At thee risk of beating a dead horse...

Has anyone found an errata that grants clarity to this reaction, or grants a definitive time limit?

AoO causes a Strike.
Don't have the book close. Wasn't sure how it was worded.

But the reaction says against "the triggering damage", NOT the triggering attack.

Did you ever get an answer to how low it lasts?
I have always assumed it was for the present combat encounter.

I think Paizo going forward will handle certain content differently than they had in the past. While I disagree with their decision not to sanction AoE, I now expect them not to sanction the upcoming Malevolence adventure.

I have been running the AP, assuming it would be sanctioned. I really like it. I love urban adventures, and playing guards is an excellent role playing opportunity. Now that the announcement has been made, I am really angry. I am very tempted to throw out all the books I've bought or burn them. I will certainly not buy AP in the future, nor run them until sanctioning is published. I am livid.

This is what I was hoping someone would say! I plan to run Edgewater after I complete Plaguestone in a PFS based campaign arc. Too bad it takes so long, though. Since these are PFS characters I cannot give them credit for their XP. That is a wrinkle in my nefarious plans...

Anything yet?

Sovereign Court 1/5

I played my first session of P2 the other night, so I am new to it. What has happened to the Players Guide? Someone mentioned it was going to be online from now on? Will it have targeted updates, as before?

Final question: WHERE IS IT?

Sovereign Court 1/5

Where is the Guide located for P2?

Sovereign Court

I hope this is in the right place, forgive me if not. My question is this: Can I create a drone that my PC can ride in? If I have a Ysoki mechanic (Doesn't everyone?) who is small, why couldn't I create my drone (which is medium sized), to have a "cockpit" in which my PC could ride and fight?

Next Question: Would such a thing be society legal?

Sovereign Court 1/5

Is there a Chronicle for book 1 out there, in the ether, somewhere?

Sovereign Court

When can I sign up for organized play?

Also - will the new adventures be released on/before the release date for the CRB? (I know - you don't know yet, LOL)

Will the Starfinder Society thus use the same release schedule as the PFS?

Sovereign Court

Obviously, Paizo doesn't own the rights to Star Wars, so they could not even approach the subject. As to how convertible it would be, well I guess we will have to wait and see. Judging by the space combat example I just watched, it could be converted, but not officially.

Sovereign Court

WOW - for me, a bear of little brain, I could care less whether the eventual outcome is to discover the "big mystery" or not. I want good adventures, well written (With the GM running them in mind!), and room for loads of space combat, blasters firing and derring-do!

Frankly, I am looking forward to something different from Pathfinder. Not there is anything wrong with it, and I am certainly not tired of it, but a little spice now and again is a good thing - even though salt is essential for life.

Sovereign Court 1/5

UPDATE!

PFS is being run once a month on a Saturday Day of Games, two adventures. We usually have 4-5 tables. There are always 1-5 level adventures being run in starting at 1100 or so, on multiple tables. In the evening we have a mid level and higher level table. There is also PFS every Thursday night, usually 1-2 tables low to mid levels.

You don't need a character to play the first time, we have Pre-Generated characters available. We are very open to new players!

Game Headquarters has a new location - Suite B, 9118 South Western Avenue, Oklahoma City, OK 73139
(405) 691-0509

Hope to see you there!

Sovereign Court 1/5

Thanks Starglim! I remade my own map for the ship that made more sense. A ladder into the forecastle from the weather deck ON THE BOW makes no sense what so ever! First time the ship drove into waves of any height the ship would flood and sink. 3D10 minutes for a wooden ship to burn to the gunwales? Seriously?

How is this thread not locked?

I mean, given some of the stuff that has been deleted and locked by the MODs over the years, this thread seems like a no-brainer candidate.

But then maybe no one's flagged it...

Or, the MODs are already here participating as little-known avatars? :o

Well, given the tacit approval let me just add this.

There's been a lot of debate (some of it serious! - go figure) about the RAW vs the RAI in this situation. Clearly this needs to be worked out and the only proper way to do that is to LARP the whole scenario enough times to get a good feel for the RAI and then modify the RAW as needed with a house rule.

Yep.

