Seeing Bastardhall in the title of this blog made my day.

Happy International GM Day!

Today is also the anniversary of everyone's first GM, Gary Gygax, so I just want to stop and thank each one of you for taking on the mantle of story teller. I appreciate the time and effort that each one of you put into your campaigns, and I hope that you'll find GM'ing to be as wonderful, as fun, and as fulfilling as it is now well into your -

*rolls a d20 on the aging effects table*

-venerable years and beyond!

So I ask you: who has been your favorite, most influential, or just all around most fun, GM?

I am always willing to see more adventures set in Ustalav :DD

My pumpkin carving took a Pathfinder spin this year :)

The first one is based on my avi, and the other is based on Bestiary 4's Jack-O-Lantern :3

Here they are in my kitchen:

And here they are lit up.

Bonus: Here's some shots of my front porch :D

I hope everyone has a safe and fun Halloween :D

I knew going into reading this last chapter there were too many loose threads for them all to lead down such intriguing paths as had come before. Still a satisfying conclusion - I had hope for Ennis to the end.

Thank you for the fascinating tale Gabrielle. Looking forward to more soon!

Hey folks!

I just noticed that the navigation column on the left side of the site got updated, and I wanted to say that it looks pretty rad :)

Its cleaner, easier to read, and better organized, so thanks to whoever did that! :DD

So Westboro is gathering in my hometown for the very first time next week, and I'm organizing a sort of counter protest.

Westboro likes to push peoples buttons and then sue them, so I'm imploring people to stay calm, and focus on being a human barrier between them, and the churches and high schools that they're going to gather around.

I've also gotten in touch with the Wounded Warriors Project to turn their demonstration into a fundraiser for the WWP - turn a negative into a positive, yeah?

So I'm wondering: have any of you guys been involved in countering Westboro? Do you have any suggestions or advice on how to handle them?

NOTE:

I really don't want this thread to devolve into a political or religious debate; please keep such discussions out of the thread. I don't want this devolving into yelling and screaming after post #4.

I'm hoping all of these question threads will bring the Adventure Paths to a standstill! :D

Anyway, you're rad, Jessica, and you need a thread :D

We have these for the iconics now...why not one for Wes?

(And by the way, that's your first official question, mister)

So I've been haunting this sub-forum for a while, marveling at, and absorbing, all of the amazing ideas to make the AP better. However, one thing that has really stuck out is how people have chosen to use Kendra Lorrimor in their campaigns.

Originally intended as a one-shot NPC who gets put on a bus, I've noticed that some people have included her in the investigation of Harrowstone.

However, more worrisome are the instances of her being turned into a damsel to be rescued at the end, or worse, married off to the BBEG. Both times, she's relegated to basketball between the PCs and the enemy, and both are tired and increasingly insulting tropes.

Personally, I'm planning on making her a rogue with the amateur gunslinger feat, and arm her with a dagger, a hand ax, and two single-shot flintlock pistols. Her adjusted background is that she and her father were hunters of the undead before the opening of Carrion Crown. I intend to use her off and on throughout the campaign as a supporting NPC, and helping the PCs out in a few CR adjusted dungeon crawls.

So I ask, what have you done with Kendra? Did you give her an active role in the campaign, put her on a bus, or did she become a prize for the pc's to earn?

Let's talk about Neutrality.

There are all sorts of threads on falling paladins, and what it means to commit good and evil acts, but not on the nature of neutrality. I feel like I'm a neutral guy, and I usually gravitate towards that alignment for my characters, but what is neutral? I think that characterizing it with labels like "apathy" are just as bad as those who think that CN = schizophrenia, or that LG = Lawful Stupid.

I usually just play my TN characters as characters who will do the greatest good for her/himself - this usually equals doing good for others for the sake of the character's own well being, but not being afraid to commit a little larceny and murder to get the job done, if need be.

Stereotypes of the TN character:

-Apathetic
-Actively seeking balance in the world (eye for an eye, etc)
-Totally doing whatever (but not in a destructive CE way)

What are your thoughts on the matter?

