Ya know I would agree that it works on lava, assuming it's a very liquidy lava. The problem is that it has a strict 10ft range limit, and getting within 10 feet of lava is generally very bad. Also, all the lava that doesn't get turned into wine would boil away the newly magicked spirit pretty quick.

I would say the reach applies to either since we are going with a fantasy world and in stories (anime and such) the kama part is thrown even if real world it wouldn't work as well as the wieght. Even though it doesn't say it it I would assume that like the double chain kama, you lose the double weapon property when using the reach property.

Edit actually upon rereading it maybe you don't. Upon rereading I could see it meaning the ball has reach but not the kama but then you don't lose the double weapon property (although opportunities to use reach and attack with the kama at the same time are likely to be few I would think) Definitely worth a faq to see what the intent was.

I probably wouldn't bring any save or die's over but there are few utility and fun spells in Second Ed that I may have to try and port over.
Namely Nemicron's Transference that let you switch the properties of one material with the properties of another. Things like hardness, melting point even edibility (not sure how that last one worked but it doesn't matter, it's never come up) It was a easy way for characters to make cool looking gear like swords made of ice and what not.

Also the Special Effects spell. It's only purpose was to allow wizards the abilty to have various permanent non harmful special effects like glowey eyes or hands, constantly wind blown hair and what not. It was a kind of silly one but it allowed for your characters to make quite an entrance.
There were a few others, but these were the ones that showed up the most when I played 2nd Ed.

You had things that you had to cut but left Jason X on the list? I will forgive you because I see Wayne Barlowe on there. Wayne Barlowe's Guide to Extraterrestrials was basically a childhood reading guide for me. From there I read Childhood's End and Larry Niven's Neutron Star. But then again, I don't see Outlaw Star or John Christopher's Tripod trilogy.

Actually, now that I look through the list, I'm a bit suprised not to see the original Transformers series on there. I mean, I see Silverhawks (and I am super happy to see that) But no Transformers, no He-man, no She-ra and no Exo-Squad (I loved me some Exo-Squad)

I know I'm really late to this party, but this might be relevant to people who want miniatures for some of the more obscure mythological monsters. There is a company called Paymaster games that makes miniatures based on Native American and Pacific Islander mythology and history. They are currently in the process of making a miniature for Cipactli, the multi mouth crocodile monster in this book. Check em out. They are pretty small right now, I think they only have an Ebay store and do Kickstarters occasionally.

I can get on again so yay! Shortly after I said that last time, nothing worked for me me once again. Couldn't go to the main page, couldn't go to the prd, couldn't even get to the message boards to say, "Hey, I can't get to anything!" I'm here now and I hope it lasts.

Yay! I can finally access this site. Couldn't access anything at all accept the first page of the Prd since sunday and only because the prd main page was still in my cache. After I cleared that I ended up with nothing. Too bad I don't remember why I was trying to access the site any more. :(

For the record, fey aren't immune to poison or cold, but Nereids specifically are. So She could use the poison tactic, but many probably don't think it necessary since they are a fairly tough monster on their own as it is.

I don't think the Nereid gets to choose what she puts her soul into, I think the shawl is something they come into existence with.

If everything is "Party Gear" why does he have to carry it? Aren't you part of the party too. Shouldn't you be able to lighten his load and use some if as well?

Reaper and Stonehaven have some good Tengu minis. Stonehaven also has Grippli (albeit very small) and a couple of Kitsune. Reaper also has some nice Kitsune coming eventually.

Sadly off hand I only know of one mini that would work for a Vanara. Valient Enterprises has a pretty good monkey man, but that's about it off the top of my head.

Wonderwoman has never really been hung up on killing people when she felt it was needed. She just tries to avoid when possible. However Batman and Supes really need to stop being shocked and appalled every time it happens. But then that's an issue for another discussion. I haven't really been keeping up with comics lately. They're doing another Civil War? So soon. I really wasn't impressed with the first one.

in a world that has moved past the stone age, it's actual reasonable to befriend neighboring intelligent creatures and uplift them.

especially if they have different preferences in land. imagine if dolphins were intelligent enough to reasonably communicate. They'd get the oceans and we'd get the land, and our wars would have to do with how each of us try to dispose of waste.

And the wars would be bloody and cruel because dolphins are jerks.

However most fantasy worlds have multiple races and I'm fine with it. I wouldn't see it as unreasonable to pair them down to just what the DM wants to deal with though. Even human only can be fun at times.

Mystic Theurge can work, it's just a bit hard to pull off. In a game with lots of Melee guys and no other full casters you'll still be king but if there is a full divine or arcane caster in the party, your fun may be diminished.

Something else that may help if you go Sorcerer/oracle though. If you take Psychic blood line all your sorcerer spells become psychic instead of arcane so you can still wear armor. Reasonably certain you still count as an arcane caster for the purposes of the prestige class.

