Erik pick his way through the caltrops as quickly as he. can to the edge of the hole, tossing his rapier to his left (buckler hand) and drawing a chakram as he goes.
Move action - 10' (30' of move /2 for back terrain and then -5' for caverns penalty).
Draw chakram as a free action as part of the move (bab >= 1)

If he can still see the fleeing mite, he throws the chakram at it;

If real trouble comes along, remember the gear ain't worth dying for... Keep one of the horses saddled in case you need to run."

Dual Minded: The mixed ancestry of some half-elves makes them resistant to mental attacks. Half-elves with this racial trait gain a +2 bonus on all Will saving throws. This racial trait replaces the adaptability racial trait.
Elf Blood: Half-elves count as both elves and humans for any effect related to race.
Elven Immunities: Half-elves are immune to magic sleep effects and get a +2 racial bonus on saving throws against enchantment spells and effects.
Keen Senses: Half-elves receive a +2 racial bonus on Perception checks.
Blended View: Prerequisite: low-light vision. Half-drow whose non-drow parent had low-light vision might be blessed with a legacy of versatile senses. Characters with this trait keep their low-light vision but also gain darkvision to a distance of 60 feet. Half-elves can take this trait in place of multitalented.
Languages: Half-elves begin play speaking Common and Elven. Half-elves with high Intelligence scores can choose any languages they want (except secret languages, such as Druidic).

Class Abilities:

Weapon and Armor Proficiency: A slayer is proficient with all simple and martial weapons, as well as with light armor, medium armor, and shields (except tower shields).

Studied Target (Ex): A slayer can study an opponent he can see as a move action. The slayer then gains a +1 bonus on Bluff, Knowledge, Perception, Sense Motive, and Survival checks attempted against that opponent, and a +1 bonus on weapon attack and damage rolls against it. The DCs of slayer class abilities against that opponent increase by 1. A slayer can only maintain these bonuses against one opponent at a time; these bonuses remain in effect until either the opponent is dead or the slayer studies a new target.
If a slayer deals sneak attack damage to a target, he can study that target as an immediate action, allowing him to apply his studied target bonuses against that target (including to the normal weapon damage roll).
At 5th, 10th, 15th, and 20th levels, the bonuses on weapon attack, damage rolls, and skill checks and to slayer DCs against a studied target increase by 1. In addition, at each such interval, the slayer is able to maintain these bonuses against an additional studied target at the same time. The slayer may discard this connection to a studied target as a free action, allowing him to study another target in its place.
At 7th level, a slayer can study an opponent as a move or swift action.

Accuracy (Ex): At 1st level, a sniper halves all range increment penalties when making ranged attacks with a bow, crossbow, or firearm. This ability replaces track.

Sneak Attack: If a rogue can catch an opponent when he is unable to defend himself effectively from her attack, she can strike a vital spot for extra damage.
The rogue’s attack deals extra damage anytime her target would be denied a Dexterity bonus to AC (whether the target actually has a Dexterity bonus or not), or when the rogue flanks her target. This extra damage is 1d6 at 1st level, and increases by 1d6 every 2 rogue levels thereafter. Ranged attacks can count as sneak attacks only if the target is within 30 feet. This additional damage is precision damage and is not multiplied on a critical hit.
With a weapon that deals nonlethal damage (such as a sap, unarmed strike, or whip), a rogue can make a sneak attack that deals nonlethal damage instead of lethal damage. She cannot use a weapon that deals lethal damage to deal nonlethal damage in a sneak attack—not even with the usual –4 penalty.
The rogue must be able to see the target well enough to pick out a vital spot and must be able to reach such a spot. A rogue cannot sneak attack while striking a creature with total concealment.

Trapfinding: A rogue adds 1/2 her level on Perception checks to locate traps and on Disable Device checks (minimum +1). A rogue can use Disable Device to disarm magic traps.

Skilled Liar (Ex): Whenever a guerrilla uses Bluff to attempt to deceive someone, she gains a bonus on the opposed roll equal to 1/2 her rogue level (minimum +1). A guerrilla can still use Disable Device to disarm magic traps.
This ability replaces trapfinding.

Finesse Training (Ex): At 1st level, a rogue gains Weapon Finesse as a bonus feat. In addition, starting at 3rd level, she can select any one type of weapon that can be used with Weapon Finesse (such as rapiers or daggers). Once this choice is made, it cannot be changed. Whenever she makes a successful melee attack with the selected weapon, she adds her Dexterity modifier instead of her Strength modifier to the damage roll. If any effect would prevent the rogue from adding her Strength modifier to the damage roll, she does not add her Dexterity modifier. The rogue can select a second weapon at 11th level and a third at 19th level.

Erik looks around, hefts his coil of rope and says "If we ain't got more rope than this, I don't think we got enough line to do that fishing job... Still, that chest looks to have been down there a long time, I figure it can wait until we get some more rope from Oleg."

I'm thinking we'll need about 50' of rope for a line from the wagon down to the chest. Then we want two lines for two people to go swimming (likely me and Rhiann), and a third line to tie around the chest while they are down there. Then the people on the shore help haul the swimmers back out, and all 5 of us (including Roderick) can pull the chest out...

Also, razzum frazzum young whippersnappers who don't know the value of 50' of rope! It's a lifesaver! And I'll bet we don't have a 10' pole in the party either!

Ok, real world (not looking under the spoiler), don't try to "scare off" a grizzly bear unless you've got a proper rifle and are willing to use it. Grizzlies are not scared of anything in the North America wilderness; you can expect a counter charge... Erik does not know this though.
What are our votes? Attack, wait it out, or try to scare it away? I say shoot it up...

Assuming I can get LOS, I am setting up 110 ft (1 range increment) from the bear. If I can get some sort of rough terrain between me and it (that will block a charge lane - eg. a bushy patch that I can shoot overtop), I will. We should be able to get at least 2 volleys of missiles in before it closes (surprise round and 1 round closing before it can charge).

Erik doesn't know enough about the wilderness to identify the creature (no K Nature), but he concentrates on studying it's movement patterns (activates Studied Combatant) as he puts an arrow on the string and partially draws his bow...

I assume that I can't get a snap shot off at the humanoid with a thrown weapon... To second the Q about knowledge checks: what check for the humanoid, and what check from the very large roaring critter?

Erik pulls a chakram, but is not quick enough to get a throw off at the twisted humanoid as it disappears into the dark; he is not fool enough to pursue...

Erik's head is on a swivel as he tries to watch all directions at once. As he twitches, he spouts rapid fire questions: "What the hell was that? Wolves don't turn into smoke when they die! What the hell is the giant roaring beast? I suppose at least it's going away now..."
