This set of plot twists is similar to the others. I like the ideas of the cards and the design on the back of the card is cool. I am a bit left for words on the follow-up text on each card. Some are a real stretch to make them work with the main plot twist. They could have used only two examples on each card and expanded on them a bit. With limited space comes limited description. Over all, for a new DM they would be a good tool.
I really like the item card sets. I think they are a great addition to the game and can be very helpful. My only issue with these sets are that you get cards like "wheel" or "Peg-leg".... Ok, there can be some obscure magic items in the game but am I going to use them? As a player or DM? If all the items where more useful things it would be better. I would think about a 5 star rating then. But over all a nice product.
Today I got my pack of chase cards. This is the 9th set of cards from the series I have gotten. I'm not sure that these are very useful. If you set your maps up around the cards your going to use it would work but I'm not going to design a map or section of an adventure just to include the cards. I think they should have been a bit more generic and the three different types of terrain could have been expanded to maybe an 80 card deck.
I'm not sure an entire set of cards was needed for this. The idea is solid and the cards are comical at times but as a subscriber to the card collections I'm not sure I'll be using this set....
I like the idea of cards like these for the game. I have one other deck and designed items stats for all 52. this deck how ever makes me wonder what to do with some of the cards. Examples include "A Parrot","Food",A Raft" and "A Patch of Fur".
I guess I could make up something but how many times are you going to give a raft as an item.... IMHO.
I really like the maps in this folio. The colors and size of the maps make them a valuable addition to your game.
The only thing I wish that they had where text. Either, names of key places, buildings and roads or a numeric key for the map.
Going into this book I was wondering if it had what I, as a 30 vet of D&D, would want in a monster creation type tome.
Well, I was happliy suprised by how indepth it really goes. Mind you if your not into learning game mechanics your going to find it a very long and pretty dull read but they also warn you as the reader of this fact and they are right.
The mechanics discused in this book are very indepth and comprehensive. It deals with ground up creation of monsters in all settings and lists LOTS of verried options for any level of diffeculty and experience.
They also put a random monster generator appendix in the back of the book consisting of many charts.
I think the only thing I may say is a draw back of this system is the math you have to do to calculate DC for the creatures you create. It's something Enistine might enjoy looking at.
Over all a great book and one of the most worthwhile RPG suppliments I have bought in a long time!
