Eldeth claps Odak on the shoulder and assures him "If we ever get to Gauntlgrym, you'll never forget it. That is my promise as a dwarf."

The evening grows late, as shown by your fatigue since there is no sun to guide you. Eventually, you all head to bed.

Long rest.

Eldeth smiles as she remembers her home. "I hail from the Kingdom of Gauntlgrym in the North. King Bruenor Battlehammer seized it back from the Drow some years ago. The vaults and the great forge there... are... breathtaking." She leans back in reverie.

Irdril sings a lovely song of her past life on the surface. The dwarf shield maiden nods to the music and sips her ale then walks over to Odak and Zoltan. "So, where do you two hail from?" she asks.

Two votes to look and two votes to leave. Let's get a tie-breaker.

The dwarf shield-maiden shrugs. "I'll stick with you whatever the case. Good idea or bad."

The dwarven shield maiden is less enthused. "You mean we're going to a city of mushrooms?" She looks disgusted.

Kanzen strikes twice at the creature as he moves into range.

Attacks at +5: 2d20 ⇒ (15, 12) = 27
Dam: 1d6 + 3 + 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 + (2) + 3 = 9

The group's weapons don't seem to damage the elemental creature very effectively but Galinndan rips massive tears in its body while the rest pile on. Finally, the water holding it together falls in a splash back into the pool.

I'll assume you guys succeed in getting Galinndan out as he's right on the edge. 117 xp each.

When you return to Eldeth and Droki, you see that she is holding tightly onto the derro. "Little runt tried to break away and kept laughing insanely the whole time." She spits to the side in disgust. "Should we keep going, try to take a break, or head topside for a real rest?"

Eldeth attaches the badge to her armor and mutters. "Well I don't like working with Duergar to much but Derro are worse, no question."

The shield maiden snorts. "More like to recover treasures stolen by cave dwarf raiders!" Her outburst draws looks from many of the duergar in the tavern. Some begin pushing back their stools until Werz waves them off.

The dwarf maiden sits uneasily on the boat, a look of distaste on her face. "Never was much for swimming..."

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Eldeth walks quietly alongside Galenus. "I can't quite figger ya out. Are ya a warrior or a mediocre wizard? Either way, I can respect the way ya swing that axe."

Eldeth's npc card:

1/minute: Her time in the Underdatk has made the Dwarf maiden wary of strangers. Make an insight check with advantage.
1/day: Eldeth interposed her shield to bear the worst of the attack. Gain resistance to bludgeoning, piercingz and slashing damage for a single attack.
Inspiration: The loyalty of a Dwarf never fails. Eldeth will take one attack for you, potentially with severe consequences for her. (If the attack deals more than 15 damage but less than 30, Eldeth is unconscious. If it deals 30 or more damage, Eldeth dies.

As you pass out of the cavern, Eldeth confides "I don't like deception to send these goblins to do our dirty work but the choice not to fight Ilvara was a wise one. I've seen her kill and entire gang of raiders in seconds with a swarm of horrible wasps. It was... Gruesome..."

DC 15 Arcana:

You recognize the description of this spell as insect plague and you are familiar with how the spell works.

Drow pursuit level decreased by 1! 90 xp each! 10 bonus to Tiberius, Galinndan, Galenus, Cyrus, and Kanzen. 20 for Irdril. Everyone is now level 2.

As you move along quickly, you become thankful for your food reserves. Signs of edible life are becoming scarcer as you get farther from the river. And foraging for food would make your fast pace incredibly difficult.

Galinndan finds a sturdy piece of zurkwhood that might serve to make something.

Craft (int I think) check with carpenter's tools. Improvised tools impose disadvantage.

Eldeth nods. "Aye. I would like to see it too. But those accursed slavers turned me around so badly when they dragged me down here I don't know as I could find me way back."

Eldeth smiles at Galenus' question and takes on a far-off look. "Aye it was found alright. That wasn't the hard part, though. The hard part was driving out the dirty sneaks of House Xorlarrin out o' the place. But Bruenor led us well."

