Silver Crusade

Male Elf Paladin 1

Sorry, been sick the past few days. However, this game hasn't been fun for me since the 'fallen' paladin call, and I'm not interested in continuing. Please remove me from this game.

Silver Crusade

Male Elf Paladin 1

Longsword: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20
longsword dmg: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2

Caelreth raises his shield to block the hydra's bite, then takes another swing at its head.

Silver Crusade

Male Elf Paladin 1

longsword: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
longsword dmg: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

Caelreth slashes at the nearest hydra head. (I’m on my phone so can’t really move on the map, but will move if I need to to get in reach of the thing.)

Silver Crusade

Male Elf Paladin 1

Caelreth concentrates on the hydra for a moment (detect evil), then rushes forward to one of the nearby pillars.

I see that the hydra is apparently neutral from the above post, but Caelreth wouldn't know that.

Silver Crusade

Male Elf Paladin 1

Hearing a commotion up ahead in the warehouse, Caelreth charges forward and nearly runs into an anthropomophic mouse.

Double move.

Silver Crusade

Male Elf Paladin 1

Caelreth hustles into the warehouse, sword and shield at the ready.

Move and ready vs approach.

Readied longsword: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19
longsword dmg: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8

Silver Crusade

Male Elf Paladin 1

Caelreth stays silent and out of the way. Probably better he doesn't know what's going on, unless he wants Desna Sarenrae to take umbrage with him.

Silver Crusade

Male Elf Paladin 1

Reflex: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20
1d20 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 3 + 1 = 20
1d8 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 + 1 = 6

Caelreth manages to avoid the sticky webbing and slashes at the shock-lizard.

Silver Crusade

Male Elf Paladin 1

"You do realize who you're working for, right? Caelreth retorts as the man passes out into a magical sleep.

All of the threats neutralized, the elven paladin moves to the back of the wagon that Astingaire is at just in time to see the lizard-thing shock him. He jabs at the lizard in retaliation.

1d20 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 3 + 1 = 5

I’ll just take the retcon at this point, on both Sarenrae as deity and on Cael’s actions. We’ll see how things go from here with Caelreth continuing as a proper paladin. ;)

Actually, now that I can look at the map on my laptop, I don't think I can make it to the yellow one and attack this round, so just a double-move.

Oh, don't worry about the 'Wow, harsh xD' thing. I was laughing irl when I typed that, though I realize that wasn't obvious from just the text I typed. Caelreth is level 1 still, so it's not a big blow in the long run if he did lose his paladin powers. I'm not sure if you can do a level 1 rebuild from fallen-paladin to paladin again, but there's always rebuilding as a proper fighter (and then possibly back to a proper paladin as of level 2).

Noted about Shelyn's code of conduct, and I'll have to see if I can find a different one, because I don't like playing never-strike-first characters. Maybe Sarenrae.

GMRoll4:
Wow, harsh. xD

The only other GM I've played Caelreth under pointed out the Desna thing, though he only pointed it out to say that other GMs might care. I had actually thought Desna was NG when I made Caelreth, and it made the most sense since she's a traditionally-elven deity. If it needs to be PFS-valid, just consider his deity to be Shelyn.

On the bright side, if he's already fallen, there's no need to worry about later shady elements in the special! But does the paladin code of conduct really require him to only attack evil characters? Seems to me that under the circumstances, attacking the caravan crew was a foregone conclusion. I guess attacking an unarmed man would break the code of conduct (probably?) but he had a longbow slung over his shoulder, so I don't know that I'd call that unarmed.

Anyway, I can roll with it, no worries.

Caelreth blinks and grimaces, then notices that the man he was attacking has collapsed to the ground. "Well, then," he says, and notes that the rest of the camp is roused. The elf moves to attack the man who just grabbed his bow.

1d20 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 3 + 1 = 7
1d8 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 + 1 = 4

His recent disorienting loss of power apparently throws his aim off, however.

