Female Human Commoner 1

Sounds like a plan to me! I can't wait to get back into Anlessa's shoes. Cheers to you for making it to top 4, Bob, you deserve the time to unwind.

Female Human Commoner 1

Anlessa quirks an eyebrow at Alyona, rolling her eyes after a moment passes. "Alanar's gettin' it," she remarks, thumbing over in here direction. "Thinkin' I'd like t' pick something like that too." Admittedly, it's not her first choice, but it probably sounds better than make everyone care or something like that.

Female Human Commoner 1

"Meep." Anlessa intones quietly, stopping a bit as Vesix steps into her view. Her appearance is striking to the young girl, both for it's alien nature, and despite her sharing a few physical qualities with her former mentor she is still taken aback. Swallowing down any reservations, though, she steps forward and offers a half bow, trying to be at least a bit formal - an act immediately undone by how she reaches up and attempts to bop Alanar on the back of his head. "Rude an' unkind, wasin' you are." She laughs a bit, before turning to face the instructor once more as she tries to ignore her own comments that sit on the tip of her tongue.

"Anlessa Kowan," she introduces with a cheerful tone. It's a bit forced, definitely, but she continues on anyway. "Nicein' meetin' you here." A quick glance is offered towards the others, taking in their reactions. She can't quite think of anything to say, brow furrowed as she studies the strange woman in front of her, curiosity possibly bordering on rudeness of her own as she stares.

Female Human Commoner 1

"Thesbian?" Anlessa repeats outloud, finally a bit more focused, head out of the clouds but still looking rather confused as she moves up with the others. She doesn't say the word properly, in that way she doesn't say a lot of words properly. It would seem a lot of the last few minutes might have come off as gibberish to her, prompting the puzzled look that sits across her face. "On about what, then? Not gettin' it," she remarks, hands falling to her side as she considers the room and the man a bit more critically than she had anything before.

Still, she can't help but wave, the momentary analytical thought passing back into her usual excited demeanour as a smile spreads across her lips. Looking over to Alyona, then Alanar, her smirk widens, and she shakes her head. "All wrong, you've got it," she says over to the Ifrit. "Wasin' the teacher got it right, cold an' all!"

She giggles at her own joke, before offering an apologetic look over towards Alyona - it's just a joke! Try not to get so upset this time, please? Feeling all to amused with herself, Anlessa finally relaxes a bit more, eyes beginning to wander around the room again.

Female Human Commoner 1

As she hops out of the carriage, it's easy to tell just how excited Anlessa really is. Having been too enthralled with the first sights of the school to join much in the joking of others, as soon as her feet hit the ground, she's back to looking around, an expression of pure wonderment seated across her face.

"Hopin' to be gettin' a tour of a sort?" the runaway asks, looking over to Hokuto as she moves to the edge of the group - a bit away, so she can look around better, but not far enough to earn the ire of their recruiter. She'd seen a few rather fantastic things in her travels with Lianrix, but this was far and beyond anything she had ever set foot on. She watchse back to where the mockingfey that were pointed out earlier are, a wide smile on her face.

Turning back to the statue, her head gradually cranes upwards as she looks it over, hands moving to her hips as lips quirk side to side. "One mighty sorta guardian, I'm guessin t' guess," she remarks, head canting to the side a bit. "So... so neat!" A childish giggle follows before she moves closer to the statue, continuing to inspect it with intense curiosity.

Female Human Commoner 1

Anlessa takes her pendant and holds it up eye level, examining even as she rubs her side, still feeling the linger sting of her earlier injuries even despite the healing her had received. The pendant is met with fascination - typically, this looked like the kind of trinket Anlessa and Lianrix likely would've sold to help fund their travels, discovered in a dusty abandoned chest on the side of the road or bartered for in exchange for their help with any number of things.

"Thakin' for the helpin' an' all," she murmurs to Hokuto, not keeping eye contact with her as she sets the pendant around her neck. She feels bad for her part in the group's needed rescue. But there's nothing to be done about it now.

"Three?" she repeats, looking over at Alyona with a bit of disbelief. A look of consternation forms on her face, looking down at her hand as she mouths words and raises fingers, as if trying to reconcile this fact herself - this was not a field she was terribly well versed in. Eventually she furrows her brow and shakes her head annoyingly.

