HP: 17/28 || AC 17 (touch 14, flat 13) || F/R/W +3/+7/+1 Init +8, Perception +11

Sorry guys, I am in the field for business, no net here (Nigeria), returning to Lagos (Internet acces) on Friday, will resume posting then.

HP: 17/28 || AC 17 (touch 14, flat 13) || F/R/W +3/+7/+1 Init +8, Perception +11

Unable to exit towards east, Bryce is still keeping ready action, when the darkness finally goes away (or delays if nothing happens this round).

HP: 17/28 || AC 17 (touch 14, flat 13) || F/R/W +3/+7/+1 Init +8, Perception +11

Bryce is still moving slowly (and carefully) "down" the wall towards the east, until he leaves darkened area.

HP: 17/28 || AC 17 (touch 14, flat 13) || F/R/W +3/+7/+1 Init +8, Perception +11

Guys sorry for no posts during the last 4 days. My company decided to send me in the field, and in Nigeria internet is not really available in the rural areas. Just got home, tired as hell. Will go to the office in the morning and start regular posting then (10-12 hours from now). Cheers.

HP: 17/28 || AC 17 (touch 14, flat 13) || F/R/W +3/+7/+1 Init +8, Perception +11

Bryce tries to (very slowly) moves towards the east, with his back at the wall all the time. He is really hoping he will not stumble into a friend, or even worse an enemy in all this silent darkness.

HP: 17/28 || AC 17 (touch 14, flat 13) || F/R/W +3/+7/+1 Init +8, Perception +11

His back to the wall Bryce delays his action: "Can someone dispel this?"

HP: 17/28 || AC 17 (touch 14, flat 13) || F/R/W +3/+7/+1 Init +8, Perception +11

Thankful that the magnificent beast Chaandra stod in front of him, preventing any of the thugs reaching him directly, Bryce reloads his crossbow once again and takes careful aim at the ruffian in the back. He did not want to hurt any of his friends in the melee, so he has chosen a person behind those who were already engaged.

X-bow attack at N-15: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26
Dmg: 1d8 ⇒ 8

Crit.confirm: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24
Additional dmg: 1d8 ⇒ 4

HP: 17/28 || AC 17 (touch 14, flat 13) || F/R/W +3/+7/+1 Init +8, Perception +11

With practiced movements, still keeping his cool, Bryce reloads his crossbow and then fires ot once again carefully aiming towards the nearest enemy.

Crossbow attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23
Potential dmg: 1d8 ⇒ 2

HP: 17/28 || AC 17 (touch 14, flat 13) || F/R/W +3/+7/+1 Init +8, Perception +11

Bryce moves to N-19, making space for the front-line fighters while at the same time trying to help his friends thin out their enemies. His back to the wall he raises his crossbow and shoots at the nearest enemy (the one in N-17)

Crossbow attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12
Potential dmg: 1d8 ⇒ 4

HP: 17/28 || AC 17 (touch 14, flat 13) || F/R/W +3/+7/+1 Init +8, Perception +11

Really sorry for this huge delay - finally back at the place they have internet. Here's my ini...

Initiative: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13

And I'm group 2 obviously :-(

HP: 17/28 || AC 17 (touch 14, flat 13) || F/R/W +3/+7/+1 Init +8, Perception +11

Sorry for the delay - I'm here but travelling, posting from phone, will be with proper internet in about 12 hours from now.

HP: 17/28 || AC 17 (touch 14, flat 13) || F/R/W +3/+7/+1 Init +8, Perception +11

So you guys want the two of us us to move ahead or help you bagging the guards?

HP: 17/28 || AC 17 (touch 14, flat 13) || F/R/W +3/+7/+1 Init +8, Perception +11

"Relax damn it, it's us, who else in Nine Hells might it be?!" - Bryce does his best to sound casual, while striding the few steps between them, hoping to be able to cross the distance and catch them off guard from close quarters.

