The way that I see it being is this: the people in my thread will be the heroic, adventurer-type PCs who do the more typical hero stuff, just with some politics mixed in and a VERY hefty amount of roleplay. GM Leviathan's game, at least as far as I can tell, will be the inverse: the PCs are nobility who plot and do politics and likely have a dash of 'typical adventurer' stuff, such as stealing an incriminating document, fighting off assassins sent by a rival, ect. I am unsure if that is exactly how it will play on GM Leviathan's end, but that is how I imagine it.

@CommandoDude, I don't anticipate it being an issue.

I will work on a character sometime soon and submit it for your perusal soon, GM Leviathan!

Ok, so who is still up for the game? I am really interested in seeing how the game will go with the interweaving of stories!

Oh wow, it was just a side game?! Count your GM as officially back in the fold, so to speak! Let me check and see who all is still up for it! :D

Sorry for the issues, everyone! Recovery has not been fun, but I am well now. Relearning how to use a keyboard is not exactly a walk in the park.

While I am sad that this campaign has been taken over in the time I was absent, I am rather happy that you all have found a DM/GM willing to take over such an ambitious campaign.

@GM Leviathan: If you need any help figuring out the campaign, please let me know. If I fail to respond, ask my friend Ange de la Nuit to get in touch with me.

Dot! First post coming soon!

Speak unto the thread!

Time for my selections!

1. Ange de la Nuit's slotted character (dedicated caster)

2. CommandoDude's Lexarius Rubicon

3. Phoenix Hunter's Detective Blackhart

4. Thunderbeard's Sir Darren Carter

5. LordLuke's Velius Kross

These messageboards have been simply wonderful! So many applicants have such amazing characters, it was hard to choose such a small portion of them. I wish everyone the best in getting into campaigns!

Those selected, head to discussion!

Either way. So long as your fluff is done and you have a general idea on what you want to play. I just prefer crunch to be finalized. Ok, nap time!

Technically the deadline was a few hours ago, but I am extending it a bit further. Nothing like a migraine to screw with posting. Regardless, take this time to finish up whatever you were doing to your character, put on final touches with it, ect.

It's all good folks. I don't usually have headaches, but this was a pretty bad one.

As an aside, for those who are selected tomorrow, I will be taking my lovely out on a date, so just letting you guys know my posting will be close to zilch on Saturday. I'll try to slip a post or two in for you guys, but I'm unsure if that will be feasible without being terribly rude.

EDIT: Said 'you guys' one too many times. Ugh. I'm about to go take a nap in a little bit. I think that heat got to me a bit because I've been working since about 30 minutes after I got up around 3:30 and I only got about6 1/2 hours sleep anyway.

Recruitment closes tomorrow! Finalize your characters! There will be 4 players selected, along with one slotted character!

@Phoenix Hunter: It is approved, assuming you are willing to pay for it. I DO want some fluff on intelligent magic items, however. By that I mean I want you to fully detail the item's personality beyond the normal sentence or two that most intelligent items get.

Crafting items: I did not explain well enough, so it is my fault. Yes, you may have crafted equipment from as far back as you have a crafting feat. To represent this, you have standard starting GP value in standard cost magic items up until the level crafting is available to you. THEN you can start getting your 1/2 cost magic items.

To give an example: You are planning on your cohort being a crafter. You can gain Leadership as early as 7th level. Assuming you build your cohort as starting with at least one crafting feat when you gain him/her, you will be able to start crafting from level 7 onwards. This means that up to 23,500 GP worth of equipment will be standard cost, with the remaining 86,500 GP allocatable, which is not a word but it is now, towards crafting costs. Make sense?

@CommandoDude: War Master is allowed and you may choose to incorporate being the Princess' retainer into your background. Since she will not be joining the PCs, for obvious reasons, perhaps she is using you as an informant?

Someone remind me to post replies to everyone's questions, it's almost 6:00 A.M. here and a few hours of sleep before class today is on my agenda!

Give me some time to look over things. The internet was out at the dorms and I didn't even check earlier, since I had been gone for Easter.

@Karl: Holy Jeebus that's a long bit of background! I am liking what I see thus far. Feel free to expand on it to whatever extent you desire!

