Cathran Perception 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (7) + 10 = 17

"The heat is coming from behind these closed doors," Cathran points to those at the northwest, northeast and southwest walls.

She takes a sniff at the air to smell if there is any smoke, or any other indicator of source of the heat (using the same perception roll).

"Warmth in darkness," Cathran says, her expression one of concern. "Either my Lady is making us feel welcome in a place that She wishes us to cleanse, or there is another force at work."

Cathran frowns and thinks on the situation for a few moments. "The skulls last night came from lanterns, which are sources of heat."

Cathran Perception 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (16) + 10 = 26 Cathran can hear the colors!

"Something moved within the structure," Cathran notes suddenly.

Cathran narrows her eyes. "Is it really?" she asks. "I should think that the buildings are excellent shelter for such animals, and bereft of human interference they would breed prodigiously."

Let us hope that they are not capable of communicating ill humors...

"It is likely best we avoid them," Cathran observes. "And whatever it is that has stirred them so."

Cathran nods. "My lady's light, scant though it be today, wastes," she agrees.

"Wait," Cathran says, raising a hand to emphasize her treaty in the appropriate gesture. "This blood is not touched by the rain. Why?" she inquires.

Cathran casts Detect Magic and studies the bloody "V."

Cathran Spellcraft 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10
Cathran kn. Religion (likely no applicable, but it's what I got 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13

Cathran narrows her eyes at the sight of the blood, and in such a strange shape... The letter V? and finds it curious that the rain has not marred or washed away the substance.

Cathran Heal 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16

"Might someone tell me what the significance of this place is?" Cathran inquires as she begins looking at the base for some sort of clue to support what the others may say.

Cathran Perception 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (1) + 10 = 11
Cathran Survival 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15

Cathran's brow raises, then she tilts her head and studies the man for a moment. "This prison... you believe it is the source of the evil here?" she inquires. "If that is so, it is my duty to cleanse it, so that the hearts and minds of the residents may be healed."

Cathran places her fingertips on the headstone and offers a prayer in the language of her grandsire, a transmuter that dearly loved his family. It was he who inspired Cathran's life of service, and whom Cathran saw in the professor when they traveled together.

"May my Lady go with you, sir," she breathes in Common. "Yours was the path of Truth, your Light banishing ignorance and promoting Good."

Cathran looks to the skies for a moment, hoping for a sign of blessing from her Lady, the sun, and sighs at the mud burying her boots.

Ultimately each of us return to it, very few can aspire to glimpse your grace, Lady.

Having dispensed with her duties to the Professor, Cathran begins the slow walk back to Ravengro.

Cathran Sense Motive 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20

Cathran narrows her eyes at the woman's reaction, but in consideration of the terror of the previous evening, lowers them with her head in a gracious bow. "The blessings of the Dawnflower to you, Madame. May her light shine upon you and yours, and lead us each to the truth," she says.

Cathran Diplomacy 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13

Feeling more tension, Cathran excuses herself, and begins walking north on whatever path is available.

Hope you don't need a survival check for her to find it, I assume she can take 10 and discern the direction North.

Cathran wakes before the dawn, and true to her training, makes the bed with its sheets and blankets tucked so tight she can bounce a coin off the surface, then as light begins to spill over the horizon, kneels in front of the window and begins her morning meditations in the common tongue.

After a light breakfast, Cathran inquires where the Professor rests so that she can pay her respects to the man.

Cathran Sense Motive on Sheriff 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17 *sigh* better but not enough for a hunch.

Cathran returns Sheriff Caeller's study for a time, uncertain what his intent is. She recognizes that she is the only outsider in the hall, however, and that she is being ignored by the deputies. The mention of home further reflects that she does not belong.

Cathran clears her throat and glances nervously to the side. "Considering the chaos of the evening, and... my general ignorance of this area and its pitfalls - evil spirits, undead and errant statuary not withstanding - where might a traveler be welcome?"

Cathran sighs and shakes her head. "I would not know," she admits sadly. "It is said that evil spirits harbor a considerable amount of power. How they came here is a puzzle I am not privy to."

Cathran looks about, assessing the demeanor of the remainder of the contingent who are investigating the scene. Cathran Sense Motive 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9 Dice roller hates me today.

Aside to the Sheriff, Cathran speaks softly. "I do not wish to cause undue alarm, but if you've the resources as such, I would avoid using lanterns in densely populated areas, now. It seems," Cathran pauses and chooses her words, "elementary, but so many persons in one location, and afraid besides? Even a rumor of ill intent can drive them to distraction. With a unified front, a display of precaution may assuage many of their concerns."

Cathran shakes her head. "The ignorant fear what they cannot understand," she says sadly. "Please thank the Mistress for her kind offer, but I will remain here and see if I can discover the cause of the fires. I am certain the locals can inform me of an appropriate place to rest for the evening."

Cathran will return to the town hall and investigate the origin of the fires. She will cast Sift and use her amazing Elven senses to perceive if anything is out of place.

Cathran Perception w/ -5 for Sift 1d20 + 10 - 5 ⇒ (8) + 10 - 5 = 13

Cathran stares after Kendra's retreat. "Is... the mistress well?" she inquires. "I have no wish to intrude on her hospitality if she is having... difficulties. I am certain I could find some manner of alternative arrangement."

"I... see," Cathran replies. "Beg forgive my tardiness, Mistress. When next my Lady graces us with Her presence, I should like to visit his resting place. I did not know him long, or very well, but his theories on faith strengthened mine." Cathran offers a faint smile, and looks to the others.

"A warrior of the Inheritor? Well met, Mistress," Cathran says and offers a salute.

Sorry for not responding promptly, my husband shared his illness with me

"I know not, Mistress, only that I was dispatched to deliver the message in person," Cathran apologizes with a hint of a frown. "Might I ask when... the Professor passed?"

