Mordenkainen's Disjunction

The spell is the best friend of the rat bastard DM.

I used it in my Age of Worms game; the result? The characters with good will saves lost nothing while the single character with a lousy will save lost ALL of his items.

Just a cruel cruel spell.

I'm actually happy to see high(ish) level adventures get some love. Both me and my players prefer playing in the 10-15 range; but it's so hard to find prewritten modules in this range.

My thanks goes out to the superstars for this treat!

Oh man,

I SO want to run this. You have my vote!

Shadow Bob Sneaky Pants

hmm, or is that the best character name ever?

Yeah, Kyuss is merely huge. Despite my figure's height, I fit him on a huge base.

However, I fully encourage you to stat him up to colossal; it will be more impressive and your players shouldn't know the difference. (you could really just keep his stats as they are and give him bigger space/reach)

Thanks guys.

I recently ordered 01 Blueprints: The Ruined Town PDF

However, when I attempt to personalize the file nothing happens. My other downloads appear to be working fine.

thanks for the help,

Wow, that is an awesome custom job. Did you modify an existing toy/figure? I especially like the green stuff worms and the custom sceptre/mace...SWEET! Guaranteed to be a scary sight for any party to run across.

I commissioned a sculptor to do some custom minis for my D&D campaigns, which included a Kyuss figure, 5 Overworms (WoTC pre-painted Purple Worms with green stuff modifications) and the Momma Carrion Crawler from the 'Kings of the Rift' adventure. If you like these, I could post links to all the other Aberrations I had sculpted (like Aboleths, Phaerimms, Cloaker Lord, Tendriculos, Remorhaz, a 'real' Purple Worm, etc.)

Please note: none of the minis were painted at the time these photos were taken and they were all (except the Overworms) crafted using wire armatures and Sculpy.

Wow, those are sweet!

I used a ring wraith figure to construct my Kyuss. I used apoxy putty to cover the arms with worms. His mace was crafted from a paint brush, apoxy putty, cardstock, and various spikes from other old minis.

Apart from the mace it was actually quite easy to create.

I think this is probably the best preview article they've done yet.

I agree. It's definitely the most candid to date.

I think I'm going to like this mechanic. Some people seem to have a kneejerk reaction to the potential size of negative hitpoints. However, this actually doesn't have a whole lot of impact; healing assumes a dying character is at 0 hp, thus the only difference between -1 and -60 is the ability for opponents to finish off the dying character. So while it may make it harder for this kind of thing to happen, I don't think that it is such a bad thing. The character is still in bad need of attention.

So you only stabilize on a 20 or when someone heals you in some way.

Three rolls of 1-10 and you die.

It seems once you go down you could be dead within 3 rounds regardless of how far negative you happen to be.

Exactly. I think I'm going to like this mechanic. It just seems odd to use negative hitpoints at all given the model.

I'm really interested to see how these new rules turn out in actual play.

I find it odd that there will really be no tactical advantage to not moving anymore (besides avoiding opportunity attacks).

This will not be the same game at all

But, its been said that you wont be confined to a given role "no-matter-what", and that its entirely possible to build a character that creeps into another role, or is built to accomplish a different role.

Exactly. The notion of "roles" is merely presented as a way to help inexperienced players and DMs craft effective parties/encounters. It in no way is meant to inhibit the choices of more experienced gamers.

I'll buy the books, give the rules a look over, and then my group will decide if we want to switch over to the new edition.

My gut tells me we will.

Top notch artwork; absolutely gorgeous.

One thing I'm always sorely looking for is high level adventures. My group enjoys all levels of play, and while there is an absolute wealth of low level adventures out there I find it extremely hard to track down high level stuff.

Please produce high level game mastery adventures. You'll absolutely secure my gaming dollars if you do.

I thought it was really funny, much funnier than the beholder one.

You heard it. One of my players suddenly decided to take a level in the above mentioned PrC after beating Zyrxog. I dont think there will be any more mind flayers in AoW, right?

