Julyan Dimbleningel
After next session my halfling bard Julyan Dimbleningel will become level 3 and I am quite undecided as to what feat I will select for him. I've really enjoyed playing a face/skillmonkey character, and it is those roles on which I intend to focus for this build. In fact, I rarely do more than grease and heal during combat. That said, here are the feats I'm currently considering:
Arcane Strike - I don't usually attack during combat, but having a magic-weapon-on-demand seems like decent utility for my usual group.
Skill Focus (Knowledge - Arcana) > Eldritch Heritage (Arcane Bloodline) - The idea of having a monkey or squirrel familiar appeals to me, though it seems like a lot of feats to burn for something that is basically 100% flavor.
Skill Focus (Perform - ???) - I've been using my "extra" skill points building my Knowledge skills in anticipation of Lore Master, so this would be a good way to jumpstart my second Versatile Performance skill.
Martial Weapon Proficiency (halfling sling-staff) - I really love the idea of this weapon, though a halfling with 8 Strength that rarely fights seems better served by a crossbow.
Spell Focus (Enchantment) - This seems like the most practical feat choice since I use charm person and hideous laughter pretty regularly and intend to select plenty more enchantment spells.
If there are any other feats out there that seem like they'd fit my play style, by all means put them out there. Thank you in advance for all your helpful and insightful responses!

The bells atop the Temple of Erastil toll their midday song, echoing throughout the quiet town of Kassen. As the peals begin to fade, the first of the townsfolk make their way into the square, dressed in black, as if attending a funeral. They slowly fill the square, moving quietly across the cold, hard ground, their eyes downcast and mournful. After a few moments, a murmur passes through the crowd as it slowly parts to let Mayor Uptal through. He leads the way with a tarnished silver lantern. Behind him, an old pony drags a cart laden with backpacks and supplies.
Once he reaches the center of the crowd, Mayor Uptal stops and calls out to the assembled townsfolk.
“Once again the winter winds blow through the Fangwood, marking the end of another harvest. There are wolves in the woods, howling at our walls, and serpents in our shadows, waiting to strike. Just as it was one hundred and seventy-four years ago, when Kassen himself left these walls to protect us, so it is today. Where are the heroes? Where are the brave folk that will venture out to Kassen’s tomb and retrieve the flame to keep this community safe for another winter?”
You may start with your character saying goodbye to your mentor/family if you wish to add some context. Otherwise, the four of you are standing before the mayor in town square from the start of this post.

Welcome would-be retrievers of the Everflame. Before we get started, there's some house-keeping to take care of:
1. Create an alias for your character. You may use whatever format you have handy and it isn't working, I'll work with you until it is.
2. Introduce yourself in the discussion thread. Part of what we will be doing before really getting started is working out a shared background. Nothing too major - just enough for there to be some in-game familiarity between characters.
3. Train yourself on ditzie:
A quick ditize tutorial
1. Click this ditzie link.
2. Move Kyra next to the rat.
3. Hit "Enter" to save the map.
4. Copy and paste the new URL created into your next post.
This is how we will handle movement in the game. You should always use the last ditzie map posted when making your moves. I need to know everyone has a handle on using the map before we get started. It's not hard, I promise.
4. Put the following information in your Class/Level field:
HP | AC T FF | CMD | F R W | Init | Perc | SM
Depending on your class, it might also be helpful to create spoilers with your spells, daily powers, and expendable inventory and put those in the Class/Level field as well.
Excited to get started with you!

It's that time of year again when the sleepy little town of Kassen calls upon four young adventurers to journey to their founder's tomb to retrieve the legendary Everflame. What could possibly go wrong?
I am looking for four players to run the quintessential Pathfinder dungeon crawl Crypt of the Everflame. Enthusiasm, writing style, and the ability to post at least once a weekday rank high on my list. Experience with Pathfinder or play-by-post is basically a non-factor, in fact, I encourage beginners to apply.
Don't worry about creating an entire alias just yet. If interested, post me a one or two sentence pitch that gives me an idea of what kind of character you'd like to play. The only story limitation is that the character should be from the town of Kassen.
One more thing that might play a part in whether you're interested in the game: I intend to use ditzie maps extensively throughout the game. If you'd like to play, please click this link and play around with the map to make sure you can access the site.
I will keep recruitment open through the weekend and will make my selections Monday morning after 9 a.m. CST.

