Male Human

Talon Strike had taken a few whacks from the Archer, but it was still functioning appropriately. He moved behind Thunder Walker to reacquire the Archer, then fired off his assault rifle as his chaingun spun up before unleashing a barrage on the Archer.

Move, then Barrage on the ARcher with Assault Rifle and Heavy Machine Gun.

Assault Rifle: 1d20 ⇒ 8
Kinetic Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 6 Reliable 2

Heavy Machine Gun, Inaccurate: 1d20 - 1d6 ⇒ (17) - (2) = 15
Kinetic Damage: 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (4, 2) + 4 = 10

Male Human

Glad I got that right.

I think that setting up a Discord for faster OOC tactics discussion is a good idea. We can better balance who should go when, since we don't have set turns in Initiative.

Male Human

Let me know if I did that right.

Male Human

"This impairment is going to make this difficult. Let's do something about it." Falcon moves forward, past Road Block, and sets about removing the impairment to his targeting system directly - by shooting it. He loads up a Thumper round in his rifle, and opens fire with it and the beam cannon.

Move forward past Road Block to the edge of the abyss, then Barrage with Rifle and Beam Cannon.

Rifle, Impairment: 1d20 - 1d6 ⇒ (16) - (6) = 10
Explosive Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 5 Knockback 1, Reliable 2

Beam Cannon, Impairment: 1d20 - 1d6 ⇒ (1) - (2) = -1

Male Human

Limited for Beam Cannon: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5

Male Human

Thanks, Poise. I looked, but I must have missed the spoiler.

I'm going to put together my actions and take my turn.

Male Human

Got it, thank you. Couple of questions:

1) Can I shot over the black hexes, or are those mountains or something like that?

2) What are the blue outlined hexes and the red outlined hexes?

3) What are the gray things in the red and blue outlined hexes?

4) What are the purple hexes?

5) I assume the smokey hexes are Road Block's smoke grenades. How long do those last?

Male Human

Thanks for the welcome! DM, I sent you a link to grab the mech design I worked up at Retrograde Minis. I'll get joined to the Forge game once you send me the link.

Male Human

Hi everyone! The GM invited me to join after you had someone drop. Happy to be included.

GM, I'll get set up on Forge as soon as I can. How is Forge's mobile support? Can it be used from a phone, or does it have to be a computer?

EDIT: My Forge account has been created. What do you need me to do next?

Male Human

Thank you for running the game. Good gaming, everyone!

Male Human

Cardis gives a start as the Lurmen pops out of hiding, then offers half a grin. Resourceful. I'm impressed. He whispers to the Lurmen, [smaller]"Don't worry - we'll keep an eye out. Just don't kriff up."

Cardis takes care to not to pay too close attention to the conversation, paying attention only to the periphery. He says to Noss, "Comm Dashwind and tell him the Lurmen has made contact. We'll have to find out how he figured out we were here to back him up later." He makes sure to indicate that they should maintain their Collective identities for now.

Male Human

"We'll check on him in a minute. More importantly, a woman just went to the holonet terminal that the Lurmen was at, trying to find someone. She's not an amateur, but not particularly skilled, either. I've seen better - much better. She is not the one we are here to back up.

"She just took a seat at the bar and looked around, giving it as a signal to another person near the door. This may be the slicer. Let's see what the lurmen has planned - remember, we're only to alert them to our presence if necessary."

Male Human

Sorry to hear. Hope everything is okay.

Male Human

Cardis frowned as the Lurmen rolled up into a ball and disappeared from his line of sight. The little thing was good at hiding. Shrugging, figuring Taras would let them know if the thing left, orders a mug of lum and sets about studying the denizens of the cantina, looking for any known threats - or anyone who was paying too much attention to them.

Perception to study the crowd: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (19) + 9 = 28

Male Human

Noting the presence of the Lurmen, Cardis motions Noss and Biggs to an empty booth and flags down a serving droid. "The lurmen is here, but I don't see the human. She may be outside. Let's wait and see what happens."

Cardis will order a Corellian Ale and surreptitiously watch Phedra out of the corner of his eye.

Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (13) + 9 = 22
Stealth: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20

Male Human

The abnormal quiet, puts Cardis on edge, and he whispers to the others, "Keep a close eye out - something may be happening." Assuming those they had come to back up were in the cantina, Cardis leads the group to the entrance. Upon walking in, he scans the crowd, trying to find either of them.

Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (17) + 9 = 26

Male Human

"Good choice. The plan is that we take an unmarked transport to the club - I know exactly where it is, so we can get there easily. Once we've arrived, we locate Rylla and Phedra, then carefully observe them. Should things get violent, we back them up. Otherwise, we see how they handle it."

