Hey Jubal, thanks for running a great game. I'm sorry that it's petered out, but it seems like (despite your efforts to keep up momentum) we've hit "real life" slowdowns for too much of the party.

I'd be happy to game again with any of yall in the future.

Cheers!

Oy. So sorry.

I hope you have enough of a cushion to take care of yourself while you look, and that you find something good before too long.

I'm at 19/49. I've updated my stats on Jubal's sheet.

Uuuugh. So sorry to hear. Good luck!

I think, sadly, maybe we are petering out. I'm certainly happy to keep going–and know I've sometimes been the source of delays–but I'd love to get the pace back if we're going to continue.

On my end, I was thinking I was waiting for folks to post if they could heal or not...but I just posted in Gameplay to make that explicit.

Sheet Half-elf Rogue (Swashbuckler) 42/42 HP 16 AC 10.18.14.8.12.16 DEX,INT 2x:Init+7 P.Per 14, Insight 14, Invest 9 darkvision 2x:initiative, stealth, charmed, ∅:sleep

Argyri turns to her companions. "At this point, I'm feeling pretty beat up. Can anyone heal me more? If not, I wonder if it's time for us to find a hole to hide in and grab a rest."

Sheet Half-elf Rogue (Swashbuckler) 42/42 HP 16 AC 10.18.14.8.12.16 DEX,INT 2x:Init+7 P.Per 14, Insight 14, Invest 9 darkvision 2x:initiative, stealth, charmed, ∅:sleep

proposed operating procedure:
1. Argyri and Tarn in front, with Tarn aiding Argyri's perception.
2. Argyri disarming traps (getting aided in that as well, if possible–can someone Aid Disarm if they don't have Proficiency?)
3. Anytime Agyri drops below 25 HP, we either heal her or stop for the night.

OOof, I see I missed a save while I was away.

Dex save: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11 Lol. BTW that and the acid pit, I was at zero before Badger healed me. Now I'm at 19/42. Prolly worth another, unless we're getting near to out...in which case maybe we make camp for the night?

I'll start rolling Perception with advantage, assuming someone is staying up with me, aiding me in looking.

Argyri scratches her head, "Hmmm, Tarn, you and me should make a good team up here. You see anything I've missed?"

Perception(adv): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16Perception(adv): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27 Looks like I got a LOT of aid from Tarn here.

"Yeeesh! Whoever built this place really likes traps. See that big stone, poised to drop on whoever opens this door? One sec."

Thieves's Tools: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13

With a few deft moves, she disarms the trap. "I guess going forward we'd better have two of us up front looking for traps, in case I miss one. And Kwin's handy pole. For now though...", Argyri listens at the door, and checks it for further traps.

Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18

If it's OK, she motions everyone close and (with Dagger of Warning in hand) tries to open the door.

Sorry, couldn't help myself.

Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16
Investigation: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (6) - 1 = 5

Jubal, the spoiler says AND. Does one person need to get a 16 in both to open it? Could be me getting the Perception and someone else Investigatin'? What (if anything) do I catch from beating just the Perception DC?

Sheet Half-elf Rogue (Swashbuckler) 42/42 HP 16 AC 10.18.14.8.12.16 DEX,INT 2x:Init+7 P.Per 14, Insight 14, Invest 9 darkvision 2x:initiative, stealth, charmed, ∅:sleep

"Oooof! Hold on a sec."

Athletics: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19

Argyri climbs out of the pit, doing a flip at the end to cover for her embarrassment as she brushes the acidic slime off of her clothing and out of her hair.

"Now that is an occupational hazard. I swear, how do they get work done down here?

"Any of you have a ten foot pole? Or a healing spell to spare? That smarted."

HP 24 = 42-18
.
Kwin, I think I can also use a healing potion here, if you're tight on spells.

Oh! I'm glad I asked...and that dagger has already paid for itself!
.
Retconning...

Argyri notes the specters just in time, thanks to her new magic dagger. She leaps forward, thrusting at the nearer one with both her magic rapier and her magic dagger.

