then all go to the island for the night to camp safely. I still think we will need someone on watch at all hours.

While all of your vehicles are parked in our customer lot back at the Backwoods Guide and Canoe Trips in town. Normally at this point in night there wouldn't be too many people just those returning from a trip a little later than normal. Gary who drives the bus and canoe trailer would normally be there as well. But who knows now. Greg stops and thinks for a second before continuing. We are talking about driving along the edge of town. As for sleeping on an island it is not a bad idea but we don't have any food supplies remaining and I am getting hungry myself not sure how everyone else is feeling?

So party seems a bit divided on where to go. Sleep on island or take the truck and go where? Still check out the resort for information or drive directly to Backwoods and to your vehicles.

Greg glares a bit at Marcus who seems to be barking orders at everyone else as if he suddenly is in charge just because he has been waiting for a moment like this his entire life.
Thank you JoJo. He says as he quickly reads the note.

Edgar and Ellie huh. Shame they were a nice older couple in town. He was a painter. She taught at the school. Yeah seems like whatever is going on happened at least a few weeks ago judging by the date and his mention of two weeks. Hah Marcus think of it your whole life you've been absolutely waiting for s@!$ to hit the fan. When it does you're on vacation. He laughs out loud and then looks at Marcus with a bit of pity. Sorry that's not called for. Marcus wants to drive. Not sure if he really knows the way around or anything but sure let's all jump in. The bed will be a bit cramped with 6 of us back there. 2 in the front and 3 in the backseat of the truck.

Looking around at the group of campers he continues. Well if Marcus wants to drive. I need 4 others to be in the cab with him. Yael and Geoffrey you two seem like decent shots, at least from what I've seen, would you mind riding in the bed with me? Also how about you college boys with the oars ride in the back with us?

Greg as he waits for a response goes to the back of the truck and tries to unhitch the trailer. Marcus there's a padlock on chains back here any chance there's a key on that ring?

So Greg is making a suggestion that the split of PCs go Marcus, Edwin, Richard in the cab with the Canterburys. With the Yael, Geoffrey and JoJo plus Brian, Schmitty and Greg in the bed. The time lodge any protests would be now. Oh and the truck key ring has 5 keys besides the one in the ignition.

Keep your cool Greg. The guide thinks to himself as the young New Yorker got in his face. Thankfully not everyone is playing the blame game and the doctor is quick to defend him.
Geoffrey the resort is worth a try and Edwin seems to agree anyone else for that as a plan or do more of you just want to walk the 1.5 miles back to the office and parking lot. Greg looks down at the broken oar at his feet bends and picks the pieces up.
Ok look something more may be up but this guy here had his brains beat in with a paddle. It broke but we still have ours. Until we find out more you might want to carry one around in case we need to do to someone else what was done to this guy here. And Marcus I wouldn't put your gun away yet but try not to walk with it so apparent. Don't want us getting shot as we are seen as a threat to people. Just keep it at your side at the ready.
Greg goes back to the canoe and digs through his backpack pulling out a 12-gauge shotgun he had for protection on the trip and a hatchet he used many times throughout the trip. He places the hatchet through a loop on his pants and strides back towards the group.
Well folks we are a democracy now so we go where the majority votes. I hear two votes for the resort and no other opinions if we get five votes for the resort than that's where we head. I suggest either way you get what you can do without from your camping bags and leave behind what you don't need.

If you choose to pick up an oar as an improvised weapon they will function as a simple weapon with the following stats.
Damage: 1d6
Critical: 20
Range: NA
Weight: 3
Size: Large
Type: Bludgeoning
Special Properties: 10% chance of breaking on dealing damage (1 on 1d10) 50% chance it breaks on a critical roll.
Special note the Large size requires two hands to use and as such applies 1.5 * STR modifier to damage

Greg turns around to face back towards his last group of campers. There is an obvious concerned look on his face.
Something is off. The bus and trailer from Backwoods isn't here. It's very weird that someone left all those canoes just laying around but we are probably going to do the same thing. Let me try to get a hold of someone from work and see if they can't help us out. Even if we just got a few cars we could get you all back to your vehicles at the Backwoods lot. It could all be a big case of miscommunication. Uh Yael what was that about boots?
Greg gives Marcus a look of disdain as the man has obviously distressed everyone else more so than is required. Then he turned in the direction Yael pointed and sure enough sticking out of the woods poking above the grass was a pair of boots. With Greg's head lamp pointed directly at it the body that the boots were attached to was visible. Greg quickly diverted his light.
Sorry folks no one should have to see that. If you have a squeamish stomach I suggest you stay here. Geoffrey can you come take a closer look at this with me?

Greg starts off towards the body only half visible due to the forest surrounding the parking lot.

Above is a link to a google doc map. Feel free to move your token around to match your post description. If you are unable to move your token for some reason say so and someone can move it for you.

GeoffreyOnlyIfYouApproach:

Greg and you approach the boots and body. The lower half of the body is visible but the torso and head lie in the brush outside the parking lot. It isn't until you are about 5' away and Greg's light squarely on it that you see the signs of rigor mortis. The corpse has a large gaping wound on its head. Fragments of skull and brain matter spread out into the forest. The foul smell is horrendous.
