So as written the feats Sunlight summons and Moonlight summons have your summoned creatures give off light as per the spell.

Moonlight Summons
Benefit: Creatures you summon shed light as a light spell. They are immune to confusion and sleep effects, and their natural weapons are treated as silver for the purposes of overcoming damage reduction.

Sunlight Summons
Benefit: Creatures that you summon shed light as a light spell. They are immune to blinding or dazzling effects, and their natural weapons are treated as magical for overcoming damage reduction.

Does this particular effect count as a 0th level spell of light being added on to the summoned creature?

Or does the light in fact count as the same level of the spell as the summoned creature spell? For instance a Summon Monster 4 spell would count as a 4th level light spell.

Specifically, I ask this for how it affects magical darkness, which states

" Nonmagical sources of light, such as torches and lanterns, do not increase the light level in an area of darkness. Magical light sources only increase the light level in an area if they are of a higher spell level than darkness."

Hi James,

Does this particular effect count as a 0-th level spell of light being added on to the summoned creature?

Specifically this is on how it effects magical darkness.

Well I'm glad I could be part of that experience for you. This was also my first game that I've actually run on Paizo. It's been a blast, but I think I'm going to need to just take a passenger seat as a player for a week or two before I feel up to running another one.

Epilogue 1:

United Free Network Media: June 21st.

Missing ship thought lost returns! Returning crew numbers only 62 of 240! Investigation underway!

In a strange turn of events earlier today, the missing military vessel known as the Javelin returned to United Earth air space. Along with it, a smaller unnamed space craft returned as well. The Javelin was thought to have been lost after all long range communications with it were suddenly cut off and any attempts since then had been unsuccessful in the 3 months since it's initial departure as a search and rescue operation.

Although sources are as yet unclear as to what exactly occurred on the voyage, several facts are clear dear readers; whatever happened on that ship, was deadly for many involved.

As family members, friends of the crew, and members of the press flocked to the docking bay and began demanding to know what happened, they were held off by official members of military. Pending investigation.

5 as of yet unidentified crew members were led off the two ships and out of the docking bay by official personnel. Later, 57 additional personnel were brought off the the Javelin and placed into immediate psychiatric wards. When the Javelin first set off it was reported to have had a full compliment of 180 normal crew, supplemented by 60 additional personnel. Where those other 178 souls are remains a mystery.

As of this time, there are confirmed reports of several of the initial investigation team members sent aboard the ship were seen exiting the ship in a hurry, refusing to go back aboard. One was seeing throwing up upon exiting.

Aside from the Desert Eagle he took, Xander found 3 spare clips for it on the Doctors body. Each clip held 8 shots and they were all loaded. He checked the body but couldn't detect any obvious signs of life but then again the body was so alien now, that he would have been hard pressed in the first place. He then began work on the door to help seal it down.

Clara went over to see if she could assist Nexus into waking. He seemed to not be suffering obviously but she tended to him anyway just to be safe. Heal: 1d20 + 4 + 1d6 ⇒ (15) + 4 + (3) = 22 She was fairly confident she had managed to get him stabilized and kept his internal bleeding stopped, but he would need several days of bed rest just to be sure..

Marco headed for the helm control panel and began initiating the sequence for activating the main engine. It appeared it was on lock down from here but he had gotten them operational directly so he was soon able to get them unlocked and able to be directly controlled again.

...

Not long after, with Marco at the helm of the ship they were able to escape the gravitational pull of the planet and escape the ship graveyard that had surrounded it.

Several hours later, they were able to breathe a little easier as they were far away from the planet and on one of the radar monitors they picked up the scout ship that Calista had escaped in. Contact was made and it was determined that all of them had indeed been on the ship at some point or another.

It wasn't easy at first, as Marco as the only one with any piloting experience had to man the ship for a majority of the trip alone, the others picking up tidbits of information along the way. After the first stress filled day had passed, it was determined that no one had had any strange nightmares that had been mentioned in a vast array of log reports that could be found all over the ship.

It was discovered through the use of the security sub-stations that the strange creature, as well as the awful pile of bodies which had made up its lair, that Xander and Nexus had both sworn they had seen before making it to the helm, was nowhere to be found on the ship. Despite having nowhere to go.