Male Human

Let's move on with the plot, and keep him NPC'd for now. I've got him just as backed up in another game.

Male Human

I think you mean Knowledge (galactic lore), since local doesn't exist in Saga :)

Knowledge (galactic lore): 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (20) + 12 = 32

"Understood, my lord. We shall go at once." Bowing, Cardis turns to leave the office, catching Biggs's eye so he knows to do the same.

Once they are out of the office, on their way to the transports, Cardis says to Biggs, "You have two choices. Choice one, you stay with us and aid us in our missions going forward until you are either dead or released by Darth Wyyrlock. Choice two, you die now. The decision is yours."

Male Human

Kneeling, Cardis says, "Noss is correct. We do not need rest, and shall depart at once."

Male Human

"We arrived in the Toydaria system and docked with Poppara's space station. Once we arrived, we learned that our Intellignce apparatus had not actually located Poppara - he was not there, but his son, Zonnos, was. Zonnos offered us a mission to locate and kill his brother, Miko, on Endregaard, in the Indexu Spiral, in exchange for the information pertaining to safe passage through the Spiral. The planet itself was under quarantine by the Corporate Sector Authority due to a virus, but Zonnos had a vaccine that would protect us from its effects. We agreed, and were provided a route to the planet Endregaard through the Spiral.

"Once we arrived, we were able to easily infiltrate the blockade and land on the planet. We were quickly able to determine that there were others who had arrived, as we located another ship. We sabotaged it by splicing a thermal detonator into the engine startup circuits, causing the detonator to explode the reactor upon ignition. We later learned that the ship had several Jedi aboard - after the explosion. We explored an abandoned settlement and found that a ground transport had been taken, and headed towards the capital city. We decided to split up - I took the Bloodfin into the capital city, and the others took the ship to investigate the mining towns as we sought Miko.

"Upon arriving in town, I was able to find a place Miko had held court in. It was abandoned, but the message "Fallen Warrior" was written on a wall. This turned out to be a cantina in the city, which I traveled to. I entered the cantina and pretended to be stranded on the planet, same as all the others who were in there. I encountered Biggs, here, who said he knew a representative of Miko's who was in the cantina and could put me in touch with him. Unfortunately, that representative had left. Due to the prevalence of gangs in the area, Biggs discouraged me from seeking him out took me to a safe house while I coordinated with Noss, Taras, and Praxis to meet me at the cantina the next day. That day, we arrived at the cantina and made contact with a Nikto who worked for Miko. He was going to be able to take us to Miko, but Miko was not located in the city - we would have to take a transport to get there. Rather than reveal the ship to the Nikto, we stole a CSA speeder and Biggs killed the swoop gang that was harrassing the driver - after he gave us the cure for Praxis, who had become infected with the plague.

"We then journeyed to the location where Miko was, only to find that another group had already rescued him. Attempting to locate him, we returned to the place he'd held court, only to find it crawling with CSA agents. We then went to see if he was in the CSA administrative building, where we met two civilians who revealed information to us about the CSA patrols, as well as a ship that had blasted off-planet. I was able to get their outbound vector. We checked the wreckage of the Jedi ship to see if the Hutt had died there, but rather than pursue a course through an unknown path, took our route back to Toydaria in the hopes they would emerge there. They did not, however. Poppara was on Nar Shaddaa, not Toydaria, and Miko was returned there. After our arrival, we also learned that Zonnos likely did not have the full route through the Indexu Spiral."

His report finished, Cardis awaited Darth Wyyrlock's response, and left room for the others to chime in. He did hope Biggs stayed silent - surely he had brains enough for that.

Anybody has anything to add, feel free.

Male Human

"Understood." Cardis replies, a feeling of doom in his stomach. Somehow he suspected that a few dead Jedi would fail to make up for their failure in this mission. Someone would have to pay - perhaps Biggs could be offered as a sacrifice. After all, he was the one who'd said he could show them where to go, and that had delayed them. He liked the man, but if it came to his life or Biggs's, he knew which he would choose.

Turning to the others, he says, "We are traveling to Coruscant immediately. There are those we must speak to. Let's go." Cardis walks towards their ship, not looking back.

Male Human

Sighing, Cardis motions Biggs to take a few steps away and answers the comm. "My lord, we have learned that our Intelligence failed to locate Poppara - he is actually on Nar Shaddaa, not Toydaria. We treated with one of his sons, Zonnos, to assassinate the other, Miko, in exchange for the data. Miko was trapped in the cluster. However, we have discovered that Zonnos lied to us about having the data, and another group retrieved Miko in the meantime. We were preparing an alternate plan to acquire the information."

