![]() Yes, you heard right. AAW Games / AdventureAWeek.com has just launched a Kickstarter for a Pathfinder adventure steeped in Norse mythology. Here are the details and the LINK! INTO THE WINTRY GALE is a Pathfinder RPG Adventure for 4-6 Level 10 Characters Written by Justin Andrew Mason, staff writer for the ENnie Award winning Adventureaweek.com Blog. Having authored over a hundred articles and a dozen adventures for the AAW Blog, Justin Andrew Mason is now tackling a super-sized adventure module inspired by the viking sagas and ancient Norse mythology. The arrival of the celestial event known as the Ohjaslange heralds the return of the dreaded Jǫtunn (ice giants) to the lands of Vikmordere. The valley is engulfed by an unnatural blizzard and unending frigid gale of the likes which none living have ever seen. A dark and evil curse has reawakened, after dormant centuries, to cloak the sun and bury the land beneath frost and snow. Directed by ancient Vikmordere legend, warriors and shieldmaidens from the many clans have gathered in the village of Völsfiheimr on the shores of Serpent Lake to prepare for the upcoming battle. At stake is the very future of their people. As a horde of undying skeletal ice giants begin a long march down from a ruined mountaintop fortress, Vikmordere warriors in the valley resolve their mettle by singing lore of heroic bravery and ancient battles. Wintery war is looming, and many echo the charge of ancient omens -- the time has come to seek out the lost artifacts of the legendary Jarl Vornig – for it was he who last quelled the ice giant uprising, felling the great ice giant king whilst wielding a divine sword and magic aegis. If these powerful artifacts cannot be rediscovered, and the power therein harnessed, the Vikmordere warriors stand little chance against the onslaught of the evil Jǫtunn. Despite the gathering of great warriors, the Ancestor Spirit seems to have other plans to secure the safety of the Vikmordere people... A group of outsiders has arrived at the Great Hall of Völsfing upon the eve of battle. The strangers have been guided through the blinding blizzard by a mysterious fire-wreathed ember owl, and are unwittingly about to become epic heroes in a new saga. The Vikmordere are wary of their new guests, yet submit to the will of their ancestors and acknowledge the omen of adventurer's arrival. The barbarian clans place their hopes into the hands of these enigmatic visitors who must now prepare to venture out into the wintery gale in search of the ancient Jarl's artifacts. ![]()

![]() The Snow White Kickstarter launches tomorrow 7-9-2014! *TOP 10 RPG PRODUCT OF 2013 *COMPATIBLE WITH PATHFINDER RPG AND D&D 3.5 *SOLID 5-STAR REVIEWS BY TOP REVIEWERS & PUBLISHERS *A UNIQUE LIMITED EDITION TOME DESTINED FOR YOUR COLLECTION As a source of both fascination of what is "beautiful and good" as well as events viewed as "grim and forbidding", fairy tales have fascinated both the old and young over the centuries. Whether a cautionary tale about avoiding wrong-doing, the triumph of right over wrong, the worth and value of perseverance and endeavor, or any other series of extraordinary events in an unreal world, there is good reason why they are known as "wonder tales." From all of these ideas, "Snow White" is one of the very best examples, with its ebb and flow of who has the upper hand, the most cruel of villainess, the stoutest of defenders, and the wished-for happy ending, this tale offers intrigue, devious plot twists, cheer-out-loud moments, and a chance to immerse yourself in a faerie world of rich content. Here at AAW Games, we look to bring you all this and more as Aventyr experiences its very first folkloric fantasy! ![]()
![]() Rise of the Drow is shipping this month, the Underworld Races and Underworld Classes lines are rolling out, and we're setting our sights on the next big project: the Snow White Kickstarter. One of Endzeitgeist's Top 10 RPG Products of 2013, Snow White is getting the deluxe treatment! We've crafted a wonderful Kickstarter to see that all of the content and art get an upgrade into a revised, premium quality hardback book! Kicking off the momentum of last year's amazingly successful crowd-funded project, the innovative reworking of the classical Hessian fairy tale is being made it into a book that no player (or GM!) will ever forget! The pool of industry celebrities and professional artists (that include Owen KC Stephens, Raven Mimura, Christina Stiles, Jen Page, Mates Laurentiu, Wolfgang Baur, and so many more!) are collaborating with co-authors Jonathan G. Nelson, Stephen Yeardley and Will Myers to expand the original adventure into a unique setting with a place in any GM or player's library! Keep your eyes peeled this month, take a look at the article about the Snow White Kickstarter on NERD TREK, Gamer XP or A Sword for Hire, and "Like" the Snow White Kickstarter Facebook page to get info on early backer rewards. The launch begins as soon as we've mailed Rise of the Drow (JUNE!) so keep up to date with this exciting project and be there on the opening day to get the best deals we can offer! Thank you for reading! See you soon! ![]()
![]() I'm creating this thread to help answer questions about the Rise of the Drow trilogy by my company Adventureaweek.com (now AAW GAMES). Some folks have voiced concern over the vague description of our adventure as posted on Paizo.com. We're in the process of revising this so that GMs can get the feel for the adventure without giving away too much to players. Regarding expanded content: This book can also be used as a setting in and of itself to launch other adventures in Aventyr's Underworld. Enough expanded material is provided to run a campaign in the Fungi Forest alone (world's biggest mushroom forest). Please feel free to ask any questions you wish. If I can answer them I will or will have another member of our team hop in to elaborate when needed. If you have a question about the prologue, epilogue, player's guide, or encounter deck post them here as well; if those comments grow we'll start new threads where necessary encapsulating the previous posts for reference by other readers. Respectfully, -Jonathan ![]()

We're pulling The Deck of Miraculous Luck back for subscribers-only before too long, but it will be available to purchase from a printer sometime in the future.