It has been flagged many times. I don't think I have seen any other thread so favorited.

Despite the risqué nature of this thread, there are many contributors to this thread with grapple rules, protective measures, and other rules items. The theme gets people to remember these rules, and use them in their own games. While I have not used the grapple rules much, I do remember them better than other rules I don't use because of this thread.

Now on to the serious stuff.

With a LARP in a suitable adult environment, and with suitable example materials to study*. I believe sufficient evidence could be gathered to generate a baseline for scientific study.

It didn't work and I think he should have just tried to impale on his ranseur instead.

And here is an example of why Sorcerers are better than Wizards. Telekinetic Charge is a 4th level spell, Unnatural Lust is a 2nd level spell. I would be surprised if a 7th level Sorceress couldn't match Charisma with a Succubus in an encounter. Why move towards the Succubus when you can make her come to you? And once you're grappling with her, that's when the Rogue sneak-attacks her in the back.

Ahhh but CrimsonVixen - who comes to whom first?

I think my dice know when I am GMing - they roll very poorly. When I am playing they just roll their normal "poorly". I think I used up all my luck when I met my Beloved Spouse. I think I shall have to test Aranna's theory and have my wife blow softly upon the dice.

I go back to GMing. When running the game, it's not uncommon for my NPCs to crit with 50% or more of their attack sequence. Of course this trend reverses itself immediately if the NPC is attempting to help the party. My dice roll high so consistently, that I have staunchly refused to use a GM screen, for fear of my players falsely believing that I was cheating. I have had several instances where my dice have been so hot that players have stolen them for weeks at a time, just in case it was the dice that were loaded. Needless to say, this never helped them much.

In the rare occasions where someone else is running the game, my dice tend to punish me for slacking off in my GMing fervor. I've debated recording my rolls for actual analysis, but I tend to average something akin to 7 on a d20, regardless of the dice used.

Are they, by chance, the ancient rounded edge D20's that roll forever? I still have mine and use them routinely. It is fun to watch them roll and roll and roll and roll and roll until they finally come to a stop, and then roll once more! LOL

Darn - I completely lost track of who wrote this - apologies:

[We established fairly early on in the thread that a grappled succubus can use her ability on the person performing the grapple. I suppose if you could pin her before she got a turn in, you could potentially stop her from getting an Energy Drain in. Hopefully you also avoid the Will save to avoid then tying up all of your friends and letting her loose to have her way with them.]

So to clarify: Would the scantily clad female Paladin using Smite Evil break the grapple or pin? Or would that just make the sin even worse?

Players need to be told "no" every once in a while when they come up with some hare-brained idea. Being immune from cannons and siege engines by using a tower shield is a special kind of lunacy! LOL

Player: It doesn't SAY ANYTHING about tower shield!

GM: My call, that is dumb - makes no sense. I rule it isn't possible. Now can we go on?

Player: Well, it doesn't! It should be allowed (evil grin).

GM: Nope, I have ruled - moving on!

PS I really like the rolled up newspaper - I have a player I will use that on! LOL

I ran a 7 year long campaign out of Thieves World with 15 players. Not to brag, but I had a friend tell a group he was addressing at a Convention that my "Sanctuary Campaign" was the best Role-Playing experience he had ever had. He played the campaign 25 years ago, BTW.

One can still find the campaign setting based upon Robert Lynn Aspirin's idea to showcase talented writers. Each writer got to create their own character within the framework of the city. The assembled short stories were presented in four volumes initially, with three(?) more to follow. Within the last couple of years there have been two additional novels. The city is called "Sanctuary" and it is the hind end of the Rankene Empire (Think medieval Rome), and goes through several rulers, although the original three books are my favorite.

The setting was so rich in flavor, setting, mayhem and outstanding NPC's that it was a natural extension to make it a campaign setting for an RPG. The original box set was by Chaosium in 1979 as I recall but Green Ronin did some 3.5 books which brought the setting to a new audience. I am sure they still have copies (I think it is OOP) but if not try Amazon, if your FLGS does not have them. The 3.5 would be easily adaptable to Pathfinder, or I suspect 5E (although I have never played 5E) I believe the Green Ronin books altered the basic 3.5 magic system to more closely match the TW setting, but you can decide what to add using their guidelines presented in the books.

