"A beekeeper? Seems a humble beginning for a burgeoning villain. Like a wainwright turning into a dragon."

I'll be in St. Paul, MN for the rest of the week so my posting may be sporadic. Don't hold up the game on my account

"I'm always up for a bit more fun. Tell us about Tenzekil and I'll try to get the sap out of my nice new clothes. Probably ruined. This Tenzekil person is going to reimburse me for these clothes."

"Elyin, this is by far the BEST wedding I have ever been to. But...um...where's your wife?"

"We should find Elyin and Kailah, make sure they're alright. Elyin's probably gone ten kinds of soft without us."

Gideon redoubles his efforts and really concentrates on his attack, forgoing his usual flair in favor of competence.

Attack: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (16) + 12 = 281d6 + 6 + 1d6 ⇒ (4) + 6 + (3) = 13

Gideon slashes at the last enemy

Piranha Strike: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (1) + 10 = 111d6 + 10 + 1d6 ⇒ (5) + 10 + (3) = 18

Gideon drops his sword which somehow bounces and impales his head killing him instantly. Or at least it would have, had he not already died of shame. DAMN YOU RNG!!!!!!

Gideon attacks again.

Piranha Strike: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (6) + 10 = 161d6 + 1d6 + 10 ⇒ (6) + (5) + 10 = 21

DC14 Fort to avoid 1 Str Damage if hit from the Chill Touch

Cast defensively: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (3) + 14 = 17 Just enough to cast Chill Touch!

Gideon once again charges his sword with magical energies, this time necromantic, and hacks at the nearest vine creature.

Piranha Strike Attack: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (1) + 10 = 111d6 + 1d6 + 10 ⇒ (1) + (1) + 10 = 12

Miss! 7 remaining uses of Chill Touch this casting.

My first round action was to cast shield. I don't think we're at round 2 already are we? Edit: I'm at the top of the initiative anyway, so I ought to post Round 2. Doing it now.

"I hope these Fey like it cold!" Gideon charges his scimitar with magical energy. It steams in the warm air as he moves to one of the creatures.

Arcane Pool point to power up my weapon with additional +2 enhancement as a swift action. Spell Strike with Frigid Touch. Kind of hard to see but frigid touch is linked for convenience.

Spellstrike: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (19) + 14 = 331d6 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 144d6 ⇒ (6, 3, 3, 5) = 17

Crit Confirmation: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (7) + 14 = 211d6 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 124d6 ⇒ (3, 6, 4, 5) = 18

Edit: Paizo is formating these dice rolls weird. The attack is a 33 for 14 damage and 17 from Frigid Touch. The confirmation is 21 for 12 damage and 18 more from Frigid Touch.

Edit 2: Just realized that they're large and I probably need an acrobatics roll to avoid an AoO

Acrobatics: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (18) + 15 = 33

Abilities Used:
Shield, Lightning Bolt, 1 Pool Point

[ooc]On the off chance these are magical creatures and not plants, I'll roll Knowledge: Arcana.

Arcana: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (11) + 14 = 25

With surprisingly atypical caution, Gideon casts Shield calling into being a pale glowing disk or protection. "Have another one of those fireballs?"

"You know how you sometimes think you were victorious and you're wondering which two of the village girls that you just saved will crawl up to a hayloft with you and then something way worse happens and you wonder if you'll ever get to a hayloft with two village girls again? I have that feeling right now."

Same here. We're the arcane artillery!

Thanks for rolling my Intimidate, Will. Work has been absolutely butt hurtingly crazy. I don't know if any of you work in government, but sometimes the Feds get what they think is an awesome idea and it just makes us state level folk weep our way to the top of a tall building.

Once the guests clear the way, Gideon pulls his veil from his shirt and, eyes glowing with eldritch power, releases a stream of crackling lightning through the main mass of insects.

If you just want to use the previous damage rolls, it totaled 23.

Initiative: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15

Is there any way to get off a lightning bolt without frying one of the wedding guests? If so, I'll do it. If not, I've got nothing to help so I'll just try to evacuate civilians to give my companions are better chance of using their own AOE spells.

lighning bolt if possible: 7d6 ⇒ (5, 1, 5, 1, 4, 6, 1) = 23

Gideon sits with the others in the second row.

Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20

"Yes, afterwards. Maybe Surveen will even manage to hit a couple now that he's seen how the professionals do it!"

"Kiss me for luck, Spark."

The tiny Lyrakien plants an equally tiny kiss on Gideon's cheek. "Go for the close one. He just got lucky before, you just need to score."

"Here goes nothing!"

Throw vs DC 15: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (1) + 10 = 11

Oh no! I hope he misses too!

OK, Surveen, Halak. Let us play!" Gideon tosses with his characteristic flair, leaping and spinning. He aims for the middle post, thinking to get a higher score without trying for the really difficult shots.
Throw 1: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (17) + 10 = 27

Throw 2: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14

Throw 3: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (17) + 10 = 27

"Six points for me! Bet you a beer you can't beat that, Surveen!"

I'm ok skipping the mini-games and just having you narrate the competition or whatever. Move us along and whatnot.

"That would be cheating and probably bad luck for the couple. No, we play this one straight, gentlemen. Can someone tell us how to play?"

"You wouldn't believe the terribly boring place we had to travel though to get here! But it was worth it, I think. Everything is most lovely."

No worries. I have plenty to do with Mass Effect 3!

"There I feel like a new man. The tunic looks a little lumpy with my chain shirt beneath it, though. I really thought I'd pull that off better. Oh well, warriors can't be choosers!" Gideon happily moves off toward the Gazebo with the rest of the party.

"Shouldn't we change real quick? Present ourselves fashionably dressed?"

With all of his characteristic impetuousness, Gideon doesn't wait for a response and goes behind the bushes by the the river to quickly change before heading to the gazebo.

"Good thing we haven't changed. I'd get my glorious new clothes a mess from the ribs!"

Hawke piles a plate with ribs and other choice bits but avoids rice and most of the seafood. He doesn't talk about it much, but the three of you are aware of the hatred he has for his old living conditions in Tien and he avoids foods that remind him of that time.

"Food! An excellent idea. Fuel for dancing!"

"Where's Elyin? Can I dance, too? Did we miss the meal?"

Gideon draws his scimitar. "Better safe than sorry, I think. Never trust a portal of swirling shadows, I say. I say that all the time."

Now prepared, Gideon moves through the portal.

Before the water elemental leaves, Gideon pulls a copper from his pouch and set it alight with a short incantation. This done, he plops it into the elemental's watery form.

"I know it's ridiculous, but I can't tell you how much I want to go out there just to see what happens." Gideon suddenly smiles brightly, anyone dare me?"

"Don't you dare," chides Spark, rising from Gideon's backpack and stretching her tiny frame languidly. She sits on Gideon's shoulder. "You stay right here and don't go haring off like a crazy person. And next time don't let me nap when you go into some terrible shadowy place. What if you needed me?" She is adorably protective.

Spark has a constant Detect Evil and Detect Magic effect. If the light and voice are within 30' does she sense evil? Or magic if within 60'?

Gideon follows, lighting the pommel of his sheathed scimitar. "Much better to not die at all, obviously..."

Gideon pokes his head through to look around. "Looks shadowy and terrible. Should be fun. Unless its uninhabited, then it will be seven hours of tedium and monotony and I shall probably die from boredom."

Gideon settles on a sky blue doublet, cream colored leather breeches, and manages to arrange a new black silk head scarf and veil into a sort of cravat with much of its length stuffed into the doublet. "Never know when I'll need a fight and I never fight without one. It's lucky. It must be or I'd never have survived this long."

Swanky!

"In an hour then! Let's try this gentleman's store. I'm thinking something with a cravat."

"Why wait? We'll either find something or we won't when we get there. Elyin would rather have us there naked then not at all. If we delay, the arcanist's son could get kidnapped again or something. And then where would we be?"

"Well, lets go find him then. We have a wedding to attend! I wonder if he has any nicer clothes... I think I'll feel silly in my armor and such."

Gideon looks over his travel stained garments with the sort of dismay you never see the boisterous magus show in battle.