Clara had eventually recalled that a great number of individuals had been freed from their cryo sleep where she had been located. Every single one of the 14 surviving crew members on the first level, who hadn't been completely beaten to death seemingly by the others, seemed to have suffered some sort of severe psychological meltdown and were little more than barely alive and had to be put back into cryo sleep just to keep them alive.

Supplies were garnered over the days and with the help of some bed rest Nexus was quickly nursed back to health. Making use of the shipboard A.I. on the scout ship Calista was on, they were able to make their way back to Earth. Where the survivors planned on how to report what they had encountered and what was to occur with them next...

Congratulations everyone! You have all survived my game. There were many close calls for everyone and you all did it within one game day! Normally this would be where I would tell you to level up, goodness knows you all deserve it, but for now this is all I had planned.
I know I definitely strayed from my initial promises on how I was planning to run the game but all in all, I thought it was a success. Sorry to anyone who felt like it turned out a little too much like a dungeon crawl adventure. I hope you enjoyed playing Call of the Abyss.

Also be sure to check in again for an Epilogue after mission report.

And thats it... you took him down.

Clara's shot came in and hit the doctor in the leg making him stagger for a moment. Xander took the moment and fired both his guns in unison. They both found their mark.
"Gaaaaaahhhhhh." With a horrifying scream of denial the Doctor fell to the floor. Strangely no nlood flowed out of his body.

There was a brief moment where everyone who was still awake felt a sensation like an oppressive weight was being lifted off of them. Nexus seemed to breathe easier a few momemts later but he was still unconscious.

What are you doing now?

The Doctor recoiled and twisted as he was shot and torched again. He let out a frustrated and somewhat labored grunt of frustration. "Perhaps you have the right idea. A more conventional manner of dealing with you is required." With a forced step backwards he moved away from Marco and pulled out what Xander recognized as a .50 caliber Desert Eagle auto loader. He pointed the gun at Marco oulled the trigger.

Deadly aim Attack: 1d20 + 11 - 2 ⇒ (5) + 11 - 2 = 14
deadly aim damage: 2d8 + 4 ⇒ (1, 2) + 4 = 7

Calista leaving when she did has effectively earned you one of the "better" endings for my game. We'll see what happens with the rest of you.

Let's assume that was your attack roll Maco, since you didn't get hit.

Okay, finally got it up.

Everyone else's actions. Apparently the boards are rooting for you guys when they're cooperative.

I'm thinking if it continues to be such a problem for Gameplay thread to work, I may just switch it over to here in the Discussion thread.

The shots of guns rang out again and again.

Xander fired twice as Nexus fell to the ground. One shot the doctor seemed to dodge out of the way of, the other landed squarely in his shoulder. Throwing him to the side, but he kept his feet.

Both Clara's shots missed their target and Marco's swing with the torch was just a little too slow for him to get a solid hit on the doctor, now that he was free.

The Doctor smiled and reached into his lab coat, drawing out another syringe as he stabbed at Marco.

Syringe: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (1) + 11 = 12 Fumble again!!

Damage + Dc.15 Fort save: 1d2 ⇒ 1

Fumble confirmation: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (14) + 11 = 25

Well now Paizo just straight up doesn't seem to want me to post in the game play thread. It lets me go everywhere else though.

Ooh that's unfortunate, but hey, revolvers don't jam.

Unused to the sudden explosion of sound coming directly from her hands, the shot went wild as Clara jumped and the revolver clattered to the ground out of her hands.

Well it's not exactly like the ship was armed with tactical nukes or anything... but this might have done something for you.

1d100 ⇒ 37

With the help of the on board A.I. Calista was able to maneuver the ship around to provide a solid firing solution to where she thought she had the best chance to interfere with whatever was happening on the planet.

But without waiting to see if anything would happen, she spun the ship around and applied the thrusters to maximum.

Sorry guys but I think we might have to wait for Clara to get on in the morning tomorrow before we can continue.