Another suggestion is to fit the "social encounters" suggested above to the area of town. In the seedier parts of Korvosa, have a domestic fight in the street in front of them (Got a Paladin or LG's in the party?) Have someone throw a pot of nightsoil (urine and feces) out of the window, landing on a PC or three. Mention clothing hanging from lines strung across the street from window to window (ESP if you have a climb crazy rogue in the party!) How about an intoxicated person begging for hard earned coin? In better parts of town the Watch will be a lot more attrenive and visible. Or, how about a town crier announcing news of the city, and tidbits useful to the PC's? stREET VENDORS HAWKING THEIR WARES IN LOUD AND OBNOXIOUS WAYS. How about a traffic jam of wagons, carriages, and a dead mule? A boy stealing food and running away. A woman calling for her husband, or asking for directions. Make her charisma high enough and the male members of the party will start falling over themselves.

Have a PC step in horse, cow, human, or dog dung. Does Korvosa require you to check weapons at Watch Towers, or peace-bond them at the gate? Have a dirty mangy dog show up at the Inn door every morning begging for scraps. Is it a sad dog or a spy looking to shadow them to collect information. What about alley cats fighting in the dark recesses of a smelly, cobble stoned alley?

Buy, build, make urban buildings. They can be made cheaply from the cardboard from breakfast cereal boxes and spare bits of flotsam and jetsum. Urban area's are my favorite place to run campaigns and mess with PC's. They are an endless source of fun, confusion, merriment, sadness et al!

Advice above is excellent. I just want to wade in and tell you NOT to make the same mistake I did with my PFS Cleric. I took a low Charisma, not realizing I needed a 13 Charisma for Selective Channeling feat. Without it my chenneling will heal everyone, including the bad guys. Nothing I can do to change it, the character is past 2nd level so I am stuck.

Remember - charisma of 13 or better if you are going to be a healing cleric! Select Selective Channeling at first level.

One guy we game with has always rolled well, ever since we were in gradeschool. And now even using the internet (we play on roll20.net), computer random number generators still favor him, and not us. One other of us also seems cursed with 1s, whether rolling physical dice or typing "/roll"

The problem is our current DM is the good roller. We are halfway through a battle trying to avoid a TPK, and only have a week till next session to bring luck back to our dice!

You have to start reading KODT (See my previous post) it is a scream - and would answer your question. My personal favorite method is to put all my dice in a Mayonnaise jar, fill it with gasoline and place them on Funk and Wagnel's front porch with a book of matches atop the jar. That will scare the luck back into them! LOL

Seriously, I have seen two guys in my years playing various incarnations of FRPG get so upset they threw all their dice into a waste basket! The other guy was out rolled by his beautiful girlfriend playing Pathfinder for the first time. Needless to say the display was so childish she dropped him like a hot potato.

Since the authors are all old gamer's, their stories are based upon their experience and collected stories from across the world.

Here's the question-----What do you do, or your friends, to restore luck to dice, or the funniest story concerning folks behavior and their dice?

I'll sit there thinking about how I'm going to make this cool bard archer. When I finish up by writing down his spells, Gravity Bow isn't on the list.

Or when I go to make a Summoner and get level 2 spells. Well, I guess I can either take Haste or handicap myself, because I'm getting these spells later than a wizard but for some reason I have an odd ball 3rd level spell on it.

I wish that there were only 3 spell lists: Arcane, Divine and Nature, and everyone just pulled off of those.

If anything, Gravity Bow should be Arcane, because you are transmuting a random object, not Nature, because bows are used in the woods.

It would also be better if they didn't jack around with the level of spells between classes. You are basically picking spells for me when you do that.

This is easy. Gravity Bow is for Rangers because it supports their role as archer. It is not on Bard list because a Bard should be playing music to support party not wasting time throwing arrows.

I believe you a right, at least until the liege-lord becomes powerfull enough to have more troops than he can oversee himself.

At this point I would think he appoints a "captain" or 2 who again would appoint lieutenants and maybe sergeants...