Any suggestion to avoid this character's new and future class abilities are completely useless in AoW and therefore ruin his fun?

Just be upfront with the player and let him know that it would be a poor decision.

They Stole Hitler's Brain

Wow, what to say about that gem...

Heart of Darkness -- Joseph Conrad
The Outsider -- Albert Camus
Candide -- Voltaire
Hamlet -- William Shakespeare
Dr Faustus -- Christopher Marlowe
Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man -- James Joyce
5th Business -- Robertson Davies

Dundjinni is MAC-compatible, it does fantastic dungeons, great battlemaps and some town stuff with user created artwork, but is somewhat lacking in the huge overland area (although there is some good graphics available from the user community to somewhat address the issue).
I use it and love it, easy to learn with alot of room for customization and detail work.
Here is a link to the Gallery Page, you can check out some of the maps it can produce.

FH

Thanks Fake Healer. I was looking for something to craft overland maps with, but I may very well check Dunjinni out; it looks pretty slick.

does anybody know of good mac-compatible mapping software? (doesn't have to be cheap or free)

I really like this idea, especially rolling touch AC into Reflex. It simplifies at the same time it makes rogueish classes actively improve at evading such attacks; very cool.

Yeah, Moosehead is a great one.

Alexander Keith's Pale Ale, brewed in Nova Scotia.

A) I'm ready for a new system and await the new one with great anticipation. If it sucks, I I'll go back to 3.5

I've had no real investment in the Great Wheel, so I have to say I like what I see. Simplifying the Wheel with something that is still interesting and full of potential is good in my book. I never liked the organization based on alignment, because I hate the alignment system.

If they do indeed get rid of alignment, I'll be a very happy DM.

A nice clean bold style; you should be very proud.

The artwork in the Thassilon article was absolutely gorgeous. I definitely want to see more art in this vein.

I love the boggards. You guys have a real talent for making humanoid races really stick out from one another.

I just love it!

I'm not saying that these illustrators are bad at what they do, just that I find the styles disconnecting and mood breaking in comparison to the adventure itself.

Got to give Black Baron props for his superior character build. If I had thought of getting a potion of enlarge potion, we could have had quite the fight. Of course, the first time you disarmed me I would have been screwed since I didn't have your foresight to bring a spare. Great arena fighter, man. Good job!

Thanks, Steve. I also had a good run of luck. Both Spartacus and Garash scared the hell out of me. Had a couple of crucial rolls gone otherwise, the tide would definitely have shifted.

I look forward to doing this agin.

Cheers,

I for one am very excited about 4th edition. What little information they have released seems really cool to me.

I won't knock it until I play it.

I am also dying to know more about these deities; Pharasma in particular.

You guys should put out a book detailing all of these deities in detail.

I just hope you picked up enough XP to gain the dodge feat

Well, he certainly has toughness already...

I hand out xp at the end of the session, or if they have just wrapped up the end of an adventure.

I do this to reduce the amount of time spent on advancement.

Do you think that it would be better, then, if the description was changed from this:

...you may immediately make an additional melee attack against that foe with your highest attack bonus and gain an additional +4 on the attack roll...

To this:
...you may take an attack of opportunity against that foe with an additional +4 on the attack roll...

?

Yeah, that sounds good to me.

I like it, but I beleive it should eat up your attack of opportunity (or rather one of them given the prerequisite). Otherwise I like it; kind of like a sinister cleave.

I have a suggestion for a pack of Item Cards:

Clerics of the Pathfinder Chronicles

It would contain a Holy Symbol, Favored Weapon, and Cleric's Vestments for all 20 of the core deities of the Pathfinder Chronicles campaign setting.

I would have to be 60 cards instead of the normal 54, but that's only a difference of 6 cards.

That is an awesome idea! I would buy that up in an instant.

M

Also, if he decides to drop down and use his mount as cover he won't be able to attack this round.

I would buy it. It's always seemed a shame to keep all that gorgeous art to myself. Trying to cover the text and show the players the art either ends in spoilers or an all-too-quick glance that doesn't do the art justice.
