Hey guys, I just noticed that I've been logged out of Paizo on all my devices since like a week ago. I kept thinking nothing was happening because our campaign page wasn't displaying the (X new posts) alert. I'm still here.

no worries, wasn't just you. big power-outage at the paizo server wrecked just about everything!

RE: proficiency
Remember it scales, so you get better over time. Plus a lot of GMs (myself included) limit who can attempt certain skill challenges based on proficiency.

Last point: spellcaster classes tend to get better based on access to spell levels/lists. So whatever you pick, especially as a newer player, is probably recommended to stay in that class so you can get to the shiny new spell levels faster. YMMV.

Lehkazeran looked around the inn as the others slowly gathered their things. Shouldering his pack, he walked besides to the door, tossing a few coins back towards the barkeep to cover his tab and the drinks he'd been feeding the other patrons. Better to ask forgiveness than permission,' he thought to himself.

"Buying some time, I'll be back in a few, or I'll catch up," he muttered under his breath as he walked past Koro in the doorway.

Outside he took flight, gaining altitude safely until he could float and glide in the direction of Nephre's caravan. When he arrived a short while later he took stock of them, and floated a big lower to make himself appear larger, angling himself against the backdrop of the moon, from their perspective. He roared!

With powerful, performative strokes he flapped his wings loudly and wide, snapping them to gain the attention he needed, and then he exhaled a burst of bright red and orange flames in a large cone, wary of his positioning and keeping at an angle so as to maximize his visibility. Roaring again, he dove at them.

Pulling up at the last minute, Lehkazeran made sure to roar his most fearsome roar, intent on terrifying the entire caravan as he skimmed them, before flying back in the direction of Koro.

Errr, sorry Theo. I'll cite my sources next time.

Per the "Your Spellbook" section on the wizard page, you can only copy spells into your book if they're of a level you can prepare. You can only prepare spells of a level you have slots for. So level 3 spells aren't available to a wizard until she hits 5th level.

I would suggest feeling free using the scroll in an emergency (or even in a less-dire circumstance) as it will be quite a while in game until 5th, and spending a spell known on Fireball isn't the worst thing that one can do.

One thing that this shakes loose in my mind is that you never 'unprepare' spells. I don't recall if this was part of the discussion on the first go-round, but strictly speaking, changing your list of prepared spells is something you can choose to do after a long rest.

Likewise, after a long rest, you regain your slots (no choice on that one).

If you choose not to change your list, you keep the same list of prepared spells.

So unless something else went down, a wizard who lost their book wouldn't be without spells, they'd just be unable to change their list from whatever it was when they lost it.

Make of it what you will.

Ore looks on uncharacteristically quiet as he takes the time to think, really think, about the situation they've put themselves in. Sure, he'd followed along the plan, but he had to admit, Theo did have a point. And given what he knew of the orc culture, he doubted the females had been given much say in the any of the matters of the tribe, anyway.

And for that matter: who was to say the folks back at the settlement were really on the side of justice? Didn't the orcs live here first? Weren't the humans encroaching onto their lands, and taking the goods and resources these folks had collected? Ore gulped.

"I guess we fight on, then. But maybe after we head back to town, we take a bit to think on how we'll proceed before 'clearing' any more caves?" he said, in the first lull in the conversation.

Quite the Understatement, Frank!

edit, now with math:
If you're willing to pay 50 gp, and make the (reasonably easy) skill rolls, you can get 100 gp worth of building materials, then use that to make items at the normal 1/2 cost.

So if you want to make a 1000 price item like a cloak of resist +1, you can take ten on capital checks for 3 days and then build your cloak on the fourth day, having only spent 250 gp earning capital instead of 500 on "generic crafting gold pieces".

Potions are tough for psionics, because so much of the list is "range: personal", but 'Detect Hostile Intent' might be nice and I can manifest the actual power for you. An Oil of 'Psionic Lock' might be useful, and Connor can provide you with that one. Flann can provide the 'Share Pain' for a potion of that, which could be useful if it's a defensive strategy we plan on using at some poine. An Oil of 'Skate' could be good too, especially if we need to move something heavy while underground. That one does appear to be on your list.

I'll also suggest that you consider prepping a 'Minor Metamorphosis' extract, so you can turn into a dwarf (with a burrow speed, if you like) as necessary. You never know what'll happen underground!

Spore watched the others banter back and forth quickly, and listened intently. Despite the emotional tones and multitude of different accents flying about, he felt he fully understood the rapid-fire responses and calls to action from all involved-- testament to the practice he’d been getting lately. And, the content of the arguments was hard enough to comprehend on its own.

When Trystt calls for his own opinion, takes a moment to think before responding in his own slow voice, as Sterne discusses the good-hearted CEO.

”In nature, violence is permitted, for survival’s sake-- there is no cruelty where there is no consciousness. Sentience, while beautiful, comes with complications. We with it should take care of each other, and help each other to thrive. What Frank is doing...is a version of that. When a branch dies, it must be cut from the tree. Deciding who is a dead branch, is a terrible responsibility- and easily abused. But these people...are certainly close.”

Spore shudders, thinking back to not only the dead people, but the transformed alien plants. A single tear falls from his face as he wrestles with the gravity of what he’s saying.

”Their crimes against life and nature must be answered, before they continue to harm life. If possible, we should spare them, but not at the cost of someone else’s life. In many ways, my people consider ourselves tenders of gardens, if you will. This is deeply sad, but it is is a load I am willing to carry.”

Spore is willing to work with Frank, though he'll still try to save the bad guys if possible. And if Frank disagrees in the field, he'll be willing to fight him.
