Male Elf Battle Sorcerer (4)

Orelan walks over to inspect the well, hand on hilt and expecting trouble.

Zoom, pls can you email the map to me also: wil(dot)cooper(at)gmail(dot)com Thanks

Orelan steps onto the pier behind Sabriel and Larkspring, Orzo the rat nestled familiarly at one shoulder, "Not much of a welcome after all that travel. Do you think they're planning a surprise celebration?"

He looks up at the silent bridge and the eerie stillness.

"Don't be sorry - your caution was well placed. Indeed, let's see if there's anything unusual about this backpack..." Orelan's fingers draw sparks from the humid air as he murmurs a brief spell. He touches the sparks to each eyelid, and looks around, seeing...

Cast Detect Magic and look for magic auras on, in or near the pack.

"I am most certainly up for some refreshments."

Sabriel eyes the cool water. "Are there any dangers in the water? Is it possible to go for a dip in the river or are there not very pleasant things lurking under there?"

"Well, I heard there are catfish the size of Fir. Could be a tale for gullible travelers, but..." Orelan gestures at Fir, asking if Sabriel really wants to risk it.

Male Elf Battle Sorcerer (4)

"We're certainly making a good start on the hospitality."

Orelan summons a corona of dancing blue energies to play around the fingers of his left hand, draws his rapier in the other hand, and moves to cover Triska.

Cast Shocking Grasp - Damage: (5d6=20). 5 foot move to stand between Triska and the Kech; looking to gain an attack of opportunity if it attacks Triska, or defend myself if it attacks me.

Triska of the Shundar-Quah wrote:
"We're under attack!" Triska calls out, alerting anyone who hasn't seen the ape-creatures.

Hearing Triska's shout, Orelan leaves the shade of the cabin, rapier in hand. He pauses at the door, taking stock of the scene before him.

"Well, I wonder what these creatures are? Cursed rude; attacking in this heat."

Male Elf Battle Sorcerer (4)
Triska of the Shundar-Quah wrote:
Triska sits and sweats for a few minutes before finally stripping off her sweaty armor. "How does anyone survive in such a land?" she asks no one in particular. "I feel like I'm in the Cinderlands in the middle of an emberstorm!"

"Hah - very true. It is a little warm."

Orelan follows Triska's example and stashes his breastplate downstairs, under his bunk. He emerges from the cabin with a flask of water which, with an arcane gesture and muttered incantation, begins to frost over.

"Cold drink, anyone?"

Cast Prestidigitation.

The morning finds Orelan sat in the sun, eyes closed and legs stretched out in-front of him.

"This may be our last chance to rest up, friends. Let's make the most of it."

Sabriel Angelfire wrote:

"Quickly man, there are creatures attacking the boat. We are battling them at the moment, but before we were attacked in the sleeping quarters we heard a splash and think that at least one of the crew may be overboard."

That said, she dashes back over to the railing to survey the battlefield that used to be the deck.

"Well. It seems this one has had enough of your steel, Triska; and of your beasts, Larkspring! Perhaps we should leave it to slink back to it's lair?"

Orelan looks around; does anything seem to pose more of a threat right now?

Male Elf Battle Sorcerer (4)
Triska of the Shundar-Quah wrote:

As the creature turns to leave, Triska once more slashes across its back. "Come back here!" she yells.

Finally!

Orelan thrusts low, aiming for the creature's legs as it turns to flee.

Sabriel Angelfire wrote:

Seeing no other creatures about and giving up on trying to warn the others, she points her hand in the direction of the creature and lets loose another blast of Eldritch Force, which slams into the deck between Triska and the Creature, narrowly missing Orzo.

Orelan looks round briefly as he senses a wave of fear from his familiar; but his attention is quickly back on the creature menacing him, and Triska. He lunges forward with another pointed comment, emphasising his disagreement with the enemy by trying to pin it to the deck.

Triska of the Shundar-Quah wrote:

"Yes!" Triska calls to Orelan. "Your help is needed! There may be more of them hiding in this gods-cursed rain!"

"Indeed! With all haste then, my friend."

Orelan steps out into the downpour and extends the point of hi rapier over Triska's shoulder, aiming for the creature's throat.

Attack rapier 1: (1d20+7=24, 1d6+2=8)

"What are these things anyway?" does anyone have Kn(Nature)?

Male Elf Battle Sorcerer (4)

Orelan realises he can't see past Triska to the enemies outside the door.

"Triska, are there many of these things? Let us know if you need our help, otherwise the rest of us can just get some sleep..."

Male Elf Battle Sorcerer (4)

Orelan watches Triska's strike approvingly, then bends to scoope up Orzo the Rat. His mouth shapes arcane syllables and with a crackle of blue light all of his familiar's fur stands sharply on end.

Orzo scampers forwards past Triska and Larkspring and attacks the ankles of the first enemy he finds.