I already rolled a Bluff of 17 above in my previous post

HP: 17/28 || AC 17 (touch 14, flat 13) || F/R/W +3/+7/+1 Init +8, Perception +11

Honestly I was not sure, since there were voices for both options. For now I am OK with Trane's proposal - try to infiltrate with being ready to attack/silence the guards at any moment. So, who's infiltrating with Bryce? I'll make the necessary dice rolls here

Reluctantly, Bryce proceeds to don the cloak/hood with the eye symbol they found and prepares himself mentally for some potential fast talking. Once ready, he and the partner approaches the guards slowly, his weapon hidden and ready to be used at the moment's notice.

Disguise: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Bluff: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17

HP: 17/28 || AC 17 (touch 14, flat 13) || F/R/W +3/+7/+1 Init +8, Perception +11

After returning to the rest of the party and shared what he has spotted in the hallway (not forgetting to close the door slightly behind him), Bryce whispers back to Rafael: "What could we possibly achieve from infiltration, that we could not from interrogating them after they are subdued? Disguising and bluffing our way in might prove difficult, even with the cloaks. I do have some minor experience with that however, how bout the rest of you? And what if they ask us for the pass-code/watchword of a sorts? Then our surprise would be ruined"

HP: 17/28 || AC 17 (touch 14, flat 13) || F/R/W +3/+7/+1 Init +8, Perception +11

Bryce will try to detect if there are any traps or alarm mechanisms connected to the door. Only, and only if he is convinced that there are none, he will try to open the wooden door as silently as possible in order to be able to proceed further.

Perception (for traps): 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (5) + 12 = 17
Stealth: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (16) + 15 = 31

If neeeded Disable device: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (20) + 11 = 31

HP: 17/28 || AC 17 (touch 14, flat 13) || F/R/W +3/+7/+1 Init +8, Perception +11

Immediately upon entering the hallway Bryce signals the rest of the party to wait for him here, and proceeds to try and scout the southeastern tunnel.

Stealth: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (14) + 15 = 29
Perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (18) + 11 = 29 +2 more against traps

HP: 17/28 || AC 17 (touch 14, flat 13) || F/R/W +3/+7/+1 Init +8, Perception +11

Can we have a new map maybe, please? I am not sure as to where we should be going now?

HP: 17/28 || AC 17 (touch 14, flat 13) || F/R/W +3/+7/+1 Init +8, Perception +11

Finally decided on taking a level of rogue - can't make it "work" with wizard level so early on :-(

3rd level HP: 1d8 ⇒ 6

HP: 17/28 || AC 17 (touch 14, flat 13) || F/R/W +3/+7/+1 Init +8, Perception +11

"A bit too late for the gnoll Cananthir I'd say, but I do agree with a bit of rest. I'll take first watch." - Bryce states simply as he prepares his crossbow and wanders few meters deeper into the darkness searching for a good spot for a sentry.

Stealth: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (9) + 15 = 24 To hide properly in a good sentry spot
Perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (14) + 11 = 25 If needed during his watch

HP: 17/28 || AC 17 (touch 14, flat 13) || F/R/W +3/+7/+1 Init +8, Perception +11

Guys just FYI, posting this across all my PbP's here, still in the field (my 3rd day) returning to civilization tomorrow morning, will start posting afterwards (12-16 hours from now). Sorry for delay.

HP: 17/28 || AC 17 (touch 14, flat 13) || F/R/W +3/+7/+1 Init +8, Perception +11

@Story Master - Would it be OK if I take a level of wizard now (I know it is a bit too early, I need another rogue level at least for Arcane Trickster, but I feel like experimenting) or do I continue with rogue for now, and take Wizard levels later on, when it might make more sense in terms of story?

HP: 17/28 || AC 17 (touch 14, flat 13) || F/R/W +3/+7/+1 Init +8, Perception +11

Bryce listens intently gnoll's answers, trying very hard to discern if what the creature is saying is the truth.

