Atmospheric Dungeon Crawling

4/5

Had a great time with this as a 5th-level player. While it is certainly a dungeon crawl, the variety of encounters, unity of creepy themes, and unusual environment kept my interest. While I usually enjoy more social adventures, I found this one to be entertaining and engaging, with the right balance of challenging encounters that made me worry for my character's safety. Also, the scenario explicitly encourages characters to act like Pathfinders, which is great.

If you know what you are getting into...

3/5

It's not that bad!

Many people seem not to have enjoyed the mass combat part of this module, but my Taldan character had a great time as a general. That said, I did spend more time than I would have liked with my character sheet set aside.

To be honest, I had less fun on the final encounter, which used some of my least favorite tactics to keep the BBEG around.

Spoiler:
Mirror Image and displacement into a sticking cloud. Miss chance--grr

Pluses: Novel mechanics, opportunity for very cinematic scenes (with a good GM), and a truly delightful trap.

Minuses: Mass combat rules can be complicated, and need to be handled carefully. Last combat is grindy.

Investigation done right

5/5

Had a great time playing this with a small party in the lower tier. Specific things I enjoyed:

1) Well-handled investigative aspects that were a mix of skill and combat challenges.
2) Interesting NPCs for the GM to bring to life.
3) NPC opponents with interesting builds and surprising abilities.
4) Numerian technology handled in appropriate (non-frustrating) manner.
5) Interesting setting.

My only criticism of this scenario would be that it is a bit lengthy. My group was able to bypass one encounter, and we still ran up against our slot time limit. (Our GM also endulged us for quite awhile in the sandbox portion, so that may have contributed.)

Overall, give yourself some time to enjoy this excellent scenario.

Interesting and tough scenario

3/5

Ran this for a great group and we had a lovely time with some of the unusual encounters and opponents.

Some of the unusual rules surrounding season six's themes provide additional challenges for running and playing this scenario, and my biggest critique of it would be that there are some encounters where players felt like they had to "sit out" because they had nothing to contribute. I consider that somewhat natural, but unfortunately, due to the nature of the defenses in those encounters, they tended to drag on a bit. My personal preference is also for a bit more role playing opportunities on the PCs' part, though some opportunities are present for the GM to present interesting characters.

Overall, a tightly-writtern scenario full of unusual encounters. Steer clear if you don't like Numerian technology, otherwise enjoy.

Terror in the Tanglebriar

4/5

Played this scenario and had a great time! The author does an excellent job of conveying just how deadly and horrifying this area can be. The scenario includes interesting combats, some roleplaying, and non-combat challenges that, with a little creativity, can let seldom-used capabilities shine.

Word of Warning: Bring your A-game. If you want a relaxed night of roleplaying and bulldozing combats, this is not the scenario you're looking for.

Investigation and Intruige

4/5

This is my favorite type of Pathfinder scenario. Players must investigate the disappearance of a wealthy heiress and try to secure the support of her father for the Pathfinder Society. The mod is heavy on the RP, and players and GMs will get the most out of it with a party of people more interested in ferreting out the truth than murdering their way to a final boss. Kudos to the author for putting the PCs in situations that seem to have multiple valid solutions.

A few cautions though: I won't try to run this cold, and it's not a great scenario for a beginning GM. Thorough knowledge of the mod is very helpful when players ask a question that wasn't initially planned for, and the mod setup absolutely requires the ability to think on one's feet to account for unexpected player responses.