Yes, everyone is when they are dying and not yet stabilized. It's a Dc. 10 Con check to stabilize, but you take a -1 modifier for every point you are below 0. So right now it would be a D20-1 for you.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Well I will say this Nexus. You forced the Doctor to use his trump card on you. He doesn't have any more big whammies like that.

Nexus fell and the Doctor shifted his grin toward the rest of the group. Now he was free again.

Meanwhile...

The gruff male voice started up again as Calista sat in the pilot seat and activated the console screen. Whoever had been here before had clearly readied the ship for combat against something... but she suspected the planet's inhabitants never let them get much further. "Weapon systems engaged... thrusters initiating... Target locked."

The woman reached for him and then inside of him. Nexus's heart stopped.

The void inside the Doctor's mouth seemed to grow, everywhere all along the ship, and then he looked at the planet and he realized with a start that's what it was. The planet... the planet was the true devourer of everything, the doctor was just a focus point, a conduit.

He let go with one hand and smashed himself in the chest.

3d6 ⇒ (4, 5, 5) = 14

Ooh, sorry Nexus. Looks like that's going to knock you down to -1. So you aren't dead but you're no longer a factor in the fight either.

Hey now, The Hunchback of Notre Dame was amazing too.

Oh boy, Nexus. You get to make a will save and a fort Save if you fail that save. Your Disillusioned trait gives you bonuses on both of these.

No, actually. Your last one did not hit. The Doc, even grappled, was just a little too dodgy for your last hit.
Although this one does. Well done, Nexus, you don't lose your grip on the guy.

The doctor stopped struggling in Nexus's arms. He turned his head... all the way around to "look" at him. A way too wide smile on his face.

"Oh, you'll see..."

The doctors mouth then opened in front of Nexus, unhinging into a maw of darkness from which inside the woman he had killed begins reaching out at him.

Clara stepped in and swung at the Doctor, he put up an arm just in time to block the cut before she could get any real momentum going with it and it barely seemed to do anything him.

Marco turned to Xander telling him to exchange weapons with Clara and readied to toss the revolver to him.

Xander took aim but just as he squeezed the triggers, Nexus rushed in, singing a low dirge to himself as he flying tackled the Doctor and managing to grab a hold of him. The maneuver cost Xander a shot off the Pathfinder, but allowed him to strike home with a superb shot to the doctors upper chest.

The doctor seemed to have been momentarily stunned by the shot as he struggled vainly in Nexus's arms. (Cookie)

Next round of party's actions. Nexus don't forget your +5 if you decide to maintain that grapple check.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

... I won't stop you, and you do have a cookie.

... Well that was a clever move Nexus. Everyone else give me another round of actions and then Nexus will apparently rush forward and grab a hold of the Doctor.

Xander narrowly dodged the first blast of flame, but he couldn't get out of the way of the second. The black flames hit him, igniting painful memories of the times he had been burned over the years. All of the times he had ever had curiously touched a burning stove, or open flames, or even sunburns from being outside for too long... it was all so overwhelming and...

Wait a minute... did he just conjure fire in his hands?! That's not physically possible!

Xander snapped himself out of his burning memories. Suddenly the pain dulled down to a dull roar. You only take 3 points of damage.

Yes he had shot something at Xander, but it was the stuff of nightmares. It wasn't real... or at least not entirely.

Alright then... here we go!

Hmm... I guess I usually did tell you what they were good for before hand, didn't I?

Well I guess since it was the last one, it should have the most beneficial outcome. An auto-save/Attack hit. But I'm guessing you're going to use it for the first one.

Well I should remind you, you do have at least 1 cookie saved up.

Well a high Dex bonus saves you some potential damage, Xander. Also go ahead and make a Dc. 18 Will save.

"Tch... Disappointing. I think I've let you interfere quite enough now. It's time to put an end to this." He let the syringe fall to the ground and stepped back away from Clara.

She could see coils of dark flame start to coalesce around both of his hands.

2d4 ⇒ (2, 2) = 4

"You first I think, gun man."

Shadow Scorching Ray 1: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (2) + 11 = 13

Shadow Scorching Ray 2: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (8) + 11 = 19

Miss chance: 1d100 ⇒ 43

Clara swiped wildly at the figure but he swiftly dodged back and away from her.