Sense motive: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7

HP: 17/28 || AC 17 (touch 14, flat 13) || F/R/W +3/+7/+1 Init +8, Perception +11

Guys, I'm travelling now, and should be back in about 48 hours. Since I am going into a new region in Nigeria, I should have internet access, but I can not be certain of that. Just FYI - since I;m not sure whether and when I'll be able to post during next 48 hours, feel free to dmpc Bryce as needed. Also I need some time to level him up. Will try to do that also over the weekend. Cheers.

HP: 17/28 || AC 17 (touch 14, flat 13) || F/R/W +3/+7/+1 Init +8, Perception +11

Bryce readies an attack but waits for the gnoll's reaction. He is willing to let him surrender and leave in exchange for any information of this "Master".

Ready action (attack) if needed:

Crossbow attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6 Ooops :-(

HP: 17/28 || AC 17 (touch 14, flat 13) || F/R/W +3/+7/+1 Init +8, Perception +11

Seeing that gnolls are in complete disarray, Bryce allows himself one grim smile before taking another shot at his former target.

Crossbow attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23 Versus flat-footed enemy, I hope, for a sneak attack, if within range
Damage: 1d8 + 1d6 ⇒ (8) + (2) = 10

...before moving deeper inside the room in order to take cover. Originally he wanted to move towards the back, but he understood that the party is progressing towards him alerted by gnolls shouts, so he goes for the safety of the door at the other side.

Move to K17, after the shot

HP: 17/28 || AC 17 (touch 14, flat 13) || F/R/W +3/+7/+1 Init +8, Perception +11

Bryce nods at Trane's suggestion, takes careful aim and shoots his crossbow bolt at the nearest gnoll, before courageously running away behind Thrane, Cananthir and Chaandra.

Initiative: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 18

Crossbow attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15 Versus flat-footed enemy, I hope, for a sneak attack, if within range
Damage: 1d8 + 1d6 ⇒ (2) + (5) = 7

HP: 17/28 || AC 17 (touch 14, flat 13) || F/R/W +3/+7/+1 Init +8, Perception +11

Bryce listens to Trane's advice, making sure that he has his short sword at the ready. He declines the last potion saying "Some of you front line guys will need it more. If trouble comes I'll be either running or hiding." Or I'll be dead...

With a grim smile on his face, Bryce makes sure that everyone is ready, and then proceeds (together with Garm of he wishes so) to scout out the other tunnel.

Stealth: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (14) + 14 = 28
Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (9) + 10 = 19 +1 more vs. traps

HP: 17/28 || AC 17 (touch 14, flat 13) || F/R/W +3/+7/+1 Init +8, Perception +11

With a loud buzz in his ears, Bryce awakens and his senses slowly attune to the world around him. He was aware that Garm was speaking to him, even heard and recognized some of the words, but the meaning did not reach his brain. He shakes his head a few time, nods to his gnomish friend absent-mindedly and proceeds to wash himself (his face) with a bit of water.

Finally, with his senses back, he responds to Garm: "Yes, I'm OK. Thanks for the help...whomever it was. Unlucky yes..." - hi thoughts still a mess, he takes the proffered potion from Trane and proceeds to gulp it down. Potion of CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

Putting the empty flask back into his backpack, he asks "So, have we checked the room?" and then proceeds to inspect it even without waiting for the answer. Not finding anything else of notice, he simply shrugs shoulders, and makes a hand sign towards Trane, indicating his agreement, before proceeding carefully to the room towards the north.

Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (10) + 10 = 20

HP: 17/28 || AC 17 (touch 14, flat 13) || F/R/W +3/+7/+1 Init +8, Perception +11

Stabilization: 1d20 + 1 - 4 ⇒ (11) + 1 - 4 = 8

Bryce lies on the floor motionless, blood slowly trickling on the stone bellow...