Let's keep this civil :)

So I wanted to get some advice for an ability that I'm trying to roll up for my tiefling rogue character. Its called Brimstone Step, it will replace the spell-like ability, and yes I'm totally trying to rip off Nightcrawler. Its sort of based on the Conjurer's Dimensional Steps, but with a few mechanical twists to make it more flavorful as well as reigning in any power creep that having this ability at first level may cause.

Here's what I have so far. Warning, this is my first attempt at homebrewing such a complicated ability, so its kinda wordy and its probably not in the right tones:

Brimstone Step (Sp) As a move action, you can slip magically between spaces up to 20ft per day, as if using the spell dimension door. You must be able to see the space you are moving to. When this ability is used, a burst of brimstone is released into the air as you travel through Hell, filling the space you previously occupied and the space you move to for 1 round. Any creatures without the devil subtype adjacent to either of these spaces must make a dc 15 fortitude check to prevent becoming sickened for 1d4 rounds

At 2nd level, and ever two levels after, the maximum distance of this ability is increased by 5ft. The user is exhausted for 1d4 rounds if this ability is used to move more 10ft in one move action. At 5th level and every 5 levels after, the maximum distance you are able to travel without becoming exhausted is increased by 5ft.

At 4th level, you can bring other creatures with you no larger than one size larger than you, but you must expend an equal amount of distance for each additional creature brought with you. Any creatures brought with you without the devil subtype must make a dc 15 fortitude check to prevent becoming sickened for 1d4 rounds.

Every time you use this ability, you must roll a d100 and a d6. If your rolls total 66, you leave the space you were occupying, but you do not land in the space you were moving to. Instead, your ability fails as you are traveling through Hell, and you and any creatures brought with you become trapped there.

This ability replaces the tiefling's spell-like ability.

---

A few notes: I purposely changed the wording of Dimensional Steps to allow the user to take any creature with them, willing or unwilling. I just think it adds a little bit of flavor to it.

I really want to have fun with this ability, but I also don't want it to be too powerful, so I added the fun bit about getting trapped in Hell :) I think it adds flavor and a severe mechanical reduction in power. I would want to play the character without metagaming, not knowing that using this power could get me trapped in Hell.

Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated!

Hey there,

What level should I get my party of 8 up to before I let them take on a CR 15 Nosferatu cleric? I want it to be a challenge for them to fight him, but I don't want a TPK, either. I can totally add in minions to the fight (and he has shadow summoning powers, too), so I can always boost him a bit if its starting to look too easy.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Long story short, I've decided that one of the upcoming NPCs (or villains!) in my campaign is a Cleric of Ke$ha, who I am basically presenting in game as she appears in real life; the modern retelling of the god Dionysus. Ke$ha is the goddess of youth, freedom, partying, drunkenness, disorderliness, glitter, music, and bad decisions.

Her domains should be:
Liberation, Animal, Charm, Chaos, and Youth

Ah, but there's the problem; no youth domain!

So what do we need to build a domain? We need two domain spell-like abilities, and bonus spells from 1st through 9th levels.

Ideas:

Ensemble (Sp) - (Inspired by the Teamwork Feat of the same name)
You can start a synchronized dance party around you. All creatures within 20 feet must make a Will save DC of 10 + 1/2 your cleric level + your Wisdom modifier. If the creature(s) fail the save, they automatically aid you with your Perform check to dance as if they were aiding another as an immediate action. While under the effect of this ability, the creatures cannot make any actions of their own besides perfectly mimic your dance moves. The total number of rounds of this effect per day is equal to your cleric level + your total Perform (Dance) ranks. The rounds do not need to be consecutive, and you can dismiss the ability at any time as a free action. Each attempt to use this ability consumes 1 round of its duration, whether or not the creature(s) succeeds on its save to resist the effect.

Forever Young (Ex) (Ripped from the Monk's Timeless Body)
At 10th level, you no longer takes penalties to your ability scores for aging and cannot be magically aged. Any such penalties that you have already taken, however, remain in place. Age bonuses still accrue, and the you still die of old age when your time is up.