It's probably worth pointing out that mechanically it's inspire courage and not bless. Adds a +1 to damage that bless wouldn't, gives a bonus to saves against charms as well as fear effects--and isn't dispelled by bane.

Caelreth draws his own longsword and moves to engage the sentry.

1d20 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 3 + 1 = 24
1d8 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 + 1 = 8
Crit confirm: 1d20 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 3 + 1 = 7
Crit dmg: 1d8 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 + 1 = 5

AC 17

"Given the circumstances, I think the frontal approach is called for," Caelreth says, unshouldering his shield. "I don't imagine we'll catch them unawares, though, so let's keep that in mind."

The elven paladin peers through the trees, relying on his low-light vision to see if he can discern any caravan members who are awake.

Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27

Sloan sneers at the newcomer.

"Excuse us, elf. We are having a private conversation here."
Sloan says feigning pleasantries. He turns his back to Caelreth and signals his bodyguards to step in front of the interloper as he continues to discuss business with Leon.
"Now, my good sir, where were we? Oh, yeah... I never got your name..."

Caelreth looks unruffled as the bodyguards move to intercept him. "It'd be quite funny if the Aspis Consortium were disqualified from the auction for disrupting the venue," he says. "Don't worry, though. I can still hear what's being said from here."

The elf offers his most winning smile.

Silver Crusade

Male Elf Paladin 1

Caelreth looks from Sloan to Leon, one eyebrow arched. “Please, don’t let me interrupt.

Silver Crusade

Male Elf Paladin 1

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21

Having divested himself of the strongbox, Caelreth wanders into the crowd to make inquiries about the Aspis representative, Maiveer Sloan. “I hear the Aspis Consortium is interested in the key,” he says to someone nearby. “I imagine that bunch is worth watching. Do you know what their man looks like?

Silver Crusade

Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15

Silver Crusade

Male Elf Paladin 1

In spite of his own thoughts just a moment ago, the elf replies, a bit quietly, “On behalf of Sheila Heidmarch.

Silver Crusade

Male Elf Paladin 1

Caelreth dutifully follows after Berenstein. How were we supposed to log this? he wonders to himself. As Pathfinders? Or are we already incognito? Maybe as an adventuring company? 'Caelreth's Champions of Order'? Or maybe 'Durothil's Dragoons'....? Eh, I'll let the others do the talking.

The elven paladin smiles at the presumed proctor and hefts the box a bit, adjusting its weight to bring the box to the man's attention.

"If there are no objections, I will handle the strong box," Caelreth says. Mainly just to keep things rolling.

Readjusting his equipment, the elven paladin takes the strong box in hand and accompanies the group as it makes its way to the Cathedral of Abadar. Once inside, he casts around to see if he can find someone who looks like a proctor (or 'the Proctor,' specifically).

I don’t think it’s ever been an issue- but then again, I don’t usually play a paladin.

"If by paladin, you mean a solider who dedicated to the battle against evil," Astingaire replies dismissively. "Then, no. Soldier was but one of many the guises of the immortal Aroden. If the god of humanity does not allow himself to be defined by a single mantle should not I, as one of his faithful, also refuse any such limited manner of title or office?"

"I...see." The elven paladin makes a note to keep an eye on the human supremacist. Clearing his throat, he turns to the two newcoming halflings.

"Well met, Malakar, Merda. Given the number of us, I'd say it must be an important announcement. Maybe hunting down an evil cult? No, probably something to do with an ancient archaeological dig. But then, maybe we're stopping an evil cult from disrupting a dig?" With a shrug, he finishes, "Who knows?"

He offers his hand to the elf. "Glad to see I'm not the oldest one here. How long you been walking this ground, ancient one?"

The elf returns Beren’s handshake. “Not long. Only a century,” Caelreth says with a wry smile.

The elf then turns to greet the old man with the winged helm as well. “You’re a paladin then, Sir Astongaire?