She looks at Galinndan and nods warmly. "Aye ye'd be welcome on my guarantee. Even the dark one would be let in. Bruenor Battlehammer learned well not to judge an elf by his skin."

Feel free to make some checks (e.g. survival, nature, etc) here as you look around. Describe what you do and what tools at hand you use to do it.

Poking around at the various mushrooms and sniffing them, Irdil notes a rare mushroom that invigorates someone who ingests it and helps them keep going despite difficulty, if ingested within one day of when it was picked.

Irdril's mushroom is equivalent to a potion of healing with an expiration date.

You're right about only double food. Where do you see 1d6+Wis for the amount found? From what I've seen, the GM just chooses. Curious.

Cyrus also succeeds in obtaining food and water.

Food: 1d4 ⇒ 3x2
Water: 1d4 ⇒ 2

Eldeth nods in agreent at Cyrus' words. "This be a strange place, alright... I can't wait to get back to Gauntlgrym where ye might be underground, shoor, but not so deep and things make sense."

As she speaks, you round a turn and come to a large cavern lit by glowing fungi of various colors and tall mushrooms made of some hard, wood-like material.

The dwarf shield maiden shakes her head as she follows along in the back. She speaks to those in the rear. "Strange doings here. I always knew the Underdark were a strange and dangerous place... but this..."

Those who have already rolled for food/shelter can search and roll again after the next encounter (of any kind, including terrain encounters). This represents the time between encounters.

The dwarven maiden nods at Tiberius.

A good idea, that. We should supply ourselves.

Eldeth walks off a ways, looking around for food and water, as well as some luminescent fungi to meet Tiberius' request.

Survival: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17

She comes back with a fungus that looks something like a barrel in one hand and a small glowing fungus in the other. She sets down the barrel fungus.

This will give us enough food and water for today.

She then hands the small glowing fungus to Tiberius. She then looks around at those gathered around.

What now?

It sheds dim light in a 5-foot radius for today only. What are we doing now?

Galenus, the Drow put new shackles on you while you were unconscious so your most recent successful strength check was to escape your own bonds. This past one was not successful. All of the NPCs besides Topsy are still shackled so yes, absolutely on helping Eldeth.

Irdril, since you've been asking for help with your shackles, I think it's safe to assume someone tried to help your dex check, granting you advantage.

Irdril Advantage: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10Bummer.

The dwarf maiden crawls out of the strange little burrow and stretches. Gor but wasn't that a cramped, smelly little hole. Let's get these blasted manacles off! I could use some food and drink too, while we're at it.

I have one vote to move along and some implicit votes to work on stuff here before moving. Some things can be done while moving with more or less success.

Eddrikk:

Under her breath, Eldeth responds
That's Jorlan. 'e was Ilvara's favorite until he had a run-in wit the wrong end o' a black puddin'. She thinks to herself for a minute. Guess there isn't a right end. She chuckles.

No perception check required for that.

You find a long, wiry bristle that may or may not prove useful.

Eldeth shrugs and replies to Eddrikk.

Dwarvish:

That's a bit of a mystery to me. I've never gone near the big fella. Scares me.

Eldeth chuckles at Eddrikk.

Aye, ye could say that.

She nods at talk of turning the Drow against each other.

That sounds mighty good to me. I don't tink we could deal wit' 'em even if we had all our weapons and armor.

The dwarf maiden rolls her eyes at the deep gnome.

You ever earned a gem in your entire life? I mean dug it outta the ground wit' yer own hands? Now that's a treasure. She turns to the more serious conversationalists. Jorlan used to be Ilvara's favorite. Now it's Shoor.

Eddrikk succeeds in taking a short rest.

Eldeth nods.

'e be Ilvara's right hand man, in a couple o' ways. Young punk just got promoted and wants to make sure everybody knows it.

The female Dwarf responds to Galenus' offered hand with a grunt and shrug. She lets him help her to her feet but he feels the strength of her grip.

Aye. Thank ye. Them dang elves be workin' us somethin' 'orrible. Especially that Shoor. He's trying to prove 'e's fit for 'is new position.

She laughs humorlessly.

I'm Eldeth. What are ye names?