HP: 17/28 || AC 17 (touch 14, flat 13) || F/R/W +3/+7/+1 Init +8, Perception +11

Bryce cries out and goes down, his ribs almost punctured by the vicious weapons of the bugbears.

At -4 HP

HP: 17/28 || AC 17 (touch 14, flat 13) || F/R/W +3/+7/+1 Init +8, Perception +11

Reeling from the vicious blows, Bryce thinks of falling back into the hallway but sees that it is too congested. So he does the only thing he can - he moves ahead, clearing the path for Cananthir and others. He weaves past the vicious morning stars, and stands behind Eric, before firing his crossbow.

Acrobatics: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17 To avoid bugbears Attack of opportunity, move at half speed, finish at Q10

X-bow attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20 Versus Bugbear #4
Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 6

HP: 17/28 || AC 17 (touch 14, flat 13) || F/R/W +3/+7/+1 Init +8, Perception +11

My bad Trane, sorry for not taking that into consideration.

HP: 17/28 || AC 17 (touch 14, flat 13) || F/R/W +3/+7/+1 Init +8, Perception +11

Initiative: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10

HP: 17/28 || AC 17 (touch 14, flat 13) || F/R/W +3/+7/+1 Init +8, Perception +11

Actually Trane, that Entangle might have been much more useful than another dog with us. Just imagine - small room, hallway, 6 of them, with no ranged weapons...

HP: 17/28 || AC 17 (touch 14, flat 13) || F/R/W +3/+7/+1 Init +8, Perception +11

Elmo: If I am staying here to protect the freed prisoners, I won't be needing these if you are going right back in there. Here... He digs into his pack and holds out the following items:

Alchemists Fire Flask (2)
Cure Light Wounds Potion (2)

Take these, I'm sure you can put them to good use.

I did not see anywhere that someone took this items from Elmo (please correct me if I am wrong). If so, Bryce will take 1 Flask of Alchemist Fire and 1 Potion of CLW (I'll write them down of my char. sheet).

Someone else should take the remaining stuff.

HP: 17/28 || AC 17 (touch 14, flat 13) || F/R/W +3/+7/+1 Init +8, Perception +11

Returning to the rest of the group, Bryce recounts what he saw in a low voice: "At the end of the hallway to the east, there's a small room with six bugbears inside. They're discussing something in their own language I could not understand. They are all armed with morning stars, and wearing leather armor and have wooden shields. There are no special features in the room. I do not think there are casters among them. No traps until there. You want to go there or me to scout the other (south) path?"

HP: 17/28 || AC 17 (touch 14, flat 13) || F/R/W +3/+7/+1 Init +8, Perception +11

GM:
I am guessing they are not speaking in common? And since Bryce does not understand goblin, he will try to notice whatever important features he can (how they are armed/armored, is there a "obvious" spellcaster of a sorts among them, any other special features in the room. Once done, he will slowly and carefully move back towards the rest of the group.

Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (9) + 10 = 19 +1 for traps
Stealth: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (16) + 14 = 30

HP: 17/28 || AC 17 (touch 14, flat 13) || F/R/W +3/+7/+1 Init +8, Perception +11

Trying to be much more cautious now, Bryce advances in front of the group, following Edgar's bird along the eastern corridor, using his newly found cloak to blend in with his surrounding as much as possible, while making sure he does not spring any more traps.

Stealth: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (11) + 14 = 25
Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (19) + 10 = 29 +1 for traps

HP: 17/28 || AC 17 (touch 14, flat 13) || F/R/W +3/+7/+1 Init +8, Perception +11

"Thank's to Velcore's gift and blessings of Iomedae, I feel much better. My wounds are healed, and although my pride is hurt I will learn something from it and be much more careful this time. But I will understand if you do not want me to scout ahead anymore. But should you trust me still, then I say we move back on. Now."

