His plan went better than was expected... that is to say, getting shot out of the airlock at another spaceship didn't end with him being immediately killed. Unlike the version of the story he would spend the better part of the next decade, he wasn't the deciding factor, nor did he singlehandedly take the bridge. he did, however, distract, harrass, and otherwise disable the enemy, and set them up to be slaughtered by the murderbot.
afterwards, he considered staying, either with the sixes, or with Quibbick, but neither took. he was too unpredicatble for the new sixes, under Aggy and Gears, but after she stabbed Grellick in the back, it started getting too... real? Dunno, but he didn't much like it.
after that, he and Suzy Q tried to settle down on a far away planet, but discovered that neither of them were in a place where they could settle down, so they parted, on amicable terms.
Ironically, he met another merc 4 years later, a half elf who was a lot like him (Flippant, violent, sentimental, and ultimately a goodguy). the two began working together until an injury crippled the girl. Rather than go back to working solo, Dexter left the business altogether. the two pooled together their "Rainy day" funds, and bought a bar on a stable asteroid. became something of a notorious smugglers den and Merc joint, great place to post a job.
the two never had kids, never wanted them, but they did have a happy (well, as happy as life gets in this galaxy anyway), quiet life. Somehow, it wasn't the high risk lifestyle, traumatic memories, or numerous enemies that got to Dexter in the end, it was simple time.

Hold up there feathers. We aren't abandoning those two just yet. 2BR is an incredible asset in any combative mission, and Retzac... well, he distracts the guys from shooting at us sometimes. Dexter moves toward the view-screen, where the Heirophant is (Probably) still shown, and indicates the bridge I need you to get me a clear shot from the airlock to there before sweeping out.
He takes the long route to the airlock, stopping by where he left Sona and Quibbick. Gears, Suzy Q, Get some exosuits on and follow me. I have a plan.

For the record, Dexter isn't into Sona, he just hasn't had a chance to flex his Inuendo muscles in a few hours.

Dexter flips the handle around, showing it to Sona to reassure her he still has it. You know, before this mission, I was always a fan of old school knives, but this things pretty good. You may have turned me over to the cyber-side, Circuits! he winks before going forward.
This next bit assumes we get to the sixes unchallenged
Dexter rushes on, leading the flock behind him, and practically pushes them through the airlock. Captain Feathers, where can I put these guys?
as soon as the prisoners are safe, he turns back to Sona. Two questions. First, can we move the sixes above the bridge? and 2, on an unrelated note, what are the odds that fancy sword can slice through exoglass?
Male Human Survivor | Lvl 4 | XP: 4 | HP: 17/27 | Gambit 0 | Armor 1 | 1d10 | STR +1 | DEX +1 | CON +2 | INT 0 | WIS -1 | CHA +2
the group moves relatively quietly (some stumbling, a few people who need carrying). They almost get caught, but fortunately Dexter and Quibbick catch them unaware, and deal with them before they can raise the alarm.
Eventually, they get up the elevator, and almost run headlong into Sona. Sona, Mon châtelaine, ma belle dame! it is lovely to see you! He smiles, while Quibbick gives him an "Are you seriously hitting on the cyborg?" look.
Listen, we need to get these guys out of here, and then take the bridge. Retzy and Bunker will keep em off us for now, but that window won't last forever. what should we do?

Retzack, the Black wrote: Yeah...yeah.
I knew him...before. Retzack's first incarnation was as a goblin Mage with a GM called "Froggy". He had some other games going on for a good long time, so I thought it would be for the long haul.
We actually completed the first mission, but when we got back to the goblin tribe, an army of humans kinda curb-stomped us. Posts started slowing as things looked glum, and then...nothing.
Hence, I'm not saying this is bad, but the guy you know as Mooshy didn't choose the handle "The Foolish" out of a hat. He's real bent up that he cut and run the first time, but he has large mood swings. Sometimes.
Anyway, I'm sure he'd want us to carry on in his name. Just as Froggy returned as Mooshy, I'm sure he'll be back.
And he'll want to play. =)
So, do we get xp for triggering "Mysterious past"?