Your hometown of Sandpoint is a quaint seaside settlement that periodically has problems with monsters, such as wicked goblins and hungry ghouls, but the citizens always manage to endure and survive.
Lately, however, a far greater danger has come to threaten the town. A few weeks ago, livestock started to disappear from nearby farms. Sometimes a half-eaten corpse is found, sometimes only bloodstains. The people of Sandpoint are afraid, and mayor Kendra Deverin is growing desperate. She hopes some heroes will volunteer to search out this menace and put an end to it before it kills a person. She’s offered a reward of 1,000 gold pieces to the group that stops this mysterious creature. Although no one has seen the killer directly, a long black fang was found in one of the animal corpses, prompting the locals to dub the unseen killer “Black Fang.”
You have decided to go on a quest to put an end to these brutal killings. Rumor holds that Black Fang is living in an old cave not too far from town, which has been used as a den for many monsters over the years. You’ve gathered your gear and are now approaching the entrance to this dungeon, but you still have a few moments to get to know your fellow adventurers.
*****
At last! The dungeon is in sight up ahead! Its entrance looks more like a cave than the front door of an underground fortress. A curtain of thick, green moss hangs over the entrance, hiding what lies beyond. Standing in front of the entrance is a menacing old stone statue of a warrior.
Map of Black Fang's Dungeon
As stated in the initial post, feel free to take some time in-character to get to know one another before approaching the entrance to the cave. Also, what's the deal with that statue?

Welcome players! I need you to do the following things before we can start:
1. Download your character sheet (here) .
2. Create an alias for your character, complete with appropriate avatar (search your iconic character's name and many choices will come up).
3. Put the following info in your header for my easy access (put it in the classes/levels section of your profile so it shows up under your name).
HP | AC T FF | F R W | Init | Perc | SM
4. Practice moving your character token with ditzie. A quick tutorial:
a. Click the link: Map of Black Fang's Dungeon.
b. Click and drag your character token to where you'd like to move.
c. Hit "enter" to update the link.
d. Copy and paste the new link into the bottom of your post.
!. Always use the most recently posted link.
Once everyone has successfully moved their character and posted the new link within the discussion thread, I'll get the game thread up and going.
Please feel free to ask any and all questions you might have. Now, let's have some fun!

Something wicked stalks the hinterlands of Sandpoint, killing livestock and spreading fear among the small folk. Whether for adventure, duty, or the reward of 1,000 gold pieces, Ezren, Kyra, Merisiel, and Valeros answer the call to find and slay the foul beast.
I'm a big fan of the Pathfinder Beginner Box, and an even bigger fan of using its streamlined rules in play-by-post. As such, I'd love to run four brave souls through Black Fang's Dungeon as the PFBB iconic characters.
A couple of notes for those considering signing up:
1. This will be my first time GMing a game on Paizo.com, so the adventure will be as much a learning scenario for me as for any new players. I have, however, GMed many, many games over play-by-post on other sites.
2. I will post at least once per day, and will expect the same from any prospective players.
3. Players may select from the four iconic characters included with the Beginner Box: Ezren (wizard), Kyra (cleric), Merisiel (rogue), and Valeros (fighter). You may download a free PDF of each character's sheet here.
4. We will make use of ditize maps for this game to track movement. This may limit enjoyment for those who cannot access these maps or who post frequently from a mobile device.
5. If this initial adventure goes well, I'll likely run further Beginner Box adventures, either having the players continue with the iconic characters or allowing players to make their own original characters with Beginner Box rules.
I will accept players on a first-come, first-serve basis, and hope to start the game before the end of the week.

I am about to start a new BB campaign (using the 0one Games module "Fangs from the Past") and want to pitch a house rule I've been developing - What if Spellcraft in its BB form was used more akin to Use Magic Device in the CRB? Here's how I see it working:
Identify a potion, scroll, wand
- Use Detect Magic
- Spellcraft DC 15 + caster level
Identify other magic item
- Use Detect Magic
- Spellcraft DC 20
Identify a spell being cast
- Spellcraft DC 15 + spell level
Use a scroll
If the correct class ...
- Use Read Magic
- Spellcraft DC 20
If another class ...
Use a wand
If the correct class ...
If another class ...
In your collective opinion, would this application of Spellcraft horribly unbalance the game? I feel as though non-casters at 1st-2nd level wouldn't be able to invest heavily enough in the skill to reliably use scrolls and wands in combat. The main unbalancing factor, in my opinion, would be wizards and clerics potentially having the entirety of the game's magic system at their disposal. Even so, at 1st-2nd level, it still wouldn't be combat-viable, right?
I'd appreciate any and all comments, suggestions, and alterations to what I've developed. Cheers!
