I'd play this too. It reminds me a bit of the Mushes I used to play back in the day. If there's enough interest to get it going, I can work on a character idea.

Dark Archive

I'm thinking either way, I may be too under-powered for this. Interesting idea though.

4d6 ⇒ (4, 5, 3, 3) = 15 12
4d6 ⇒ (4, 3, 4, 5) = 16 13
4d6 ⇒ (5, 1, 3, 6) = 15 14
4d6 ⇒ (4, 4, 4, 3) = 15 12
4d6 ⇒ (1, 3, 4, 6) = 14 13
4d6 ⇒ (6, 3, 6, 1) = 16 15

Seems like 20 point buy might be better.... :P

Dark Archive

Well, it's intriguing. I'll give you that. I really don't even know what questions to ask, as it all seems so vague at this point. But, I might be interested. :P

Dark Archive

When using Blood Transcription, does grimacing while drinking the blood negate the evil aspect of the spell?

Dark Archive

Just my opinion, but I don't see why not. Of course, discuss it with your GM before you commit to anything. But it seems reasonable to me.

Dark Archive

I've been thinking about this myself. I honestly can't think of a reason why it shouldn't be allowed.

Dark Archive

Patcher:
After careful consideration, I think I'm going to bow out on this one. I'm concerned that when life gets busy, which it does often enough, that I'd be spreading myself too thin. And I don't want the Kingmaker rp to suffer because of that. It looks like you have a big enough pool of excellent candidates here anyway. I may still pursue the other JR pbp as the posting rate seems a good bit slower over there. Just wanted you to know that this is no reflection on you, if I do decide to do that. And Kingmaker will definitely get priority, should I get selected.

Thanks for the opportunity.

Dark Archive

Dotting. Looking forward to the application process. It's quite fun, even if I don't wind up selected. And a great opportunity to flesh out a character a bit.

Dark Archive

Wow! You're beta roll is a 52 point buy! Impressive.

Dark Archive

I'm also interested in this AP and would love the opportunity to give it a try. I'm thinking of a half-elf witch that I started to work up for another game that never happened. I'll come back with a backstory later today.

In the meantime:

Roll 1:

2d6 + 6 ⇒ (2, 1) + 6 = 9
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 4) + 6 = 13
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 6) + 6 = 17
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 6) + 6 = 13
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 3) + 6 = 14
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (6, 3) + 6 = 15

Roll 2:

2d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 5) + 6 = 12
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 4) + 6 = 13
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 3) + 6 = 10
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 4) + 6 = 15
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 4) + 6 = 13
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 2) + 6 = 11

Roll 1 it is.

Well, the core book says:

"A character who has not yet acted during a combat is flat-footed, unable to react normally to the situation. A flat-footed character loses his Dexterity bonus to AC and Combat Manuever Defense (CMD) (if any) and cannot make attacks of opportunity."

So, technically, if they've acted, they're no longer flat-footed.

Dark Archive

Marking for interest. I'm currently auditioning for another game (I understand I'll know Thursday whether that is a go or not) and assuming that doesn't work out, I'd love to give this a go.

@ Broven: sorry due, was working from my smart phone, and didnt even read your post. Late night posting al;ways seems to make em miss something. Feel free to make a witch, i can create a different character.

No worries at all. I made up an alchemist instead (Ingle) and am already starting to like him. I like your take on the familiar as a brother thing. Should be amusing. :)

Dark Archive

Ok, I'll come up with something. Two witches would be a bit weird, I think.

Dark Archive

I'm marking for interest as well. I'm reading the Player's Guide now, and will come back with a concept tonight or tomorrow. I'm thinking at this point of doing a half-elven witch just because I really want to give that class a try. I created one for another game but it never got off the ground.

Dark Archive

I'm totally bummed to be missing out on this...

Dark Archive

Ok, I've just realized something. Once I reach 8th level, if I'm ever reduced below 0 hp while raging I'm instantly dead. I would loose 16 hp from ending my rage due to unconsciousness. So, I think I need the Diehard feat so that I can maintain my rage long enough to get some help. But since I took Guarded Life rage power at 2nd level, that pretty much borks Diehard. It turns the lethal damage into non-lethal (which Diehard does nothing for) and leaves me unconscious, ending my rage and killing me.

So, can I be a complete pain in the ass and change the rage power I picked? For what it's worth, I never actually used it. And I promise I'll try my best not to ask this kind of thing again. First time playing a barb, so I'm just figuring things out.

If you'd rather I didn't, no biggy. I'll just have to be careful once we get to higher levels.

Dark Archive

My problems with Maptools continue. Now when I try to launch it I get a message that Java can't create the virtual machine. If I launch the program from the website it works fine... Tried reinstalling Java to no avail. Oh well, at least I can use the web launcher to get it to run. Just a bit annoying.