I feel very confident that Gideon would not turn down a chance to make a bigger boom.

@Gideon: your familiar is safe when it is directly with you - can't be separately targeted or damaged by area of effect spells. When off on an errand for you it is vulnerable. This is basically a time and attention saving abstraction.

Cool.

With chill touch, my read is that it acts as a multi-use held touch. So they are not wasted if you miss, but remaining charges are lost if you cast a different spell. This makes most sense form a perspective of vancian spell casting, and means that chill touch finds a nice balance between giving you a whole combat worth of spellstrike, as opposed to burning resources on higher damage spells that can only be used once.

This is how my RL GM ruled it also but it took like a week of email discussion and research so I thought it might be questionable enough to run it by you.

Tudan, I think Make Whole is a fine choice. Bull's Strength is going to be useful only for Surveen and not even for him for very long. Grace is silly. Make Whole can fix all kinds of stuff and even be a way to win the help of an NPC.

Grace is not a terribly impressive spell for me. First, its personal only so it lacks versatility. Second, it has a short duration. Third, attacks of opportunity are often either weak or entirely avoidable. Fourth, if you paralyze or blind someone, their ability to make an AoO is severely hampered/non-existant.

In addition to Hold Person, which I still think rocks, Ancestral Communion is cool but between me and Vos, we can do a lot of Knowledge. Ghostbane Dirge is also cool but I don't know how much incorporeal stuff we'd face.

Thank you kindly, sir. No particular rush, your answer doesn't change my choices at all, just how I play.

OK, languages are picked and Spark, my Lyrakien familiar, has a stat block in a spoiler down towards the bottom of the page.

I've actually never played a character with a familiar. I plan to have her sit on my shoulder or something of that nature. Is she targetable by attackers? What happens when I am caught in an area of effect spell like fireball?

Question two, how do you want to deal with Chill Touch and Spellstrike? If I cast it I have seven uses of it when my weapon hits. Are charges wasted if I miss or do they follow rules for held touch? Can I cast another spell while using Chill Touch? If Chill Touch is basically a number of held touches, then I lose it if I cast another spell. But what it says is that I can "use it a number of times equal to my level." Not very specific to my mind.

Gideon is done now including a tactics block.

Mundane mounts are pretty fragile. On the bright side, with Mounted Combat and a decent Ride score, you can ignore the occasional attack to your horse. But that won't help you if you both get caught in a breath attack or something.

OK, sorry I haven't been about. I got food poisoning on Wednesday and that sucked. Now my wife has it so I'm on baby duty. Been fun.

I can definitely get a level 7 put together by or early on Monday.

Before I make a Magus, though, I wondering if I'm not stepping too much on Sharadon Vos' toes. Should I make something else so we don't have two sword and sorcery types?

Round 3, Init 9

Gideon's veil twitches. It is certain that he's either smiling at the challenge or frowning at his last failure. It's one of the two but with Gideon is so mercurial, it's hard to tell.

He swipes again at the skeleton.

Spellstrike: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (11) + 10 = 211d6 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 74d6 ⇒ (3, 5, 2, 4) = 14

Kapow! That time it worked.

Surveen is the one that's up, I thought. I went out of turn which may have been confusing.

Is there any interest in running another of these concurrently rather than consequtively? Perhaps at level 6 so we can keep ourselves more organized? I know it's a lot of work, but at the rate we're going I'm worried we won't playtest much otherwise.

Edit: Nope, Gideon only gets the one attack. I used Spellstrike instead of Spellcombat since it would only be a standard action and that way Gideon could go to whichever skelly was still around. Spellstrike just lets you make your touch attack with a weapon roll, it doesn't grant an extra attack. If I was sure I could target the one closest to me when my turn comes around I could have take a 5' step and done spell combat giving me a weapon roll and a touch attack but I wanted to be sure I could make a move and not slow us down.

PS My conference calls are over so I'm back and monitoring closely.

Oh, right. I can't roll well unless I'm attacking you. Maybe you could just be the bad guy for this encounter?

I can't roll sh*t.

I can't roll downhill.