Dexter pulls Quibbick to her feet, and turns to examine the other prisoners It's okay, you're safe now.Follow me, and I'll get you to the escape ship while my allies cover our retreat he tries to be comforting. assuming any of the guards weapons survived 2BR's barrage, he will tell them to arm themselves, on the off chance we encounter hostiles. he also quietly hands Quibbick his pistol, and whispers If I get overwhelmed, I need you to get these people out of here. Go down this hall, two rights, a left, and then use the third elevator to the the fire-control deck. from there, go down the hall, and three lefts, and you'll find where Sona is. She'll get you to the sixes.
>En Route to you, with a few refugees. anything you could do to clear my way is appreciated Dexter sends back to Sona, and then calls up Captain Buccanero's com, texting rather than trying to talk through the interference >Coming to you, have a few rescued prisoners with me. be advised. he ties to mimic formality, but isn't especially good at that

So, we might want to make that a milligram, or micro-gram, instead of a gram, because, having done the math, a gram of antimatter annihilating would release enough energy to evaporate 263 tonnes of iron.
also, I'm kinda a sci-fi nerd with devices, so I love the adventuring gear in this.
Male Human Survivor | Lvl 4 | XP: 4 | HP: 17/27 | Gambit 0 | Armor 1 | 1d10 | STR +1 | DEX +1 | CON +2 | INT 0 | WIS -1 | CHA +2
Sounds good. I'll get these guys out of here. Dexter says, watching the prisoners shamble out of their cells, he kneels beside Quibick. He can't afford to carry her, not deep in enemy turf like this, so plan B. He reaches into his FTS bag, and pulls out a syringe, filled with high dose caffine, synthetic adrenalin, asprin, and the equivalent of a hearty lumberjack breakfast. common on university campuses (The perfect solution to an early class after a night of partying) it is dubbed the "Deluxe Alarm". oe injection should get Quibbick on her feet
Marking off a use of Adventuring gear
as he puts the empty syringe back into his bag, his fingers brush across a little device he forgot he had.
Bunker, before you leave, A little present for you. He pulls the device out of his bag, and tosses it to him. Place it down, hit the timer, and in thirty seconds, it will turn 1 gram of whatever it's touching into antimatter. Use it on one of the rooms we don't want them to retake.
Another use of adventuring gear, if McKhaos allows me to use adventuring gear to pull out explosives

Teleporting Bastard Dexter says Okay, so we have two issues. the prisoners, and the Heirophant. We cna't leave the prisoners alone, they'll get killed, or worse. but if we don't deal with the Heirophant, they're liable to blast the station out of Orbit. Anyone got a plan? Dexter asks desperately thinking. then he remembers Retzack, alone in the corner and terrified, and realizes what he needs to do.
Dexter Calls Retzack over from the prisoners, and pulls out Mr. Stabby, then draws him across his forearm, before offering it (His arm) to Retzy Drink up, I need you competent.

It had been months, almost a year since He had last seen Quibbick. the two had met in one of Grellick's establishments. she had already been a few drinks in when he sat next to her. He had intended for it to simply be a one-night thing, but instead of going from talking to more physical activities, they had simply kept talking, comiserating about working for a sociopath mostly. she and he had met a few times after that, she had become almost a friend. when he heard she might be in trouble, he had volunteered for the undercover assignment to rescue her. How has she changed since our last late-night talk?

I feel like this would be a nice time to activate Reminders Of The Past, but would you tell me a basic overview of this person, so I don't contradict established stuff?
about to wrench the collar off, and activate the fail-safe, Dexter has a flash of thought The control panel, bright-spark, try the control panel. If you keep on this course, you'll get yourself killed. he frees his hands, before going over to the panel and Assuming it is just hit button x/ a simple, obvious sequence of buttons frees the prisoners.

Okay, if I survive this one, gonna have some interesting stuff to tell Charlotte Dexter thinks, fiddling with the collar. his working hand quickly flies to his comm, and hits the on before going back to examining the collar. Sona, my goddess on high No harm in a little flirtatious banter, might help the ice queen loosen up. I see you already are in the prisoner containment facility. could you try to countermand the kill switch, i'll do my best to protect her while you do.
with that, Dexter quickly finds the electrical nodes for the kill switch, placing himself as the path of least resistance between them. even if the kill switch is activated, it won't hurt the girl.

he goes around the corner, just in time to watch 2BR reduce the guards to gelatin. Note to self, don't f#@+ with the murderbot. then she stumbles out from the cell, I rush to her before anything else happens. Kneeling beside her, a carefully examine the collar, seeing if I can safely remove it.

Okay, so that was effective, maybe I should talk with the Murderbot, he's good. anyway, 5 guards, 3 of us, and honestly, retzy seems to be having problems Okay, get him out of the line of fire, and line them up for 2BR..
He leaps out, away from the wall, into a roll, only coming up long enough to sink a few plasma charges into the control panels, forcing the guards to leave cover, leaving them very open to 2BR's barrage.
Aid 2BR: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (3, 2) + 2 = 7
of course, this seals the door It would seem that the AoS has read the Evil overlord list, but that is a problem for when Retzy's fit is over, and these guards are mangled corpses. I grab Retzy, and half drag, half carry him around a corner, away from the line of fire.