This also let him manage his estate while troops are out pillaging, guard patrolling, etc...

See my earlier posting for my verbal regurgitation on army organization.

Ideally, nobles would have been appointed to commands based upon their ability. If one was a well known fighter and tactician, one would be appointed to a command in a Kings army. This makes sense to modern eyes. More often than not, however, social rank and obligation played a bigger role in medieval commands. Ability was not as important as noble rank. This left medieval armies in a world of hurt when their commander was a better courtier than a noble who was a proven fighter. No Comte (French Count) would be found dead serving under an extremely capable noble of lesser rank, for example. It just wasn't done! God ordained the social order and a King reigned by Divine Right! One did not mess around with the order ordained by God! This was generally true, not just a facet of French society.

I forgot about the Mongols. They had a very regular formation. I do not remember it perfectly off the top of my head, but everything was based upon tens. The smallest unit was 10 men riding together with their remuda (spare horses). Tens were grouped into 100's and then into 1000's. successively larger formations until the host swelled to 10,000 men called a "tumen". The commander was a Tumen Bashi. Tumen were organized into Hordes of up to 120,000 men. In addition they would have captured soldiers forced to serve as infantry, siege craft troops etc etc. The Mongols never wasted anything except their enemies lives. They would happily use civilians in front of their troops as human shields. Ambassadors were sent to a targeted city and they negotiated the cities surrender. Failure to agree to surrender was rewarded by becoming an example. The city would be assaulted, captured and every man put to death, the women and children enslaved. If the Mongol ambassadors were harmed in any way or killed, the city would be taken by storm and every living thing put to death. The Mongols then rolled up to the next city and sent ambassadors. Get the idea? Very effective.

Sovereign Court

In medieval setting armies were composed of feudal levies required by their liege as part of the social structure. The levies would be a prearranged number of men at arms, archers, crossbowmen, billmen, hookmen, and peasants. The number of knights, M@A, knights and footmen would be dependent upon the wealth of the demesne. For the sake of argument, say one mounted Knight, 4 Mounted Sergeants, 12 halberdiers in some semblance of armor (think Helm and quilted jacket, at most chain shirt), plus 12 archers and 20 peasants (the latter would do manual labor). Wealthier fiefs would be required to bring more men to war. Earlier levies would be spearmen with shields. The Men at Arms would ride unarmored horses but carry a spear or lance and be expected to fight in the heavy horse charge with their knights, or on scouting and foraging. They would have a sword, with mace and morning stars relegated to knights. Weapons are EXPENSIVE!
These levies would serve at the expense of the Lord, but the armor and weapons would have been paid for by the Knight. The troops were not paid, but their service was a part of their obligation to the Knight. The Knights service, in turn, was his obligation to his Lord. Lords were obligated to Kings etc etc--you get it. The levies served for a set period, allowing them to return to their farms and harvest crops. Troops could collect loot from battlefields when they won; so there was some incentive for the "little guys" to war. For knights, they dreamed of capturing, alive, an enemy knight or Lord; hoping for a large ransom.

The various levies would be assembled into groups called "Battles". There would normally be a right and left battle, and a center battle. There would be an advanced guard for march security. High ranking Knights would command the battle, with the highest ranking noble commanding the army. Many "national" variations - Scots, for example, fought in a unit called a schiltron composed of crossbowmen, fighters and spearmen. The latter carried 10-12 foot long spears for repelling heavy horse. Very effective if it stayed together.

Regiments and battalions were not invented until much later than the medieval period. Roman organization is too rigid for the medieval period.

In Dark Age campaigns think in terms of warbands. Vikings, contrary to popular belief were not wearing mail (chain) because of its high expense. Of course as the Jarl raided and gained loot the Vikings would acquire mail and the funds to purchase it. Vikings were all pretty equal, but would bring trusted slaves (Bondi) with them for archery and menial tasks. Vikings and their contemporaries fought in a shield wall and the breaking of their opponents shield wall meant a slaughter for the losers. Since Vikings were free and independent they brought with them whatever arms or armor they owned.

Well this turned out to be a long posting..............;)