Nexus stabbed out at the creature as it came at Xander, but he hadn't expected it to leap at him so his attack only cut through chemical.

There was a resounding boom as Marco fired at the Impersonating creature he'd narrowly escaped from before, but the shot was panicked and it swiftly dodged to the side.

Xander used the momentary distraction caused by Marco to roll away from the creature to a relatively clear position and turned to fire his own shot. The creature recoiled in pain as a hole was made in it's lower abdomen but it did not fall over. It raised both talons, looking at both Marco and Xander. Seemingly trying to decide which one it wanted to cut down next. It never noticed Nexus sneak up behind it...

Nexus hit the switch to activate the blow torch and dug it right into the shot Xander had made in it seconds before, the creature arched back in pain and Nexus allowed the creatures own momentum to carry the torch up its back towards the head shot that Marco had made when he had first run into the Impersonator... it screeched a horrible death wail and fell on its back. Twitching.

Calista:
Calista used her jet pack to maneuver herself through the debris field toward the scout ship. It took a little while to figure out how to get just the right momentum in full space but she soon got her bearings and was able to get her way on to the ship.

It was a little surprising to see the side door opened and it looked as though most of the rooms contents in the middle area had been sucked out. The ship itself was tiny when compared to the Javelin, it seemed capable of holding only a crew of 8. Upon entering the main room and shutting the door closed behind her she heard a distinctly gruff male voice utter.

Lock down confirmed. Initiating gravity seal.

There was a distinct vibration inside the ship as oxygen and artificial gravity refilled the room.

The rooms were very spartan as for their attire. In the cockpit the pilots control console was blinking with flashing green lights.

1d4 ⇒ 4

"Gaah, chaa so you spotted me! Oh well, time to end this!"

The small figure lunged forward at Clara till he was right next to her. She saw his figure through the fog of the fire extinguisher. The man had no eyes, and he stabbed down at her neck, syringe in hand...

Syringe: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (1) + 11 = 12 Fumble!

Damage+ Dc. 15 Fort save: 1d2 + 2d6 ⇒ (2) + (4, 1) = 7

1d100 ⇒ 27

Clara's instinctual response was a panicked swipe upward knocking the syringe to the side,

Fumble confirmation: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (15) + 11 = 26

but the figure managed to hold on to the syringe.

Clara, your action then we're back to the top with everyone else's actions.

You are correct Nexus. The misshapen figure off to the right is 15 feet away.

Before Nexus could fully move into position, the creature raised its scythe like mandible arms and rushed past Nexus. Lunging at Xander.

Attack of opportunity Nexus.

Talon scythe: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (16) + 10 = 26
slice: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8

Miss chance: 1d100 ⇒ 57

Well okay then, no one is caught flat footed.

1d4 ⇒ 2

A moment after Nexus spoke, he was proven wrong as the chemical from the fire hydrant drifted out an over the form of a strange misshapen creature hidden off to their right, somehow hidden in the planets strange coloration, and then a smaller figure almost imperceptible because of how still it was being off to their left.

Then they were moving.

Xander and then Nexus. Give me your actions. You can both see the silhouettes of the creatures flanking you and they have not acted yet. They do have concealment, 20% miss chance however.

Hmm, strange... I thought I mentioned for everyone to maximize their hit points. Which would start you at 24 hp because Rogues have a D8 hit dice, and that's before Toughness and Favored class.

Hmm, surprising and creative use of the fire extinguisher Marco.

Everyone, go ahead and give me a re-roll on your perception. Also the enemies have -10 to their previous rolls.

Well Nexus, while you didn't get any healing, you do have the toughness feat which will actually give you 3 additional hit points. Also, I don't know if you remembered about your Favored class bonus, but you could have chosen 3 more hp or skill points.

Also, the damage on the blow torch was 2d6 fire damage.

2,000 posts for me, whoo!

The door to the helm finally slid open. Inside the room the first thing everyone noticed was the view of the Planet on the starboard side of the ship. Xander had already seen it once before, but to everyone else it held a strange semblance of menace.

The rest of the room was covered in blood stains.

