Welcome would-be retrievers of the Everflame. Before we get started, there's some house-keeping to take care of:
1. Create an alias for your character. You may use whatever format you have handy and it isn't working, I'll work with you until it is.
2. Introduce yourself in the discussion thread. Part of what we will be doing before really getting started is working out a shared background. Nothing too major - just enough for there to be some in-game familiarity between characters.
3. Train yourself on ditzie:
A quick ditize tutorial
1. Click this ditzie link.
2. Move Kyra next to the rat.
3. Hit "Enter" to save the map.
4. Copy and paste the new URL created into your next post.
This is how we will handle movement in the game. You should always use the last ditzie map posted when making your moves. I need to know everyone has a handle on using the map before we get started. It's not hard, I promise.
4. Put the following information in your Class/Level field:
HP | AC T FF | CMD | F R W | Init | Perc | SM
Depending on your class, it might also be helpful to create spoilers with your spells, daily powers, and expendable inventory and put those in the Class/Level field as well.
Excited to get started with you!

@Venedictos - No worries. We have plenty of time to get it straight.
Just wanted to give the heads-up: I'm travelling for the Thanksgiving holiday tomorrow and have decided not to bring my computer. Quality time with the family and all that. So, I'm hoping to use this time to get your shared backgrounds and character sheets all squared away with eyes toward starting in earnest Tuesday, December 3.
To my fellow Americans - Happy Turkey Day!
GM Everflame
@Bern - Good to hear it. ditzie is a great tool and I really enjoy using it.
Wondering where our ranger friend is. May need to replace him before we even begin.
So, how do your characters know one another? Ideally we'll have one sentence describing each, such as "Bern has heard of Venedictos's travels and is surprised he has returned to participate in the ceremony."
Nadab
Venedictos and Nadab grew up in the same orphanage, though Nadab would have been around five when Venedictos left to apprentice himself to the wood carver. Even at that early age Nadab was already in trouble constantly for bullying the other orphans.
At the age of eight it was arranged for Nadab to be apprenticed to the local smith as the Matron could no longer handle the boy.
More on the way, I've got to go to work :)
Ford Benett
Venedictos
Venedictos certainly would have known Nadab if they were both at the orphanage together (likely a very small orphanage in a town like Kessen, probably more likely the home of a local benevolent priest). Whether he'll recognize the grown-up half-orc when he returns is another matter. I put Venedictos at around 30 years of age, so likely he would have known many of the other characters as very young kids.
Nadab
@Venedictos: The home of a benevolent priest sounds good.
Living with Jake Greene, the towns smith was good for Nadab in that his many chores kept him busy and there we're no other children about regularly to bully.
However whenever he was given some fee time or was sent on an errand through Kassen he always found some trouble. Landing himself an overnight stay in the towns small jail on more than one occasion.
Yet this past year or so Nadab has kept his head down. Staying mostly in the smithy and attending to town errands quickly and quietly and he no longer frequents the tavern on his nights off.
In truth Nadab has been going through a trying time. His body has been going through some strange changes that have frightened the Half orc into some semblance of maturity.
@Bern: How about Nadab and Bern have met on occasion when you've needed your arms or armour repaired?
@Ford: Seems like Ford has been through what Nadab has gone through recently. Nadab is a little younger than Ford, perhaps Nadab noticed your abilities or perhaps you noticed Nadab's. Ford could be a little bit of a mentor to Nadab. what do you think?
Ford Benett
@Nadab: Ford might have caught on to Nadab's abilities since they're pretty similar to Ford's and that is the sort of thing he would be on the lookout for.
Mentoring under Ford... would be a bad idea, truthfully XD Then again, Ford would take any opportunity to show off his own skill, so perhaps Ford agrees to aid him in learning how to use his powers in exchange for 'studying' Nadab.

Sorry for the lack of activity - I've been away for the Thanksgiving holiday and posting from my iPad is less than ideal. The development that has been happening here looks good and I encourage you to continue it.
That said, I fear you all might lose interest if we delay any longer, so I'm going to post the initial game thread. Much of the start is development any way, so feel free to continue it in-character if you like.
Before posting, please read the new entry on the Campaign Info thread. It will provide you with the common background of the ceremony and quest in general that each of your characters would know having grown up in Kassen.
Nadab
I'm still really keen to get going on this game :)

Still here!
I've had a bit of a busy week, living away from home running RPGs for boarding school kids :)

Hello everyone, as promised last night to GM Everflame, here's Zane, reporting to duty.
Here's my ditzie test
I will now go to read on your histories, fix my status lines and all the other minor stuff needed prior to posting. Cheers.
Minor EDIT after reading a bit - it seems that currently party is consisting of Venedictos the Cleric, Bern the Fighter and Nadab the Sorceror. Since it seems that we are lacking a bit in the department of rogue-ish skills, what do you think if I quickly remake Zane as Urban ranger variant, in order to get Disable device at least? (if allowed by the GM, of course)
GM Everflame
Having someone with the skill makes good sense, but in keeping with the spirit of Core-only I'd rather not mess with archetypes. How about this for a solution:
Each player may consider one skill of their choice a class skill for your character. You should give a decent story reason why your character has this skill. Before we get going, you may make any changes necessary to your character sheet.
So everyone gets a trait of sorts thanks to Zane!

I think Zane is ready (crunch and a bit of backstory) as per the recruitment rules. A very silly question - (last item) SM which should go in the Class/Level field; what does it stand for?
According to his backstory, Zane is more or less a typical youth of Kassen and as such, would be more than logical to know most other characters (locals) in advance.
Am I to start posting in the Game thread or do I wait for "official check" and Go-ahead from the GM?
GM Everflame
@Zane Not a silly question in the least. SM is Sense Motive. Your crunch looks good, except you spent 21 points instead of 20. I suggest either dropping your Wisdom to 11 or dropping your Charisma to 8. Before posting in the game thread, check out the format of the other players' posts - write a little vignette about Zane saying his goodbyes or whatever else he chooses to do before the ceremony.
Looks like we've got our four - full steam ahead!
Nadab
Welcome aboard Zane!
Whew what a week. I Gm'd Numenera for 14 year old kids on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday (at my school teacher friends school in my old town.) and then for my old group on the wednesday night. So much fun but it wore me out.

Guys, sorry for my absence, just a brief FYI - someone has broken into our home (while we were away for 1 day) and ransacked it thouroughly. I have some issues while I put everything back in place, please expect me to start posting again in 1-2 days.

Finally back. Sorry for being offline for so long girls&boyz, I had some serious issues related to identity theft attempt and such, as a result of burglary. Anyway, I am on my way to Africa (where I work), I'm writing this from Frankfurt airport. I will be reading all your posts and start posting regularly from tomorrow.
GM Everflame
Two things:
1. While the loot you've found is not tremendously valuable, please post what of it you have claimed and update your character sheets accordingly. From here on forward, if its not on your sheet, then you've left it behind.
2. It is very important that you either post a link to an updated ditzie map, or you describe where you move using the map as reference (i.e. Zane moves one square to the right of the first left column). That way we jump right into combat or events without using a day for the "place your pawns" call.
Nadab
Did anyone note down the 87 GP we found on the man near the lake?
Zane did you take his masterwork shortsword?
There were ten blunted arrows outside, and I saw that Zane picked up the 20 that we found on the bodies inside.
Assuming I don't die... I'll pick up the two smoke sticks...