Silver Crusade

Male Elf Paladin 1

Intadafiahagin surely isn’t his name, Caelreth thinks to himself. The tall, brown-haired elf-lord gives the mountain of a man a reserved nod and returns the handshake. Armored in scalemail and carrying a long sword and a shield, he replies, “Caelreth. I don’t recognize the accent—the River Kingdoms?

One of my absolute favorite games I've played in was a standard Race For the Runecarved Key a few years back, here on the Paizo boards. I've got high hopes for this one too.

Cael moves to the door Hap indicated. Jerking his head in that direction, as if to answer Pietro's question, he makes to kick the door down.

GM Socrates wrote:
so Caelreth has a move action left on the same floor as Hap, correct?

I was assuming I used a Standard action to actively use Perception, so his Move action was to go to level 3.

Silver Crusade

Male Elf Paladin 1

Not hearing anything, Caelreth moves down a floor. Using his move action to go to level 3.

Silver Crusade

Male Elf Paladin 1

Cael tries to see if he can hear the troglodyte from his current position on the 4th floor.

Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20

Silver Crusade

Male Elf Paladin 1

Did Cael see to what floor the big troglodyte fell?

Silver Crusade

Male Elf Paladin 1

Caelreth moves toward the stairs. Could someone move me? I'm on my phone. Thanks.

Silver Crusade

Male Elf Paladin 1

Reflex: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 = 20

The elven paladin's eyes widen as he feels the ground shift beneath his feet, and he nimbly hops back away from the floor just before it collapses. He peers down over the edge to see where the troglodyte fell.

Silver Crusade

Male Elf Paladin 1

Caelreth unshoulders his shield, then takes a step closer to the troglodyte and slashes at it again with his sword.

1d20 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 3 + 1 = 13
1d8 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 + 1 = 5

Caelreth ignores Pietro's bellow and charges after the troglodyte now, sword slashing in a broad stroke.

Dropping his torch, Caelreth charges the crocodile.

1d20 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 3 + 2 = 19
1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7

Silver Crusade

Male Elf Paladin 1

Cael doesn't really care, so we may as well go with Pietro's idea.

Silver Crusade

Male Elf Paladin 1

Just for good measure, Cael fixes his gaze on the bound man and attempts to ascertain his motives while he frees him. Detect evil.

Silver Crusade

Male Elf Paladin 1

Caelreth indicates the rusty key he's already using to unlock the man's bindings.

Silver Crusade

Male Elf Paladin 1

Cael sighs and gives Hap a long-suffering look.

Silver Crusade

Male Elf Paladin 1

"Balenar Forsend, I presume?" Carl says, moving to unlock the man's bindings with the rusty key they found on the troglodyte. "Venture Captain Dreng sent us."

Silver Crusade

Male Elf Paladin 1

1d20 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 3 + 1 = 13
1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9

Caelreth moves to engage the troglodyte as well, slashing at the lizardman with his sword.

Male Elf Paladin 1

I'm a fan of descriptiveness, personally. I think you're doing a good job so far.

Silver Crusade

Male Elf Paladin 1

Attack of Opportunity: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19
1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9

Caelreth swings at the prone troglodyte as it rises to its feet, then follows it up with another swing at the other lizard-man.

1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19
1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6

Silver Crusade

Male Elf Paladin 1

1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7

Cael slashes at the troglodyte with his sword, but the lizard-man is able to parry it easily.

Silver Crusade

Male Elf Paladin 1

Caelreth rolls his eyes. "If we do not have to fight it, I don't see a reason to do so," he chimes in. "Maybe try the other door?" The paladin moves to the southern door and starts to reach for it. Then he remembers that he triggered a trap the last time he did that, and thinks better of it.

Silver Crusade

Male Elf Paladin 1

Caelreth wanders around the room, keeping a lookout for additional threats.

Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10

Silver Crusade

Male Elf Paladin 1

Oops, forgot the inspired courage bonus. Those rolls should be 19 and 4.