"It's impressive, isn't it?" you all hear a voice echoing from somewhere inside the room. The door slid closed behind them.

I. Stealth: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (12) + 13 = 25

Dr. Stealth: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (10) + 20 = 30

I. initiative: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19

Dr. initiative: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14

"The Abyss. Can you feel it's hunger reaching deep into the stars... calling to you?"

Perception and Initiative Rolls everybody.

Well done Xander. You have gained yourself another and the last cookie.

That's it folks! The final round of trivia is over. Congratulations Xander. May it serve you well.

Here we go folks, the climax begins noooooooww!

Clara fixed up Marco as well. 1d20 + 4 + 2 + 1d6 ⇒ (18) + 4 + 2 + (2) = 26

Okay so, Xander and Marco both got healed up and Nexus, unfortunately did not.

Xander Perception Roll: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9

Marco Perception Roll: 1d20 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 7 + 1 = 25

Clara Perception Roll: 1d20 + 6 + 1d6 ⇒ (2) + 6 + (5) = 13

Nexus Perception Roll: 1d20 + 9 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 9 + 1 = 23

A moment later, Nexus and Marco both heard the door to the east open. Both could hear the sound of the creature that Nexus and Xander had run away from, but Marco could also hear to sounds of something else... Mist?

Alright everyone, it's the final chance for gaining yourself a gimme. You all know the rules, now here we go!

Before exiting the ship, Calista examined several sheets of paper that had a great number of names written on it. What are the actual names of two prominent actors noted within?

Marco had gone back to fixing the panel. Just as Clara turned to ask him, he looked up from his work and said Stiffly... "Got it." A moment later the screen popped back on with a

"Open door?"

Yes.<-- --> No.

He turned from the screen.

He shook his head distractedly and said, "Hmm, oh sorry. Got distracted. Yeah if you could."

Unable to help with the repairs of the control panel, Nexus carefully examines their surroundings.

The hallway itself is not very well lit. The only exits appear to be the one's heading to the helm itself, the elevator, and the way Nexus and Xander came from.

The only obvious sign of people coming through are the remainder of blood streaks from Xander and Nexus running through the coagulated blood pools.

There is no sign of fighting or anyone getting killed in the hallway, and the only sign that anything was amiss before hand was the obvious destruction of the control panel.

Okay folks. This is perhaps your last free chance to do things like get healed up. Marco will have the door opened up in another 20 minutes or there about.
Normally it says using a Healers kit to treat deadly wounds would take about an hour of time, but I'm knocking it down to about 10 minutes given the advances in medicine.

Aw geez, you're totally right Xander. I got confused with Frightened and Panicked. I just thought Panicked meant you couldn't use special abilities and dropped the gear you were holding at the time. Sorry, I just kind of kept of posting and then had to deal with some stuff.

Xander ignored the other two despite their calming words and kept moving past Marco and Clara, heading for the door. But as he got there his worst fears were realized. The door console was still damaged and wouldn't respond. He jogged the remaining 10 feet of the hallway into the corner and began to cower. You'll only cower for a round though, so don't worry.

A moment later, Nexus also came running around the corner, but he came back to himself after seeing two other people standing at the door and Xander moving into the corner and slumping down.

Calista took her time examining her surroundings. There was a surprising amount of ships that seemed to have been of older make and even a few newer models.

One ship in particular caught her eye, it was fairly distant but appeared to be more recent. It was a much smaller fighter class, a scout ship maybe? Probably not meant to hold more than 10 to 15 people. It still obviously had power.

Searching around her own ship, she found the name of the ship painted onto the side; Javelin

There was also 3 areas where various debris and other parts of ships had punctured in.

One in the 3rd deck, one near the 4th deck, and one more near the top of the ship on the 1st deck.

You can head to the ships helm if you like as well.

Marco waited for a little while, hoping for some kind of response on the radio. Nothing came immediately, he wasn't exactly sure whether to be worried or not.

Putting it out of his mind he went back to working on the panel when both he and Clara heard the thundering sounds of running footsteps charging through the hallway.

Both readied themselves for the coming attack and then they saw a man, bolting through the hallway at near panic speeds. Behind him they heard someone else running through the hallway.