Rapier: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12 Damage: 1d8 + 5 + 3d6 ⇒ (2) + 5 + (1, 4, 6) = 18
Dagger: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16 Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 1

Oh! I think I just realized uncanny dodge should work vs the specter too, in which case...I'm at HP 33/42.

Sheet Half-elf Rogue (Swashbuckler) 42/42 HP 16 AC 10.18.14.8.12.16 DEX,INT 2x:Init+7 P.Per 14, Insight 14, Invest 9 darkvision 2x:initiative, stealth, charmed, ∅:sleep

After she catches her breath and a bit of color comes back into her skin, she says, "Oh! This is like this one issue of Dyzziq the Dashing: Into the Crypt. There was a crafty ghost that kept jumping out of the floor or walls to attack them. At first they spread out, but then it would go after them one at a time. Then Dyzziq told them all to huddle close and walk slowly, so they were ready to attack the ghost anytime it emerged."

I should heal before going further. Kwin, your call if you have spells to spare. Maybe best if I use a potion?.
.
Either way, I recommend we walk tight together, always readying an action to attack if one pops out.

Argyri gasps as she feels the lifeforce sucked out of her. "What the f&^k was that??"

Jubal, I'm still learning how Dagger of Warning works. I know it says "you and any of your companions within 30 feet of you can't be surprised". What does that mean in practice? Does it apply here, or no?

I'm fine with that room, or any we think is out of the way. Just want to make sure they're tied (hands and feet) and out of each others' reach.

After carefully tying up the prisoners, Argyri asks, "Ready, everyone?"

When she gets a thumbs up, she goes to listen at the door, and check it for traps. Then, if all seems clear, she starts to quietly lead the way down, staying a bit ahead of her noisier comrades.

I don't think we want to cross back to the boat more times than we have to (given the chance of waking more skellies).

I vote we tie both of them up here.

Argyri arches an eyebrow at Odium. "Think carefully now, Odium. It's time to tell us everything you know about the Winding Way. Have you been down there? Be generous and truthful with what you know right now–be it what you've witnessed, or what you've merely heard–and we'll let you wait, tied up safely here, while we clear it out. Seeing everyone else nod, Argyri leads the way back up the stairs, looking to block the door and see if they can get away with recuperating for a bit, before pressing on.

Hey gang, any objection / counter-argument to holing up for an hour to rest and recover HD?

If not, where? Safest might be to just go right back up the stairs we just fought our way down...but I suppose we could also check one of the doors off of this room, and see if it leads to a room where we think we could barracade the door...I just know I might well drop the next time something hits me.

Thoughts?

"Oooof!" Argyri growns as she gets smacked by the cleric's magic

Arygri looks around, and hears the eerie quiet, and says, "Hey, I think this is the first moment since we got on those stairs when we've had a chance to pause...and unless someone has major healing magic to offer, I could really use a breather. I'm pretty wrecked right now, and I bet Tarn's in even rougher shape.

"What do yall think of us finding a defensible spot–back up the stairs, or maybe a side room here–and give ourselves a chance to rest up before we face whoever's next?"

HP 17-8 = only 9 HP left

OK, thanks, that helps. I appreciate theater of the mind, and think it works better for 5e than for Pathfinder, but I also find complex situations difficult for me to grok in TotM. You helped me make sense of this one, I think.

One clarifying question, as a Swashbuckler I now have,

You also gain an additional way to use your Sneak Attack; you don’t need advantage on the attack roll to use your Sneak Attack against a creature if you are within 5 feet of it, no other creatures are within 5 feet of you, and you don’t have disadvantage on the attack roll. All the other rules for Sneak Attack still apply to you.

...would that give me sneak against the cleric? (Sounds like yes, as long as no one else comes up beside me)

I shoulda clarified, but I *did* check the map link before I asked for clarification. Maybe it's an issue on my end, but I don't see anyone but Tarn on the map. No foes, and no one else in the party. (Here's a screenshot of what I see)

Can others see us and our foe(s) on the map? If so, maybe describe the setting to me...or even better, share a screenshot!

Big picture, if Argyri can see or hear combat going on somewhere, she'll join it (and try to do so in a way that gets her sneak attack). Beyond that, I'm not sure I understand enough right now to describe in more detail.

Cheers,