Orelan casts Shocking Grasp, using familiar to deliver touch attack. Damage is Shocking Grasp: (5d6=18). Orzo moves forward to attack whichever creature is closest to the doorway - attack roll is Touch attack: (1d20+7=19). The rest of Orzo's stats are on Orelan's character sheet.

With a grin, "Come on Sabriel - no time for cosmetics and hair-brushes!"

"You don't think they're friendly then, Triska?" Orelan looks at the monstrous intruder... "No indeed, I suppose not.

With a negligent seeming gesture of his left hand Orelan sends a fiery bolt of energy towards the creature; while drawing his rapier in his other hand.

"Are we guards indeed - I thought we were passengers for now and were to guard the outpost. It's possible that I wasn't listening hard enough; at least I would never think to doubt you, Triska."

Suiting action to his words, Orelan joins Triska in keeping whatever watch they can from inside the cramped cabin. He sets Orzo, his rat familiar, to scouting under tables - though whether for enemies or stray cheese is hard to tell.

"Alas Sabriel, the cards will have to wait."

Listen (+2 from familiar); Init: (1d20+5=19, 1d20+3=22)

Male Elf Battle Sorcerer (4)

Orelan raises one delicate eyebrow, then moves inside as requested. He produces a deck of cards and a small flagon of brandy from within his doublet, "Well. It seems we must entertain ourselves."

Sabriel Angelfire wrote:
Sabriel takes a quick look around the boat and sighs when she sees the quarters she will be sharing with everyone. No more sleeping naked for a while.

Male Elf Battle Sorcerer (4)
Sabriel Angelfire wrote:

She looks at Orelan. "As my friend said, we will also be taking dinner here and would like your finest food available. Breakfast in the morning as well."

"How much will that be for all of us, including the bear?"

"Well, now that Sabriel has taken charge of our entertainments for the evening, there is nothing left but to enjoy ourselves; and then be off with good heart tomorrow!"

Male Elf Battle Sorcerer (4)

Orelan waits for the others to make their purchases, then collects his potion, cloak, and food.

"Silk rope, I think."

He casualy tosses the bulging pouch of coins from Kelim onto the counter top... "Take the cost from there - there should be enough."

"Hmm. That last potion you mentioned sounds interesting." Orelan entertains a brief dream of striding through the jungle, huge as a tree, crushing enemies under foot. "How much for that potion, and a water-proof cloak, 2 weeks rations, and some stout rope?"

"Good day! We need equipment," Orelan begins, then helpfully explains, "For a journey in the jungle."

Orelan looks around at the wealth of packs, bundles, poles, ropes, lanterns and crates that line the walls and floor and hang from the ceiling.

"I'm sure you have a standard list somewhere... aha!" Orelan's eye's are distracted by the carefully ordered and labeled potions, "what potions do you have?"

With that, he excuses himself from the table and goes outside to look for a rain barrel or horse trough to wash up in.

"Stout fellow. Never can hold his drink," says Orelan with an affectionate shake of his head.

"Well, shopping can wait till tomorrow then. Tonight I'm going to make the most of this bar. Who knows when we'll next get a chance to enjoy such fine wine..." Orelan looks down at his mug... "Enjoy such acceptable wine..." Orelan fishes a lump out of the thin vinegary wine... "Enjoy such fine company!"

She turns and looks at Orelan with a playful grin on her face. "That is of course unless you would care to join me in the bath, then I'm sure Triska would get them for me, wouldn't you sweetie."

Orelan smiles at this, an old joke between the traveling companions. "Indeed, enjoy your bath, dear Sabriel. I need a new shirt and some supplies."

Looking round at Larkspring and Triska, "Of course I'm coming with you, surely you didn't think I'd abandon you? This sounds like a fine chance to explore up river, and on this fine gentleman's coin. All to the good!"

To Kelim, "Sir, it seems we are agreed; and are at your service. Now, what can you tell us of these cannibals? Are their powers mundane or mystical; are they living or undead ghouls? Anything you can tell may help us defend your interests..."

He wears a rapier at his hip and bears a fine, oiled mustache. In a soft voice laden with the faint accent of the Shackle Isles, he says, "Greetings. I am Kelim Esteban, captain of the River Queen, and I have a business proposition to make you...if you care to let me buy you a drink." He gestures to the enterance of a busy tavern nearby.

"Well. That's a fine offer - any reason why you choose us for this honour?"

Orelan is polite but a little skeptical; this is their first time in Bloodcove after all. Zoom, do any of us recognise the snake emblem on his broach?

"Indeed Triska! I have been thinking the same thing. Only in my case it's a tailor I'll be seeking." Orelan's eloquent gesture takes in the rips and tears to his linen shirt and leather breeches.