HP: 17/28 || AC 17 (touch 14, flat 13) || F/R/W +3/+7/+1 Init +8, Perception +11

Cursing his own inneptitude, Bryce hobbles back to the rest of the group. "If we leave now, we will face an even better prepared ambush and more traps than we could shake stick at. We should not retreat now. They will be ready for us."

This was Bryce IC - OOC I am fine with returning to Hommlet, but... :-(

Btw - there were no saves for the trap?

HP: 17/28 || AC 17 (touch 14, flat 13) || F/R/W +3/+7/+1 Init +8, Perception +11

Of course I have nothing against a stout gnome following me around, or even leading the way. If that particular gnome even had Some Guidance to cast beforehand :-( But maybe on the next level, eh? ;-)

HP: 17/28 || AC 17 (touch 14, flat 13) || F/R/W +3/+7/+1 Init +8, Perception +11

Seeing that majority of others seem to be OK with pressing on, Bryce tightens the loose ends of his newly acquired elven cloak, and moves stealthily into the darkness ahead, fully alert.

Stealth: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (19) + 14 = 33
Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (2) + 10 = 12 Additional +1 for traps

HP: 17/28 || AC 17 (touch 14, flat 13) || F/R/W +3/+7/+1 Init +8, Perception +11

Guys my sneaking in shadows and stealthy approach will not work if you go in with lights on your crossbows and whatnot. Can we say that you guys give Bryce 5-10 mins. in-game time for him to scout ahead alone (with no visible light sources) prior to all of you putting on the light-show and marching down? ;-) Is that OK?

HP: 17/28 || AC 17 (touch 14, flat 13) || F/R/W +3/+7/+1 Init +8, Perception +11

If the others are OK with that (Cananthir obviously is), Bryce would try to sneak down the stairs and determine what we're dealing with? Are you guys OK, or do you still want to retreat to Hommlet?

HP: 17/28 || AC 17 (touch 14, flat 13) || F/R/W +3/+7/+1 Init +8, Perception +11

Carefully retracing his steps back, Bryce whispers to his comrades: "There are voices down there. I do not think those we human voices that I heard..."

HP: 17/28 || AC 17 (touch 14, flat 13) || F/R/W +3/+7/+1 Init +8, Perception +11

I'm all for still exploring, but will go with whatever the majority decides

Seeing that Prisoners are well taken care of, Bryce goes back to the hallway and approaches the stairs leading down. Once there, he observes and listens carefully, trying to get any glimpse of what lies bellow.

Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (13) + 10 = 23

HP: 17/28 || AC 17 (touch 14, flat 13) || F/R/W +3/+7/+1 Init +8, Perception +11

While Cananthir is searching the room, Bryce assists Trane in freeing the prisoners. While doing so, Bryce tries to make sure that none of them is hiding anything on their person.

Bryce intends to frisk them quickly (he does not want to take anything, just to make sure there are no surprises), under the disguise of helping to set them free. Not sure if this should be Sleight of Hand or Perception check, so I'll roll both.

Sleight of hand: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21
Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (17) + 10 = 27

HP: 17/28 || AC 17 (touch 14, flat 13) || F/R/W +3/+7/+1 Init +8, Perception +11

Signaling to others to get ready, Bryce opens the door in one fast swing and steps aside freeing the road for Cannathir and/or Thrane and Chalindra (if needed).

HP: 17/28 || AC 17 (touch 14, flat 13) || F/R/W +3/+7/+1 Init +8, Perception +11

With a very obvious surprise on his face, Bryce reluctantly takes the proferred cloak: "Thanks...but this is...too much, I mean..." He was more than aware that an elven magic cloak was propably way more expensive than anything they found so far. Still, since he was party's "designated scout" it did make sense for him to have it, so he just briefly nods his grattitude once again, dons the cloak and says: "I'll do my best to use it good. Thanks."

Next, he approaches the door next to Cananthir (K-8) and inspects it closely. Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (11) + 10 = 21