Persuasion: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (12) + 11 = 23
Force Point: 2d6 ⇒ (1, 2) = 3
25 Persuastion total.

When in doubt, blame someone else.

Male Human

Yes, but I'm trying to figure out how to spin my response so I'm not saying we failed, but that we either haven't succeeded yet or that whoever gave us the information about Poppara got it wrong so they get blamed.

Cardis is in butt-covering mode, cause he's pretty sure he's gonna die if he doesn't do this right.

Male Human

So...Zonnos may have lied to us when he offered us the routes through the Tion Cluster?

Male Human

Wait, hold on, back up. Did that human say that only Poppara had all the access to the Tion Cluster? Is that what he said?

Male Human

Cardis smiles at the human and shakes his head, both in amusement at the human's words and in response to Taras's question. "You'd be surprised by what we can do when we have access to a galaxy's worth of resources. Now, would you kindly provide us with their locations? As well as whether there is a cantina here we could relax in before leaving?"

GM, is there a way I could either A) hack the space station's security system to try and download a recording of Zonnos hiring us to kill Mika, or B) purchase a forgery of such? I have 7,450 credits remaining from Connections.

Male Human

The other ship that escaped the blockade. Sithspawned Hutts.

"Ah, that would explain it. Incidentally, I suspect the mercenaries Poppara hired to rescue Mika were actually a group of Jedi. We made sure they wouldn't leave the planet. There was another ship that left the planet shortly before we did we suspected carried Mika. They took a different hyperspace route out of the cluster. We thought to cut them off if they returned here. After all, a high-speed hyperspace chase through an unknown hyperspace route is rather suicidal."

Pausing and cocking his head, Cardis continues, "You know, if Zonnos had given us more than that one route through the cluster, we might have been able to catch them and prevent Mika's return. Or if we'd been told Poppara's actual location, we could have intercepted them there and destroyed them. So, I suppose Zonnos didn't really want his brother dead. Of course, if he is genuine in that desire and he tells us both Mika's and Poppara's current locations..."

Persuasion: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (8) + 11 = 19

Male Human

"Wise Zonnos didn't double-book this, did he? If so, I'm going to be rather annoyed."

Male Human

"And how would he know the mission is a failure?" Cardis asks quietly.

Male Human

Cardis activates the communications and says, "Acknowledged. On course to docking bay Y 23."

He then flies into the station.

Male Human

Sighing, Cardis looks to the Sith. "I see no reason to avoid landing, apart from sitting on the ship for however long. Your thoughts?"

Male Human

"I have the emissions and signature of the ship that blasted off Endregaard. Now we scan for it, and see if we can find it." Cardis begins a sensor sweep, looking for any ship traffic that matches the signature of the ship.

Perception: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (4) + 12 = 16

Male Human

Stealth, Force Point: 1d20 + 6 + 2d6 ⇒ (7) + 6 + (4, 3) = 20 17 total

With a small smirk, Cardis says, "I don't know that you'd like some of the complications that can arise from that."

Again, assists welcome. Cloaking device still provides -10 to Perception Checks to see us.

Male Human

Cardis activates the cloaking device (-10 Perception Checks to find us).

Stealth, Force Point: 1d20 + 6 + 2d6 ⇒ (6) + 6 + (6, 6) = 24 18 total.

Aid Another's welcome.

Male Human

"Agreed. Let's get out of here."

Male Human

Cardis nods. "Alright, then, but we must be quick about it. We cannot lose too much time."

Cardis lands the ship, then lowers the ramp so they can exit and begin searching.

Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (19) + 9 = 28

Male Human

Cardis considers a moment before saying, "If we will not find the Hutt, I am inclined to ignore it. However, there may be some benefit to seeing if we can salvage the navicomputer. That ship with Jedi got to this planet via hyperspace route, possibly mapped by Poppara's people. With that and the route we have, we may get enough base data to begin conducting our own mapping. Still, better we didn't have to do any of it. Noss, what do you think?"

Hey guys, my father-in-law is in the hospital, and my wife and I have our second wedding anniversary next week. Posting might be short and scarce until Thursday.

Male Human

Hey, Sith. You could Search Your Feelings about whether it's a good idea to check for the Hutt's body or not.

It's awesome how many games I play in with you. Just saying.

Of course, you're posting that ststement 47 times :).