"I am Cathran, formerly of Mendev, and the Crusades," Cathran supplies and frowns. "Truth, like so many others, I traveled no further than Egede. I was dispatched with a message for Professor Lorrimor, but was forestalled along the journey."

"I have taken no damage, sir," Cathran answers almost immediately. "I mean no offense, but I would prefer to stay and offer my services to them who remain and discover the reason for the fires. I have some training which may assist with the investigation," Cathran looks to the sheriff for confirmation that her assistance will be accepted.

Jet lag is almost conquered, and Cathran is ready to use her new found Inquisitor powers for the force of good.

Cathran lvl 2 HP 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6

Cathran will continue beating at the fire at H15, without affect.

Cathran CMB DC 12 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9

Cathran moves to H15 and begins to fan the flames at G15 that threaten to choke out any chance that others might assist in saving the building.

Cathran CMB vs. DC 12 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11 well, that's a bummer...

Cathran draws her scimitar as a move action, and attacks the skull that injured her, invoking Sarenrae's name in Qadiri as she swings.

Cathran Scimitar Attack 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5 if it hits she will deal 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9 damage.

I knew this damn dice roller has been too generous to me. That thing needed a 20 to hit, and there it is. *shakes fist at dice roller*

Cathran's Kn. Religion base is +7, plus since she is identifying a monster as per the Inquisitor class ability Monster Lore she adds her Wisdom bonus, +3, for a total of +10. Pretty dope, huh?

"These foes are attracted to the flames!" Cathran calls out to her companions. "Do not allow any others to interfere!"

Cathran Kn. Religion (Skulls) 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (20) + 10 = 30

Cathran draws her shield as a move action, and takes a second move action to move to H11. Her AC is 19.

Not having BAB stinks, sometimes.

Cathran recognizes that she is unable to move quickly enough to save the remaining civilian threatened by fire, but she is near enough to one to begin fighting the flames.

Cathran CMB to extinguish flames at E11 vs DC 12 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17

Aye. It does seem strange. Plus, with the fires spreading, even if he was just trying to put out one close to the stage, it would be a huge help to the group as a whole. Pretty sure the town won't just be grateful to us for saving their lives if their meeting place goes up in smoke.

Cathran pulls the town's person at E11 from the fire.

Mother, please, this is your concern. Would that you not allow it to harm your children! My arms can only save so many without aide!

Well, part of it is being an intelligent player, as well. I thought initially that Cathran would try to save a burning townsperson. She might have made it to the one closest to the stage, but saw that darn near everyone on the stage was closer to him/her than she was and did not feel as though they would let a person burn to death. Second thought was "I shouldn't be standing in the aisle when panicking folk are trying to get out of here."

Other stuff can be worked out here in the OOC. I assume that Iovanna and Cathran get the opportunity to pull a flank train, they will probably try to work that out, or if there is an opportunity for Cathran to step forward and tank, she will do that.

Sorry, didn't know we scatter posted for "combat" in this game.

Cathran will double move, intent to save the town's person at D11, ending her movement occupying F11 if at all possible, if not, she will end her movement at H11 and spend her next round trying to save him/her.

Yeah, I took the average gold, and still have plenty to spend. Str 16 is a bit weak for a tank. Cathran would gladly pay for picking up more useful things like grappling hooks, crowbars and such, so long as she doesn't have to carry her bedroll and blanket everywhere she can actually hold them as well.

Cathran had scarcely time to process the Professors death when she was hurried towards the town hall by his daughter, daughter? Kendra. Cathran meant to thank the young woman, but for her curiosity with the proceedings within, she did not recognize that Kendra had simply started off without another word, or disappeared into the crowd. Cathran, scimitar peace-bonded at her side, stepped into the assembly and found a quiet corner of the small building from which to observe the proceedings. At five foot eleven, bronze complected, armed and of elven descent besides, Cathran cannot possibly be mistaken for a native, but curiously, not a one startles at her presence.

When the large man snarls at the crowd, Cathran's jet eyes narrow slightly, but as he continues she recognizes that there is more to his frustration than she can understand at a glimpse. She watches the warrior and the slight elven woman step forward and stand beside the tall man and the female knight. Are each of them the Professor's companions?

Cathran steps forward seconds after the elderly man walks towards the stage.

"Where evil swells in darkness intent to prey upon the world, I am bound by mine honor to my Lady of the Dawn to bear Her light and triumph, and to heal the hearts of them afflicted," Cathran states, shoring herself up to her full height. "I am Cathran, of the Crusades at Mendev, and if you will have me, I pledge myself to your cause."

DM Hamied:

Aye, sounds as good as a "hey, there's two new guys here to help you" is going to get.

Could be that he wrote to the Cathran's superiors about some thing concerning the Whispering Way shortly before his death, and they did not know when they sent Cathran with a message in response to him which was basically a diplomatic way of saying "Yeah, we got nothing, either, but this lady may be able to help you."

Hallo, hallo everyone. Cathran's name and origin are not novel, I assume, but I needed to specify for Paizo to allow me the name. I'll be your somewhat sneaky inquisitor of Sarenrae and probably as close to a tank as you're likely to get with AC 19 at first level.

Taken the Glory (Heroism) domain, which allows me to supercharge diplomacy rolls and at level 8 myself and the paladin (who I suppose will work together like a flank train when applicable) will be covered in an aura of Heroism, which is pretty neat!

Anything else folk need to know?

I hope my history is sufficient. This is my first elf, so I am kinda... iffy on how much stuff you should put into the history when you've been alive for tens of decades already. And they're chaotic, so I figured the big life scaring events for young humans aren't as important to them, on the whole. You just... get over it.