"So, was kinda in the school but kinda not?" She scratches the side of her head, going over t o herself what Hokuto had said. "Or- was once the school?" She lets out a frustrated sigh, flopping back down into a seat. "Well, I'll be gettin' t' understand soon enough, sure t' bet."

Female Human Commoner 1

Having played a Cathari in Robert's past games, it amuses me to no end to see them likened to the Time Lords, though the version I played was a bit different. Still, it's kind of funny to think that I ended up playing the one good Cathari (...sort of. Arguably. Maybe.) of all the ones we encountered. Does that mean Mizu was The Doctor, Bob? :D

As for my Christmas present, I'm going to pick a Harrowing.

Pick a card, any card!: 1d54 ⇒ 49

Looks like I drew The Unicorn!

Female Human Commoner 1

Shouting and grunting, Anlessa stumbles back and away, wincing as she looks over to Taeo, then to Alyona. "Tch! But, I..." She trails off, holding a hand at her side. Taeo's right, between the spider bites, the skull, and just- everything, she was in no position to be on the front line of this fight, as much as she wanted to be.

It's with resignation that she slides back a step, eyes half lidded as she watches the others, hoping for the best. "Only if'in you can get all the revenge for me!" because seriously, that thing hurt.

-----------
Move Action: 5ft step north

Sorry getting such a short post out took so long! Been rather busy this week, very unexpectedly.

Female Human Commoner 1

Ah, my mistake. I thought I had to be in range of Alyona. Not that it matters, it figures that the AoO gets me. Alas, at least Anlessa'll have some interesting scars to talk about in a few years.

Female Human Commoner 1

"Unsurprisingly. I don't think so much," Anlessa replies with a bit of a laugh. "Wasin' not spider bit, I could help more," she replies, shaking her head a bit as she follows after Alonya. "Not thinkin' you wrong, though. Teamwork an' all that, not the rest." As if she feels the need to clarify. Still, she's ready to help the princess as best as she can. "Hit it just in the whites of it's... skull eye hole thingers, that'll get it packin'!" Perhaps a bit of an inapporpriate time for jokes, but she can't help herself.

----------------------------

Move Action: moving 2sq north of the skull, also probably provoking an AoO

Readying an action to Aid Another on Alyona's next attack as well

Female Human Commoner 1

"Got no sense a' adventure!" Anlessa proclaims, looking from the skull to the "girl" down the hall. She roll her shoulders, trying to shake herself of the weakness she feels. "Not that mine's all an' rarin' to go at the moment, but still," she teases, stepping up just behind Alyona. She takes what resembles a defensive stance, ready to strike anything that comes moves near them. "Wasn't thinkin' to expect anythin' like this, I have t' admit, though..."

---------------

5ft step west
Ready standard action to attack anything approaching Anlessa, blah blah. She'll hit things more in the future when she's not poisoned and lacking a weapon, I promise!

Female Human Commoner 1

"Stop fightin'?" Anlessa sounds confused, head canting to the side as she observes the others. She looks confused, looking around the room and at everyone lining up. She opens her mouth to speak up, but instead just keeps quiet, moving up to join the others. She seems uneasy about this, eyes scanning the darkness around them.

----------------
Move Action - 6sq west (just behind Taeo)

That's really it for this round. I suppose her standard action will be to ready an attack in case anything tries to ambush them.

Female Human Commoner 1

She would probably would consider it if it wasn't for the spider venom. :p

Female Human Commoner 1

"Huh. The light..." Anlessa says simply, slinking a bit closer to it. She doesn't say anything, instead looking for someone else she can assist; she feels much to drained to do much of anything on her own at the moment.

-----------
Same deal as last turn - ready an action to aid another on any attacks made around Anlessa.

Female Human Commoner 1

Anlessa looks more than a little nonplussed about the appearance of the skeletons, groaning as others shout out to Alanar. "Oh, yay. Needin' this in my life right now, clearly...," she grumbles, a hand lenched into a fist. With a groan, she pushes herself off of Shen Hua's shoulder, offering the girl a thankful nod. "Thinkin' I can't just kick these ones," she notes, eyes narrowing as she watches the skeletons. Maybe, but she can at least help the others...