Never trust a zombie, never trust an f@#&ing undead! Dexter thinks as Melphits betrays them. In the moments before the airflow gets to be too much, he seals the exosuit he is wearing, and grabs a mag-anchor and cable from his FTS bag a sci-fi-ed grappling hook, mark off one use of adventuring gear, and jams the anchor to the wall, holding on with his organic hand.

Then, he heads for a guarded section, lone guard, and starts giving terse orders "Straight from Melphits". The side effect is that Aid/Interfere changes from +BONDS to +STAT.
I would be game.
my flag might be Self-destructive "Heroism"- Call me on my reckless behavior
or maybe Shameful past -Press me for details about my life
what stat would aid become? I vote CHA

So guys, I have enough Xp to level, and I kinda want some input, because there are a few moves I am considering. for ones specific to my playbook, I'll post their text as well
Alone Against The World (CON)
When you stand alone against an approaching major threat, roll +CON.
On a 10+, after a glorious stand off, you drive the threat back, taking some damage.
On a 7-9, after a grueling struggle, you drive the threat back, but you suffer a permanent scar (physical, mental, or emotional), describe it.
On a 6-, roll your Last Breath - after a desperate attempt, you have failed.
You're Already Dead
When you would deal your damage, you may choose not to roll damage
and instead gain 1-Fate. You can spend all held Fate at any time to deal
your damage that many times to one enemy you gained Fate from, dealing
the total damage as a single hit. You can discard held Fate at any time,
should you choose to spare them.
Arcane art On the condition that Snark be counted as a performance. This would be me supporting the team through witticism, and good-hearted ribbing
Channeling this one would take some set-up, but could be pretty fun
Connections: Because of my criminal past, and out general need of guys who know guys.

EOS
Drive: Obtain something or someplace that is yours and only yours.. Well, I've found friends... i could argue our friendship being unique. or ifyou decide thats BS, maybe this spear. it is a nice spear. or a room on the sixes (Have we officially offered me that yet?). I'm gonna mark xp, and keep BSing until I earn it +1
enemy: it would seem e have overcome the initial defensive forces on the Hierophant. +1
Loot: This ship is as good as ours!... well, I'll let someone else call this one.
world: Is the AOS being willing the massacre a (mostly) peaceful space-station new? also, spontaneous human combustion is a myth, but spontaneous elven combustion is very real. +1
given his timely entry, my last bond is 2BR has potential, but I will teach him to spread destruction with flair!

MCKhaos wrote: I've been thinking a great deal about narrative control in dungeon world. I enjoy giving as much narrative control to the PCs as possible. On an unrelated note, I find my greatest difficulty as a DW GM is the defy danger 7-9 result. In an effort to kill two birds with one stone, I've been playing around with a re-write of Defy Danger. What do you think of this? Is it madness? Would you be willing to playtest it for a bit in our game?
I added the XP incentive to drive the players towards upping the ante. Another bonus for PbP, is that we've all seen that a player can in theory continue narrating a scene until they hit a 6- generally, or a 7-9 on a defy danger (alternatively, a player will get a 7-9, continuing the narration and it becomes difficult to retcon). If the player has control over 7-9, then a post doesn't really NEED to end until a 6- is rolled.
When you act despite an imminent threat or suffer a calamity, say how you deal with it and roll. If you do it
by powering through, +Str
by getting out of the way or acting fast, +Dex
by enduring, +Con
with quick thinking, +Int
through mental fortitude, +Wis
using charm and social grace, +Cha
✴On a 7+, you do what you set out to and the specific threat doesn’t come to bear.
✴On a 7–9, describe how the situation worsens for your character, the party, or the world. If the GM is impressed by your creative masochism, mark XP.
I hope you've realized that you have just written me a blank check for buttloads of xp.
but actually, that's really cool, may implement it over in my game, after you beta test it

Honestly, I was hoping I could take the hit for the whole group, but that was kinda optimistic Whoops, yeah you take no damage, just the one debility. I forgot to re-read survivor before posting. I think survivor just helps you so it wouldn't help the other players. No, only me, I was just hoping to contain it. c'est la vie. can I at least Justify an aid roll for Retzy and Jaimee, because I helped shield them somewhat?
Aid Retzy: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (6, 5) + 2 = 13
aid Jaimee: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (3, 1) + 2 = 6

Don't worrry, Mckhaos, my being the bestest GM ever, and my being a complete sadist are largely unrelated. you're doing your job well, I know I'm having fun, and I think these guys are too