![]() Greetings gaming fans! There’s currently an IndieGoGo project going on to get some industry gaming pros to GenCon (or PaizoCon), where they can network, run games, and meet the fans. I know what you are saying: “Why should I send someone else to GenCon when I can’t afford to get there myself?” Understood. Money is tight. We all know that. However, note that many of the 3PP publishers want to SEE these folks (Christina Stiles, Owen K.C. Stephens, and Amanda Hamon) succeed. We want it so much, in fact, that we have all banded together with other individuals to initially offer up 52 pdfs to make it happen. For a mere $25, you can get this expanding bundle here. But that’s not all. As gamers, you’ve likely heard the following names, as well: Jess Hartley (one of gaming’s premier women designers and fiction writers), ENDZEITGEIST (Thilo Graf, reviewer extraordinaire), and KTFISH7 (Josh Gullion—another great reviewer and member of Adventureaweek.com). Christina and crew would like to help them get to the BIG SHOW, as well. To ensure this happens, we are adding even more booty to the bundle, and many of us are throwing in some money to assist in funding this project. We ask that you please consider helping out. If you can’t help monetarily, please help spread the word about this wonderful offer. It’s not to be missed! ABOUT THIS GROUP: ENDZEITGEIST (Thilo Graf): Hi everybody, my name is Thilo, but most of you may know me from my rampant reviewing under the screen-name Endzeitgeist. I’ve been playing roleplaying games for about 15 years now and started playing with 2nd edition Planescape and Ravenloft (which were incredibly hard to get in Germany!) – my love for dark and gritty settings has never ceased and I still love them. I’ve been a DM for all this time and RPGs are still my favourite hobby. Apart from versions of (A)D&D, I’ve also played Engel, Shadowrun, old WoD (Vampire and Wight), Midgard (the German Old-school-Rpg), Call of Cthulhu (which I love to death), Trail of Cthulhu, Warhammer Dark Heresy and several others. Right now, I’m DMing a weekly campaign that switched from homebrew-3.5 to homebrew-PFRPG with a focus on horror, madness, insanity and political struggles. Apart from reviewing, I’m working as a translator, programmer, editor as well as a teacher at a university and currently work on my PhD. I’m also a language nerd and am constantly trying to pick new ones up. My ambition is to be as impartial as possible in my reviews and I hope it shows. Christina Stiles: Christina Stiles is a freelance role playing game writer and editor living in South Carolina. She is the author of Unhallowed Halls and the co-author of both The Village of Briarton and the 2007 Origins-Award-nominated Faery’s Tale, a role playing game for children. She has done work for Goodman Games, Green Ronin Publishing, Eden Studios, Misfit Studios, and Atlas Games. Christina is also trying her hand at fiction writing, having recently completed a contemporary romance that is now in the editing stage. She’s keeping her fingers crossed that she’ll eventually find an agent and publisher for it. KTFISH7 (Joshua Gullion): Well, I’m your atypical gamer, I got hooked on funny shaped dice as a kid and never really shook the habit, lol. I believe my technical title around the AdventureaWeek.com camp is “That crazy insomniac who builds the PDFs”…but don’t quote me on that… I also do a ton of reviewing of 3PP PDFs for tabletop role-playing games. ![]()
![]() All good things must come to an end, and the Rise of the Drow Kickstarter is one of these things. With only 2 days left to pledge, we quickly approach your last chance to hop on board and snag a TON of incredible material unlocked by the stalwart support of our backers. Many folks have asked if we would include a prelude to get the PCs from levels 1-6 in preparation for the Rise of the Drow hardcover (levels 6-18). Our answer is yes, and there's more to come! Read below for more information and all the cool stretch goals unlocked thus far. The new version of the trilogy starts the journey at level 6 and ends at level 18. Having said that, we have passed a stretch goal which tosses in a prelude called "The Darkness Arrives" which takes the PCs from levels 1-6. A PDF of the prelude is included for free at all pledge levels $45 and above. There are also plans to craft an epilogue called "The Commander of Shadows" which (if we reach the stretch goal) will grant another free PDF taking the PCs from levels 18-20. Thus, the short answer is levels 6 to level 18 in the hardback book. Long answer: levels 1-20 if you run the prelude, Rise of the Drow hardback, and the epilogue. You can add print versions of the prelude (and epilogue) for $15 each. We've also added a PLAYERS GUIDE. Here's where the stretch goals are now (2 days left to pledge!!): UNLOCKED $5,000: Hero Lab files of all monsters and NPCs. UNLOCKED $6,000: Endzeitgeist, Paizo community reviewer