Dark Archive

I noticed in the spell "Scout's Hike" it says "increases its base land speed by feet". I'm assuming 10 ft. at this point. Is that correct?

Dark Archive

Talsar wrote:
there is that. ok. I'll run though of maptools. and a few mock battles and what not. so for the rest of you. meet as normal.

That'll be cool. I could use that myself.

Dark Archive

So, I was thinking, since we are all from the same town, do we want to do something like telling the kind of things the others might know about their characters?

I'm assuming the town isn't so big that we wouldn't have at least heard of each other.

Or would you rather save that for the game, Talsar?

Martin,

The macro thing sounds cool. I have only messed around with maptools, never played a game with it. I will try to keep up.

I'm new to maptools also.

Looking forward to it.

Is there a way to contact the GM?

I'm sure Talsar will check here eventually.

Pathfinder's a good system. If you've played 3.5 you've already got most of it (though PF is superior in my opinion). There are some obvious changes like grapple, but it's the subtle differences that may trip you up at first. Basically, just don't assume anything works the same as 3.5 until you've read it in the book.

I don't want to be weird about it (I think it's awesome that you're getting your daughter into the hobby) but I feel inclined to ask about her maturity level. For example, are you wanting to avoid mature content in the game? Like no hitting on the barmaids, no swearing, things like that... Or is she old enough that that won't freak her (or you) out? I hope I don't seem out of line. I'm really not trying to be. But kids are different, and parents are different, so I'd like to get an idea of where all of that stands, if you know what I mean.

Dark Archive

I'm a human barbarian.

Dark Archive

I'm thinking I'd like to exchange my CHA and INT scores if it isn't a big deal. I want to eventually set him up for Improved Trip I think, and he'll never make it with an INT of 10.

Any objection?

Dark Archive

My info's been sent. I went with Human Barbarian (with the Invulnerable Rager archetype).

Dark Archive

Since we're all from Kassen, can you give a little background on it, or point me to it if it exists somewhere already. I'd like to get a bio together, but I don't actually know anything about the area.

Dark Archive

I'm interested too. What time zone are you in?

Dark Archive

Critical fumbles aren't RAW I don't think. But our group uses them too and I think they are great. We do them similar to a critical hit in that if you roll a 1 you have to roll again to confirm. It prevents them from happening too often.

Dark Archive

Wolfsnap,

Thanks for posting these! I spend the majority of my workday listening to Actual Play podcasts so I'm always looking for new ones. It also helps with the fact that my current group is all but broken up now, so these podcasts are the only way for me to scratch this particular itch right now.

Also, let me throw my vote in for hearing your game, Erik. I would love to hear how the Dev's play!

Dark Archive

Ah, Cleaves appears to be a fan made mega-dungeon, created by members of the message boards here.

PEACH is Please Examine And Critique Honestly

Not sure about Cleaves....

Dark Archive

Sweet. Hero Lab is the one must-have piece of software for gaming as far as I'm concerned. What a time saver!

Dark Archive

Also, the vacuum of space isn't technically cold at all. Only material can have a temperature. A true vacuum would have no temperature (which isn't the same as being very cold). Granted, space isn't a true vacuum, but the density of material is so slow that it effectively is.

When you're writing your post you'll see in the bottom left of the input screen a dropdown menu that says "post as". Thats where you change it, but you have to set up an alias first for it to show up in that menu. Hope that helps.

Dark Archive

And just to answer your question on his fly skill, the penalties are already included.
He has 17 ranks, +3 class skill, +0 Dex, and the -8 you mentioned for a total of +12.

Dark Archive

Another Crystal dragon bit: The text says they gain tremorsense at Juvenile, but the chart and stat block show it gaining this at Young. I suspect Young is correct, otherwise that is sort of a dead level for it.

Dark Archive

The Crystal Dragons in Bestiary 2 specifically call out gaining Tremorsense at the Young age category. Make of that what you will.

Dark Archive

Cloud Dragons: The Adult has Shield as a first level spell, but this has disappeared from the Ancient's stats where it was replaced with either Alter Winds or Erase.

Crystal Dragon: Same problem. It had Shield at Adult, but no longer has it at Ancient.

Dark Archive

Ah yes. That solves both of my questions. I never would have figured that out.

Thank you!

Dark Archive

Maybe some of you number crunchers can help me out here. I'm looking at the Adult Cloud Dragon's skills and I have two questions.

1. Does it have too many skills? It seems like it should only have 9, not 10.

2. On the swim skill I seem to be getting a wildly different number. They show +15. But isn't it +34 [+16 ranks, +3 class skill, +8 racial bonus, +7 STR]?

Thanks.