Orelan attacks once more, ignoring the pain of his wound. Rapier attack, damage: (1d20+7=21, 1d6+2=5)

Second Round

Larkspring mutters a strange, soothing incantation, and gestures with his now-free hand, Orelan's wounds are healed, as he feels a cool sensation envelop his injuries eazing his wounds to a dull ache.

"My thanks, Larkspring. As ever."

Orelan looks at the beast with narrowed eyes. It seems a little slower to it's left side where Triska's arrow impedes its movement. He strikes...

"Blood! This things fast." Orelan exclaims as he tries and fails to dodge the beast's serpent-like strike. He drops his shortbow in the mud and calmly draws his rapier.

"And I'm not the only one, either," she says with an arched eyebrow.

"Mmm. We do seem to end up in places that boast the most aromatic and colourful locals. And you say this is the civilised part of this region? Who's idea was it to come here, again?"

Orelan walks casually through the mess, head held high, and somehow manages to step around or over the mud and filth, his boots nearly as polished now as when you left the boat.

Everything sounds great guys! I'll set up a thread in the pbp on Sat with the intro and we will be off and running.

So to recap, we have:

Barbarian/Ranger
Druid
Battle Sorceror
Warlock

Strengths: Plenty of combat, probably enough healing, plenty of blasting.

Weaknesses: No 'utility spells' (identify / knock / see invisible etc), no rogue skills, no dedicated 'face'.

Are we happy to go with this?

Male Elf Battle Sorcerer (4)

Hi guys. I'll level Orelan up to L4.

Orelan is a Battle Sorceror, so has combat like a cleric, and will have a few blasting type evocation spells.

Not quite ideal for wilderness play but should be plenty fun.

Zoom - how much gold do we have for equipment?

That being said I just picked up two adventures I would like to run pbp, Flight of the Red Raven and River Into Darkness! I wanted to give everyone here a chance to join in the game first before I look elsewhere. Both are 4th level wilderness adventures that take place in Golarion. If interested post here and you can keep the same character for this game(adjusted to 4th level) or create a new one, your choice! Let me know!

Zoo

Yeah I had misgivings after noone had posted in 2 weeks. Oh well, it was fun while it lasted.

I would be interested in playing in one of those games if you will have me Zoo.
I will probably keep Artemis and advance him, as it will give me a chance to try out his concept at a higher level (which was one of my goals in this game). Plus one can never be playing enough D&D! =)

Sorry to hear that Zoo; I was having fun. I'd like to keep playing Orelan and 4th level sounds pretty good. Let me know when the new thread starts up...

Male Elf Battle Sorcerer (4)

Thanks for NPCing me, Zoom - and sorry for the absence. I had a long weekend in Sydney and didn't manage to get to an internet cafe.

Orelan flashes his blade towards the last remaining foe, feinting high before trying for a lunge at the goblin's belly.

Rapier attack on goblin 7: (1d20+1=20, 1d6+1=6). Threat confirmation roll: (1d20+1=5)

"You should have run with your master, curr!"

Orelan's first choice will be the ring (until we find out it's horribly cursed); alternatively I think he's the one most likely to use the arrows?

Male Elf Battle Sorcerer (4)

"Hah! Good blow Magatha! Come Artemis, Spider -- with dear Magatha as inspiration let us put paid to these foes!"

Despite his wayward aim with rapier and dagger, Orelan is getting more and more cheerful as the fight goes on.

Question: Should I move up to try and catch the leader and his two guards in a Burning Hands, or should I save it for later?

Male Elf Battle Sorcerer (4)

Orelan supports Spider, attacking the goblin at G2.

Attack: (1d20 1=6, 1d6 1=4)

Male Elf Battle Sorcerer (4)

Orelan briefly wonders whether he should move towards the grouped goblins by their leader; another [i]Burning Hands[i] might speed things up if he got all four of them.

Deciding that would leave him too exposed, he moves up behind Artemis and Magatha, then flips a dagger from his belt at the closest goblin. Move to G6 then throw dagger at goblin-1. Throw dagger: (1d20+3=7, 1d6+1=2)

Male Elf Battle Sorcerer (4)

Orelan moves left along the wall, towards where Magatha faces a snarling goblin. Lunging past her left shoulder, he attempts to introduce his rapier to the goblin's throat.

"Pardon me Magatha!"

Move to d7. Attack with rapier vs goblin 4: (1d20+1=2, 1d6+1=6) - Fumble!

Seeing his strike go well wide he says to Magatha and Artemis- "Ah well, over to you then."

Initiative: (1d20+3=19). Assuming that init roll is high enough that no-one gets in the way, Orelan casts Burning Hands on as many enemies as possible. Should be quite a few in the confined space...

Boiling scarlet flames jet 15 feet from Orelan's outstretched palm towards the oncoming foes. Burning Hands damage: (2d4=3)