Ah, okay. Gotcha. I thought that was a Medic talent. Now I see I missed Steady Under Pressure when I looked over the stat block. We're good.

I would get GM permission for that strategy before implementing it. I view just dropping an item to be different than arming and dropping an explosive device. As for the droid, you could just use your starting funds to 'purchase' the droid, so you already have it scavenged when we start and don't have to build it out of parts we find in-game.

Looks good overall. Don't forget that when you multi class, you only get to choose one of your new class's starting feats, you don't get all of them. You also get to add 1/2 your heroic level to all damage rolls.

I'd keep Quick Draw, since you have talents that pair nicely with it, but if you wanted to swap Lightning Draw for something, that would probably be okay. Our only skill deficiencies appear to be two knowledge skills, physical sciences and social sciences, but it might not hurt to double up on Knowledge (tech), since the only other one who has it is Phedra. Knowledge tactics might be good too, since I'm the only one that has that.

I have noticed that I'm the only one trained in Gather Information. That's another one that might be good for you to train.

Male Human

"We aren't, since we know nothing about the route they took. If the Hutt's body is down there, I don't want to leave evidence of his death behind, but time is of the essence."

Looking at Noss, he says, "What do you think?"

Don't suppose anyone has farseeing and could use it to find the Hutt?

It's pretty nice, but I'll admit to being concerned that you went too heavy on the out of combat stuff. I would suggest backing the Wisdom down a bit to get your Dex to 14, and swap a Skill Focus for WP (pistols). That way you're at least proficient in pistols, and have a decent chance of hitting. I know Lurmen are pacifist, but you're already willingly working with Sith, so you're not exactly normal for a Lurmen, anyway.

I think you also need a Soldier talent, unless I missed it.

We haven't done a ton of vehicle-focused combat so far, apart from some minor travel and such. We might do some actual space combat soon, but it doesn't seem to be a major theme.

Plus our ship has a crew of 1. Everything is operated by the pilot, so space combat will end up being kind of a one-PC show.

For a tech-focused PC, you'd probably end up sacrificing the Soldier parts. The vast majority of the slicing and mechanics talents are part of the Scoundrel class. Doesn't mean you have to sacrifice heavy weapons, since that's mostly covered by feats, but you'd definitely go armorless.

Havocprince, do you want feedback on the character? I haven't looked yet, just curious.

With Armored Defense, it doesn't become a liability and, depending on the armor, gives you a small boost to your Fortitude Defense. Plus, you can modify it with nifty things (the rules are in Scum and Villainy), like environmentally sealing it or applying cortosis weave (Knights of the Old Republic Sourcebook). But that's just to keep it from being a liability. To make it an advantage, you would want at least the Improved Armored Defense talent so you can add half the armor's defense bonus to your Reflex Defense in addition to your heroic level.

Most characters in Star Wars are unarmored, but some do wear it (Boba Fett, for instance).

Here's an altered build with Soldier as the first level instead of Scoundrel.

Soldier 1
Skills: Initiative, Knowledge (tactics), Mechanics, Perception, Pilot, Treat Injury, Use Computer
Class Feats: AP (light, medium), WP (pistols, rifles, simple)
Feats: Weapon Proficiency (heavy weapons), Weapon Focus (heavy weapons)
Talent: Devastating Attack (heavy weapons)

Soldier 2
Bonus feat: Burst Fire

Soldier 2/Scoundrel 1
Class Feat: Point Blank Shot
Feat: Precise Shot
Talent: Art of Concealment

Soldier 2/Scoundrel 2
Bonus feat: Quick Draw

Soldier 3/Scoundrel 2
Talent: Armored Defense

Soldier 4/Scoundrel 2
Feat: Autofire Assault
Bonus feat: Sniper

Soldier 4/Scoundrel 3
Talent: Hidden Weapons

Soldier 4/Scoundrel 4
Bonus feat: Lightning Draw

This build looks to enter the Elite Trooper prestige class at 9 by picking up Martial Arts I as the feat at that level, so you can get the Controlled Burst talent from Elite Trooper. However, it sacrifices all of the social skills from the previous build without having to spend a feat to train them, as well as Acrobatics and Stealth. It also requires a slight stat rework, since Burst Fire requires Strength 13 to take. It does get Knowledge (tactics) and Treat Injury in exchange, and you don't have to spend a feat to train Perception, but only you can decide if the trade is worth it.

