There is simply no time. I must depart the forum. Y'all have fun.

Nah nah, ship voyage was super quick relatively speaking. Seriously, stellar job, Kraken.

As to RL: guys, when I am too busy to post, I am too busy to post. if that's a problem for this group, then I'll drop out.

Nefertiti Abdul wrote:

I completely agree that Reknar's proposal makes sense in character. I also agree that numerous attempts have been made to involve Aikane in the action that Aikane has declined.

I wanted to open up this discussion because I don't want the player blindsided. I worry that Aikane's player might not realize how his character is being perceived by the rest of us.

In Aikane's defense... Early on, Aikane did one action in particular that helped out the entire team. He arranged a backup rescue mission that he never told any of us about. (One could argue that telling us about that might have been helpful and/or downright timely after we saw our own boat sink... but that's another story.)

However, recently he has been uninvolved. We've received no communications from him in or out of character. He's shown up for the occasional combat, but he hasn't offered his skills to help the group in any other way. No knowledge skills, no participation in group decisions, and he even declined to help with food gathering.

OOC... Nefertiti is loyal to a fault to those she considers friends. In the backstory of Aikane / Zem / Nef, Aikane's skills kept the three of them alive in the wilderness. For this reason, up to now, she's been incredibly loyal to Aikane. However the character and personality of Aikane in gameplay has been incredibly different from what was originally proposed. So different, that even Nef's fervent loyalty is starting to slip.

So let me just say, you have my email. In my personal opinion this would have been a great time to PM or email me.

TL;DR Aikane is like a lynx.

Reality check: sometimes it seems this game in particular chugs along at 20 posts per day. I can't keep up with that in real life. Before I read the rest of the posts in discussion further down, let me just jump in here. I have a busy life. Kraken bots as needed. I get that.

Just on the Paizo boards, I am playing in one fast-paced game (this one), one medium-paced game, GMing one medium-paced game, and playing in one slow-paced game. If I am posting too slow to keep up, and Kraken is tired of botting my actions, then perhaps I do not belong here.

Let's talk mechanics first, this is Pathfinder after all. Originally Aikane was the only rogue in the party. It seemed like he had a real purpose then. He was (and hopefully still is) the skill specialist/frontiersman/scout for the group. Let's be frank, Aikane does not have ranged capability. He is not high optimized or brutal in combat. Christ, Aikane had to jump overboard in order to attack the sea monster last time. If Reknar hadn't slain it, he would be chum right now. (honestly, I meant that thanks Reknar).

So, on to the, on to the, on to the Roleplaying.
Aikane IS NOT Tulita. Nor is he QADIRAN/FOREIGN. He's a MENEHUNE. He's half your size, and he doesn't agree with everything the crew has done, but as far as he is concerned, they are biggers, and they always do bigger things. That's what lets a little roofrunner go by unnoticed most of the time. Aikane Thought incoming (rp): Besides, they would all be get themselves killed without me here. He's a menehune who couldn't reintegrate into his village after his rumspringah. He has a death wish, but more importantly, wants to upset the plans of evil.
=for example 1: desire to upset the reigning foreign order in port shaw.
=for example 2: wants to stand up to the evil force behind this island.

He's good. I don't know if he's nice however. Given his reaction to the ship sinking, it should be clear that he doesn't cry over spilt milk.

Let's talk story(line) now.
Go back to Shaw. We could have all tried to sneak into the bathouse together, but we didn't. When she leveled with him, Nef tried to ask Aikane to help out a man he hates with a passion, Bonedeucebag. The crew decided to buy an old, allegedly cursed, junker, and work it themselves.
1)What lazy criminal wants to be a sailor. 2)Who wants to own the ship they are sailing into dangerous waters.
Aikane wanted to buy an adamant harpoon and kill the mad whale, but the group decided to go with Whale (capital "W") and that is A-OK.
And then we get on a ship for a long time
Aside: Nothing against kraken, or any other DM I have played with. I just don't enjoy ship bits as a player. It always seems so much less interesting than wilderness navigation. There is more of an illusion of safety on boats.
Aikane slips down into the slave ship alone, and pockets some pearls. Apparently y'all aren't fans of Aikane pocketing pearls and the like. I thought we had resolved that, but let me emphasize, if you asked Aikane if he had any money or valuables on him, he would tell you exactly what he was carrying.

And then we go to the island. Aikane is essentially reacting to what goes on around him at this point. He actually feels at home on the island. This is what he came for, his deathwish. He interjects where he thinks he needs to, otherwise withdrawing into his jungle-self. Aikane is like a lynx. If you treat him like a star on a telenovella, then you might not get the answer you want.

Welp, gotta say I'm grinning really wide right now. Bought boat. Sailed into rough waters. Didn't buy insurance.

Aikane stays seated on the beach. "I'll be fine here for a time, don't worry about fitting me onto the longboat."

He's still seated in the sand, watching the treeline when he hears the crack. He looks over his shoulder toward the sound, and seeing the cause, merely shakes his head.

Aikane scouts the area around the campsite. He prepares a small hammock/hide up in one of the trees near camp. About twenty feet off the ground he settles in to take a nap. "Wake me for my watch when it's time."survival: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22

So, I totally didn't read the combat map, and I assumed this swarm was like a real-life swarm of locusts, a tide of insects sweeping through the jungle.

Frankly, I'm a bit disappointed to see it's only a large sized monster. I also feel really dumb now.

After an exhaustive search of the smelly hold and brig, Aikane slides carefully up the stairs shaking his head. He is glad he is still disguised as an unremarkable sailor. He is more appreciative of his freedom.

If the crew or captain were to recognize him in Shaw, that would be ... unfortunate. Feel free to rule me out on this one Kraken, but I've been operating under the idea that Aikane plays down the stuff that differentiates him from a normal gnome.

Such is the life of a menehune away from home.

Aikane steps out on deck through the hole Reknar used. He shakes his head a bit, as if to signal nothing worthwhile. Character Aikane assumes all the loot except what he "Found on the one sailor's bunk" was kept in the Captain's Quarters above deck. My narrative is that he only found the pearls down there. The stongbox and bars of gold would have been in the captain's cabin, right? *But I'm no real life pirate*