@thunderbeard: I have absolutely no problem with combining magic items, using the pre-established guidelines for doing so. Limited slots DO exist for a reason, but if PCs are willing to hemorrhage that much gold into double items, I see no reason why not to allow it.

@Roonfizzle Garnackle: I am fine with Craft Crystalline Focus. I am equally fine with PC cohorts crafting magic items. I will allow downtime crafting, should PCs wish to spend parts of their downtime crafting items personally. It also does not bother me if PCs have crafted items for each other at some point, so long as they can explain when it was and such.

WHAAAAAAT?! Create Rum?! Every Cleric needs that spell on their list! Bloody price-gouging tavern owners! :P

1 person marked this as a favorite.

And ye shall all be known as 'Ze Craftman's Guild', which is just a glorified way of saying you are murderhobos who force wizards and clerics into sweatshops to make your magic items cheap! Some heroes you all are! ;P

EDIT: This is an obvious rum-induced jest, so take no offense, ye lords and ladies of Taldor! :)

@william Nightmoon: 10th level? That's a bit low for this campaign! You mean take your necromancer and bring him up to the character creation guidelines?

@Jonakhan: I have no problems with Words of Power, including SOME of the 3PP stuff that was released for said system of magic. If you use it though, come up with some awesome sounding names to shout when you use the abilities, ok? "FUS RO DAH!!!" Any of the concepts are fine, though the non-evils make more sense within the context of the campaign unless you have an angle like, e.g. the LE Lion Blade or something.

@rorek55: If you want to make a cohort be your craft-o-matic, I have no issues with it. It would actually make things easier to run because PCs wouldn't have to worry about gunky crafting for 7+ days to get an item, plus it would give you an excuse to leave your follower behind at times.

@Alynthar42: A super awesome gaming party wherein everyone played Squidwhistler Goblins on a grand quest raiding and pillaging The Shackles. There was real life rum too! Nothing like having a group of PCs as stuffy Cheliax mariners and another playing crazed Goblin pirates! Poor Captain Jock Parakeet, we knew him well! As a note, he was kind of killed by a cannon that backfired, blasting backwards and squishing him in between it and another cannon. His last words, [b]"Release... the... Kraken... *HURK*!". His first mate retrieved the fearsome... 1 foot baby octopus and proceeded to throw it on the Chelaxian captain's face. The octopus panicked and latched onto the captain's face, which blinded him and allowed for the other Goblins to overrun him. The Goblins won the battle of course, crazed little pyromaniac, kleptomaniac wanna-be pirates they were.

@Angelpalm: Is that character from THE Cage, as in Sigil? It's not a part of this cosmology, but feel free to keep the vernacular and the attitude!

@Saving Cap'n Crunch: Kitten tattoos with death-laser eyes?! SO MUCH ADORABLE!

Just so people know, I am also opening up a WAY OF THE WICKED CAMPAIGN! My buddy finally wants to play it from the PC side and I want to GM good guys for once. It will be gestalt and my buddy is planning on playing some icily calm mage-samurai of death. So expect that up like today-ish!

Oh holy Jeebus... all these posts! I will reply to them after I get through partying later!

@CommandoDude: Planning on ending the campaign at 20th level. I wanted the opportunity to explore the upper levels of non-Mythic power on the boards, since such things are rare on almost every PBP site.

@Angelpalm: What type of pistol, specifically? And which 3.X feats?

@Phylotus: The campaign traits have not been posted yet. Out of curiosity, is your name a mash-up of phylum and lotus?

@Thunderbeard: Fluff is much more important in my opinion. Lyres of Building are perfectly permissible and can prove pretty useful.

Recruitment closed in 1 week, 1 day, 1 hour, 1 minute from the original post. Why? Because reasons! Primarily because that's my arbitrary number that I have selected. So recruitment officially closes March 9 at 4:40 P.M.

Godlings of any sort are permissible, though only one can be selected due to the massive story impact they have. Bonus for those tying their character to slain Aroden or perhaps the vanished Peacock King, due to the campaign themes!

And yes, you all do gain the 3 ability score bonuses for leveling up.

@Rorek55: king as in the actual king or as in the most charismatic PC?

@Alynthar: what sort of undead do you have planned? Multitudes of smaller ones or a few more powerful ones? Disguised or undisguised? Legally or illegally acquired?