extraordinaire (over 1000 reviews!), to author a section – The ecology of the Vidre, the primary adversaries in Usurper of Souls. The man behind so much of the look and feel of Adventureaweek has returned to offer his distinct style to several of the interior pieces. UNLOCKED $10,000: Jason Stoffa, co-founder of Fat Goblin Games to author a new section - on the Undersea and a new subrace of corrupted dwarves. “Know that all which rests beneath the sun decays. All things made by mortal hands and in into this world brought, with the rise of shadow all shall return to naught...” Book of the Black Earth Imprisoned deep within the dark earth, the last living shard of an immortal being once again stirs to life. Its newly awakened essence spreads as a pollution across the light-less waves of a sprawling underground sea, threatening a twisted reign of madness among those unfortunate enough to be touched by the corruption of its gathered power. Already counted among its unwilling servants are a colony of lost Dweorg. Once part of a clan that fell to a victim to a long forgotten calamity, these dwarves have built a massive kingdom upon the toiling of slaves. Widespread rumors of a dark cult, strange creatures, and of the Dweorg's obsession with unearthing an unknown relic lead adventurers into a cursed place that even their hated enemies, the drow, would fear to tread. UNLOCKED $11,000: Brian "Necroblivion" Berg to author "House Invidious" – The sick mind behind Total Party Kill Games will be bringing us a new drow house for use within the environs of the Rise of the Drow adventures. Generations later they hunger for revenge, willing to use and manipulate anyone and anything they can in order to reclaim their former status and wreak their everlasting vengeance. (shown above) Three free PDF adventures to whet your appetite whilst waiting for the Rise of the Drow hardback to be completed. Note that all backers at the $45 pledge level and above receive these bonus adventures! 30,500: Gaming Paper - Underworld Encounter Maps! Traveling through the Underworld, the players will encounter weird and wonderful caverns, challenging passageways, and many more strange natural phenomenon. These tiles allow you, as GM, to plan and position interesting and exciting random events for your PCs; their geomorph nature grants many different possibilities, giving many hours of action and excitement for the PCs. The packs will include maps from: Underworld (dry caverns)
More details will be revealed as we approach this stretch goal! $31,500: Underworld Encounter Cards Even in times of war, life goes on for those that live in the Underworld. As the PCs travel from the surface to Embla, from Embla to the outskirts of Holoth, and then even into the city itself, they will encounter the citizens of this subterranean realm as they go about their business, whether that is a problem with a previously unseen ooze, a deep gnome hermit in the middle of a 100 year retreat or a government-sanctioned assassin returning, injured, from a kill, with an angry mob on her tail. This pack will be made up of over 100 encounters that can be dropped into Embla, Holoth or any of the caverns and tunnels that run from the surface to the drow city. Prepare for the unexpected, for your players are quite likely to encounter it! Note that all backers at the $45 pledge level and above will get a Underworld Encounter Cards PDF, but if you wish for a print copy, you may simply add $5 to your pledge total. $32,500: Full Faction Integration Get your NPC into the hardbound book with a lucky few seeing their NPCs written into the main story alongside the PCs! The concept for Faction Designation is for each pledger to come up with a human, a dwarf, or drow they would like to see appear as an NPC in the appropriate section of the trilogy. The factions include: Humans from Rybalka, and elsewhere, which include troops sent to help the PCs, slaves held in Holoth or even agents of Yul and his undead cult. Drow within Holoth, but maybe who are spies elsewhere. They could be members of House Gullion, House Invidious, or perhaps just renegades. Dwarves within Embla, or perhaps returning traders, or even allies from Stoneholme who have decided to help Embla despite Stoneholme's lockdown! All that is needed is a name, a class or activity (Profession/Craft), and a two line description. The NPC will then appear as someone the party can meet and interact with. We are intending to use them as clear encounters for the PCs, so we'll be including chances for Diplomacy, Intimidation, a question or two, or perhaps a purchase from your character. In addition, if this stretch goal is reached, we will be producing a special supplement with more than 100 detailed "random encounters" suitable for all the main settings. We will be looking to add the best of the NPCs sent to us as the focus of these encounters. Finally, Stephen Yeardley will be taking the five