-------------

Move 3sq west
Anlessa will hold the rest of her action, and aid another who acts after her in attacking (based on who hasn't posted yet, likely Erik or Deriku)

Female Human Commoner 1

"Never again to a place like this comin'," Anlessa remarks, leaning against Shen Hua. For all her fury, energy, and bravado earlier, she looks and feels just absolutely drained. "Notin' that I had much of a choice this time, but well an' well be avoidin' again."

She takes a deep breath, offering an appreciative smile to Shen Hua. "Come on, faster the better," she remarks, sounding more pleading than agitated - after that bite, she wants out.

Female Human Commoner 1

I'm out of town until Saturday. I may get a post or two in, but I'm not counting on it, so just assume that Anlessa is grumbling to herself while Shen Hua helps her walk for the moment. I'll probably make a post to that effect if I have time anyway.

Female Human Commoner 1

Fort Save vs. Spider Poison (DC 10) The First: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5---> Fail
Fort Save vs. Spider Poison (DC 10) The Second: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6---> Fail

Remember how I said I used up all my good rolls on that crit? Yeah.

Female Human Commoner 1

"Ugh," Anlessa groans, reaching down to rub at her leg. "Feelin' not so good, thinkin' from the bite," she remarks, eyes narrowed as she stares at the spider's body again.

It sounds like they're still dleaing with one to the south, so she moves as quickly as she can, trying not to pay much mind to the bite. Unwilling to get up close and personal to handle another spider, though, she stands ready in case more appear.

-----------------------------

Move: move 4 sqs. south
Standard: Ready an action: Attack any spiders that come near (because that seems to be working for her)

Fort save vs. Spider venom (DC10): 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6 -> Fail

Female Human Commoner 1

I probably won't have time to dedicate to my turn until tonight; if everyone else in my group posts before then, feel free to delay Anlessa into the second group rather than have me hold things up.

Female Human Commoner 1

"Ow!" Anlessa shouts as the spider bites into her, taking a half step back. "Messin' with me an' messin with others kind, that's only goin' t' get you smashed!" Eyes narrowed, and now seemingly rightly pissed, she kicks at the spider again. It worked last time, why not this time?

-----------

Kick! (Unarmed strike): 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22
>> Critical hit confirmation: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21
>>> Damage: 2d3 ⇒ (2, 1) = 3

That is one of the lamest critical hits ever. That's probably my entire pool of good rolls for a while too T_T

Also, for future reference, should I include the spider's AoO in my post? Sorry, still new to the whole PbP thing.

Female Human Commoner 1

Thanks. I had forgotten :|

Female Human Commoner 1

"Ugh. Didin' anyone place bets on gross stuff in here? 'Cause I think this's a winner," Anlessa remarks, wrinkling her nose as she looks behind her at the spider. Teeth grit together as she looks around the room in quick fashion for something to defend herself with, but is jostled back to the matter at hand when Shen Hua grabs her arm. Surprised, Anlessa looks back at the Tian girl, then at the spider.

Taking a deep breath, she straightens her posture and nods to herself. "If'in anyone has another one of those bones tucked away, or somethin' more solid, we could use it back here right quick like," she says, swallowing down a bit of fear as she steps forward, meaning to get between the spider and Shen Hua for at least for a moment. Sure, she's had to defend herself before, but this... this was something else entirely, and she wasn't sure how to approach it.

-------------------------------------

Move Action: 15 feet - 1w, 2n
Standard Action: Ready Action - kick spider if it moves in her square, because it's the best option she has right now.

Hopefully a ready action doesn't totally muck up things, it was the best I could think of this late. It's the least important part of that turn anyway. Should I go ahead and make a preemptive roll for that attack?

Female Human Commoner 1

Anlessa leans over, inspecting the torches for a moment. "Silly t' be lightnin' one, sure. Still might bring one for an emergency, though. Seems like the right thing t' me..." Still, with Alanar preparing them, she steps back from him, and out of the light - you know, in case Alyona turns out to be right.

She exhales sharply, rolling her shoulders. "Well... hopin' there's a few more scraps of metal around. Somethin' t' throw or swat with if'in somethin' shows up."

Female Human Commoner 1

"Old is old..." Anlessa muses once she recovers from the loud crashing of the door. Lips quirk side to side, hands back in pockets. "Bein' a long time since anyone's been here, for true." She crouches down, poking at the broken metal door curiously, before letting out a long sigh and shaking her head.

