Aerys looks at the sick patients and breaks down crying out loud. "They are both going to die, aren't they? We are just going to sit here on the beach until we all slowly die of disease or starvation or worse. It's utterly hopeless..." Perception DC 15 or Sense Motive DC 12: You can see there is more than the condition of the sick castaways worrying her. Small tremors mar her movements and she seems to be sweating profusely and hyper alert.
Varya: Aerys looks uncomfortable for a moment than answers with a shrug. "They may not be here at all. They grow in tropical areas, but what are the chances they are on a deserted island. Knowing my luck, none.
It is said they grow in tall stands and have 6 inch thorns protecting them. The berries grow in the middle of the stands, so you have deal with the thorns to retrieve them. I hope we find some fast, or I'll start to go downhill."
Aerys moves over, closer to Varya as the healers go to work. She whispers in teh paladin's ear: Varya:
"Did you have any luck finding the berries? I am starting to shake, don'tlknow how long I can stay upright. Where are they?" asks the half-elf in a low sorrowful voice. She responsds to Okhosa with a wry smile. "I wish magic could get us out of here, but I am afraid that little charms and tricks are no good for that."
Inside the tent, Aerys Mavato, the half-elven woman, sits reading out loud from a large book to Jask Derindi and Gelik the gnome. Both those fellow are stretched out in the bed, and neither looks quite well. "They have both taken ill." explains Aerys with shake of the head. "I am glad you are all back, I don't know what else could befall us. I sent Sasha out to look for food but she hasnt been seen or heard from in some time. Morgrym, the dwarf, also left and has not been seen." She notices the limps, wounds and ashen faces for the first time. "Looks like you ran into trouble as well. Damn this place! It will be the death of all of us, and sooner than later it appears." Tears run down her face and she shakes with worry and concern for the small group of castaways.
As Celine tries to sooth Aerys Mavato, who is beside herself, the kind words, soft voice are misunderstood by the angry half-elven woman. "Are you patronizing me? I am not someone you can talk down to from your high and mighty throne. Priestess, bah? Nothing but a liar and a trickster. You all put me here, and now you expect me to follow you until you can kill me too! Never! I am leaving this place now. I'll have better luck on my own anyway." She stomps off to the gear pile, grabbing the rest of her things, including a composite longbow and a large heavy waterproof satchel, and sets out into the jungle on her own, not once looking behind her. And that is how you fail a Diplomacy check, making someone unfriendly hostile. Sorry, it's a bit in the cards anyway.
Aerys looks threateningly at the little gnome. "It is a good thing you don't eat very much Master Gnome, or I would have to consider exiling you from the camp. Shape up, and help out or stop using our resources. We are gonig to struggle enough without lazy hangers-on!" After her angry tirade, which most of you have seen is her normal speech pattern, she takes a deep breath and with a sweet smile and pleasant voice says "I will stay behind and watch the camp, and make sure the lay-abouts get their share of the work done."
Do I recall correctly that healing magic works double on Non-Lethal damage? Varya:
The half-elven woman shows some relief when you don't immediately criticize her exposed weakness. She continues:"I had come to Sargava in hopes of finding a cure for my addiction. It is said that certain berries, found only in the tropics of Garund, may act as a curative for withdrawal symptoms. The are viper nettle berries; will you help search this island and see if, by chance, any of the berries grow here?"
Her eyes are beseeching and her voice quavers as she hopes that you will help. At about this time, Mikahil crashes into the undergrowth ahead of you, making sure nothing is amiss in the jungle. "Remember," says Aerys with conviction, "It's a secret, between you and me." She puts on a resolute smile and greets Mikail, "We are fine, just girl talk. What is the latest?" The group gains 100xp for making Aerys friendly (at least to Varya). This moves you to 258/2000 or about 13% to level 2. Good work!
Varya: The half-elven woman sighs deeply. "I am a bit embarrassed about this, but also quite worried. I don't know what to do. You see...I have been so stressed for so long, I started taking to drink, you know an occasional glass of wine, or what not. But before long I have developed a habit. I am addicted to liquor, and without it, I am afraid I will start to get sick quickly. I imagine no one on the island has a drink?"
She looks at you testing your reaction to her news, before continuing.
Varya: As Varya speaks softly and skillfully to the angry half-elf woman, she begins to stop crying. In fact, Varya is pleased to see, she even begins to listen.
"You really think the captain was the problem? He and that scholarly Varisian hussy? I do see that blaming the rest of you for our plight is a bit foolish. Do you think they'll take me back after I acted so awfully? I am afraid, and don't want to be alone, but I am not good with people either. Will you help smooth it over out there?" As you start to head back to the beach with the others, she stops you, putting a hand on your arm. "Can I tell you something? A secret? I trust you for some reason."
The red-head, Sasha, does not come back from playing the surf. As Celine offers water to Aerys Mavato the half-elf, the woman snarls at her. "Poisoned, more like as not! You all already drugged me once, and threw me out on this beach, now you are trying to do me in again. First that big galoot manhandles me, then this princess tries to poison me. I see through your schemes and shenanigans."
Felix bends down to pick up the half-elven woman, and as he does, she wakens with a start and a scream. "What is...Put me down, you big brute! Take your paws off me this instant!" and she wriggles and kicks so much that Felix can't help but drop her back to the sand with thud. "Think you can take adavantage of me while I am sleeping? What is this world coming to?" she cries furiously, before the strangeness of her surroundings starts to intrude on her indignation. "This isn't the ship? Where are we? What happened to us? Why are you all staring at me!"
"Wait!" calls a voice from behind you. It is Aerys Mavato, the half-elf woman. She is standing and pointing at Jask and Mikail. "You aren't really going to let that...that...criminal...go are you? How do you know he's not a murderer or a raper? Why would you just free him?" she cries clearly frightened of the prospect.
"How I'm feeling is NONE of your business!" shouts the half-elven woman, snatching her hat from Varya's friendly grasp. "If you think for a moment I believe your story about mysteriously being "drugged" and dragged onto the beach, you are crazier than you look! I know you are all... she points her finger at all of the bystanders in turn, ...in on this. I don't trust a single one of you! At least that one has the decency to be in chains already. If the crew and captain aren't here, I have half a mind to go and find them for myself." She storms off across the beach, grabbing her gear from the pile of items on the deck. She takes a longbow and quiver, a small satchel from which a dog-eared book protrudes, and some quills and ink. She then heads for the tree-line, setting her bag upon the rocks at the edge of the trees, and staring furiously towards the rest of you.
Varya's effort to wake up the last of the castaways meets with a surprising response. "Get away from me! Stop touching me!" cries the half-elven woman. She is trim and athletic, wearing dark, tight-fitting leathers. Her dark hair is cut short and she has a tricorn hat lying nearby. She stumbles backward, trying to get out of reach of Varya, still a bit in shock, and obviously a little erratic on awakening. "Where are we? I remember the galley, and then...Oh, it's all a blur. Have you taken me prisoner? Why is that man in chains? Where is the captain?" AFter we get Aerys settled, we will start the mission to the wreck of the Jenivere, since it was mentioned to rouse her first. |