I also noticed a mistake I made in my last build. The mistake is corrected in the spoiler below:

Scoundrel First build:

Scoundrel 1
Skills: Acrobatics, Deception, Initiative, Mechanics, Persuasion, Pilot, Stealth, Use Computer.
Class Feats: WP (pistols, simple), Point Blank Shot
Feats: Skill Training (Perception), Precise Shot (Human Bonus)
Talent: Art of Concealment

Scoundrel 2
Bonus feat: Quick Draw

Scoundrel 2/Soldier 1
Class Feat: AP (light)
Feat: WP (heavy weapons)
Talent: Devastating Attack (heavy weapons)

Scoundrel 2/Soldier 2
Bonus feat: Weapon Focus (heavy weapons)

Scoundrel 3/Soldier 2
Talent: Hidden Weapons

Scoundrel 4/Soldier 2
Feat: Autofire Assault
Bonus feat: Lightning Draw

Scoundrel 4/Soldier 3
Talent: Armored Defense

Scoundrel 4/Soldier 4
Bonus feat: Sniper

EDIT: I know I'm hitting you with a lot of information here, so let me know if I need to clarify anything.

Something interesting, and one of the things I love about Saga Edition, is that while the end result of both builds is nearly identical, both characters have an incredibly different feel to them, with the first being more of a heavy-weapons toting smuggler, and the second being more of a heavy-weapons toting commando.

The biggest reason I asked about the armor is because when you're wearing armor, you add the armor's bonus to your reflex defense instead of your heroic level, which, once you hit level 8, means you're actually lowering your Reflex defense versus normal. In order to choose between the two, you need the Soldier's Armored Defense talent.

Cardis is also a Jack of All Trades build, so there may be a bit of overlap there. He's designed to become a force multiplier for the Sith without being a combat liability (a very real possibility with straight Noble).

I would suggest the following general build.

Scoundrel 1
Skills: Acrobatics, Deception, Initiative, Mechanics, Persuasion, Pilot, Stealth, Use Computer.
Class Feats: WP (pistols, simple), Point Blank Shot
Feats: Skill Training (Perception), Precise Shot (Human Bonus)
Talent: Art of Concealment

Scoundrel 2
Bonus feat: Quick Draw

Scoundrel 2/Soldier 1
Class Feat: WP (heavy weapons)
Feat: Weapon Focus (heavy weapons)
Talent: Devastating Attack (heavy weapons)

Scoundrel 2/Soldier 2
Bonus feat: AP (light)

Scoundrel 3/Soldier 2
Talent: Hidden Weapons

Scoundrel 4/Soldier 2
Feat: Autofire Assault
Bonus feat: Lightning Draw

Scoundrel 4/Soldier 3
Talent: Armored Defense

Scoundrel 4/Soldier 4
Bonus feat: Sniper

The Scoundrel side of your build is entirely unaffected, and on the Soldier side, when you use the heavy weapons, you treat the target's Damage Threshold as 5 lower. That means you might be able to knock them down the Condition Track and unconscious, and then we just have the Sith cut their heads off with lightsabers. You can also now more effectively use your armored flight suit, and avoid sacrificing any of your Reflex Defense.

If Havocprince does end up making his Sith Marauder-character, you may want to look at swapping out Autofire Assault and Weapon Focus (heavy weapons) in favor of Medium Armor Proficiency and Martial Arts I. Doing so would allow you to go into the Elite Trooper prestige class at level 9, when you can take the Controlled Burst talent which lowers your autofire penalties.

If you'd like to swap anything out, let me know and I'll see about providing alternative options.

Okay, so, it looks like you're shooting for Heavy Weapons Specialist with some commando-esque qualities. How important is the armor to you? In order to make effective use of armor, it really does require an investment of talents, otherwise it's more of a hindrance than a help.

So, I'm going to start this off by saying that, while this reads as kind of harsh, it isn't meant to be, so please don't take it that way.

Your feat level order is a bit off due to prerequisites. Lightning Draw has Quick Draw as a prerequisite, so you may want to switch those. Deadeye also requires BAB+4, which you would not have at Level 1, which means it can't be your Human Bonus feat.

Burst Fire is also a feat, not a talent. Since you have that, you may also want to rethink Deadeye because the bonus damage doesn't stack, and I'm guessing you plan on using the heavy repeater most often. I also don't see Weapon Focus as a feat, which makes the Autofire Assault feat kind of superfluous. The extra damage from that also doesn't stack with Burst Fire.

You only get to choose one of the class's starting feats when you multi class, you do not get all of them. It looks like Scoundrel is your first class based on the skills chosen, so you would only get one of Armor Proficiency (light), Armor Proficiency (medium), and Weapon Proficiency (rifles).

If you would like, I can help you build out the character to do what you want it to do.