"Soudin' as bad as the others," she remarks with a roll of her eyes. Not rushing is good and all, but this is getting silly. Standing back up, she follows behind Deriku into the tomb, eager to keep moving. "Bein' if this place is that bad off, careful may not help one way or the other," she asserts, "So yeah, let's get 'as we were'." What I wouldn't give for a nice solid plank of wood or rod of metal right now, though.

Female Human Commoner 1

"Stay in the light," Anlessa repeats in a pitched up voice, openly mocking Erik. "At least he's gettin' t' doin' somethin' more fast like." Hands on her hips, she looks back towards the wagon, head canting to the side a bit. "If we're gettin' t' gettin', than lets move, t'gether an' all. Y' know, not standin' here all nothin' like. Doin' it right ain't frettin' over what t' do, it's doing something."

Seemingly glad that Deriku and Alyona have seemingly taken the need, Anlessa creeps up towards them at the head of the group, smiling towards Alanar. "Fancy not catchin' a cold, though," she notes, pointing a finger in his direction.

Looking over towards Deriku, she quirks an eyebrow. "Well?" she asks expectantly - admittedly, for all her talk of "doing something", she had scarce idea of where to start at the moment.

Female Human Commoner 1

"Seemin' to me like you finally got somethin'," Anlessa says, waking over to where Deriku stands. "But needin' an' havin' all that are all different. I ain't got any string, but I'll be comin'." Hands slipped back into pockets, she looks back over her shoulder at the others. "Wishin' Miss Hokuto wasin' back now, but nope. If she's hurt, can't just stand around."

Turning back to the mists, she leans forward, eyes narrowed. "Ilesea, if that bein' you, tell us if you're fair an' fine." She rolls her shoulders a bit, staring off into the blackness. "If luck be with us, that ain't a real-like shadow dog... thing waitin' for us," she mutters under her breath.

Female Human Commoner 1

"Wouldn't be hard to missin' or be missed here," Anlessa remarks, hands flat across her brow as she looks around the area. "Don't think it's the best idea t' be splittin' up an' going off after her, though." Hands slip into the shallow pockets of her pants, and she smiles, looking out into the mists. "Now, if we stick t'gether an' all, safin' sound we might be. Not that I'm eager t' go out int' the mists runnin'."

She looks over at Erik, giving a small shrug. "Stayin' and waitin' ain't gonna do any good, t' be sure. Miss Hokuto'll get all unhappy no matter." She looks back out into the mist, and while not eager, she certainly doesn't seem against disobeying Hokuto in favour of finding their missing peer.

Hands placed firmly on her hips, she nods once, looking back at the others. "Waitin' on findin' a plan? How're we doin' this?" A beat pauses. "Agreein' for once, Alyona," Anlessa says, looking over at Taeo. "Frightful thing t' do, y'know." She reaches over and gives the feyling a light shove with one hand, before returning to looking out in the mists.

Female Human Commoner 1

"Wouldn't stop here if it wasn't safe 'n all, but this spooks and creeps," Anlessa says as she crosses her arms, looking over Hokuto. "Wasnin' thinkin' we'll be moving on soon?" The desire to get out and stretch her legs suddenly feels like it can wait, the runaway idly playing with her hair as she watches the other's reactions. She does offer a bit of a grin towards Alanar, giving a small nod in his direction. "Nicein' of you t' do. Don't see that oft'in."

Female Human Commoner 1

Sorry for only getting in a short post today, I probably won't get much tomorrow - a friend and I are completely redoing the floors in a room and it's monopolising more time than expected.

Female Human Commoner 1

With the conversations having taken more serious turns, Anlessa grimaces, letting her thoughts trail off as she looks around the spacious wagon. Still, she manages to offer a grin towards Taeo, her head canting to the side a bit. "કેટલીક ભાષાઓમાં અન્ય કરતાં વધુ મજા છે," she remarks impishly. "Not knowin' that one as well as I should, though. Language classes would be fun. Do we get t' be pickin' our classes, Miss Hokuto?"

Rather than wait for an immediate answer, though, she looks to Shen Hua and shrugs. "Havin' words all your own's the best sometimes, you know? Never thought it rude m'self." Fingers tap impatiently against the seat, lips quirking side to side - Anlessa's ready to get out and stretch, and it's obvious.

Translation:
"Some languages are more fun than others."