@LordLuke: No particular preference. There is a monastery in Taldor for Monks and Slayers can easily acquire their skills in the kingdom, due to all of the backstabbing and such going on among the nobles and commoners alike.

@Bane88: As in the Worldwound Crusades?

For Taldor indeed!

Here is the recruitment thread.

Can someone check and see if their alias photo selections are down too? I can't see any pictures when I go to select one. PM me what you discover.

I was a few minutes late on getting the recruitment done, but only just!

Taldor is a land of lost glories, an empire teetering on the brink of ruin. The nation is stretched thin and threadbare, having lost several satrap states like Cheliax because of massive overreach. Taldor's courts, once bastions of civility, honor, and justice, have become diseased, filled with corrupt bureaucrats, backstabbing nobles, and a pampered king who symbolizes all the empty decadence and power-mongering of the elite. Whispers of a new war with Qadira echo in the nation's courts, threatening to bring the final blow to the the ailing land if the desert kingdom decides to finally retake Taldor. The age is dark and the problems are many. It is clear that Taldor needs heroes. Will you step up and breathe life back into the nation? Or will your actions inadvertently snuff out the kingdom forever?

This is a homebrew campaign set in Taldor, featuring a few modules from Paizo and a lot of material I have used in my own campaigns over the years, all put together into a single, epic campaign! If you want more info on Taldor, HERE is a decent-seized primer on the nation from the Pathfinder Wiki. If you are hungry for yet more information and/or want to support Paizo, HERE is Paizo's official player's companion for Taldor, which has quite a bit of spoiler-free material for player's to peruse.

Now, let's get around to what you need to build a character, shall we? Thanks to my buddy known as Divinitus for the character creation template!

Character Creation Details

Starting Level: 12. Remember to include your ability score bonuses as well as the appropriate level of feats and such.

HP: Max HP per HD.

Starting Gold: 110,000 GP, which is 2,000 GP above the average wealth-by-level, but I like gold to be even like that for character creation. You also get a non-magical outfit of your choice, apart from a royal outfit.

Race: Any race is possible, but unless you have a REALLY compelling character, please do not choose something outlandish like a Goblin or a Lashunta!

Alignment: Any but CE. That said, those who are evil PLEASE try to be team players!

Class: All Paizo-produced classes are legal for this AP, along with MOST archetypes. I will also allow some 3PP material, though it must be cleared before being used. To answer the likely most-asked questions about 3PP allowances, if it is a Dreamscarred Press class for Pathfinder related to the Psionics, Path of War, or Akashic Mysteries lines, it is allowed. Totally stole this verbatim from Divinitus! :P

Ability Scores: 24 point build, on a 1-1 scale, from a base of 10. To give an example of this, if you are playing a Sorceror and want an 18 CHA, you take the base of 10, spend 8 ability score points, and you're at 18. You may reduce a score by up to 3 points in order to gain a commensurate amount of points that is added to your 'point pool'. This is a fancy way of saying if you want more points, just cut them from your scores. To give an example, if you need 3 more ability score points for a M.A.D. build, you can cut one ability score by 3 points down to a 7, one ability score by 2 and another by 1, or 3 scores by a single point each. Make sense? While I am giving you a LOT of ability score points to work with, please do not go all munchkin and completely powergame. If your character is an Orc Barbarian with 24/18/18/08/08/08, you may wish to think up another character. I do not mind optimization, but blatant powergaming is something I have an issue with unless the campaign is set in Rappan Athuk or something.

Skills: You get +1 skill point per level.

Feats: You get a bonus feat at first level.

Traits: 2 standard, plus a bonus trait if you choose to take a Drawback. There will be a list of homebrewed campaign traits if anyone is interested in taking one of those included sometime today or tomorrow.

Fluff: This is what I'm looking for, so place some level of priority on making a good backstory and a well-developed persona for your character.

Posting Requirements: At least once a day, though more are preferred. I would like something around the area of 2 posts a day, but I can deal with 1 per day. Also, I am GM'ing this game with the intention to finish it, so I hope that you intend to play to its conclusion. If there is an actual reason for you to drop, let me know in advance and I will work your retirement into the story. Little annoys me more in PBP than players just poofing for 2+ weeks and they finally post saying that they choose to drop, especially if it's something where they can just post and say 'hey not interested anymore/I'm really busy please bot me/I'm in the hospital for growing a second head/whatever'.