Actually. How young are we talking for this character. An eight year old me, would have gone with Pterodactyl-man or something along that line because eight year old me thought the idea of a flying dinosaur was just awesome! Adult me has difficulty disagreeing but would likely choose a different name.

Maybe Terror-dactyl.

Kids tend to choose things that are over the top and a bit silly sounding to the adult ear.
What kind of theme is he going for? I could see a kid going by Bloodfist or Lifereaper. What would 10 year old you have gone for?

I like what you have so far, but I wish to add that Lupines are not a Piazo created race. They've been around since Basic as monsters and given player stats in 2nd ed as part of the Red Steel setting and a Dragon magazine article that introduced a large number of subraces based on the various dog breeds and related species (including a small sized one based on the fennec fox) The ones in Red Steel mostly came from a country with a mixture of Colonial France and Spain like culture. But I think the original write up in the adventure they appeared in had them more Native American and wolf-like. Paizo went is that it seems.

I was under the impression that the kiss was just an example of how the succubus could do the drain, not the specific way she drains.

Hm... I seem to recall that happening in a novel, too, but my brain might have partially long ago fully abandoned ship.

EDIT:

According to this, the "Moonshae series" (I think that means the Moonshae trilogy) had a troll who, under "exceptional circumstances" was able to cut his fingers off each night to create an army. Later it notes that a module does so, but that was countered by "only in the Moonshae trilogy"... and I don't know that I've read that trilogy, so... *shrug* I'unno.

EDIT 2: Same link, it mentions Streams of Silver, which I have read, and this seems to confirm it.

Also, fairly far down, is a post that mentions in the 2E MM that there are conflicting bits: one where the troll must wait for its head to grow back, and another where the troll regrows from a limb in about a week; it also mentions two spoilers in the Baldur's Gate game about trolls that indicate "both...

Yeah. None of the authors really looked up how a monster worked for a story and if they had most authors would ignore it if it was better for the story. Officially (ie the monster manual) trolls regrew from the biggest surviving part, but most people assumed they worked like planeria (which probably makes more sense in the end. but dear God would that be horrifying.)

I agree with Aelryinth on this. Never let specific rules over rule a fun idea. I'd talk with your Dm and see if your mug can be enchanted or if you need to buy a new one for it or if you can get a masterwork transformation on it. (likely paying the 300gp for it not the 50) The exact specific could be debated all day here but the only important thing is what you and your DM decide.

With a low charisma it's going to be tricky. Letting the creature stew in the circle for a while is fine and you can probably get away with a little unpleasantness to weaken it, but straight up torture is going to be hard to justify if you're going to be doing this a lot. You could be relatively successful this way and still be neutral but the easiest way to be successful in this with a low charisma is unfortunately to be evil.

The best good binders are going to be very charismatic or at least have dumped a bunch of money on cha buffing items.

The letter does assume that you did nothing of note to upset the Celestial creature. Just did a poor job of whatever ritual is required for binding, perhaps left the window open and all the lantern archons just floated away.(never had a character get high enough for this so I don't know much about it, in the end I was simply trying to be humorous)At any rate at least the neighbors won't be upset with you. Even if the angels leave in a huff.

Also wouldn't binding any of these creatures for menial tasks be wasteful as well? Significant risk for not significant gain?

I would still bind Angels and Celestials over fiends, if only because there is zero consequences for failure or it escaping (assuming you are not evil, if you are evil then your consequences rise dramatically.)
If your bound demon monster escapes, the surviving townsfolk are going to be knocking down your door with battering rams made of paladins. No one is happy here.

If your bound angel escapes (again assuming you and your neighborhood are not evil). Then this is the kind of apology letter you'll be sending to the city council.

Dear Sir or Madame
I must apologize for the recent series of incidents involving my attempts to bind beings from beyond the mortal realm.
First as you may recall I had attempted to bind a squad of lantern archons. As you are well aware, the broke free of my hasty bindings and rampaged throughout the countryside like a band of reverse will o the wisps leading lost souls home.
Then I attempted to bind two angelic followers of Shelyn and Arshea respectively. Unfortunately my magic was still not as up to task as I had hoped and the powerful creatures broke free and rampaged throughout the countryside spreading love and inspiring art all through the land.
Undeterred, I decided to try and bind but a single creature this time and attempted to bind an Azata beholden to Cayden Cailean. Sadly even then my bindings failed, and the creature broke free and rampaged throughout the countryside. You may recall, if not in precise detail, the swinging party that erupted as a result.
I understand your frustration at the continued mishaps of rampaging celestial beings breaking free of my Citidel Sorcorium. I assure you my protections are currently in order and more than adequate for my next attempt. Where I shall summon an archon follower of Erastil.
