A dwarf, more doughy than doughty, enters the room in a flour-stained apron bearing a tray of pastries. It seemed odd at first that someone hand-picked to compete in this tournament would have almost immediately made his way to the galley and started working with the crew, but a few meals that were better than you've ever experienced during travel have softened your outlook. It also didn't hurt that he showed you some of the other things he could cook up: potions both beneficial and baneful, and you suspect the meat in the larder is not the only thing that he will be flame-broiling during your stay in Goka.

He places the tray on the table before you. Even after arriving, he did not stop helping whenever there was food to be prepared. He has not been the best conversationalist, but nothing seems to stop him from ingratiating himself with the staff. "I think these should go well with this vintage," he says, taking one to his seat and pouring himself some wine. "Raisins may seem too on the nose, I admit, but a little bit of cardamom and something from my home that I'll keep secret for now allows the flavors to meld in a way you won't be expecting."

Apparently, he decided at some point that he should look presentable for the tournament, as his bright red hair and beard have been trimmed, excising the singed ends he seems to accumulate daily. At the moment, he is wearing plain explorer's clothing and his clan dagger, but you know that a wicked-looking glaive and a pouch full of dangerous reagents waits in his room for the moment when you are called to battle.

Farewell, Cooking Lore! Daraj received a message while he was away, stating that his parents reconstructed inn was once again in trouble - this time from possible bankruptcy. A drought in the area has raised food prices, and new leadership has raised taxes, and his parents are having trouble making do. Daraj can do little to help directly, especially since his exile is not over, but the reward from the tournament would go a long way to keeping the family inn in business until he is able to return.

IC background:
Daraj is the son of an innkeeper form the Mindspin Mountains, not far from Kaer Maga. he developed an interest in cooking early on, and by the age of 50, he was already performing most such duties at the inn. He loved to experiment, and one day, an experiment went a little too far while he was staring into the flames.

While the debris cooled, he was cast out for a century, and he headed southeast to live out his exile, and hopefully learn some useful techniques so that when he is finally welcomed back by his family, he can be the greatest chef the region has ever seen, and repay his parents' kindness by making the newly-rebuilt in successful beyond their dreams.

He followed the mountains into Andoran, where he was introduced to a professional alchemist who taught Daraj a better way to channel his talents. While he learned how to create stable creations that could heal or harm, he began experimenting with infusing foods with magical power, so people could derive their benefits from something less awful-tasting than potions. Coffee of haste is still a work in progress.

He does not have the look of an adventurer, for while he is skilled making concoctions that can explode, treat wounds or do any number of amazing things, he still prefers to prepare food over bombs. When first greeting a group, he will usually be seen in a flour-covered apron with a tray of pastries, and he refuses to accept that a party needs to subsist on hardtack and river water while on an expedition.

He has a rivalry with a goblin alchemist he was frequently sent on missions with named Lokoloko. Although their games about who can kill the most monsters, and in the most interesting way, usually end in a tie, Daraj won their last match at the Battle of Fort Agate.

OOC background:
Daraj was part of a long-running 3.5 campaign where he had to simulate his true calling as an eldritch knight, and used a couple times here on a PFS number that got turned into something else at 2nd level. The linked sheet would be a base, and Pathbuilder means I should be able to level him up 10 times relatively quickly.
