Geser:
Geser wrote:
I was referring to my own holy book--Geser carries a book of the teachings of Iomidae--I mentioned going through it for answers. Specifically, what the idol might be and what a non-magic user might do if he comes across it.
Geser approaches Asan wherever he finds him, hopefully in a more secluded area.
"Friend Asan, I would like to speak when you have a moment. In a very short time, I have realized that we work with a worthy group--but you, above all the others, strike me as the one most like myself. You seek spiritual and moral truth, and you seem to take it quite seriously. I have misgivings about our new...ally? The one called Blackroot. Do you trust him? Do you feel it is wise for him to have possession of that dark idol we discovered?"
Geser finds Asans standing still towards the edge of town on a low hill, looking back at the small amount of activity, hands resting behind his back.
He nods at Geser's comments.
"You are correct. I was indeed set here on a journey of enlightenment by the great Mother, and it is a matter not to be taken lightly. That is why I have come here to consider the decision ahead."
He frowns, realizing he may be coming of more harshly than he intended.
"I too have some...concerns about the small priest. Although his intentions seem good, how can one know in such a short time? A persons actions must be judged over time, their actions must be savored like a long meal, gathering each taste, and letting it sit on the tongue. Only once the meal is truly over and long in your belly can you know if it was good."
Smiling somewhat, he continues;
"It is good to have companions with which to discuss these things. I think that if we do all decide to go on this trip to The Golden Land, he Blackroot must be watched, and then we will know. Though he is indeed powerful, if his intentions prove to be for ill...I will do what must be done, whatever that may be. "
"But we can talk more of that on the way back to the inn. It has occured to me that I have dues, and I would like a hot meal before long."

Actually, now that I think about it...that (Cleric, cloistered or otherwise)(although I'd rather some kind of Paly) may fit with Asan's concept, if that is an option. Wouldn't want one of our heavy hitters to be thrown off kilter.
also, DainGM..thank you for the clarification RE:setting/themes. The pulp adventure is what I was looking for...with fantasy thrown in of course. Seems like my worries were for naught.

RE: Plans and thoughts
In character, Asan could go either way. He's inclined to stay with the group, as he sees some providence in the varied folk coming together, but as willing as he is to go to Osirion, I think he'd rather see more of the town Beacon itself and help it develop in a more direct way. My concern as a player is that it seems you're offering two types of play...at least at this point. I'm a bit worried that if the party goes to Osirion it's going to be a more "magicky" world than I signed on for. One of the big appeals to me was the low magic-ness of the setting. I'm not saying I couldn't adjust if that's the consensus, but I thought I should mention it. Now I could also be wrong about this depiction, and that's fine too.

Winding back only slightly...
Nodding to Stefan,
"All turned out well in the end. In that none of us were lost. It is good to think on the events that transpired and how we can be better, though."
Then looking to Pollux,
"Teamwork indeed. I know that I myself let my emotions get the better of me when clearer heads should have prevailed. I hope not to repeat such a thing."

Asan, again quiet, listens carefully to everyone say their piece.
"Indeed. The idol is something of a mystery and should be handled carefully. I have heard, however, that sometimes...and again, I have no proof...but sometimes destroying the thing is just what it wants."
To all;
"With regards to the young Osiriani girl...I suspect Geser is right. A certain amount of... caution is to be expected. One need only look at the condition we found the women in."
And to the captain;
"I apologise for holding my tongue for so long, but oftentimes I find it is better to think things through thoroughly before acting. The many times I rushed into action have taught me valuable lessons.I too am amenable to the way of distributing the found wealth. As well, If this group is going to Osirion, I too will go. There is something to this band of folk, and I was led here with a purpose. I intend to see it through."

Asan stands back observing in interchange between his party and the captives. The olive skin girl seems to be "in charge" and he finds that somewhat curious. Considering further though, he remebers how in in times of crisis, often someone must be a "rock" and it is clearly her.
Looking to the capitives, he speaks in a clear, calm voice.
"My companions and I will have you out of these cages in no time. Stand back if you would, please."
Then moving to Hack, he puts his hand on the larger man's shoulder and speaks to everyone.
"The keys could be anywhere on this ship. The cages are of no use to us..our priority should be getting these folk free as soon as possible. We would have them out much faster if Hack employed his axe on the lock, I think."