most interesting NPCs, as decided by the Adventure-a-Week team, and write them up as an alternative party for the GM to use from the very outset of the adventure. Players will encounter this party early in the prequel, and there will be encounters with them throughout the entire Rise of the Drow trilogy. They will grow in stature, and feature as allies or enemies, as the PCs decide. If chosen, Stephen will be in touch with you to get your thoughts on how you would like to see your NPC grow into an important part of the Rise of the Drow! 35,500: Epilogue A PDF version of the Rise of the Drow Epilogue "The Commander of Shadows" will become available as an add-on. This adventure by Jonathan G. Nelson & Stephen Yeardley contains an exciting alternative ending to the trilogy which takes the PCs from levels 18 to 20 with epic encounters that will blow your mind and close the curtain on the Rise of the Drow trilogy once and for all. Note that all backers at the $45 pledge level and above will get a PDF copy. Epilogue Teaser: "As the darkness flickered around the long-dormant body, the soul of the Matron Mother fled Holoth and rushed headlong to the waiting clone. Alone in its deep-buried chamber, resting on a permanently chilled bier, the rush of spirit into it caused it to react as if electricity had passed through it, and the gasp that escaped its lips would've frozen the bones of the most hard-bitten of adventurers. Moments later, the dead body of the old Matron Mother arrived next to the now-activated clone of Maelora. The woman looked down at the broken body, still clad in its martial finery ,gave a wry smile, and said to herself ",My vanity blinded me, clouded my judgement, but it won't happen again." She striped the body, her former self, and quickly dressed in the equipment. Now the clone still feels weak, but her new strength is rapidly flowing through it, and soon she will be ready. Now Maelora glances around the chamber, a 10 feet-per-side cube, and spots what she is looking for. Touching five of the six sides of the chamber, other similar cells appear, each with a body on a sarcophagus - loyal troops, from decades ago, waiting for such a moment as this. Then the Matron Mother touches the final wall, directly in front of her, and door appears. Beyond is a chamber, colossal in size. Within rests the body of a spider, a fully developed, fiendish, monstrous creature that was gifted to Maelora for when revenge was required. The body looks tired, damaged, but Maelora knows it is from beyond the gates of the Abyss, and will fulfill its obligations. Maelora reaches for a amulet that is pinned to the doorframe. It burns with venomous cold fire, as gifts from her goddess always do. The Matron Mother steps forward, loudly chanting the liturgy that will activate the amulet. As the words reverberate around the massive hall with all the power they contain, the acid-green gem at the center of the amulet gets brighter, blindingly so; but Maelora continues. As the final phrase passes her lips, she thrusts the goddess's token deep into the spider's body, the passion flowing from her every pore. Then, imperceptibly at first, the corpse stirs; a twitch, a flex of a leg, and then the zombie spider rises. Maelora laughs, uncontrollably, and turns away, her arms raised; "No, it won't happen again. No more mistakes!" From back in the cell where her broken previous body lies, the sound of bones and flesh rending can be heard. "To me!" Maelora snaps the command, and the feeding stops. From the room steps one, two, three, four, five drow-shaped nightwalkers. "My real children, let us take back what is truly ours." $37,500: Epilogue in Print A print version of the Rise of the Drow Epilogue "The Commander of Shadows" will become available as an add-on. Note that all backers at the $45 pledge level and above will get a PDF copy, but if you wish for a print copy, you may simply add $15 to your pledge total. $40,000: Free 3 month subscription to Adventureaweek.com! Existing AaW subscribers will have these bonus months added to their current subscription. Eligible to all pledge levels $45 and above! MORE STRETCH GOALS TO COME!!! ![]()
![]() So, as third party publishers we've all had our fair share of projects which require a last minute piece of stock art or four. There's no time to wait on an artist, or the project has already gone over budget, so paying an artist to do a custom just isn't a viable option. Many times a thorough search of the internet proves fruitless making our product feel empty in places. As we have developed and released a new adventure every single week for an entire year (over 52 so far), we have found many bits of monster and character art which seem to be missing from the stock art archives available to 3PP. For example: Giant Centipedes. Never found a good piece of art to fill this hole. Our goal is NOT to become a provider or middle man of stock art (in fact the artists I'm working with are going to see 100% of their sales), but to fill the gaps wherever possible. I started a Google Doc where folks who work for 3PP can add their requests for stock art (monster or character) and the artists can fulfill them. This will help everyone involved, artists and 3PP alike. If you would like me to share this document with you please reply to this thread and/or email me at jonathan (at) adventureaweek.com Thanks! ![]()