Female Human Commoner 1

Unable to hold back a snort and a laugh, Anlessa shakes her heat at Alanar. "Jewelry? Wishin' could afford something, but nothin' doin'. Not sure why I'd have any even beyond that." She offers a small shrug again, looking down at the floor of the cart. "It gets in the way. It's big an' gaudy and weighs too much." She pauses a beat, crossing her arms as she sits back up. "Stole away most a' the time anyway. Too often, even. Not really the best a' ideas t' me."

"Gotten the name right, at least," she continues, waving off the previous subject with one hand as she leans over to Taeo, offering a hand. "Pleased t' be meeting you, all proper like an' all," she says. "Better settle in on gettin' to know everyone while y' can."

Female Human Commoner 1

"She's making 'erself sound so important, an' yet here she is with us." Anlessa grins at Alyona, before looking over at Taeo with curiosity. "A fey? Lianrix used to tell me about those types. Crafty ones, word says. Though I guess tricks are out the question," she notes, glancing over at Hokuto, "bein' for the best of us all, I'm sure." Hands on knees, she leans forward like she's going to listen to the banter between Alyona and Taeo, but quickly becomes disinterested as she flops backwards in her seat with a thump.

"Geez. Outta m' class, I've ended up. I can only imagine how you lot did end up here," she says, a finger tapping against her chin as she thinks. She hadn't really heard much, only having been among the others a shorter time than most, and her attention often fleeting. She stares up at the ceiling again, relishing the thought of stretching her legs rather soon.

Female Human Commoner 1

That was what I used for Lyniza, yeah. Hmm. I'll have to do some digging in a bit.

Female Human Commoner 1

’S okay. Not like I would've guessed it either.” A laugh accentuates the light pat on the back Ilesea receives, a much taller girl leaning forward next to her. Anlessa had been getting more and more restless in the last few days – already excitable and eager, the slow progression of the caravan’s travels was only building that up more and more. She flashes a playful, teasing smile towards Alanar, and shrugs.

Hands gripping the edge of her seat, the young black haired human gives another look over the rest of her travelling companions. Quirking an eyebrow at Alyona, the girl shakes her hair and sighs. “An’ I don’t know ‘wery vell’ what you said,” she responds, giggling. “Wasin’ t’ understandin’ through all that, it’s not easy!” It’s not the first time since her arrival she’s made fun of the Irriseni girl’s accent. Lighthearted jabbing, for the most part, considering her way of talking wasn't always easy to understand either.

Come on, nicen up,” she continues more seriously. Her interest in the card reading Hokuto had done had already faded, swept up now in the conversation that littered the caravan car. Sliding a bit more comfortably into her seat, she smiles again. “Bestin’ not t’ kill each other before we even get there, eh?” Hands folded into her lap, a glance given up towards Hokuto. She wants to ask about the card reading again, but she can’t quite find the words, a look of deliberation crossing her face, brow stitched tight as she thinks. The way she reminds her of Lianrix should make it easier to talk to the older woman, but that doesn't quite seem to be the case, for whatever reason.

Ah, whatever! Anlessa lets out a long sigh. “Any chance of stretchin’ an’ movin’ outside a’ the wagon? Legs’re gettin’ stiff...” she inquires, restless as she stares up at the ceiling. She’s been enjoying the trip, but she’s never liked being cooped up in caravans for too long. At least this one was a rather spacious place to be.

Female Human Commoner 1

Out of curiosity, before I go digging through years of forum posts and internet combing, does anyone know of a good book, thread or place for examples of Varisian and Korvosan slang? I've found a few pieces over the last few games I've been in, but I'm not the most experienced with the setting and never really found a good set of slang to use.

Female Human Commoner 1

Firstly, I think you for picking me, Robert, particularly considering the number of high quality submissions there were. I'm sure I can make that choice worthwhile.

I'm fairly sure my mechanics are about where I want them, with no real tweaking to be done. The summoner archetypes are interesting. I might look more deeply into THM a bit later, but for now I see Anlessa sticking to vanilla summoner.

Considering how tired I am, if anything goes up tonight I probably won't be inserting myself into things until sometime when I'm not dead tired tomorrow. But I look forward to when that moment comes, because I am beyond excited.

I, Anlessa Kowan, hereby submit myself to the College of Shadows under the sign of The Survivor.