Then to John,
"The sounds from the ship are indeed curious. Did you come across those that were to be sacrificed? I suspect, although I have not seen of course, that perhaps these rogues have more slaves in the ship. It seems logical that they would have more sacrifices in the case of an attack by such as we...or if their current crop seemed unworthy for whatever reason."

He watched the slight bob of the chunks of fish as they dipped below the surface and the little flat beans rushed in to fill the space. It was like a dance, and dipping his spoon in to take a taste of the meal, he imagined the speech of the others around him a song.
"I'd like to try a bit of that sake if there's enough." he said after a few spoonfuls of the spicy soup.
Settling into a seat next to Khal, he listened to the interchange between the crew members. It was interesting to hear their ease with one another, despite their various backgrounds. I wonder if we new travelers will become that close. As much as he felt his mission was not up to him, but the Mother, he hoped so.
When the priest spoke of the coming trouble, a chill passed over Asan, as if he had heard those words before, in a dream, when he was much younger.
Nodding to the priest,
"Yes, who can say what tomorrow brings. We can only open our eyes and see, fix our ears and listen, steele our souls and prepare"
When Taissa recalled her encounter with the crow on the streets of beacon, Asan looked over to her and Daya. Seeing Kit, the gryphon, for the first time he fixed his eyes on the creature, studying its form and colors. Still watching the hybrid beast, he commented to both the priest and Taissa.
"You are quite correct, seer. Taissa is blessed. Would that all men knew the languages of the beasts, we would be that much closer to enlightenment. On a more practical level, I expect that ability will prove quite useful as Taissa could gain knowledge from the creatures native to our destination."
He smiled at Taissa, finally breaking from his fugue that Kit brought on, and raised his cup.

Asan seemed lost. He sat away from the others, simply listening, taking in everyone's attitudes. As a start, he thought, it has been a good one. A bit of cold, but it is warm down here. Not only from the fire, but everyone seemed to be very friendly and, considering the "mission" in good spirits as well. He wondered again about providence...the Mother bringing him this far. Another sign he was on the right path.
Coming to sit with the others, he pulled his blanket back, as he was finding himself much more comfortable.
Looking to whoever was closest, he commented,
"Well, I smell warm food, and Khal has said there is drink as well...what are we serving tonight?"

Asan musters a weak smile through slightly chattering teeth.
"It seems I didn't prepare myself quite as well as I should have. You are too kind as to my being useful. I think it may be some time before I can truly be called a sailor."
He nods to Khal,
"Yes, food and drink below would be much appreciated. Perhaps while there you can tell me about your homeland, no?"

Asan walks about the deck smiling and observing the others. After a while he begins to feel the chill, and bundles up further, after taking NonLethal:1d6 ⇒ 2 a bit too much of the cold.

Asan has no experience on a ship other than as a passenger, but he will assist with watching for danger. On this first part of the voyage, he probably talks very little unless directly asked a question. He's "taking it all in".
Perception:1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11
...and it appears he is too distracted by the new experience to offer too much help.

Asan notices the conversation between Taissa and her companion Daya. He watches for moment or two, and then smiles to himself, still amazed at the gift these two share.
"If I may, Taissa...I know you have just met me, so take my thoughts for what they are, that of a stranger..But I think this should not concern overmuch. I believe the captain said his destination was less than a day's travel. I know it is probably a bit more by land, but should you or Daya find the trip not to your liking, you would hardly be inconvenienced overmuch. Perhaps a day back to town? I must admit my advice is not entirely unbiased though. You two are a blessing and a wonder to me. I would relish the chance to interact with you two further."
The last bits of his speech are stilted and awkward, as if he isn't quite sure of his phrasing.

Asan regards the Captain with clear dark eyes, and straightened face, showing the seriousness of what he is about to say.
Again I cannot speak for the others, but I would say this. I will join you, for even the possibility that innocents...true innocents are to be sacrificed, or have their will taken from them, is something that must be stopped. I would add this though; I would prefer sound minds and clear thinking in this. Were it to in fact be legend and we come upon some folk merely enacting some harmless ritual, it would be just as foul."
Looking over to Ren as well, he then turns back to the group, lightening a bit.
"It is fortuitous that you have come along. For with souls such as these here, I think sitting still would do us little good. I for one would like to see more of the coast at the very least. If, after investigation, we uncover some foul play...well then...then perhaps we have a real adventure, no?"