![]() Ktfish7 aka Joshua Gullion suffered a stroke this morning. He is in Room 720A at Provena Hospital in Urbana, Illinois. He cannot access any accounts nor use a computer at all at this time. Please contact the hospital directly in order to reach Josh at (217) 337-2000 and ask for room 720A. Anyone corresponding with Joshua or waiting on reviews may not receive a response for quite some time. Our positive thoughts and prayers are with our friend Joshua Gullion. Please take a moment to send yours as well. ![]()
![]() Hello everyone! My name is Jonathan Nelson and I am the founder of Adventureaweek.com. I was just curious how many of you have tried out our BASIC-Series intended for use with the Pathfinder Beginner Box. Out of those who have run this adventure, what did you like most about it? Kevin Mickelson (Mask of Death) authors the BASIC-Series and thus far has written "A Learning Time", "A Frightful Time" and "A Giving Time". I actually just finished running the first adventure in this series (Learning Time) for my wife and 10 year old son. They loved it but found some parts a little difficult for beginners. What's your take on this? How did your players with this adventure? Had they played RPGs before, or was this their first time? Any suggestions or requests on what you would like to see next? You can check out the BASIC-Series here: http://adventureaweek.com/?page_id=18172 ![]()
![]() Happy Holidays, here’s a FREE adventure!
The Adventureaweek team has a special surprise for you and your players this holiday. Whether you’ve been naughty or nice, a paying subscriber or not, you’ll be getting this gift from AaW stuffed in your GM stocking this year! Todd Gamble and I would like to thank our entire team for all their hard work on this special holiday surprise for our fellow game masters! Thank you Joshua Gullion, Will Myers, Nathan Land, and Stephen Yeardley. You are the best team a couple of guys could ever wish for! A0: Crow’s Rest Island Shrouded in whispered rumors, Crow’s Rest Island has been avoided as long as any can remember. Nothing but death, and the memories of those long gone, greet any who take to land upon the isle’s shores. It is to this island that the PCs will find themselves driven as a storm threatens to drive their ship below the waves. Awaiting the PCs are far more than ghost stories upon this island, for there lives a very real threat, hiding here among the legends that keep sailors at bay. A classic ghost story that casts the PCs not as adversaries to the specters, but rather as their benefactors, A0: Crow’s Rest Island challenges the PCs with a tribe of foul kobolds, a haunted village, and the forgotten servant of a long departed ice devil. An excellent introduction to the Adventureaweek.com campaign setting, this adventure gives the PCs their first glimpse into Vikmordere culture. A0 may also be easily ported to any setting containing a northern wilderness near a large body of water.

![]() Adventureaweek.com launched March 1st, 2012 and since that date we've succeeded in our mission of providing you with a new 3.5/Pathfinder compatible adventure every single week (36 as of this weekend). We gave you the A-series which took place in our campaign setting, the Rise of the Drow trilogy spanning over 500 pages, the B-series by dozens of guest authors (some of them 2012 RPG Superstar contestants), and our tribute to old school classic-style adventures, the C-series. Most recently we added the BASIC-series for Beginner Pathfinder Players and GMs, and SIDE QUESTS Volume 1. Going into the holiday season, we wanted to join in the giving spirit and spread some RPG goodness around. But, rather than just put out a plate of cookies and watch it vanish without a word, we're thinking more along the lines of trading PDF Adventures for your suggestions. We write adventures, but suggestions on what types of adventures (or adventure paths) you and your group want to play will help us make sure that we're writing the kind of material you desire. So, leave us some comments then send me an email at jonathan(at)adventureaweek.com with your forum name so I can verify your comments, as well as the name of one PDF from our catalog (catalog available to view on Paizo or Adventureaweek.com/store) and we'll make sure you get it along with a humble thank you from our team for your participation. ps: Make sure you check out the Super Genius Games thread where Owen is giving away a free PDF for your suggestions HERE. ![]()