---

Those are my ideas for the two domain powers - I have no clue what we could do for subdomains, or the bonus spells. I'm not totally married to the above abilities as they're written now, but I think they convey what I want the domain to do (and I really want the domain to give you the power to start a improvised dance number against the will of those around you).

SO, who wants to help me out with this? :D

I need some help fleshing (no pun intended) this one out. Here's what I've got so far. I think I really liked some of the skills the Vampire Hunter Inquisitor offers up, but I don't want this character to be a spellcaster class, and I don't want to dip into Inquisitor, because I really like the rest of the ranger abilities. As such, I'm also trying to figure out how to replace the spellcasting that the Ranger normally has access to. Here's what I've got so far.

At first level, the Undead Hunter adds Knowledge (Religion), Knowledge (History), and Knowledge (Local) to her list of class skills and removes Knowledge (Nature), Knowledge (Dungeoneering), and Handle Animals from the list.

At the risk of reposting the ENTIRE ability box, here's what I want to change:

Favored Enemy: Exactly the same as the Ranger ability, but the Undead Hunter must choose humanoid (undead) as their chosen enemy at first level.

Bane (Su): Exactly like the Vampire Hunter ability (see spoiler box at the bottom of this post) - replaces Wild Empathy at first level

Silversmith: Gain at second level. Exactly like the Vampire Hunter ability.

Additional notes:

-I think that Hunter's Bond should be replaced with something...do you think it has a place in this build? If not, what kind of ability would you replace it with?

-I think I want to remove the spellcasting from the class, without weakening it too much...what kind of ability would be powerful enough to replace spells? Maybe additional combat feats? Maybe a bonus feat that can only be used on Weapon Proficiency? Or maybe even Exotic Weapon Proficiency (for those vampire hunting whips and wooden stakes :D) That way, each level the Ranger would normally get a new spell slot, they can instead master a new weapon.

What are your thoughts? I'm still really new to all of this, and would love any and all feedback.

Thanks!!

EDIT:
I almost forgot, it would be sweet to add the Assassin's True Death ability to the Undead Hunter, but only against undead:

True Death (Su)

Spoiler:
Starting at 4th level, anyone slain by an assassin's death attack becomes more difficult to bring back from the dead. Spellcasters attempting to bring a creature back from the dead using raise dead or similar magic must make a caster level check with a DC equal to 15 + the assassin's level or the spell fails and the material component is wasted. Casting remove curse the round before attempting to bring the creature back from the dead negates this chance. The DC of the remove curse is 10 + the assassin's level.

I hope I have the right forum - I'm still finding my way around here.

Ok, so I was playing Dark Souls the other day, and I picked up some Gold Pine Resin, which, if you haven't played Dark Souls, imbues your equipped weapon for a time with lightning, causing it to deal lightning-element damage. There's a resin for a few different elements. So I'm thinking of homebrewing something similar for my campaign, because I think it would be neat to use a resin to apply ghost touch to your weapon before going on a ghost slaying mission :)

Is there an item out there already that I just missed? If not, do you have any suggestions on how to roll some stats for an item like this?

Thanks!!

I hope I'm posting in the right place.

Ok, so my brother's character is a lawful good Inquisitor of Iomedae working for the church as a member of an evil slaying brotherhood. My character is his younger half brother, sharing the same mother. However, our mother was a witch and had me through a devil, for which she was executed by the townsfolk for. He and I escaped together. Some years later, he developed a sense of duty against evil, and joined a militant order of Iomedae. He loves my character dearly and knows that I am a good person, having been raised by him, but he kept me sheltered until we got to a town that wasn't completly opposed to me exisiting. As a conflict for the story, we want his order to accidently find out about me and our mother, and excommunicate him because duh. They tell him to slay me because humans are imperfect animals of fear and not the saintly people that the deity companion guides would have you think all of Iomedae's followers are. He would become an ex-inquisitor and become neutral good because he chooses me over his duty.

Here's the question:

When the church kicks him out, would Iomedae uphold their decision due to her sense of law? Does her church have the Catholic power to have its laws on Earth upheld by heaven? Or would she not abandon him because duty to family is still law and duty despite his brother being half devil (even though he himself is neutral good)?

Thank you for all the help!
